Crochet Tutorial: Strawberry Treehouse Woodland Friends – Free Crochet Pattern.

This crochet scene creates a sweet woodland treehouse with a large red strawberry room, a green vine tree, leafy platforms, curling tendrils, mushrooms, strawberries, and many tiny forest friends. The finished display includes a tan garden path on a grass base, a strawberry house with a round doorway and window panes, a deer in a dress, a koala in lace, bunnies, kittens, tiny mushroom babies, and cute garden decorations.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Pattern Information

  • Skill level: Intermediate with beginner-friendly explanations.
  • Finished size: About 15 in wide, 13 in tall, and 8 in deep when made with sport weight yarn and a 2.25 mm hook.
  • Construction: Each piece is crocheted separately, stuffed firmly, shaped by sewing, then assembled into one display.
  • Crochet terms: US English.
  • Recommended hook: 2.25 mm for toys, 2.75 mm for the base if you want a softer garden mat.

The image shows tight, rounded amigurumi stitches with minimal gaps. Use a hook smaller than the yarn label suggests. Stuff all display pieces firmly enough to hold shape, but do not overstuff the tiny arms, ears, vines, and leaves.

Materials

  • Sport weight cotton or cotton-acrylic yarn in red, dark red, cream, beige, tan, light pink, pale peach, mint green, medium green, dark green, olive green, white, gray, light gray, brown, orange, yellow, sky blue, lavender, black, and dusty rose.
  • 2.25 mm crochet hook.
  • 2.75 mm crochet hook for the large grass base and tan path, optional.
  • Fiberfill stuffing.

  • Thin floral wire or craft wire for the tall tree trunk, branch, and curled vines.
  • Cardboard, plastic canvas, or felt for stabilizing the base and platforms.
  • Yarn needle, stitch markers, pins, scissors, and fabric glue, optional.
  • Small piece of white lace trim for the dresses, or crochet the lace edging included below.

  • MR: magic ring
  • ch: chain
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sc: single crochet
  • hdc: half double crochet
  • dc: double crochet
  • tr: treble crochet
  • inc: 2 sc in the same stitch

Gauge and Helpful Notes

Gauge: 7 sc and 8 rounds should measure about 1 in. Exact gauge is less important than tight, even stitches. If your fabric has holes, go down one hook size.

Work most amigurumi pieces in continuous rounds. Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round. Stuff gradually as you crochet, especially for the strawberry house, tree trunk, heads, and bodies.

The display is built like a small sculpture. The base keeps the scene flat, the wired trunk holds the upper platforms, and the strawberry house is sewn firmly to both the base and branch area. Pin every piece before sewing so the final scene stays balanced.

Finished Layout Guide

  • Left side: large red strawberry treehouse with a round doorway, green leafy top, a cream tiny bird on top, and curled green vine tendrils.
  • Center: tall green trunk with leafy ledges holding a deer, koala, pink baby, and mushroom baby.
  • Right side: red strawberry ledge with a cream bunny in blue pants.
  • Ground: tan oval path, pink mushroom, orange mushroom, red tomato-strawberry, green leaves, and several small woodland friends.

Grass Base

The base in the image is a rectangular patch of grass with a tan garden path placed on top. Make the base slightly firm so the tree and house stand upright.

Green Rectangle Base

  5. R34: Ch 1, sc around again. FO and weave in ends.

Cut plastic canvas or firm felt slightly smaller than the rectangle. Sew or glue it under the crochet base. To create the grassy edge seen in the image, attach short strands of medium and dark green yarn around the outside border.

Textured Grass Border

  1. Join medium green in any edge stitch.
  2. Work around the base: ch 4, sl st in next st, ch 3, sl st in next st, ch 5, sl st in next st. Repeat around.
  3. FO. Trim some loops unevenly for a natural grass look.

Flatten the front slightly and mark a round doorway centered on the front. The doorway should cover about 26 stitches wide and 21 rounds tall. Cut only after you secure the opening with a stitch line.

Securing the Door Opening

  1. Use red yarn and a yarn needle to sew a running stitch around the marked oval doorway.
  2. Carefully cut inside the stitched line, leaving about 1 stitch of fabric beyond the sewing.
  3. Fold the raw edge inward.
  4. Work red sc stitches around the doorway by inserting the hook through folded layers. Make 58 to 64 sc around the opening.

Facial Embroidery Guide

  • Eyes: Use black safety eyes or small black French knots. Add white highlights with one tiny stitch.
  • Noses: Use brown or black embroidery thread. Most noses are tiny vertical ovals or short satin stitches.
  • Mouths: Make a short straight stitch down from the nose, then one curved stitch for a smile.
  • Cheeks: Add pale pink stitches under the eyes. Keep them small for the delicate look shown in the image.
  • Whiskers: For cats and squirrels, add two short stitches on each side of the muzzle.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Check the display from the front before the last stitches are tied. The strawberry doorway should stay round, the trunk should stand straight, and every animal should face toward the center like a busy woodland gathering.

Add final seed stitches to the strawberries, white dots to the mushrooms, and dark green vein stitches to the leaves. Use tiny, neat embroidery so the details do not overpower the small figures.

For a cleaner finish, hide all yarn tails inside the stuffed pieces. If an upper platform tilts, add a hidden support stitch from the leaf edge back to the trunk.

Care Notes

  • Spot clean only with cool water and mild soap.
  • Do not machine wash because the trunk, wire, and platforms can bend.
  • Keep away from heavy moisture, direct sunlight, and rough handling.
  • This display is decorative and is not intended for children under 3 years because of small parts and wire support.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • All animals are sewn securely to leaves or the base.
  • The strawberry house opening is smooth and reinforced.
  • The trunk is firm and does not wobble.
  • The large red strawberry and mushrooms have their spots and leafy tops.
  • The koala, deer, bunny, mushroom babies, bird, and ground friends all have finished faces.
  • Loose yarn tails are woven in or hidden inside the work.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Dust the finished treehouse gently with a soft brush. For small stains, dab with a damp cloth instead of rubbing. Allow the piece to air dry completely before storing.

Store the display upright in a box with tissue paper around the tall trunk and strawberry house. Do not place heavy items on top, because the leaf platforms and curled vines may lose their shape.

If the vines or leaves flatten over time, reshape them gently with your fingers. A few hidden stitches can be added later if any platform becomes loose from display handling.
