This cheerful knitted white garden dog sits in a blue-and-cream striped romper with little wooden buttons, embroidered flowers, a brown crossbody satchel, red summer sandals, and a colorful flower crown. The full scene also includes a yellow beret with a daisy, a tiny watering can, and a small potted flower, matching the sweet handmade garden style shown in the image.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern creates a seated plush-style knitted dog with a long soft muzzle, upright triangular ears, rounded white paws, a striped romper, red sandals, and miniature garden accessories. The finished toy is designed to look balanced when seated on a shelf, table, or display bench.
The dog is worked mainly in the round using small double-pointed needles or magic loop. The romper is partly knitted directly onto the body and partly seamed on top for a tailored handmade look. Small decorative items are knitted separately and sewn into place.
- Finished height: about 12 in / 30.5 cm from seated paws to ear tips.
- Seated body height: about 8.5 in / 21.5 cm without ears.
- Skill level: confident beginner to intermediate.
- Main techniques: knitting in the round, increases, decreases, simple color stripes, I-cord, mattress stitch, embroidery, and small shaping.
- Construction: body, head, legs, arms, ears, romper, sandals, bag, flower crown, beret, watering can, and potted flower are made separately, then assembled.
Materials
- Yarn A: warm white worsted or DK weight yarn for dog body, head, arms, legs, ears, and muzzle.
- Yarn B: soft sky blue DK yarn for the romper and sandal flower accents.
- Yarn C: cream DK yarn for romper stripes.
- Yarn D: bright red DK yarn for sandals and mushroom cap.
- Yarn E: medium brown DK yarn for satchel and crossbody strap.
- Yarn F: mustard yellow DK yarn for the beret.
- Yarn G: pale pink DK yarn for inner ears and small flowers.
- Yarn H: green DK or sport yarn for leaves and flower stems.
- Yarn I: black yarn or embroidery floss for nose, eyes, and smile.
- Yarn J: light beige yarn for watering can.
- Yarn K: terra-cotta orange yarn for the flower pot.
- Small amounts: red, lavender, yellow, blue, white, and rose yarn for flowers.
- Needles: US 3 / 3.25 mm double-pointed needles or long circular needle for magic loop.
- Smaller needles: US 2 / 2.75 mm needles for small flowers, bag strap, and firm details.
- Stuffing: polyester fiberfill.
- Buttons: four tiny tan or wooden buttons, about 6 mm wide.
- Other tools: tapestry needle, stitch markers, removable markers, black embroidery needle, pins, scissors, and row counter.
Gauge
Exact gauge is less important than a firm fabric. The toy should not show stuffing between stitches. For the sample size, use a gauge close to 6 stitches and 8 rounds per 1 in / 2.5 cm in stockinette stitch, worked in the round.
- If your fabric is loose, go down one needle size.
- If your pieces are too stiff to shape, go up one needle size.
- Keep the same gauge for the dog body, head, legs, arms, and ears.
- Use the smaller needle for flowers, straps, and tiny accessories so they hold their shape.

Color and Stripe Notes
The dog in the image wears a romper with narrow horizontal blue-and-cream stripes. The blue stripes are the dominant color, and the cream stripes are thin. The romper should look soft and slightly vintage, not sharply graphic.
- Romper stripe sequence: work 4 rounds blue, then 2 rounds cream.
- Repeat this sequence across the torso, sleeves, and shorts.
- Keep the bottom cuffs, sleeve cuffs, and collar in blue.
- Carry the unused yarn loosely inside the work for short stripes, twisting yarns every 4 to 5 stitches.
- For a clean front opening, knit the romper front bands separately in blue and sew them over the center front.

- Start with a horizontal satin stitch line across 5 knitted stitches.
- Work shorter satin stitches below, decreasing width from 5 sts to 4 sts, then 3 sts, then 2 sts, then 1 st.
- Repeat the satin stitches until the nose is padded and rounded.
- For the smile, use black embroidery floss. Bring the needle out 0.5 in below the nose.
- Make a shallow curved line to the right across 5 sts, then return to center and make a shallow curved line to the left across 5 sts.
- Keep the smile light and friendly, not too dark or heavy.

- Stuff lightly, thread yarn through remaining sts, and close.
Stem, Leaves, and Flower
- Knit a green 3-st I-cord for 2 in / 5 cm for the stem.
- Sew the lower end firmly into the pot.
- Make 2 leaves using the leaf instructions from the flower crown.
- Sew one leaf to each side of the stem.
- Make one pink flower using the small flower instructions, then add a yellow center.
- Sew the flower to the top of the stem.
Joining the Dog
Before sewing, pin every part in place and check the seated posture. The dog should sit upright with the long legs hanging down, the head slightly proud, and the ears framing the flower crown.
- Sew the head to the 24 neck stitches of the body. Use mattress stitch around the neck twice for strength.
- Angle the head very slightly upward so the nose points forward, not downward.
- Sew the legs to the front lower body, spacing them about 1 in / 2.5 cm apart.
- Attach each leg securely over a 1.25 in / 3 cm seam area so they hang naturally.
- Sew the arms to the sides of the upper body, just below the neckline.
- Angle the arms slightly downward so the white paws show below the blue sleeves.
- Place the romper over the body and adjust the stripes so they sit level across the front.
- Sew or tack the romper discreetly at the shoulders, underarms, center back, and lower sides.
- Slide the sandals onto the feet and stitch them in place around the soles.
- Add the satchel strap diagonally across the chest, then sew the bag at the hip.
- Position the flower crown across the forehead and sew under the flowers and leaves.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Check the face last. Add more black yarn to the nose if it looks too flat. Adjust the smile with tiny anchoring stitches so the curve is even. If the eyes are not level, add one small stitch above the lower eye to visually balance the expression.
- Brush the white yarn gently with your fingers to soften the surface.
- Make sure both ears stand at the same height.
- Secure every flower on the crown with at least two hidden stitches.
- Check that the buttons are sewn tightly and evenly down the romper front.
- Place the yellow beret, watering can, and potted flower beside the dog for the full garden display.
Care Notes
This knitted dog is best used as a decorative handmade toy. Because it includes small buttons and sewn accessories, it is not recommended for children under three years old. Keep it away from pets, moisture, and rough handling.
- Spot clean only with a cool damp cloth.
- Do not machine wash if the toy includes buttons, embroidery, or firm shaping.
- Let the toy air dry completely before storing.
- Do not wring or twist the stuffed pieces.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The head is firmly sewn to the neck and does not wobble.
- The nose is centered on the long muzzle.
- The eyes are small, black, and evenly placed.
- The ears are upright with pink inner panels visible.
- The romper stripes are horizontal and neat.
- The front buttons line up from collar to shorts.
- The floral embroidery appears on both sides of the romper front.
- The brown satchel crosses the body diagonally and rests at the hip.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Store the finished knitted dog in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Bright red, blue, and yellow yarns may fade if displayed in a sunny window for long periods. A shaded shelf, craft cabinet, or covered display box will keep the colors fresh.
To remove dust, use a soft clean makeup brush or a lint-free cloth. Work gently around the flower crown, buttons, and mushroom patch. Do not pull loose fibers from the surface; trim them carefully with small scissors.
If the toy becomes slightly flattened, reshape it by hand. Press the body, head, and muzzle gently back into position. Fluff the ears, straighten the legs, and adjust the satchel strap. Allow the toy to rest upright after reshaping.
For long-term storage, wrap the dog loosely in acid-free tissue paper or a clean cotton cloth. Keep the accessories beside the dog rather than pressed against the face. This helps protect the flower crown, embroidered details, and small garden props.
