Pattern Overview

This pattern uses US crochet terminology and is written for an intermediate beginner who already understands working in continuous rounds, changing colors, stuffing firmly, and sewing small pieces together. The doll is built from separate crocheted parts so the head, body, dress, accessories, and garden props can be shaped clearly.

The finished doll sits about 13 inches tall from the bottom of the shoes to the top of the peacock crest when made with sport or light worsted yarn and a 2.5 mm hook. The garden accessories are smaller display pieces and can be sewn down or left loose for styling.

Materials

  • Sport weight cotton yarn or light worsted cotton yarn in bright peacock blue, turquoise, green, dark green, white, black, peach, pink, lavender, mint, yellow, pastel yellow, coral, light blue, brown, orange, cream, and small amounts of flower colors.
  • 2.5 mm crochet hook for the doll and accessories.
  • 2.0 mm crochet hook for tiny flowers, bee, purse strap, and eye highlights.
  • Polyester fiberfill stuffing.
  • Yarn needle for sewing.
  • Stitch markers.
  • Small scissors.
  • Optional: pipe cleaners or craft wire for the neck, arms, flower stem, and watering can handle.
  • Optional: 8 mm safety eye if you prefer, but the sample uses a crocheted eye.
  • Optional: white embroidery thread for sparkle dots on the peacock crest.

Abbreviations

  • MR = magic ring
  • ch = chain
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • tr = treble crochet
  • inc = 2 sc in the same stitch
  • dec = invisible single crochet decrease
  • BLO = back loop only
  • FLO = front loop only
  • st = stitch
  • R = round or row
  • FO = fasten off

Gauge and Finished Size

Gauge: 7 sc and 8 rounds equal about 1 inch with a 2.5 mm hook. Gauge is not critical, but tight stitches are important so the stuffing does not show through. If your stitches look loose, use a smaller hook.

Finished size: the seated doll measures about 13 inches tall including the crest. The head is about 4 inches wide, the dress is about 5 inches wide at the lower hem, the purse is about 2 inches tall, and the sun hat is about 4.5 inches across.

Important Construction Notes

  • Work most pieces in continuous rounds unless a joined round is stated.
  • Stuff the head firmly, the body medium-firm, and the arms lightly.
  • Use a stitch marker at the first stitch of every round.
  • For the doll in the image, the head tilts slightly forward and the long beak points to the left side when viewed from the front.
  • The dress is crocheted separately over the body so the skirt flares out like the picture.
  • Small decorations are sewn on after assembly so you can place them accurately.

Peacock Blue Head

The head is round and slightly oversized, with the beak extending from one side. Use bright peacock blue yarn. Stuff firmly as you work. The head should look like a rounded bird head, wider than the neck and body.

Fasten off and close the opening. Shape the head with your hands so it is rounded but slightly fuller toward the front where the eye will sit. The large eye should be placed on the front-right side of the head, not centered.

Long Peacock Beak

The beak in the image is a long, tapered blue snout extending from the left front side of the head. It is made in the same blue yarn so it blends smoothly with the head.

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. R2: sc around. (6)
  3. R3: sc 1, inc, repeat around. (9)
  4. R4-R5: sc around. (9)

  8. R10-R11: sc around. (15)
  9. R12: sc 4, inc, repeat around. (18)
  10. R13: sc around. (18)

Stuff the beak lightly so it remains firm but not round. Flatten the open edge slightly and sew it to the left front of the head between R13 and R18. Angle it downward a little to match the soft garden doll look.

Large Layered Eye

The doll has one large crocheted eye with a white outer ring, green iris, black pupil, and a tiny white shine. Make the layers separately and sew them together before attaching to the head.

White Eye Base

  1. R1: With white yarn, 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. R2: inc around. (12)
  3. R3: sc 1, inc, repeat around. (18)

Black Pupil

  1. R1: With black yarn, 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. R2: inc around. (12)
  3. R3: sc 1, inc, repeat around. (18)

Sew the black pupil to the green iris, then sew the iris to the white base. Add a tiny white embroidered dot on the upper right edge of the pupil. Sew the completed eye to the head between R11 and R22, slightly to the front-right side.

Blue Neck

The neck is slim and tall, made in the same blue yarn as the head. It supports the large head, so stuff it firmly and insert a small folded pipe cleaner if the doll is for display only.

  1. R1: 8 sc in MR. (8)
  2. R2: inc around. (16)
  3. R3: BLO sc around. (16)
  4. R4-R13: sc around. (16)
  5. R14: sc 3, inc, repeat around. (20)
  6. R15: sc around. (20)

Fasten off with a long tail. Sew the top of the neck under the head, centered slightly behind the large eye. The neck should be visible above the dress collar, like the image.

Peach Body

The body is mostly hidden under the rainbow dress, but it gives the doll a seated shape. Use peach yarn for the upper body and legs. The torso should be narrower than the skirt.

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. R2: inc around. (12)
  3. R3: sc 1, inc, repeat around. (18)
  4. R4: sc 2, inc, repeat around. (24)
  5. R5: sc 3, inc, repeat around. (30)
  6. R6-R10: sc around. (30)

  9. R17: sc 2, dec, repeat around. (18)
  10. R18-R20: sc around. (18)

Stuff the body medium-firm. Fasten off with a long tail. Sew the neck to the top opening of the body. The body should remain upright with the neck rising straight from the center.

Peach Arms

The arms are long, simple, and lightly stuffed. They hang down beside the dress, with rounded hands reaching near the skirt hem.

  1. R1: With peach yarn, 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. R2: inc around. (12)
  3. R3-R5: sc around. (12)
  4. R6: sc 4, dec, repeat twice. (10)
  5. R7-R24: sc around. (10)
  6. R25: flatten the opening and crochet 5 sc through both layers.

Make two arms. Stuff the hands and lower arms lightly. Leave the upper arm mostly flat for clean sewing. Sew each arm to the upper body at the shoulder line, just under the dress collar.

Peach Legs

The doll sits on a table in the image, so the legs are long and hang forward from under the skirt. Make two matching legs in peach yarn.

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. R2: inc around. (12)
  3. R3: sc 3, inc, repeat around. (15)
  4. R4-R24: sc around. (15)
  5. R25: sc 3, dec, repeat around. (12)
  6. R26-R28: sc around. (12)

Stuff the legs lightly but firmly enough to hold shape. Flatten the top of each leg and sew them to the lower front of the body, about 5 stitches apart. Angle them forward so they can dangle naturally.

Pastel Rainbow Dress

The dress is the most colorful part of the doll. It has a fitted bodice, soft rainbow stripes, a full skirt, a pink waistband, and embroidered flower details along the lower hem. Work the dress from the top down.

Dress Bodice

  1. R1: With mint yarn, ch 31, join with sl st to form a ring, making sure the chain is not twisted. Sc around. (30)
  2. R2: sc around. (30)
  3. R3: Change to pastel yellow, sc around. (30)
  4. R4: Change to light pink, sc around. (30)

  8. R8: Change to light blue, sc around. (36)
  9. R9: Change to pink, sc around. (36)

Try the bodice over the body before continuing. It should slide over the torso and sit below the blue neck. If it is tight, add one extra increase round before starting the skirt.

Flared Skirt

  2. R11: sc around. (48)

  14. R23: With blue, sc around. (84)
  15. R24: With lavender, sl st around loosely. (84)

Fasten off and weave in all ends. The skirt should flare outward and cover the top of the legs. Sew the bodice lightly to the body at the shoulder and side seams so it does not slide around.

Dress Collar and Waistband

  • Collar: Attach light blue yarn at the top edge of the bodice. Ch 1, sc around the neckline, join with sl st, and fasten off.
  • Waistband: Attach pink yarn around R9 of the dress. Work one round of surface sl st around the waist. Fasten off and hide the ends inside the dress.

Dress Floral Embroidery

The lower skirt has small flowers and green leaves. Use a yarn needle and short embroidery stitches. Keep the flowers low on the skirt so they look scattered along the garden border.

  • Make 3 small pink flowers with five lazy daisy stitches each across the coral and lavender stripes.
  • Make 2 white daisies with yellow centers across the blue and lavender lower stripe.
  • Add short green straight stitches between flowers to look like leaves and grass.
  • Place the flowers mostly on the front half of the skirt, leaving the back simpler.

Tiny Bee Appliqué on Bodice

The bee sits on the front of the bodice, slightly to one side. Use yellow, black, and light blue yarn or embroidery thread.

  1. With yellow yarn, 6 sc in MR, join and fasten off. This forms the bee body.

  • Add 8 to 12 small dots across the peacock crest feathers.

  4. Sew the arms to the shoulders under the dress collar. Let them hang straight down beside the skirt.
  5. Sew the legs to the lower front of the body. Pull the skirt over the tops of the legs.
  6. Place the dress over the body and secure it at the neckline, waist, and back with small hidden stitches.
  7. Sew the sandals onto the feet. Add the tiny white flowers to the sandal fronts.
  8. Place the pink purse across the body. Sew the strap at the shoulder and sew the purse to the hip so it stays in position.

  10. Sew the small back peacock feathers to the back-right side of the dress.
  11. Add the bee appliqué to the front bodice and embroider the flower garden details around the lower skirt.

After sewing, gently pinch and shape the beak, skirt, hat brim, and crest feathers with your fingers. The doll should look bright, garden-themed, and playful, with the accessories arranged around her like a small summer picnic craft scene.

Placement Guide for the Image Look

  • Head: oversized, round, bright blue, and tilted slightly forward.
  • Eye: one large layered eye on the front-right side.
  • Beak: long, blue, tapered, and extending to the left.
  • Crest: placed on the upper right side of the head, behind the yellow flower.
  • Dress: pastel rainbow stripes with a flared skirt and garden embroidery along the bottom.
  • Purse: pink, crossbody, resting on the front-right hip.
  • Shoes: blue sandals with white flower details.
  • Accessories: yellow sun hat, cream watering can, potted sunflower, and tiny blue decorative ball.

Care Notes

Spot clean the doll with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not soak if you used wire, pipe cleaners, safety eyes, or glued details. Let the doll air dry completely before storing. Keep the crest and hat brim flat while drying so they hold their shape.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The head is firmly stuffed and securely attached to the neck.
  • The eye is large, round, and sewn flat against the head.
  • The beak is centered on the side-front and angles slightly downward.
  • The dress has visible pastel stripes and a flared lower skirt.
  • The purse strap crosses the body diagonally.
  • The sandals have blue straps and small white flowers.
  • The peacock crest includes blue feathers, green inner lines, white dots, leaves, and a yellow flower.
  • The garden props are finished and arranged beside the doll.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Store the doll away from direct sunlight to help protect the blue, pink, and yellow yarn colors. If the doll is displayed on a shelf, dust it gently with a soft brush. Keep heavy objects away from the crest, hat brim, purse strap, and sunflower stem.

For long-term storage, wrap the doll loosely in acid-free tissue or a clean cotton cloth. Do not compress the head or skirt. Place the small accessories in a labeled pouch so the watering can, hat, flower pot, and tiny blue ball stay together with the doll.
