Gauge and Construction Notes

Gauge is not critical, but the stitches should be tight enough that stuffing does not show. For the clean, compact texture in the photo, use a hook smaller than your yarn label recommends.

The fox is worked mostly in continuous rounds. The head and body are made separately and sewn together. The skirt is attached around the waist, with a dark brown base, green leaf trim, large yellow sunflower petals, and a big sunflower center on the chest.

The doll in the image has a large head, small tapered body, short rounded arms, long straight legs, and soft fox ears. The face has a wide white mask that forms two rounded cheeks and a central muzzle area.

Color Guide

  • Peach-orange: head, ears, body, arms, legs, and tail.
  • White: lower face mask, muzzle, tail tip, tiny flower centers if desired.
  • Golden yellow: sunflower petals, skirt petals, shoe flowers, tote flower, hat flowers, bee body accents.
  • Dark brown: sunflower centers, skirt base, shoe soles, hat band, tote straps.
  • Green: leaves, skirt leaf trim, sunflower leaves, sandal leaves.
  • Beige and tan: straw hat, tote bag, watering can, and tiny pot.
  • Black: eyes, lashes, nose, mouth, bee stripes, sunglasses arms.
  • Pink: cheeks and inner ears.

Head

Start with peach-orange yarn. Work in continuous rounds. Stuff gradually, keeping the front of the head smooth and round. The head is slightly wider than the body and tilts gently forward after assembly.

  7. R29: sc 2, dec around. 18 sts.

Stuff firmly, especially around the cheeks. The head should look plump, round, and slightly heart-shaped from the front. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing to the body.

Muzzle Patch

The white muzzle is a small oval sewn on top of the lower white face area. It gives the fox a gentle snout and helps place the black nose neatly.

  1. R1: with white, ch 6. Starting in the second ch from hook, sc 4, 3 sc in last ch. Work on the other side of the chain, sc 3, inc in last st. 12 sts.
  2. R2: inc, sc 3, inc 3 times, sc 3, inc 2 times. 18 sts.
  3. R3: sc 1, inc, sc 4, sc 1, inc, sc 1, inc, sc 4, sc 1, inc, sc 1, inc. 24 sts.

FO with a long tail. Sew the muzzle centered over R19 to R23 of the head. Lightly stuff underneath as you sew so the snout raises gently but does not become bulky.

Fox Nose and Mouth

  • With black yarn or embroidery thread, stitch a small triangle nose at the top center of the muzzle.
  • Make the nose about 4 stitches wide and 3 rows tall.
  • From the bottom point of the nose, embroider one short vertical line down.
  • Add a tiny curved smile on both sides, using one strand of black thread.
  • Keep the mouth small and delicate, matching the sweet expression in the image.

Cheeks

The cheeks are pale pink circles placed on both sides of the muzzle. They sit on the white face mask and give the fox a soft handmade look.

  1. R1: with light pink, 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
  2. R2: sl st in first st and FO.

Make 2. Sew one cheek below each eye, slightly outward from the muzzle. Flatten them as you sew so they look like small blush spots, not raised buttons.

Eyelashes and Brows

  • Using black embroidery thread, sew 3 short lashes beside each eye.
  • The upper lash points upward and outward.
  • The middle lash points straight outward.
  • The lower lash angles gently downward.
  • With dark gray or black thread, stitch a tiny curved brow above each eye.
  • Keep the brows very subtle so the face stays cute and calm.

Ears

Make 2 outer ears in peach-orange. The ears are triangular, softly stuffed, and sewn at a slight outward angle on top of the head. Add pink inner ear patches before attaching.

  1. R1: 4 sc in MR. 4 sts.

  11. R11: sc 6, inc around. 16 sts.
  12. R12: sc around. 16 sts.

Do not overstuff. Add only a small amount of fiberfill at the base. Flatten the base and sc through both layers with 8 sc. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Inner Ear Patches

  1. R1: with light pink, ch 5. Starting in the second ch from hook, sc 3, 3 sc in last ch. Work on the other side, sc 2, inc. 10 sts.
  2. R2: sc 1, hdc 2, dc 2, hdc 2, sc 3. 10 sts.

FO and sew one patch inside each ear. Sew the ears to the head over R5 to R10, about 13 stitches apart. The ear with the sunflower accent should sit slightly more visible on the viewer’s right side.

Body

The body is smaller than the head, with a rounded tummy and narrow neck. The sunflower dress covers most of the waist and hip area, so keep the body smooth but not oversized.

  1. R1: with peach-orange, 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
  2. R2: inc around. 12 sts.
  3. R3: sc 1, inc around. 18 sts.

Stuff firmly at the bottom and lightly near the neck. FO, leaving a long tail. The neck opening should match the head opening so the large head sits securely.

Legs

Make 2 legs in peach-orange. The legs are straight and narrow, with a small rounded foot at the bottom. The sunflower sandals will be sewn onto the feet later.

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
  2. R2: inc around. 12 sts.
  3. R3: sc 1, inc around. 18 sts.
  4. R4: BLO sc around. 18 sts.

  8. R8: inc, sc 10. 12 sts.
  9. R9 to R21: sc around. 12 sts for 13 rounds.

Stuff the foot firmly and the leg lightly. Flatten the top and sc through both layers with 6 sc. FO, leaving a long tail. Sew the legs under the body between R2 and R5, leaving about 4 stitches between them.

Arms

Make 2 arms in peach-orange. The arms are rounded at the ends and hang slightly outward along the sides of the dress.

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
  2. R2: inc around. 12 sts.
  3. R3: sc 1, inc around. 18 sts.
  4. R4 to R6: sc around. 18 sts for 3 rounds.
  5. R7: sc 1, dec around. 12 sts.
  6. R8 to R18: sc around. 12 sts for 11 rounds.

Stuff the hand firmly and the upper arm lightly. Flatten the top and sc through both layers with 6 sc. FO, leaving a long tail. Sew arms to the body at R18, angling them slightly downward.

Tail

The tail is optional in the photo because the dress covers the back, but adding it gives the fox the correct amigurumi form. Make it slim, curved, and tipped in white.

  1. R1: with white, 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
  2. R2: sc around. 6 sts.
  3. R3: sc 1, inc around. 9 sts.
  4. R4: sc around. 9 sts.
  5. R5: sc 2, inc around. 12 sts.
  6. R6: sc around. 12 sts.
  7. R7: change to peach-orange, sc around. 12 sts.
  8. R8: sc 3, inc around. 15 sts.
  9. R9 to R16: sc around. 15 sts for 8 rounds.
  10. R17: sc 3, dec around. 12 sts.
  11. R18 to R20: sc around. 12 sts for 3 rounds.

Stuff lightly. Flatten the base and sc through both layers with 6 sc. Sew to the back of the body before adding the skirt, placing the tail low enough that it peeks out naturally.

Dark Brown Skirt Base

The dress has a dark brown sunflower-center base visible under the large yellow petals and green leaves. Attach this base around the waist after the body is finished.

  1. Join dark brown yarn around R12 of the body, at the center back.
  2. R1: ch 1, sc evenly around the waist, placing 36 sc. Sl st to first sc.
  3. R2: ch 2, dc inc in each st around. Sl st to first dc. 72 sts.
  4. R3: ch 1, sc around. 72 sts.
  5. R4: ch 1, sc 5, inc around to the end. You should have about 84 sts.
  6. R5: ch 1, sc around. 84 sts.

FO and weave in the end. The base should flare slightly and sit like a small skirt. If it ruffles too much, block it gently with your hands before adding leaves and petals.

Green Leaf Trim for Skirt

The green trim appears as pointed leaves around the lower edge of the skirt. Work each leaf directly into the front loops of the final brown skirt round.

  1. Join green yarn to any front loop of R5 on the skirt.
  2. Ch 6.
  3. Starting in the second ch from hook, sc 1, hdc 1, dc 2, hdc 1.
  4. Sl st into the next front loop of the skirt.
  5. Sl st into the next front loop.
  6. Repeat the leaf from step 2 around the entire skirt edge.

You should have about 28 to 30 small green leaves. FO and weave in the ends. Shape each leaf with your fingers so they point downward under the sunflower petals.

Large Sunflower Petals for Dress

The skirt has a bright sunflower look with long yellow petals layered over the brown base. Make 12 large petals. They should hang down from the waist and overlap slightly.

Large Petal

  1. R1: with golden yellow, ch 12.
  2. R2: starting in the second ch from hook, sc 1, hdc 2, dc 5, hdc 2, 3 sc in last ch. Work on the other side of the chain, hdc 2, dc 5, hdc 2, sc 1. Sl st to first sc.
  3. R3: ch 1, sc 2, hdc 3, dc 5, 3 dc in tip st, dc 5, hdc 3, sc 2, sl st. FO.

Make 12 petals. Sew the flat end of each petal to the upper skirt edge, placing them evenly around the front and sides. Leave the back slightly less crowded so the doll can sit more easily.

Large Chest Sunflower

The fox wears a large sunflower centered on the front of the dress. The dark brown spiral center sits over the chest and the petals spread outward like a flower bib.

Brown Flower Center

  1. R1: with dark brown, 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
  2. R2: inc around. 12 sts.

FO and leave a long tail for sewing. To create the visible spiral texture, use the yarn tail to sew a loose surface spiral from the center outward, following the crochet rounds.

Petals Around Chest Sunflower

Join golden yellow yarn to any front loop of R8 of the brown center. Work petals around the edge.

  1. Ch 5.
  2. Starting in the second ch from hook, sc 1, hdc 1, dc 1, hdc 1.
  3. Sl st into the next front loop of the brown center.
  4. Sl st into the next front loop.
  5. Repeat around until the flower is full.

FO. Sew the sunflower to the front of the body and skirt, centered under the neck. The top of the flower should touch the lower chest, and the bottom should overlap the yellow skirt petals.

Small Sunflower for Ear

The right ear has a bright sunflower with green leaves. Make the flower smaller than the chest sunflower so it sits neatly at the ear base.

Small Brown Center

  1. R1: with dark brown, 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
  2. R2: inc around. 12 sts.
  3. R3: sc 1, inc around. 18 sts.

Sew leaves partly under flower edges so they look tucked in. Do not cover the yellow petals too much. The green should frame the flowers, not dominate them.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

  1. Sew the head to the body using the long tail from the head. Add extra stuffing into the neck as you sew so the head does not wobble.
  2. Sew the ears to the top of the head between R5 and R10. Angle them outward and slightly forward.
  3. Sew the arms to the sides of the body, just under the head. The hands should rest near the upper skirt.
  4. Sew the legs firmly to the bottom of the body. Check that the fox can lie flat or sit gently for photos.
  5. Add the dark brown skirt base around the waist if you have not attached it yet.
  6. Sew the large yellow sunflower petals around the skirt, overlapping each petal slightly.
  7. Add the green leaf trim around the skirt edge, letting the leaves peek out beneath the petals.
  8. Sew the large sunflower to the front of the chest and skirt. Make sure it is centered.
  9. Sew the sunflower sandals onto both feet.
  10. Sew the tiny bees onto two skirt petals, one to the left and one to the right.
  11. Add the ear sunflower to the right ear with leaves behind it.
  12. Place the hat, tote bag, watering can, pot, and sunglasses around the fox for the full garden picnic scene.

After everything is attached, use black thread to refine the face. Add lashes, brows, a small nose, and a tiny mouth. Use pink thread for blush if the cheek circles need extra color.

Care Notes

  • Spot clean with cool water and mild soap.
  • Do not machine wash if you used safety eyes, wire, or stiffened accessories.
  • Press the hat brim and sunflower petals gently back into shape after cleaning.
  • Let the doll dry flat on a towel in a shaded area.
  • Keep the doll away from heavy moisture because the small accessories may lose their shape.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The head is larger than the body and securely sewn to the neck.
  • The white face mask is centered and symmetrical.
  • The eyes sit inside the white mask with lashes on the outer edges.
  • The muzzle is lightly raised, not overstuffed.

  • The large sunflower sits centered on the front of the dress.
  • The ear flower, shoe flowers, tote flower, and hat flowers all match in color.
  • The bees are small and placed on the yellow skirt petals.
  • The hat brim is flat and wide, with a dark brown band.
  • The accessories are neat, lightweight, and photo-ready.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

For long-term display, keep the sunflower fox away from direct sunlight. Yellow and peach-orange yarn can fade if left in bright light for many weeks. Store the doll in a dry place with good airflow.

If dust collects on the petals or hat brim, use a soft brush and gentle strokes. Avoid pulling on the tiny bees, leaves, eyelashes, or sunflower petals because these pieces are decorative and delicate.

To refresh the dress, lightly steam from a distance without touching the yarn directly. Shape each petal with your fingers while it is still slightly warm. Let the doll cool and dry completely before storing.

If the tote, watering can, or sunglasses are used for display only, keep them in a small box when not in use. This prevents the handles, rims, and narrow parts from bending.

Finishing Thought

Your sunflower fox amigurumi is complete when the doll feels balanced, cheerful, and full of tiny garden details. The soft fox face, sunny flower dress, matching sandals, straw hat, tote bag, watering can, flowerpot, bees, and sunglasses create the same sweet summer scene shown in the image.
