Pattern Overview

This pattern makes a seated knitted white tiger doll with a soft amigurumi-style shape. The finished tiger has a large rounded head, a short oval muzzle, small rounded ears, a plump body, long arms, seated legs, a curved striped tail, and removable garden accessories.

The design is worked mostly in the round on double-pointed needles or circular needles using the magic loop method. Small flat pieces, such as the bow, bag flap, sandal bows, carrot leaves, and flower button details, are worked back and forth.

  • Finished size: approximately 11.5 in / 29 cm seated, including ears.
  • Skill level: adventurous beginner to intermediate.
  • Main technique: stockinette knitted in the round with sewn shaping and embroidered details.
  • Needle size: US 3 / 3.25 mm for the doll and outfit.
  • Gauge: 24 sts and 32 rounds = 4 in / 10 cm in stockinette, before stuffing.

Important Gauge and Stuffing Notes

Use a firm gauge so the stuffing does not show between the stitches. The tiger in the image has smooth, tight stockinette stitches with visible vertical knit columns. If your fabric feels loose, change to a smaller needle before starting the doll.

Stuff every part gradually. The head should be round and full, but not hard. The body should be soft enough to sit naturally. The arms and legs should be slightly firmer at the paws and softer near the shoulder or hip joints.

  • Stuff the head very evenly to keep the face round.
  • Stuff the muzzle lightly so it stays soft and slightly raised.
  • Stuff the body firmly at the lower belly and softly near the neckline.
  • Stuff the tail only enough to hold a gentle curve.
  • Do not overstuff the overalls, bag, sandals, pumpkin, acorns, or mushroom.

Main Head

The head is a large rounded shape with a slightly tapered chin. It is knitted in cream yarn, then decorated with black embroidered tiger stripes. Work in the round and use a marker to show the beginning of each round.

Pause here to place the eyes. Insert the safety eyes between Rnds 22 and 23, about 11 stitches apart. The eyes should sit slightly above the center of the face, leaving room for the pink nose and cream muzzle below.

  1. Rnd 37: K3, k2tog; repeat around. 32 sts.
  2. Rnd 38: K all sts.
  3. Rnd 39: K2, k2tog; repeat around. 24 sts.
  4. Stuff the head firmly, shaping the cheeks with your hands.
  5. Rnd 40: K1, k2tog; repeat around. 16 sts.
  6. Rnd 41: K2tog around. 8 sts.
  7. Cut yarn, thread through remaining sts, pull closed, and weave in securely.

Muzzle and Nose

The muzzle is a short oval knitted separately and sewn onto the lower front of the head. It should sit below the eyes, centered on the face. The pink nose is embroidered over the upper center of the muzzle.

  1. With cream yarn, CO 8 sts and work flat.
  2. Row 1: P all sts.
  3. Row 2: Kfb, K6, kfb. 10 sts.
  4. Row 3: P all sts.
  5. Row 4: Kfb, K8, kfb. 12 sts.
  6. Rows 5-8: Work in st st, beginning with a purl row.
  7. Row 9: P all sts.
  8. Row 10: K2tog, K8, ssk. 10 sts.
  9. Row 11: P all sts.
  10. Row 12: K2tog, K6, ssk. 8 sts.
  11. BO all sts, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Pin the muzzle to the head with its top edge between Rnds 25 and 26 of the head. Lightly stuff under the center before sewing. Sew around the edge with small mattress stitches so the muzzle looks softly raised, not flat.

  • With pink yarn, embroider a triangle nose over the upper center of the muzzle, about 5 stitches wide and 4 rows tall.
  • Make horizontal satin stitches first, then one vertical stitch down from the bottom point.
  • With black yarn, embroider a short mouth line from the nose down 3 rows.
  • Add two small curved mouth stitches, one to each side.

Ears

The ears are small rounded cream pieces with a softly folded base. They sit high on the head and angle slightly outward. The red bow is sewn in front of the left ear, so keep the left ear secure but not hidden.

  1. Make 2. With cream yarn, CO 18 sts and join in the round.
  2. Rnds 1-4: K all sts.
  3. Rnd 5: K4, k2tog; repeat around. 15 sts.
  4. Rnd 6: K all sts.
  5. Rnd 7: K3, k2tog; repeat around. 12 sts.
  6. Rnd 8: K all sts.
  7. Rnd 9: K2, k2tog; repeat around. 9 sts.
  8. Cut yarn, thread through remaining sts, pull closed, and flatten gently.

Do not overstuff the ears. Place them on the head between Rnds 9 and 16, about 17 stitches apart across the top. Sew the base in a shallow curve so each ear looks rounded and slightly cupped.

Body

The body is cream at the top, then mostly covered by pale blue and cream striped overalls. The belly is rounded and seated. The neck is narrow so the oversized head sits neatly on top.

  1. With cream yarn, CO 10 sts. Join in the round.
  2. Rnd 1: K all sts. 10 sts.
  3. Rnd 2: Kfb in every st. 20 sts.

  22. Rnd 37: K all sts.
  23. Rnd 38: K6, k2tog; repeat around. 35 sts.
  24. Rnd 39: K all sts.
  25. Rnd 40: K5, k2tog; repeat around. 30 sts.
  26. Stuff body firmly at the base and softly near the neck.
  27. Rnd 41: K3, k2tog; repeat around. 24 sts.
  28. Rnd 42: K2, k2tog; repeat around. 18 sts.
  29. BO all sts, leaving a long tail for sewing the head.

The striped lower body should show pale blue horizontal lines across the belly, matching the image. Keep the color changes neat at the back, where they will be partly hidden by the tail and bag strap.

Overall Bib

The front bib sits over the cream upper chest and has two pale blue straps that reach over the shoulders. Tiny buttons are sewn at the top corners, and small orange carrot embroidery decorates the front.

  1. With cream yarn, CO 20 sts and work flat.
  2. Rows 1-2: K all sts for a garter edge.
  3. Row 3: K all sts.
  4. Row 4: P all sts.
  5. Rows 5-12: Work in st st.

  9. Row 16: P all sts.
  10. Rows 17-18: K all sts for a garter top edge.
  11. BO all sts.

📌Thank you for reading the article

Sew the bib to the front upper body with the bottom edge placed at Rnd 15 of the body. The top edge should sit just below the neck. Leave the sides slightly loose so the bib looks like a separate layer over the knitted body.

Overall Straps

  1. Make 2. With pale blue yarn, CO 5 sts.
  2. Rows 1-34: K all sts in garter stitch.
  3. BO all sts, leaving a sewing tail.

Attach one end of each strap to the upper bib corners. Bring each strap over the shoulder and sew the back end to the upper back of the body. Add one small tan button to each front strap corner.

Carrot Embroidery on Bib

  • Use orange yarn to make three small carrots across the front bib.
  • Each carrot is 4 rows tall and 2 stitches wide at the top, tapering to 1 stitch at the bottom.
  • Place one carrot in the center and one on each side, spaced 4 stitches apart.
  • Use green yarn to make two short leaf stitches above each carrot.

Legs

The legs are long, seated, and striped near the shorts. Each leg has a cream tiger foot with black stripes. The upper leg is worked in the same pale blue and cream stripes as the overalls.

  1. Make 2. With cream yarn, CO 10 sts and join in the round.
  2. Rnd 1: K all sts. 10 sts.
  3. Rnd 2: Kfb in every st. 20 sts.
  4. Rnd 3: K all sts.

  7. Rnd 9: K10, kfb, K2, kfb, K10. 26 sts.
  8. Rnds 10-13: K all sts.
  9. Embroider two black toe lines on the front foot now, before the leg becomes harder to handle.
  10. Rnd 14: K4, k2tog; repeat to last 2 sts, K2. 22 sts.
  11. Rnds 15-18: K all sts in cream.
  12. Work Rnds 19-20 in pale blue.
  13. Work Rnds 21-23 in cream.
  14. Work Rnds 24-25 in pale blue.
  15. Work Rnds 26-28 in cream.
  16. Work Rnds 29-30 in pale blue.
  17. Rnd 31: K all sts in cream.
  18. Rnd 32: K3, k2tog; repeat to last 2 sts, K2. 18 sts.
  19. Stuff foot firmly and upper leg moderately.
  20. Rnd 33: K2, k2tog; repeat to last 2 sts, K2. 14 sts.
  21. BO all sts, leaving a long sewing tail.

Flatten the top opening slightly before sewing. Attach the legs to the lower front body between Rnds 8 and 13, angled forward so the tiger sits like the image. The feet should point outward just a little.

Arms

The arms are cream with black tiger markings. They hang down at the sides and are slightly rounded at the paws. Keep the arms narrower than the legs so the outfit remains visible.

  1. Make 2. With cream yarn, CO 8 sts and join in the round.
  2. Rnd 1: K all sts. 8 sts.
  3. Rnd 2: Kfb in every st. 16 sts.
  4. Rnds 3-8: K all sts.
  5. Rnd 9: K6, k2tog, K6, k2tog. 14 sts.
  6. Rnds 10-24: K all sts.
  7. Rnd 25: K5, k2tog; repeat around. 12 sts.
  8. Stuff paw firmly and arm lightly.
  9. Rnd 26: K2tog around. 6 sts.
  10. Cut yarn, thread through remaining sts, pull closed, and leave a sewing tail.

Sew the arms to the upper sides of the body at Rnds 12-15. Angle them downward so the paws rest near the striped overalls. Add black embroidered stripes after sewing, so the stripe placement looks balanced on both arms.

Tail

The tail is cream with black bands and a black tip. It curves to the side behind the seated tiger. Work it as a narrow tube and stuff lightly so it stays flexible.

  1. With black yarn, CO 8 sts and join in the round.
  2. Rnds 1-4: K all sts in black.
  3. Switch to cream. Rnds 5-9: K all sts.
  4. Switch to black. Rnds 10-12: K all sts.

  8. Stuff very lightly as you go.
  9. Rnd 30: K2tog around. 4 sts.
  10. Cut yarn, thread through remaining sts, and close.

Sew the tail to the back lower body at a slight left angle. Curve it around the side and use one hidden tack stitch near the middle if you want it to hold the same shape as the picture.

Black Tiger Stripes

The white tiger markings are a key part of the design. They are embroidered after the doll pieces are stuffed and assembled. Use black yarn split into a thinner strand if your yarn is bulky. The stripes should look irregular, tapered, and hand-stitched, not perfectly identical.

Face Stripe Placement

  • Forehead center: embroider 3 short V-shaped marks between Rnds 12 and 20.
  • Above each eye: add one angled stripe, 4 stitches long, pointing toward the center forehead.
  • Outer cheeks: add 3 fan-shaped stripes on each side, beginning near the side of the muzzle and pointing outward.
  • Lower cheek: add one short curved stripe under each eye, about 3 stitches long.
  • Top head: add 4 scattered short stripes, each 3-5 stitches long.
  • Keep the muzzle mostly cream so the pink nose remains clear.

Body, Arm, Leg, and Tail Stripes

  • Arms: add 3 black angled bands on each upper arm, each band 4-6 stitches wide.
  • Wrists: add one narrow black stripe above each paw.
  • Legs: add two black stripes on each cream lower leg, just above the sandal.
  • Feet: add two black toe lines on each front paw.
  • Tail: the black yarn bands are already knitted in, but you may add small duplicate stitches to sharpen edges.

For clean stripes, bring the needle up at the wide end of the stripe, make a long diagonal stitch, then add one or two shorter stitches beside it. This makes each stripe taper naturally, like the markings in the image.

Red Head Bow

The red bow sits near the tiger’s left ear. It has two puffy loops and a wrapped center. Work it tightly so it holds its shape and looks like a small knitted ribbon.

  1. With red yarn, CO 18 sts and work flat.
  2. Rows 1-10: Work in st st, beginning with a knit row.
  3. Rows 11-12: K all sts for a firm edge.
  4. BO all sts, leaving a long tail.
  5. Fold the rectangle so the short edges meet. Sew the short edges together.
  6. Pinch the center tightly and wrap yarn around the middle 10-12 times.
  7. Secure at the back with several stitches.

Sew the bow in front of the left ear, slightly tilted. The top loop should sit above the ear base, and the lower loop should rest against the side of the head.

Red Crossbody Garden Bag

The red bag is worn across the front of the tiger with a diagonal strap. It rests on the left side of the belly and has a small flower button on the flap.

Bag Body

  1. With red yarn, CO 16 sts and work flat.
  2. Rows 1-2: K all sts.
  3. Rows 3-18: Work in st st.
  4. Rows 19-20: K all sts.
  5. BO all sts.
  6. Make a second matching rectangle.

Place the two rectangles together with wrong sides facing. Sew the side and bottom edges, leaving the top open. Do not stuff the bag, but place one tiny flat piece of felt or folded yarn inside if you want it to hold shape.

Bag Flap

  1. With red yarn, CO 16 sts.
  2. Row 1: K all sts.
  3. Row 2: P all sts.
  4. Row 3: K2, ssk, K8, k2tog, K2. 14 sts.
  5. Row 4: P all sts.
  6. Row 5: K2, ssk, K6, k2tog, K2. 12 sts.
  7. Row 6: P all sts.
  8. Row 7: K all sts.
  9. BO all sts.

Sew the flap to the back top edge of the bag and fold it forward. Add a small cream flower button at the center of the flap, or embroider a flower with 5 cream lazy daisy stitches and one yellow center stitch.

Bag Strap

  1. With red yarn, CO 4 sts.
  2. Work a 4-stitch I-cord for 19 in / 48 cm, or long enough to cross from the right shoulder to the left hip.
  3. BO all sts and sew one end to each top corner of the bag.

Place the strap over the right shoulder and across the chest. Tack it lightly at the shoulder and side seam so it stays in place while still looking like a separate accessory.

Knitted Sandals

The sandals are tan with darker soles and pale blue bows. They fit over the tiger’s cream feet and leave the embroidered toes visible. Make two sandals, shaping each one slightly around the foot before sewing.

  16. Stuff firmly into a round pumpkin shape.
  17. Rnd 30: K2tog around. 12 sts.
  18. Cut yarn with a very long tail, thread through remaining sts, and pull closed.

To create pumpkin grooves, bring the long orange yarn tail from the bottom center to the top center. Pull snugly, wrap around the outside, and pass through the center again. Repeat this 6 times, spacing the grooves evenly around the pumpkin.

Pumpkin Rolled Base Ring

  1. With orange yarn, CO 5 sts.
  2. Work a 5-stitch I-cord for 13 in / 33 cm.
  3. Wrap the cord around the pumpkin base and sew the ends together.

Sew one cap to the top of each acorn. Add a tiny 3-stitch brown I-cord stem if desired. The purl round gives the cap a little texture, similar to the small acorns in the photo.

Tiny Mushroom

The mushroom has a cream stem and a red cap with white spots. It is small enough to sit near the acorns and gives the garden scene a woodland detail.

Mushroom Stem

  1. With cream yarn, CO 8 sts and join in the round.
  2. Rnds 1-6: K all sts.
  3. Rnd 7: K2tog around. 4 sts.
  4. Cut yarn and close. Stuff very lightly.

Mushroom Cap

  4. Rnd 3: K1, kfb; repeat around. 24 sts.
  5. Rnds 4-6: K all sts.
  6. Rnd 7: K2, k2tog; repeat around. 18 sts.
  7. BO all sts.

Sew the red cap over the cream stem. Embroider 5 small white spots on the cap using duplicate stitch or tiny satin stitches.

Optional Knitted Shorts Edge Texture

The hem of the overalls in the image has a slightly textured ridge. Add this detail to the lower body and leg openings with pale blue surface stitching after the legs are sewn on.

  • Using pale blue yarn, make one row of duplicate stitch around the lower edge of each short leg.
  • Add a second row of small horizontal stitches directly above it if you want a thicker cuff.
  • Keep the stitches relaxed so the legs still bend naturally.

Facial Shaping

The face should look gentle and slightly rounded. Use a long cream yarn tail to add subtle eye shaping before finishing the facial embroidery. This makes the safety eyes sit neatly into the head.

  1. Insert a long needle at the bottom of the head and bring it out beside the left eye.
  2. Make one tiny stitch beside the eye and return to the bottom opening point.
  3. Pull gently to create a slight indentation.
  4. Repeat for the right eye with equal tension.
  5. Knot securely and hide the yarn end inside the head.

Do not pull too tightly. The tiger should keep a soft plush expression. The eyes should look glossy and alert, not sunken deeply into the face.

Assembly Order

Follow this order to keep the proportions accurate. Pin every part before sewing, then view the doll from the front, side, and top. The head should be large, the body rounded, and the limbs relaxed like a seated soft toy.

  1. Sew the muzzle to the head and embroider the pink nose.
  2. Add safety eyes if not already secured, then finish head stuffing and close.
  3. Sew ears to the top sides of the head.
  4. Attach the head to the body using the body yarn tail.
  5. Sew legs to the lower front body in a seated angle.
  6. Sew arms to the upper body sides.
  7. Sew tail to the lower back.
  8. Sew bib and straps in place, then add buttons and carrot embroidery.
  9. Add black tiger stripes on face, arms, legs, and any visible body areas.
  10. Sew the red bow near the left ear.
  11. Make and attach the red crossbody bag.
  12. Make sandals and sew them onto the feet.
  13. Make the pumpkin, acorns, and mushroom props.

Detailed Sewing Placement

When attaching the head, place the lower head opening directly over the body neck. Use small mattress stitches around the full neckline. After one full round of sewing, add extra stitches at the back of the neck so the head does not tip forward.

The legs should sit on the lower body rather than hang straight down. Sew the top of each leg across a 9-stitch-wide area. Angle the knees forward and rotate the feet outward by about 15 degrees for the relaxed seated pose shown in the image.

The arms are attached just below the shoulder line. Sew each arm around the top 6 closed stitches, then add one hidden tack about halfway down the arm to keep the paws close to the sides.

The bag should sit over the striped belly and partially cover the front of the overalls. Do not sew the entire strap flat. Tack only at the shoulder and back hip so it keeps a natural diagonal line.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

After all parts are attached, check the tiger’s face from the front. Add any missing black stripes carefully, keeping both sides balanced but not perfectly identical. White tiger markings should look natural, with slightly different lengths and angles.

  • Add a few short black stitches near the outer corners of the eyes.
  • Use pink yarn to add one tiny horizontal stitch under the nose for softness.
  • Brush the cream yarn very lightly with your fingers only, not a wire brush.
  • Make sure the red bow is tilted upward and does not cover the eye.
  • Check that the pumpkin, acorns, and mushroom sit flat beside the doll.

Care Notes

This knitted tiger is best used as a decorative handmade doll. Because it includes safety eyes, buttons, and small accessories, it is not intended for children under 3 years old.

  • Spot clean gently with cool water and mild soap.
  • Do not machine wash if the doll contains safety eyes, buttons, or delicate embroidery.
  • Press excess moisture with a towel instead of wringing.
  • Air dry flat in a shaded place.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The head is round and larger than the body.
  • The muzzle is centered below the eyes and lightly raised.
  • The pink nose is neat, soft, and triangular.
  • The black face stripes are tapered and balanced.
  • The ears sit high and slightly outward.
  • The red bow is attached near the left ear.
  • The overalls have pale blue stripes and a cream bib.
  • The carrot embroidery is visible on the chest.
  • The red bag crosses diagonally and rests on the belly.
  • The sandals have tan straps and pale blue bows.
  • The pumpkin has six clear grooves and a green stem.
  • The acorns and mushroom are small enough to match the garden scene.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Store the finished tiger away from direct sunlight to protect the cream yarn, pale blue stripes, red bow, and orange pumpkin from fading. Keep the doll in a dry place with gentle airflow.

If dust collects on the surface, use a soft clean cloth or a cool hair dryer on the lowest setting. Hold the dryer at least 12 in / 30 cm away from the knitted fabric.

  • Do not soak the red bag or bow for a long time, as red yarn may bleed.
  • Do not scrub the embroidered tiger stripes.
  • Reshape the ears, muzzle, and pumpkin grooves while damp if needed.
  • Keep the acorns and mushroom in a small fabric bag when storing the set.
  • Refresh the shape by gently pressing the stuffing back into place with your hands.

Your Pumpkin Garden White Tiger is now complete, with its soft striped overalls, cheerful red accessories, tiny garden bag, cozy sandals, and autumn pumpkin props. Display it on a shelf, craft table, or seasonal handmade setup for a warm garden-inspired knitted scene.
