Gauge and Texture Notes

For the neat, firm texture shown in the image, use a hook smaller than the yarn label recommends. The stitches should be tight enough that stuffing does not show. The base and cottage should feel firm, not floppy.

Most small amigurumi pieces are worked in continuous rounds. Do not join unless the instruction says to join. Use a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round.

Garden Base

The base is a rounded rectangle cushion in fresh green. It is thick, soft, and slightly raised, with rounded corners like the image. Work two panels first, then join them around a firm insert.

Before sewing, place every finished piece on the green base and compare the scene from the front. The cottage belongs toward the back left. The sorting desk sits behind the bunny on the right. The bicycle is placed on the left side, and the squirrel sits near the open box on the right.

  • Place the cottage first, about 1 in from the back edge and 1.5 in from the left edge.
  • Sew the red post box in front of the cottage, slightly left of the door.
  • Arrange stepping stones from the front center toward the door.
  • Place the bluebell arch at the front left, above the start of the stone path.
  • Place the bunny beside the door and desk, facing forward.
  • Place the bird near the lower right front with a letter beside it.
  • Place the squirrel on the right side near the open mail box.
  • Sew the flower border around the front and side edge of the base.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

  1. Sew the cottage firmly to the base using cream yarn and small invisible stitches around the bottom edge.
  2. Sew the roof onto the cottage, letting the scalloped edge overlap the cream wall evenly.
  3. Add the chimney behind the roof on the right side.
  4. Sew the door, sign, and window to the cottage front.
  5. Sew the bunny head to the body, then attach ears, arms, feet, and satchel.
  6. Attach the bunny to the grass with stitches through the feet and lower body.
  7. Sew the squirrel and bird in place using matching yarn.
  8. Add all envelopes, parcels, stones, and cards last so the scene feels naturally scattered.
  9. For the bunny face, embroider a small pink nose, a short vertical mouth line, and two tiny cheek stitches.
  10. For the squirrel, add a tiny nose and optional cheek dots.
  11. For the bird, add black embroidered eyes if safety eyes were not used.

Care Notes

This project is decorative and includes small parts, wire, and firm inserts. It is best used as display decor, not as a toy for babies or pets. Keep it on a shelf, desk, or windowsill away from heavy moisture.

  • Spot clean only with a damp cloth.
  • Do not machine wash because the base, wire arch, bicycle, and cardboard inserts may lose shape.
  • Let the piece air dry completely before storing.
  • Reshape flowers, roof scallops, ears, and arch gently with your fingers after cleaning.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • Base: rounded, firm, and evenly stuffed.

  • Door: includes the small Bunny Post sign and tan knob.
  • Garden: includes flower border, bluebell arch, stepping stones, envelopes, and parcels.
  • Characters: bunny, squirrel, and bird are firmly attached and facing forward.
  • Accessories: bicycle, mail basket, red post box, desk, open box, and tiny mail pieces are all included.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

To preserve the shape, keep the post office garden out of direct strong sunlight for long periods, especially if cotton yarn was used. Blue and green yarns may fade when displayed in a bright window every day.

Dust the piece with a soft brush. Work from the roof down to the base so dust does not collect in the flowers. Use a cotton swab for the tiny envelopes, bicycle spokes, door sign, and bluebell arch.

If a flower or small envelope becomes loose, thread a yarn needle with matching yarn and add two small stitches through the center of the piece. Avoid pulling too tightly, because the soft raised detail gives the garden its handmade charm.

For storage, place the crochet scene in a box slightly larger than the base. Add tissue paper around the roof, arch, chimney, and bicycle. Do not stack anything on top of the piece, because the roof scallops and wire arch can bend.

Your Bluebell Bunny Post Office Garden is now complete: a sweet miniature crochet world with a flower-roofed cottage, busy mail friends, tiny letters, garden blooms, and cozy handmade details from every angle.
