Pattern Notes
This pattern uses US crochet terms. The design is worked in separate pieces and sewn together on a round snowy display base. Most pieces are crocheted tightly in continuous rounds unless the instructions say to join. Use a stitch marker at the first stitch of every round.
The image shows a dense amigurumi style with firm stuffing, compact stitches, soft rounded corners, and small decorative appliques. For best results, keep your tension even and stuff each piece gradually. The cottage should look rectangular, not round, so shaping and blocking are important.
- Skill level: Intermediate, with many small beginner-friendly parts.
- Finished size: About 14 in / 35.5 cm wide across the base when made with DK cotton yarn and a 2.5 mm hook.
- Gauge: 6 sc and 6 rows = 1 in / 2.5 cm in tight amigurumi crochet.
- Hook: 2.5 mm for most pieces; 2.25 mm for tiny decorations if needed.
- Construction: Round base first, then cottage, roof, cottage details, figures, garden accessories, and final assembly.

Main Cocoa Cottage
The cottage is a rectangular cream house with beige walls, a thick snowy roof, a red front door, two yellow windows, and a brown chimney with curling smoke. The house is made as a firm box so it sits upright on the base.

- Sew the second side panel to the other front edge.
- Sew the back panel to both side panels.
- Insert floor support, then sew the floor to the lower edges.

Make 8 to 12 snowballs. Sew them in small clusters around the cottage base, near the windows, beside the bench, and near the cocoa stand.
Placement Guide
Before sewing permanently, place every piece on the base and compare the scene from the front. The cottage should sit at the back center. The cocoa stand, tree, and candy cane cup should be on the left. The bench, bunny, sled, robin, and bear should be on the right.
- Back center: Cottage with roof, chimney, smoke, door, windows, and doorstep.
- Left back: Cocoa stand with sign, mugs, candy canes, and evergreen tree.
- Left center: Wrapped gifts and snowman.
- Front center: Gingerbread cookies and large holly clusters.
- Front left: Light garland and small white bird.
- Right center: Bench, red sled, bunny, robin post, and polar bear.
- Front to door: Curved white path leading to the red door.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
- Sew the cottage to the back center of the base with cream or beige yarn. Stitch through the cottage floor and base several times so the house does not wobble.
- Sew the curved path from the front center to the gray doorstep. Keep the path flat and slightly raised.
- Attach the cocoa stand on the left side. Sew through each leg and the lower back of the counter.
- Sew the evergreen tree behind the stand. Add the gold star last so it stays upright.
- Place gifts beside the tree and near the snowman. Sew them down with matching yarn.
- Sew the snowman near the front-left side of the cottage. Angle the face toward the viewer.
- Sew the bunny to the right of the door. Keep the ears upright by adding a few hidden stitches behind them.
- Sew the bench and sled on the right side of the path. Angle the sled slightly toward the front.
- Sew the polar bear at the lower-right side of the base. Let the scarf ends hang naturally.
- Sew the robin post behind or beside the bench. The robin should sit high enough to be visible.
- Sew holly clusters along the front edge and right side. Add berries after the leaves are secure.
- Sew gingerbread cookies in a loose group near the front center. Keep them flat like decorated cookies on snow.
- Tack the light garland in a relaxed curve. Add bulbs after the chain is secured.
- Add the small white bird near the front-left area.
- Finish by adding snowballs wherever the scene needs more snowy texture.
For faces, use black embroidery thread and keep each stitch small. The bunny and bear need gentle eyes, the snowman needs a tiny carrot nose, and the robin needs a neat beak. Avoid oversized facial details because the scene is miniature and delicate.
Care Notes
This crochet cottage garden is best used as a decorative display, not a toy for small children. Many parts are tiny and sewn on separately. If the display will be handled often, reinforce each accessory with extra stitches through the base.
- Keep away from open flames, candles, and high heat.
- Do not machine wash because the cottage contains support pieces.
- Use a lint roller or soft brush to remove dust.
- Store flat in a box when the holiday season ends.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The snowy base lies flat and the green border frames the whole scene.
- The cottage is centered at the back and does not lean.
- The roof overhangs evenly with a visible wavy snow edge.
- The chimney smoke curls upward and slightly to the right.
- The red door has a wreath, bow, knob, and gray step.
- Both yellow windows have white pane lines and snowy sills.
- The cocoa sign clearly reads COCOA.
- The tree, gifts, snowman, bunny, bear, bench, sled, robin, holly, cookies, bird, candy canes, mugs, and lights are all attached securely.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
To clean the display, gently tap loose dust away first. Then use a soft dry paintbrush around the roof, cocoa stand, and tiny figures. For stubborn dust, lightly dampen a cloth with cool water and touch only the affected area.
Do not soak the piece. The cottage uses firm inserts, and soaking may bend the roof, walls, sign, or bench. Let any damp area air dry completely before storing.
For storage, place tissue paper around the chimney smoke, tree, bunny ears, signboard, and robin post. Store the display in a shallow box so the base remains flat and the tall pieces are not crushed.
When displaying again, reshape the smoke curl, smooth the green border, and gently lift the tree branches and holly leaves with your fingers. This will restore the cozy Christmas cocoa cottage garden look.
