This sweet crochet giraffe gardener is made as a tall amigurumi doll with a long yellow neck, rounded muzzle, big white eye patches, soft ears, brown ossicones, brown body spots, green overalls, a cream striped shirt, sandals, a garden tote, carrots, flower decorations, a tiny ladybug, a straw hat, and small plant pots. The finished design is cheerful, detailed, and perfect for a spring garden display.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Finished Size
Using medium weight cotton yarn and a 2.75 mm hook, the finished giraffe measures about 14 inches tall from sandals to ossicone tips when seated. The body is designed to sit on a shelf or table like the photo, with long legs hanging forward and the head slightly oversized for a cute amigurumi look.
Skill Level
This pattern is written for confident beginners to intermediate crocheters. The main shapes use simple single crochet rounds, increases, decreases, color changes, and sewing. The small garden details are worked separately and sewn on at the end.

Gauge and Texture
Gauge is not strict for this amigurumi, but your stitches should be firm enough that stuffing does not show. A good reference is 6 sc and 7 rounds measuring about 1 inch. If your fabric has gaps, use a smaller hook. If your pieces are stiff and difficult to shape, use a slightly larger hook.
Work most parts in continuous spiral rounds. Do not join at the end of each round unless the instruction says to join. Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of every round and move it up as you work.
Color and Shape Notes
The giraffe in the image has a large rounded head, a wide oval muzzle, a narrow long neck, a small seated body, long slim legs, and short arms. The overalls sit high at the waist and have green shorts with brown cuffs. The shirt is cream with thin brown stripes.
The head is yellow with a large white double eye panel on the front. A light brown outline surrounds the white panel and runs down the center between the eyes. The ears are wide and rounded like soft leaves. Two ossicones sit upright on top, yellow at the base and brown at the tips.
Main Head
Use golden yellow yarn. Stuff firmly as you work, especially around the cheeks and back of the head. The front should remain round and smooth so the muzzle can sit neatly on top.

Stuff the head firmly. Shape it into a slightly tall oval with the front gently flattened for the face. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing to the neck later.
White Eye Panel
The eye panel is the large white area on the front of the giraffe face. It is made as one rounded rectangle with a center line added later in light brown.
Use white yarn and work in rows.
- R1: ch 9, sc in the second ch from hook and across. (8)
- R2: ch 1, turn, inc, 6 sc, inc. (10)
- R3: ch 1, turn, inc, 8 sc, inc. (12)

- R9: ch 1, turn, dec, 8 sc, dec. (10)
- R10: ch 1, turn, dec, 6 sc, dec. (8)
Do not fasten off yet. Crochet a border around the panel: ch 1, sc evenly around the full edge, placing 2 sc in each corner. Join with sl st to the first border stitch. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Sew the panel to the front of the head between R9 and R19. Place it centered, with the lower edge just above where the muzzle will sit. Insert the safety eyes through the white panel before final sewing, about 4 stitches apart. Secure the washers inside the head.
Light Brown Face Outline
Use light brown yarn to create the visible outline around the white eye panel. Surface crochet or embroider a neat line around the edge of the white panel. Then embroider one straight vertical line from the top center of the panel down between the eyes to the lower edge.
- Use small even stitches so the line looks tidy.
- Do not pull too tightly or the face will pucker.
- The center line should separate the eyes clearly, just like the image.
Large Rounded Muzzle
The muzzle is wide, oval, and projects forward from the lower face. Use golden yellow yarn. Stuff firmly, but keep the front rounded and smooth.
- R1: ch 9, sc in the second ch from hook, 6 sc, 3 sc in last ch. Continue on the other side of the chain: 6 sc, inc in last st. (18)
- R2: inc, 6 sc, inc in each of next 3 sts, 6 sc, inc in each of next 2 sts. (24)
- R3: sc, inc, 6 sc, (sc, inc) repeat 3 times, 6 sc, (sc, inc) repeat 2 times. (30)

- R5 to R8: sc in each st around. (36)
- R9: (4 sc, dec) repeat 6 times. (30)
- R10: sc in each st around. (30)
FO, leaving a long tail. Add stuffing. Pin the muzzle across the lower front of the head, covering the lower edge of the eye panel slightly. Sew around slowly, adding more stuffing before closing the last inch.
Nostrils and Smile Detail
Use light brown or dark brown yarn. Embroider two small upside-down U-shaped nostrils on the upper front of the muzzle. Place them about 5 stitches apart. For extra depth, add one short vertical stitch inside each nostril.
Add a tiny soft smile under the nostrils if desired. Keep it subtle so the giraffe keeps the gentle gardener expression from the image.
Ears
Make 2 with golden yellow yarn. The ears are wide, slightly cupped, and sewn to the sides of the head at a slight upward angle.
- R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)

Stuff lightly so the ossicones stand straight. FO, leaving long tails. Sew them to the top of the head between R4 and R8, about 8 stitches apart. Angle them slightly outward.
Neck
The neck is long and narrow like the image. Use golden yellow yarn and stuff very firmly so the head does not wobble.
- R1: 8 sc in MR. (8)
- R2: inc in each st around. (16)
- R3: (3 sc, inc) repeat 4 times. (20)
- R4 to R25: sc in each st around. (20)

Sew the succulent to a small dark brown soil disc made with 6 sc in MR, then 12 sc in R2. Place the soil and succulent into the terracotta pot.
Cheek Blush
The giraffe has soft peach blush on both sides of the muzzle. You can use a small amount of peach yarn or dry blush powder. If using yarn, embroider 3 short horizontal stitches on each cheek. If using powder, apply very lightly with a cotton swab.
Assembly Order
- Sew the neck to the top center of the body. Make several strong rounds of stitches because the head is large.
- Sew the head to the top of the neck. Angle the head slightly forward for the sweet seated look.
- Sew the muzzle to the lower front of the head, then add nostrils and blush.
- Sew the white eye panel in place if not already fully attached, then add the brown outline and center line.
- Sew ears to the sides of the head and ossicones to the top.
- Sew arms to the sides of the shirt area.
- Sew legs to the lower body so they hang forward naturally.
- Add the overalls bib, straps, buttons, carrot applique, and cuffs.
- Sew brown giraffe spots to the head, neck, and body.
- Add flower crown pieces and the ladybug near the top of the face.
- Attach the tail to the back of the body.
- Make the sandals and sew them securely to the feet.
- Make the tote bag, carrots, hat, and plant pots for display.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Before tying off any final sewing tails, check the giraffe from the front, side, and back. The head should sit centered on the long neck, the muzzle should be horizontal, and the eyes should look evenly placed.
Add the final embroidery slowly. Small details make this giraffe special: the nostrils, the vertical eye-panel line, the cheek blush, the carrot lines, the ladybug spots, and the small flower centers. Keep all knots hidden inside nearby crochet stitches.
If the giraffe leans forward, add extra stitches from the back of the neck into the lower back of the head. If it leans backward, add extra support stitches at the front of the neck under the chin.
Care Notes
- Spot clean gently with cool water and mild soap.
- Do not soak if you used safety eyes, buttons, or blush powder.
- Reshape the muzzle, ears, and flowers while damp.
- Let the giraffe air dry completely before storing.
- Keep small buttons and safety eyes away from children under 3 years old.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The head is firmly stuffed and securely sewn to the neck.
- The neck is packed tightly enough to hold the head upright.
- The ears are placed evenly on both sides of the head.
- The ossicones stand upright and are sewn firmly.
- The white eye panel is centered with a neat brown outline.
- The muzzle is rounded and attached smoothly.
- The green overalls, brown bib, straps, buttons, and carrot applique are visible.
- The sandals have open toes and small flower accents.
- The hat, tote, carrots, and plant pots are complete for the full gardener scene.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
To preserve the shape, avoid machine washing. Use a damp cloth to clean dusty areas and let the piece dry naturally. For the hat and plant pots, clean separately so the small accessories do not stretch or lose shape.
Store the giraffe upright or seated with support behind the neck. Keep it away from long direct sunlight to prevent the yellow, green, and brown yarn colors from fading. If the flowers flatten during storage, gently lift each petal with your fingers.
For long-term display, place the giraffe on a dry shelf with the tote, hat, and plant pots nearby. This keeps the full garden look from the image while protecting the small handmade details.
