This garden goose crochet pattern creates a tall, sweet amigurumi goose with a long white neck, oversized round eyes, an orange beak, a red head patch, and tiny flower decorations. The outfit includes a green and yellow striped sweater, blue overall shorts with buttons and flower embroidery, red sneakers, a brown chest backpack, a straw hat with a blue bow, a picnic basket with gingham cloth, and a sunflower accessory.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern is written in US crochet terms. The goose is worked mostly in continuous rounds with tight amigurumi tension. The clothing is partly crocheted directly onto the body and partly added as separate detail pieces, which helps the finished doll look layered like the photographed design.
The finished goose has a tall neck, a rounded body, short blue overall legs, dangling orange legs, red sneakers, and soft striped sleeves. The head is intentionally large and expressive, with two raised eye domes sewn onto the face instead of flat eyes.
- Skill level: Confident beginner to intermediate.
- Finished size: About 11 to 12 inches tall when made with DK or sport weight cotton yarn.
- Main method: Amigurumi in continuous rounds.
- Important texture: Firm stuffing, tight stitches, clean color changes, and neat sewing.
Materials
- DK or sport weight cotton yarn in white, red, orange, green, yellow, blue, tan, brown, cream, light blue, black, pink, and small amounts of flower colors.
- 2.25 mm or 2.5 mm crochet hook for the goose and clothing.
- 2.75 mm crochet hook for the hat brim and basket if you want a slightly softer accessory shape.
- 10 mm black safety eyes for the eye domes, or black yarn for embroidered eyes.
- Fiberfill stuffing.
- Yarn needle.
- Stitch markers.
- Small beige buttons, or crocheted buttons made from tan yarn.
- White yarn or embroidery floss for sneaker laces.
- Black embroidery thread for sneaker sole lines.
- Optional: fabric glue only for securing tiny knots, not for main assembly.
Abbreviations
- MR: magic ring
- ch: chain
- sl st: slip stitch
- sc: single crochet
- hdc: half double crochet
- dc: double crochet
- inc: 2 single crochet in the same stitch
- dec: invisible single crochet decrease
- BLO: back loop only
- FLO: front loop only
- sts: stitches
- Rnd: round
- Row: row
Gauge and Tension
Gauge is not critical, but the stitches must be tight enough so stuffing does not show through. For a neat doll similar to the image, crochet 8 single crochet stitches and 8 rounds to about 1 inch using your chosen yarn and hook.
If your stuffing shows between stitches, use a smaller hook. If your pieces feel stiff and difficult to shape, loosen your tension slightly. The goose should be firm enough to hold the long neck upright, but not so hard that the head cannot be shaped.
Important Construction Notes
- Work in continuous rounds unless the instruction says to turn or join.
- Use a stitch marker in the first stitch of every round.
- Stuff the neck very firmly so the large head stays lifted.
- Stuff the shoes and body firmly, but keep the arms and sleeves lightly stuffed.
- For the best photographed shape, sew the head to the neck at a slight forward angle.
- The eye domes should touch each other in the center front and sit high above the beak.
- The sweater stripes are worked directly into the body and sleeves.
- The bib, backpack, hat, basket, flowers, and sunflower are added after the goose body is finished.
Part 1: Red and White Sneakers
Make two sneakers. Each sneaker starts with a white oval sole, then changes to red for the upper. The front is shaped into a rounded toe, matching the playful red sneakers in the image.

Sneaker Details
- Use black embroidery thread to sew one curved line around the front edge where the white sole meets the red upper.
- Use white yarn to embroider two short horizontal lace bars across the red top of the shoe.
- Make a small bow on each shoe with white yarn. Tie securely and trim the ends evenly.
- Add a few white stitches at the toe front to create the rounded white sneaker tip visible in the image.
Part 2: Orange Goose Legs
The orange legs are narrow and straight, showing between the blue shorts and red sneakers. Make two legs. If you continued from the sneaker, begin with orange yarn directly at the shoe opening.
- Rnd 1: With orange yarn, sc around the sneaker opening. You have 15 sts.
- Rnd 2 to Rnd 12: Sc around. You have 15 sts each round.
- Stuff the leg firmly but do not stretch it.
- Fasten off the first leg. Make the second leg the same way, but do not fasten off if you are joining directly into the shorts.
Part 3: Blue Overall Shorts and Body Base
The blue overall shorts are crocheted around the top of the legs and joined at the center. They should look like roomy short overalls, with a small gap at the crotch and rounded lower edges.
Blue Shorts Around Each Leg
- Attach blue yarn to the top of one orange leg.
- Rnd 1: Repeat 3 times: sc in next 4 sts, inc. You have 18 sts.
- Rnd 2: Sc around. You have 18 sts.
- Rnd 3: Repeat 3 times: sc in next 5 sts, inc. You have 21 sts.
- Rnd 4 to Rnd 5: Sc around. You have 21 sts each round.
- Fasten off the first shorts leg. Make the second shorts leg the same way, but do not fasten off.
Join the Shorts
- With the second shorts leg still on your hook, ch 3.
- Join to the first shorts leg with a sc. This begins the hip round.
- Rnd 6: Sc around the first leg, sc in each of the 3 chains, sc around the second leg, then sc in the opposite side of the 3 chains. You have 48 sts.
- Rnd 7 to Rnd 10: Sc around. You have 48 sts each round.
- Rnd 11: Repeat 6 times: sc in next 6 sts, dec. You have 42 sts.
- Rnd 12 to Rnd 15: Sc around. You have 42 sts each round.
Lightly stuff the shorts area. The shape should be rounded but not stretched. The finished shorts should cover the upper legs and sit low enough that the orange legs are visible, just like the garden goose in the photo.
Part 4: Green and Yellow Striped Sweater Torso
The sweater begins at the top of the blue shorts. It is worked directly into the body, with green and yellow stripes. The stripes should be visible across the belly and shoulder area, while the blue bib will cover part of the center front later.
- Rnd 16: Change to green yarn. BLO, sc around. You have 42 sts.
- Rnd 17: With green yarn, repeat 6 times: sc in next 5 sts, dec. You have 36 sts.
- Rnd 18: Change to yellow yarn, sc around. You have 36 sts.
- Rnd 19: With yellow yarn, sc around. You have 36 sts.
- Rnd 20: Change to green yarn, repeat 6 times: sc in next 4 sts, dec. You have 30 sts.
- Rnd 21: With green yarn, sc around. You have 30 sts.
- Rnd 22: Change to yellow yarn, sc around. You have 30 sts.
- Rnd 23: With yellow yarn, sc around. You have 30 sts.
- Rnd 24: Change to green yarn, repeat 6 times: sc in next 3 sts, dec. You have 24 sts.
- Rnd 25: With green yarn, sc around. You have 24 sts.
- Rnd 26: Change to yellow yarn, sc around. You have 24 sts.
- Rnd 27: Change to green yarn, sc around. You have 24 sts.
- Rnd 28: BLO, sc around with green yarn to create a raised collar base. You have 24 sts.
Stuff the body firmly before closing the sweater section. The torso should taper from the blue shorts to the collar. This narrowing helps the long white neck stand in the correct tall goose shape.
Part 5: Long White Neck
The neck is a long white tube. It must be firm, straight, and slightly flexible. In the photo, the neck rises out of the green sweater collar and supports the large head at a slight forward tilt.
- With white yarn, make a MR.
- Rnd 1: 8 sc in MR. You have 8 sts.
- Rnd 2: Inc around. You have 16 sts.
- Rnd 3: Repeat 4 times: sc in next 3 sts, inc. You have 20 sts.
- Rnd 4 to Rnd 33: Sc around. You have 20 sts each round.
- Stuff very firmly as you go. Do not wait until the end, because the tube is narrow.
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Insert the lower end of the neck into the green collar opening. Sew around the collar edge using small stitches. For a natural pose, pull the front stitches slightly tighter so the neck leans forward very gently.
Part 6: White Goose Head
The head is a rounded oval, larger than the neck, with a soft front face and enough space for the raised eyes and orange beak. The red patch and flowers are sewn on later.
- With white yarn, make a MR.
- Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR. You have 6 sts.
- Rnd 2: Inc around. You have 12 sts.

Part 7: Raised Eye Domes
The two oversized white eye domes are one of the most important details. They create the cute, surprised garden goose expression. Make two domes and place the black safety eyes before sewing them to the face.
- With white yarn, make a MR.
- Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR. You have 6 sts.
- Rnd 2: Inc around. You have 12 sts.
- Rnd 3: Repeat 6 times: sc in next st, inc. You have 18 sts.
- Rnd 4: Repeat 6 times: sc in next 2 sts, inc. You have 24 sts.
- Rnd 5 to Rnd 7: Sc around. You have 24 sts each round.
- Insert one black safety eye between Rnd 3 and Rnd 4, slightly below center. Place the eye toward the outer side of the dome.
- Rnd 8: Repeat 6 times: sc in next 2 sts, dec. You have 18 sts.
- Rnd 9: Repeat 6 times: sc in next st, dec. You have 12 sts.
- Stuff firmly. Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Do not completely flatten the dome.
Sew both eye domes to the front of the head with the inner edges touching. Place them high on the face, with the lower edges just above the beak position. The eyes should look rounded and raised, not flat.
Part 8: Orange Beak
The beak is wide, rounded, and slightly flattened. It sits under the eye domes and points forward. Make the upper beak first, then add a smaller lower beak underneath for dimension.
Upper Beak
- With orange yarn, ch 7.

- Rnd 2: Sc around. You have 14 sts.
- Flatten and fasten off, leaving a tail.
Sew the upper beak centered beneath the two eye domes. Sew the lower beak just under the upper beak, using only a few stitches so it creates a soft lower lip. The beak should cover the lower center of the head and look cheerful.
Part 9: Red Head Patch
The red head patch sits on the top of the head and shows between the eye domes, then continues slightly toward the back. It gives the goose the colorful garden character shown in the image.
- With red yarn, ch 9.
- Rnd 1: Starting in the second ch from hook, 2 sc in first ch, sc in next 6 ch, 4 sc in last ch. Working on the opposite side, sc in next 6 ch, 2 sc in last ch. You have 20 sts.

- Rnd 3: Repeat 5 times: sc in next 3 sts, inc. You have 25 sts.
- Rnd 4: Sc around. You have 25 sts.
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Sew the patch to the top of the head. Place the narrow front end between the two eye domes and let the wider part curve over the crown. Keep your sewing stitches small and hidden in the red edge.
Part 10: Striped Sweater Sleeves and White Wing Tips
The arms are long striped sleeves with small white wing tips at the ends. The sleeves angle downward, and the right sleeve can be sewn close to the basket handle to look like the goose is carrying it.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Keep the finished goose away from direct sunlight for long periods, because bright red, blue, and green yarn can fade. Store it in a dry place with enough space around the neck and head so the shape is not bent.
If dust gathers on the doll, use a soft brush or lint roller with very gentle pressure. For small stains, dab the area instead of rubbing. Rubbing can lift fibers and make the stitches look fuzzy.
When storing the accessories, keep the hat brim flat and place the basket upright. If the sunflower petals curl, dampen your fingers slightly, shape the petals, and let them dry flat overnight.
