Pattern Overview

This pattern is written in US crochet terms. The puppy is worked mostly in continuous spiral rounds, then the clothing and accessories are added as separate pieces. Use a stitch marker at the first stitch of each round so the shaping stays even.

The sample is designed to sit on a shelf or table with long dangling legs. The head is slightly oversized, the muzzle is rounded and prominent, the ears hang down with loop texture, and the overalls fit snugly around the round body.

Finished Size

  • Finished seated height: about 12 inches from head top to feet.
  • Total length including dangling legs: about 15 inches.
  • Head width: about 4.5 inches.
  • Body height before legs: about 5.5 inches.
  • Measurements vary depending on yarn, hook size, tension, and stuffing.

Recommended Materials

  • Worsted weight cotton or cotton-acrylic yarn in cream, medium brown, denim blue, light blue, tan, black, gray, yellow, pink, red, purple, green, and small scraps of flower colors.
  • 2.75 mm crochet hook for the doll and clothing.
  • 2.25 mm crochet hook for flowers, ladybugs, buttons, and small details.
  • Safety eyes, 10 mm, or black yarn for embroidered eyes.
  • Fiberfill stuffing.
  • Yarn needle.
  • Stitch markers.
  • Small amount of black felt is optional for the nose, but crocheted nose instructions are included.
  • Blunt sewing needle and strong matching thread for attaching buttons and small appliqués.

  • R or Rnd: round
  • FO: fasten off

Gauge and Stuffing Notes

Exact gauge is not critical, but tight stitches are important so stuffing does not show. With worsted weight yarn and a 2.75 mm hook, 6 sc should measure about 1 inch. Use a smaller hook if your stitches look loose.

Stuff the head firmly, especially around the muzzle area, so the puppy keeps the rounded facial shape shown in the image. Stuff the body firmly at the bottom and softer near the shoulders so the overalls can sit smoothly.

Brown Head Cap Patch

The brown patch covers the top and back of the head, giving the puppy the same warm brown garden-dog look from the photo. Work this piece flat, then sew it over the head like a soft cap.

  2. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. (16)
  3. Row 2: ch 1, turn, inc, sc 14, inc. (18)

  10. Row 13: ch 1, turn, dec, sc 14, dec. (16)
  11. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Pin the patch over the upper head. The front edge should sit above the eyes, slightly curved, with cream showing around the eyes and muzzle. Sew around the edge with small invisible stitches.

Large Cream Muzzle

The muzzle is one of the most important features. It is oval, raised, and larger than a normal small amigurumi snout. Shape it with firm stuffing so it projects forward clearly.

  1. With cream yarn, ch 7.
  2. R1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 4, 3 sc in last ch. Working on the other side of the chain, sc 4, inc in last st. (14)
  3. R2: inc, sc 4, inc in next 3 sts, sc 4, inc in next 2 sts. (20)
  4. R3: sc 1, inc, sc 4, repeat sc 1, inc 3 times, sc 4, repeat sc 1, inc 2 times. (26)
  5. R4: sc 2, inc, sc 4, repeat sc 2, inc 3 times, sc 4, repeat sc 2, inc 2 times. (32)
  6. R5-R8: sc around. (32)
  7. R9: sc 6, dec, repeat around. (28)
  8. R10: sc 5, dec, repeat around. (24)
  9. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Stuff the muzzle firmly but do not overfill the edge. Sew it centered on the lower front of the head, starting just below the eyes and ending near the lower face. The wide part should sit horizontally.

Black Oval Nose

  1. With black yarn and a 2.25 mm hook, ch 5.
  2. R1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 2, 3 sc in last ch. On the other side, sc 2, inc in last st. (10)
  3. R2: inc, sc 2, inc in next 3 sts, sc 2, inc in next 2 sts. (16)
  4. R3: sc around. (16)
  5. FO, leaving a tail.

Lightly stuff the nose or leave it flat if you prefer a softer look. Sew it to the front center of the muzzle, about one round above the lower edge. Embroider a tiny vertical line below the nose if desired.

White Eye Circles

The image shows bright white eye circles around the black eyes. Make two small white discs and place them behind or around the safety eyes. If your safety eyes are already attached, sew the discs around them carefully.

  1. With white or bright cream yarn, make 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. R2: inc around. (12)
  3. Sl st to finish and FO with a sewing tail.
  4. Make 2 circles.

Sew each circle around one eye, keeping the discs touching or nearly touching in the center. Add one tiny black embroidery stitch above each eye for a soft curious expression.

Floppy Textured Ears

The ears are long, brown, and fuzzy-looking. To create the texture without special yarn, use loop stitches on the outer side. If loop stitch is difficult, work regular sc and brush the ears gently after finishing.

  1. With medium brown yarn, ch 8.
  2. R1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 5, 3 sc in last ch. Work on the other side, sc 5, inc. (16)
  3. R2: inc, sc 5, inc in next 3 sts, sc 5, inc in next 2 sts. (22)
  4. R3: sc 1, inc, sc 6, repeat sc 1, inc 3 times, sc 6, repeat sc 1, inc 2 times. (28)
  5. R4-R15: sc around. (28)
  6. R16: sc 5, dec, repeat around. (24)
  7. R17-R19: sc around. (24)
  8. R20: sc 4, dec, repeat around. (20)
  9. R21-R22: sc around. (20)
  10. Flatten the ear, sc through both layers across the top. (10)
  11. FO, leaving a long sewing tail.
  12. Make 2 ears.

For the shaggy outer edge, join brown yarn to the outside of one ear. Work surface slip stitches from top to bottom, making a loop stitch every other stitch. Repeat in 3 vertical lines on each ear. Trim loops lightly so they look soft but uneven.

Sew the ears to the sides of the head at R8-R10, slightly behind the eyes. Angle the top forward so the ears hang beside the face, matching the photo’s relaxed puppy expression.

Body, Neck, Arms, and Legs

Neck

  1. With cream yarn, make 18 sc around a magic ring opening or ch 18 and join carefully. (18)
  2. R1-R5: sc around. (18)
  3. Stuff firmly.
  4. FO, leaving a tail for sewing.

📌Thank you for reading the article

Sew the neck to the lower center of the head. The neck should be short and mostly hidden by the overalls and body, but it gives the doll stability.

Body Base

The body is round and seated, with brown sides partly visible under the blue overalls. Begin with cream at the upper chest, then use brown for the side/back underlayer. The blue overalls are added later.

  1. With cream yarn, 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. R2: inc around. (12)
  3. R3: sc 1, inc, repeat around. (18)
  4. R4: sc 2, inc, repeat around. (24)

  10. Change to medium brown.
  11. R15-R18: sc around. (48)
  12. R19: sc 6, dec, repeat around. (42)
  13. R20: sc around. (42)
  14. R21: sc 5, dec, repeat around. (36)
  15. R22: sc around. (36)
  16. R23: sc 4, dec, repeat around. (30)
  17. R24: sc 3, dec, repeat around. (24)
  18. Stuff the body firmly, keeping the bottom rounded.
  19. R25: sc 2, dec, repeat around. (18)
  20. FO, leaving a long tail.

Sew the body to the neck securely. The body should sit directly below the head with the puppy facing forward. Add extra stitches at the front and back so the head does not wobble.

Arms

The arms are long and hang downward. Each arm has a cream paw, cream lower section, and brown upper section. The hands are rounded and slightly wider than the wrists.

Make 2 Arms

  1. With cream yarn, 6 sc in MR. (6)

  6. R8-R13: sc around. (12)
  7. Change to medium brown.
  8. R14-R23: sc around. (12)
  9. Stuff the paw firmly and the arm lightly.
  10. Flatten the top and sc through both layers across. (6)
  11. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Embroider three short cream lines on each paw to suggest soft fingers. Sew the arms to the upper sides of the body, just below the head, so they rest along the sides of the overalls.

Legs

The legs are long and narrow, designed to dangle from a table edge. One leg is brown with a cream lower section, and the other leg is mostly cream with a brown patch near the lower side, matching the playful mismatched look.

Left Leg

  1. With cream yarn, 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. R2: inc around. (12)
  3. R3: sc 1, inc, repeat around. (18)

  9. Stuff lightly, keeping the leg flexible.
  10. Flatten top and sc through both layers. (6)
  11. FO, leaving a tail.

Right Leg

  1. With cream yarn, repeat R1-R22 as for the left leg. (12)

  3. Stuff lightly.
  4. Flatten top and sc through both layers. (6)
  5. FO, leaving a tail.

Sew both legs to the lower front of the body, about 5 stitches apart. The legs should hang straight down from under the overalls. Make sure both feet point forward before securing firmly.

Toe Bumps

Make 6 small cream toe bumps, 3 for each foot. These create the open-toe sandal look shown in the image.

  1. With cream yarn, 5 sc in MR. (5)
  2. R2: sc around. (5)
  3. FO, leaving a sewing tail.
  4. Make 6 pieces.

Sew three toe bumps to the front of each foot. Place the center toe slightly forward and the side toes angled outward. These will show above the sandal soles.

The tail is small and partly hidden behind the body. It can be made cream or brown. In the photo, only a small light tail is visible near the side.

  1. With cream yarn, 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. R2: sc 1, inc, repeat around. (9)
  3. R3-R8: sc around. (9)
  4. Stuff very lightly.
  5. Flatten the opening and sc through both layers. (4)
  6. FO, leaving a sewing tail.

Sew the tail to the back lower body before fully securing the overalls in place. Angle it slightly outward so it peeks from one side.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

  1. Sew the head to the neck and body with strong stitches. Pass the yarn through the neck, head base, and body several times.
  2. Attach the muzzle centered under the eyes. The top of the muzzle should nearly touch the lower edge of the eye circles.
  3. Sew the nose onto the center of the muzzle. Keep the nose oval and slightly raised.
  4. Attach both ears to the sides of the head. The top of each ear should sit slightly above eye level and hang down beside the face.
  5. Dress the puppy in the blue overalls. Sew or tack the waistband to the body in a few hidden places so it does not slide.
  6. Sew the bib and straps securely. Add the yellow and pink buttons at the front.
  7. Attach the arms along the sides. The paws should rest near the lower body, close to the top of the legs.
  8. Sew the legs under the front of the body. Check that the puppy sits evenly before fastening the yarn ends.
  9. Attach toe bumps, sandal soles, blue straps, and ladybugs.
  10. Sew the flower cluster to the lower side of the overalls and the colorful flower clip to the head.
  11. Add the crossbody bag diagonally across the chest. Tack the strap lightly to the shoulder and side.
  12. Place the straw hat and watering can beside the puppy, or sew them lightly to the hands if you want a fixed display piece.

For the final expression, embroider tiny black eyebrows or short upper eye stitches above the eyes. Keep them soft and slightly curved so the puppy looks gentle and curious, not angry. A few tiny cream stitches around the muzzle can smooth the joining line.

Care Notes

  • Spot clean with cool water and mild soap.
  • Do not soak the doll if it contains safety eyes, glued parts, or firm shaping inside the accessories.
  • Gently press with a towel to remove moisture.
  • Air dry flat in a shaded place.
  • Avoid direct sunlight for long periods because bright flower colors may fade.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The head is firmly attached and does not wobble.
  • The muzzle is centered and rounded.
  • Both ears hang at the same height.
  • The overalls sit smoothly around the body.
  • The straps are secure and the buttons are even.
  • The legs dangle evenly from the seated body.
  • The sandals show the toe bumps clearly.
  • The flower patch, bag, hat, and watering can are attached or displayed neatly.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Keep the puppy doll in a dry place when not displayed. If dust collects on the ears, overalls, or flowers, use a soft brush and stroke gently in the direction of the stitches. Avoid pulling the loop texture on the ears.

For storage, wrap the doll loosely in acid-free tissue or a clean cotton cloth. Do not compress the muzzle, ears, bag, hat, or watering can under heavy objects. Reshape the accessories by hand after storage.

If the doll is made for a child, replace safety eyes with embroidered eyes and sew every small piece very securely. The tiny flowers, buttons, ladybugs, and accessories are decorative details and should be checked often for loose stitches.
