Crochet Tutorial: Garden Bee Lamb Doll – Free Crochet Pattern

This Garden Bee Lamb Doll is a sweet amigurumi lamb wearing sage green garden overalls, matching sandals, and a small crossbody bag decorated with daisies. The doll has cream woolly features, soft floppy ears, textured loop-stitch brown fleece hair, tiny bees resting in the curls, embroidered sleepy eyes, carrots, a daisy-trimmed sun hat, and a miniature watering can for a charming garden scene.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Pattern Overview

This pattern is written in US crochet terms and is designed to recreate the lamb doll shown in the image as closely as possible. The finished doll has a large rounded lamb head, a smaller soft body, long cream arms and legs, sage green short overalls, a matching shoulder bag, flower-trimmed sandals, a wide garden hat, two carrots, one watering can, tiny daisies, ladybugs, and small bees tucked into the curly fleece.

The doll is worked mostly in continuous spiral rounds. Use a stitch marker in the first stitch of every round. Stuff firmly but not so tightly that the stitches stretch open. The head should be the largest visual piece, the body slightly narrower, and the arms and legs slender with soft rounded ends.

Finished Size

  • Doll height: about 11 inches from top of fleece hair to bottom of sandals.
  • Head width: about 4.5 inches across after stuffing.
  • Body height: about 4 inches before legs.
  • Leg length: about 3 inches from shorts hem to sandal sole.
  • Hat diameter: about 5.75 to 6 inches across.
  • Carrots: about 2.5 inches long each.
  • Watering can: about 2 inches wide excluding spout and handle.

Skill Level

Confident beginner to intermediate. The main doll uses simple amigurumi shaping. The detailed look comes from small decorations, loop stitches, embroidery, and careful assembly. Beginners can complete this pattern by working slowly and checking stitch counts at the end of each round.

Materials

  • Sport weight or light DK cotton yarn in cream for lamb skin and legs.
  • Light DK cotton yarn in warm beige for muzzle, sandal soles, hat, watering can, and lamb inner ears.
  • Light DK cotton yarn in taupe-brown for curly fleece hair.

Abbreviations

  • MR: magic ring
  • ch: chain
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sc: single crochet
  • hdc: half double crochet
  • dc: double crochet
  • inc: 2 sc in the same stitch
  • dec: invisible single crochet decrease

  • R: round or row
  • FO: fasten off
  • Loop st: insert hook into next stitch, wrap yarn around finger to form a loop, pull through stitch, yarn over, pull through both loops on hook.

Gauge

With a 2.5 mm hook and light DK yarn, 6 sc and 6 rounds should measure about 1 inch. Exact gauge is not critical, but tight amigurumi stitches are important. If stuffing shows through, use a smaller hook. If the doll becomes too stiff, loosen your tension slightly.

Important Construction Notes

  • Work the lamb head and body in cream yarn, then add clothing separately over the body.
  • The head is large and softly oval, with the face placed low on the front.
  • The fleece hair is built from a taupe-brown cap covered in loop stitches and extra chain curls.
  • The ears are sewn to the sides of the head at a slight downward angle.
  • The overalls are sage green with short legs, a front bib, shoulder straps, and a diagonal bag strap.
  • The doll’s expression is embroidered with closed sleepy eyes and a tiny lamb nose.
  • Small daisies, bees, and ladybugs are sewn on after the main doll is assembled.

Muzzle Shaping by Embroidery

The lamb in the image does not have a large raised muzzle. The face is smooth, with a small stitched nose and mouth near the lower center. To keep this look, do not add a separate bulky muzzle. Instead, use embroidery to define the tiny lamb mouth.

  • Mark the front of the head. The lower face should sit between R15 and R20.
  • Use dark brown or black embroidery thread.
  • Make a small horizontal V-shaped nose over 2 stitches at R17.
  • From the center of the nose, stitch one vertical line down about 3 rounds.
  • From the bottom of that line, make one short diagonal stitch to the left and one to the right.
  • Keep the mouth fine and delicate, matching the calm expression in the image.

Sleepy Eyes

The eyes are closed, gentle, and slightly curved. They are placed wide apart, giving the lamb a peaceful garden-doll expression.

  • Place the left eye over R14-R15, about 8 stitches left of the center face line.
  • Place the right eye over R14-R15, about 8 stitches right of the center face line.
  • Each eye is one curved line about 7 stitches long.
  • Use black embroidery thread and make 2 passes for each eye.
  • Add one tiny downward eyelash at the outer end of each eye if desired.

Inner Cheek Softening

To create the soft lamb face shown in the photo, lightly pinch the lower sides of the head while stuffing. Avoid making a pointed chin. The head should look plush, rounded, and baby-like, with the fleece hair sitting like a cap around the forehead.

Ears

Make 2 outer ears in cream and 2 smaller inner ear patches in beige. The finished ears are oval, soft, and sewn to the sides of the head with the tips pointing slightly down.

  • Repeat 12 to 15 curls across the front hairline.
  • Make the center curls slightly longer by chaining 9 or 10.
  • Make side curls shorter by chaining 6 or 7.

Place the hair cap on the head so the curls begin just above the embroidered eyes. The cap should cover the top and sides but leave the lamb face open. Sew around the edge with small hidden stitches. Fluff the loops gently with your fingers.

Body

The body is cream under the clothing and shaped like a small pear. The sage green overalls will cover most of it, but the upper chest remains visible under the bib.

  1. Use cream yarn.
  2. R1: Make 6 sc in MR. (6)
  3. R2: Inc in each st around. (12)

Assembly Order

Good assembly is what makes this doll match the image. Pin every piece before sewing. Check the front view often. The lamb should look centered, with the head large and calm, the overalls neat, and the accessories balanced around the body.

  1. Sew the joined legs firmly to the bottom of the body if not already attached.
  2. Slide the sage green overalls onto the body and legs.
  3. Adjust the shorts hems so both legs are even.
  4. Sew the bib flat to the front of the body if it lifts.
  5. Sew the shoulder straps and buttons in place.
  6. Sew the arms to the upper sides of the body.
  7. Sew the head to the neck opening with many firm stitches.
  8. Sew the ears to the sides of the head under the future hairline.
  9. Sew the fleece hair cap onto the head.
  10. Add extra curls across the forehead if the front needs more fullness.
  11. Attach bees and flowers into the fleece.
  12. Sew sandals onto the feet.
  13. Attach the bag strap diagonally across the body.
  14. Sew daisies and ladybugs onto the overalls and bag.
  15. Place the hat, carrots, and watering can beside the doll for display.

Exact Decoration Placement Guide

  • Fleece bees: one bee at the upper right hairline, one at upper left side, one near the center-left curls.
  • Hair flowers: one pink flower on the right side, one blue flower on the left side, one pale flower near a bee.
  • Overall bib: two white daisies centered on the chest area.
  • Lower shorts: two daisies and one ladybug on the doll’s lower right side.
  • Bag flap: three small daisies in a row across the front flap.
  • Sandals: one white daisy on the outer side of each sandal strap.
  • Hat: white daisies form a full ring around the base of the crown.

Making the Doll Look Like the Image

Use a soft cream yarn for the lamb’s face and limbs. The stitch texture should be even and compact, with no stuffing visible. Keep the head larger than the body, because the image has a cute amigurumi proportion with a childlike oversized head.

The overalls should be a muted sage green, not bright green. The shorts are roomy and rounded, with a visible horizontal texture across the waist. The pant legs stop above the knees, leaving long cream legs visible.

The fleece hair needs the most texture. If your loop stitches are too sparse, add more chain curls after sewing the cap. The curls should sit over the forehead, around the sides, and behind the bees and flowers.

The facial embroidery should stay simple. Large eyes or a big smile will change the character. The image shows a sleepy lamb with closed eyes and a tiny straight mouth, so use thin dark embroidery and avoid heavy details.

Optional Stability Tips

  • Add a small flat plastic circle inside the body base before final stuffing if you want the doll to sit upright.
  • Use pins to hold the head in position before sewing.
  • Sew around the neck twice for strength.
  • Do not overstuff the arms, or they will stick outward instead of hanging down.
  • Lightly steam the hat brim from a safe distance if it curls too much.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

After all pieces are attached, check the doll from the front. The eyes should be level, the nose centered, the ears even, and the hair cap balanced. Add a few hidden stitches between the curls and the head if the hair lifts away.

Shape the overalls by smoothing them downward over the body. Adjust the bag strap so it crosses the chest diagonally from shoulder to hip. Sew tiny anchor stitches under the strap where they will not show.

For the final face, use a yarn needle to lightly pull the mouth thread ends into the head and secure them at the back under the hair cap. This keeps the face clean and avoids visible knots.

Care Notes

  • Spot clean with cool water and mild soap.
  • Do not machine wash if buttons, bees, flowers, or small decorations are attached.
  • Let the doll air dry flat on a towel.
  • Gently reshape the hat brim, bag, and ears while damp.
  • Keep away from pets or very young children if small buttons are used.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • Head is firmly sewn and does not wobble.
  • Closed eyes are even and softly curved.
  • Ears sit under the fleece hairline and point slightly downward.
  • Overalls fit smoothly with two front buttons.
  • Bag sits on the left hip with the strap crossing the body.
  • Bees, daisies, and ladybugs are securely stitched.
  • Sandals are even and have one flower on each foot.
  • Hat has a full daisy band around the crown.
  • Carrots and watering can are shaped and lightly stuffed.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

To preserve the Garden Bee Lamb Doll, store it in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Cotton yarn can fade if left near a bright window for long periods. Keep the doll in a breathable cotton bag or display box when not in use.

If dust gathers on the fleece curls, use a soft clean brush and gently lift the loops. Do not comb the curls hard, because this can stretch the loop stitches and change the woolly texture.

For small stains, dab the area with a damp cloth. Avoid rubbing the embroidered face, bees, flowers, and ladybugs. Let the doll dry completely before storing it again.

If the hat brim bends, place it flat under a light book for a few hours. Do not press the crown too firmly. The goal is to flatten only the brim while keeping the rounded garden hat shape.

Finished Garden Bee Lamb Doll

Your finished crochet lamb should have a peaceful cream face, soft floppy ears, curly taupe fleece hair, tiny bees, pastel flowers, sage green garden overalls, a matching crossbody bag, decorated sandals, carrots, a daisy sun hat, and a miniature watering can. The final look should feel gentle, handmade, and garden-inspired, just like the doll in the image.
