This sweet crochet set features a soft beige little mouse wearing blue daisy overalls, a yellow-and-white striped shirt, white mittens, socks, and blue sandals. The mouse has oversized pink inner ears, glossy black eyes, a pink nose, a tiny flower by one ear, and a tiny baby chick sitting on top of the head. The full picnic scene also includes a blue shoulder bag, a straw sunhat with a blue bow, a strawberry, a berry basket, and a small watering can.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern is written in US crochet terms and is designed as a detailed amigurumi-style project. The finished mouse is shaped with a large rounded head, small seated body, slim arms, short legs, and oversized round ears. The clothing is crocheted directly onto the body where possible, then decorated with embroidery and small appliqués.
The project uses tight single crochet stitches to create a smooth stuffed toy surface. Work firmly, use a hook smaller than the yarn label suggests, and stuff gradually. The mouse in the image has a neat, compact texture, so the stitches should sit close together with no stuffing showing through.
Finished Size
- Main mouse: about 8.5 inches tall from feet to top of head, not including the chick.
- Baby chick: about 1.25 inches tall.
- Sunhat: about 3.75 inches wide.
- Shoulder bag: about 2.5 inches wide.
- Watering can: about 2 inches wide.
- Berry basket: about 1.75 inches wide.
Skill Level
Advanced beginner to intermediate. The stitches are simple, but the pattern includes many small parts, color changes, shaping rounds, surface embroidery, and careful assembly. Beginners can make this project successfully by marking the first stitch of every round and checking stitch counts often.

Gauge and Texture Notes
For this project, exact gauge is less important than firm fabric. In the reference style, the stitches are compact and even, with a visible spiral texture. Aim for about 7 single crochet stitches per inch using sport weight cotton and a 2.25 mm hook.
If your stitches are loose, go down to a 2.00 mm hook for the mouse body. If your fabric becomes stiff and hard to shape, go up to a 2.50 mm hook. The ears, flowers, chick, and small accessories should remain slightly firm so they keep their shape.

Important Construction Notes
- Work most amigurumi pieces in continuous rounds unless a joined round is stated.
- Use a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round.
- Stuff the head firmly, the body medium-firmly, and the limbs lightly.
- The head is intentionally large compared with the body to match the image.
- The ears are wide and flat with pink centers, attached slightly behind the eye line.
- The blue overalls sit high on the chest and become wide shorts around both legs.
- The baby chick sits centered on top of the head, slightly toward the left side when viewed from the front.
Main Mouse Head
Use beige yarn and the 2.25 mm hook. The mouse head should be round, slightly taller than wide, with a soft cheek area created later by the muzzle. Stuff gradually and firmly as you work.

FO with a long sewing tail. Pin the muzzle under the eyes, with the top edge sitting about 1 round below the eye line. Sew around the outer edge using small stitches. Add a small amount of stuffing behind the center before closing the final inch.
Pink Nose and Mouth
- With pink yarn, make 6 sc in MR, sl st to close, then FO with a long tail.
- Sew the nose at the top center of the white muzzle, slightly raised.
- Use black embroidery thread to stitch one vertical line down from the nose over 3 rounds.
- Add a tiny short mouth line at the bottom of that vertical line.
- For a gentle mouse expression, keep the mouth small and centered.
Large Outer Ears
Make 2 using beige yarn. The ears are large, flat, and round with a slight oval shape. They are attached on both sides of the head, almost level with the eyes, and angle outward like soft saucers.

- R19: sc 6, inc, repeat 6 times. 48 sts.
- R20 to R22: sc in each st around. 48 sts.
Stuff the body medium-firmly. The upper chest should stay narrower than the blue shorts area. The bottom should be wide enough to support the two short overall legs.
Dividing the Overall Shorts
The blue overalls form two separate short legs. Keep the split centered at the front and back. Flatten the body slightly to identify the middle line before beginning.
- R23: sc 24 for the first leg opening, skip 24 sts for the second leg. Join to the first sc of this leg section with a sl st. You now work only on the first leg with 24 sts.
- R24 to R28: sc in each st around the first leg. 24 sts for 5 rounds.
- R29: sc 2, dec, repeat 6 times. 18 sts.
- R30: sc in each st around. 18 sts.
- FO and weave in end.
Join sky blue yarn to the skipped 24 stitches for the second short leg.
- R23B: sc in each of the 24 skipped sts. 24 sts.
- R24B to R28B: sc in each st around. 24 sts for 5 rounds.
- R29B: sc 2, dec, repeat 6 times. 18 sts.
- R30B: sc in each st around. 18 sts.
- FO and weave in end.
Use a yarn needle to close any small gap between the overall legs with sky blue yarn. The shorts should look like one bib overall garment with two rounded legs.
Overall Bib Front
The bib sits on the front of the body over the striped shirt. It reaches from the waist to the lower chest and has two straps that go upward to the shoulders.
- With sky blue yarn, attach to the front loops left from R13 at the center front.
- Row 1: sc 14 across the front loops only. Ch 1, turn. 14 sts.
- Row 2: sc 14. Ch 1, turn. 14 sts.
- Row 3: dec, sc 10, dec. Ch 1, turn. 12 sts.

- Row 5: dec, sc 8, dec. Ch 1, turn. 10 sts.
- Row 6: sc 10. Ch 1, turn. 10 sts.
- Row 7: sc 10. FO and weave in end.
Add a neat border around the bib. Attach blue yarn at one lower corner, sc evenly up the side, across the top, down the second side, and across the bottom. Sl st to close and FO.
Overall Straps
Make 2 straps using sky blue yarn. The straps are narrow and cross slightly over the upper chest, attaching near the top of the bib with small tan buttons.
- Ch 18.
- Starting in the second ch from hook, sc 17.
- FO with a long tail.
Sew one end of each strap to the back upper edge of the overalls. Bring each strap over the shoulder to the front bib. Sew a small tan button on top of the strap end at each front corner. The buttons should sit just under the striped shirt neckline.

Embroidered Daisies on the Overalls
The overalls in the image have three small white daisies across the chest and tiny green stems. These flowers are important because they visually connect the mouse to the garden accessories.
- Use green embroidery thread to stitch three short stems on the bib, each about 2 rounds tall.
- For each daisy, make five small straight stitches in white around a center point.
- Use yellow yarn or thread to make one French knot in the center of each flower.
- Place the flowers across the lower center of the bib, not too high.
- Add two tiny green leaf stitches beside the stems.
Arms
Make 2. The arms are beige with white mitten-like hands and short sleeves implied by the striped shirt. They hang down at the sides, with the mitten ends reaching the top of the overalls.
- R1: With white yarn, 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
- R2: inc in each st around. 12 sts.
- R3: sc 1, inc, repeat 6 times. 18 sts.

Stuff the hands lightly, but leave the upper arm almost unstuffed so the arms hang softly. Sew the arms to the sides of the body at R8 to R10 of the torso, angled slightly downward.
Legs
Make 2. The legs show beige skin between the blue overall shorts and white socks. Each foot wears a blue sandal with a white toe area.
- R1: With beige yarn, 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
- R2: inc in each st around. 12 sts.
- R3: sc 1, inc, repeat 6 times. 18 sts.

- R13: sc 1, dec, repeat 6 times. 12 sts.
- R14: sc in each st around. 12 sts.
- FO with a long tail.
Stuff the legs lightly. Sew them inside the lower openings of the overall shorts so the beige leg section peeks out below the blue hem. Keep both feet pointing forward and slightly outward.
Feet and Sandal Shape
Make 2 foot pads in white. These pads create the rounded toe shape visible inside the blue sandals.
- R1: With white yarn, ch 7. Starting in second ch from hook, sc 5, 3 sc in last ch. Work on the other side, sc 4, inc in final ch. 14 sts.

Sew one sandal sole under each white foot pad. The blue edge should be visible around the white toes.
Blue Sandal Straps
- For each sandal, ch 9 with blue yarn, then FO.
- Sew the chain across the top of the white foot, from one side of the blue sole to the other.
- Make a second short strap with ch 5 and sew it vertically from the center of the toe strap toward the ankle.
- Add one tiny yellow or white flower stitch on the outer side of each sandal if desired.
Baby Chick Body
The baby chick is tiny and round, perched on top of the mouse’s head. It has a yellow body, little wings, orange beak, orange feet, and small black eyes. The body is worked as one rounded piece.

Small Watering Can
The watering can is a beige garden accessory with a round body, curved handle, short spout, and pale shower head. It should look small and soft, not oversized.
Watering Can Body
- R1: With tan yarn, 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
- R2: inc in each st around. 12 sts.
- R3: sc 1, inc, repeat 6 times. 18 sts.

Watering Can Spout
- With tan yarn, 5 sc in MR. 5 sts.
- R2 to R6: sc in each st around. 5 sts.
- FO with long tail.
Attach the spout to one side of the can, angled slightly upward. For the pale shower head, make 6 sc in MR with cream yarn, then sew it to the end of the spout. Flatten it slightly before sewing.
Watering Can Handle
- With tan yarn, ch 18.
- Starting in second ch from hook, sl st 17.
- FO with long tails.
- Sew one end near the top back of the can and the other end near the lower back.
- Curve the handle outward in a rounded arch.
Head and Body Assembly
Pin the head onto the body before sewing. The head should be centered, with the white muzzle facing forward and the overalls centered below it. Because the head is large, use extra pins and check the angle from every side.
- Place the body neck opening under the head opening.
- Use the long beige tail from the head to sew around the neck twice.
- After the first sewing round, add more stuffing into the neck area if the head wobbles.
- Complete a second sewing round for strength.
- Hide the yarn tail inside the body.
The finished posture should look relaxed and seated, with the head slightly forward, as if the little mouse is looking up sweetly. Do not tilt the head too far back, because the chick must sit safely on top.
Attaching the Ears
The large ears are a major feature. They should be placed on the sides of the head, with the inner pink circles facing forward. The top of each ear should sit around R13 to R15 of the head, and the lower edge around R22 to R23.
- Pin the left ear first, about 3 rounds behind the eye line.
- Pin the right ear to match, checking from the front and top.
- Angle each ear outward and slightly downward.
- Sew through the beige outer edge only, leaving the pink inner ear clean.
- For a cupped shape, stitch the bottom 6 stitches of each ear slightly closer together.
Attaching the Baby Chick
Place the chick on top of the mouse’s head. In the image, the chick sits slightly toward one side but still near the center. The feet point forward, and the chick looks outward.
- Pin the chick to the head between the top center rounds.
- Use yellow yarn to sew around the bottom of the chick body.
- Catch several stitches of the mouse head fabric with each sewing pass.
- Secure the chick firmly so it does not lean or rotate.
- Hide the yarn tail inside the head.
Facial Highlights and Small Head Details
- Add two tiny black eyebrow stitches above the eyes, each about 2 stitches long.
- Place the eyebrows slightly angled inward for a gentle curious expression.
- Add a tiny blush stitch on each cheek with pale pink yarn, if desired.
- Sew the white daisy near one ear, above the eye line.
- Make sure the nose is centered over the black mouth line.
Optional Cheek Shaping
To make the face match the rounded look in the image, you can softly sculpt the eyes and cheeks. Use strong beige sewing thread or matching yarn. Insert the needle at the bottom of the head, come out beside one eye, go back beside the same eye, and return to the bottom.
Repeat on the other side, then pull gently. Do not pull too hard. The eyes should sit slightly into the head, while the white muzzle remains puffy and cute.
Final Accessory Placement
- Place the blue bag beside the mouse or hang it from one shoulder.
- Place the sunhat to one side with the bow facing forward.
- Set the watering can near the body as a garden prop.
- Set the berry basket near the mouse’s feet.
- Place the larger strawberry close to the baby chick or sew it to the head area only if you want a fixed display.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Check the full toy from the front before weaving in the final ends. The mouse should have a large round head, wide ears, small body, blue overalls, white socks, blue sandals, and the baby chick perched clearly on top. The face should look soft and balanced.
- Secure the safety eyes or bead eyes firmly.
- Make sure the muzzle is centered and lightly stuffed.
- Check that the ears are symmetrical from the front.
- Reinforce the chick with extra stitches if the toy will be handled often.
- Trim all yarn tails only after the final shape is approved.
Care Notes
Because this design includes small sewn accessories, embroidered flowers, buttons, and possible bead eyes, it is best used as a decorative handmade toy. If making it for a young child, replace beads and buttons with embroidery and sew all parts extra securely.
- Spot clean with cool water and mild soap.
- Do not machine wash if the toy includes buttons or glued details.
- Do not tumble dry.
- Reshape with your hands while damp.
- Let the toy air dry fully before storing.

- The baby chick is yellow, centered on the head, and securely sewn.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Keep the finished mouse away from direct sunlight for long periods, especially if you used cotton yarn in soft pastel colors. Sunlight can fade the blue overalls, pink ears, and yellow chick over time.
For dust removal, use a soft dry brush and gently brush in the direction of the stitches. Avoid pulling on the flower appliqués, bag strap, hat bow, or chick wings. These small details keep the project close to the pictured design.
If the toy becomes flattened during storage, gently massage the head, ears, and body back into shape. The ears can be lightly steamed from a distance, then shaped flat by hand. Do not press hot steam directly onto safety eyes or buttons.
Store the mouse upright in a clean fabric bag or display box. Keep the separate accessories together so the picnic garden scene remains complete. With careful handling, the finished Little Mouse with a Baby Chick will stay bright, neat, and charming for many seasons.
