This Owl Moon Lantern Treehouse is a detailed crochet diorama with a large brown tree trunk house, layered dark green leaf roof, glowing moon and star lanterns, round windows, a cream arched door, tiny owls, a reading owl in the upper window, a hammock, books, stones, mushrooms, ferns, blue flowers, a signpost, and a warm hand lantern on a round grassy base.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Finished Size
- Finished treehouse height: about 13 in / 33 cm from grass base to top leaf dome.
- Round grass base: about 14 in / 35.5 cm across.
- Main trunk: about 4.25 in / 10.8 cm wide and 8.5 in / 21.5 cm tall before roof.
- Small owls: about 1.75–2.25 in / 4.5–5.7 cm tall.
- Skill level: confident beginner to intermediate, because this project uses many small pieces and careful sewing.
Materials
- Worsted weight yarn: dark forest green, medium green, brown, dark brown, cream, oatmeal, tan, gray, white, yellow, gold, black, navy, pale blue, lavender, red, pink, and small amounts of purple.

Gauge and Construction Notes
Gauge is not critical, but the stitches should be tight enough so stuffing does not show. For the trunk, owls, stones, mushrooms, and lanterns, use firm amigurumi tension. For the grassy base and leaves, use a slightly relaxed tension so the pieces sit flat and curve naturally.
The project is made as separate crochet pieces sewn together. The trunk is a tall stuffed cylinder with gentle root flares at the bottom. The roof is a shallow dome covered with many individual oval leaves. The moon and star lanterns hang under the leaf edge on long cream chains.
Round Grass Base
Use medium green yarn and the 3.5 mm hook. Work in joined rounds if you want a perfect flat circle, or continuous rounds if you prefer no seam. The sample base is a thick, round lawn mat with a raised border.

Raised Grass Border
Attach medium green yarn to any front loop from Rnd 24. Work (sl st, ch 1) in each front loop around. Join and FO. This creates the soft raised rim visible around the base.
For a firm display base, cut a plastic canvas circle slightly smaller than the grass circle. Place it under the crochet base before sewing the tree and decorations. Do not glue the crochet pieces until final placement is confirmed with pins.
Main Tree Trunk House
Use brown yarn and the 2.75 mm hook. Stuff firmly as you go. The trunk is a straight cylinder with a slight taper near the top and root flares at the bottom. Work in continuous rounds.

Optional Warm Light Effect
To imitate the glowing windows and lanterns in the image, use warm yellow yarn for window centers. If adding LED fairy lights, keep the battery pack outside the stuffed trunk and never sew through the wire. This project is best as display décor when lights are included.
Assembly Order
- Sew the trunk to the center of the grass base. Use many stitches through Rnd 8 of the trunk and the base so the tree stands firmly.
- Sew the five roots around the bottom of the trunk. Curve them outward onto the grass.
- Place the cream door on the lower front center and sew all around the edge.
- Sew the two round windows to the left and right of the door, slightly higher than the door knob.
- Sew the upper dark window patch about halfway between the door and the roof line.
- Sew the large reading owl into the upper window. Add cream side panels behind the owl.
- Sew the roof dome to the top of the trunk. The roof should overhang evenly on all sides.
- Sew the leaves onto the roof in overlapping layers, starting from the bottom edge.
- Attach moon and star lantern cords under the leaf roof. Vary the lengths for a natural hanging look.
- Sew the left and right branches to the trunk. Add leaves and books to the right branch.
- Arrange and sew the stone path from the door toward the front right side.
- Sew the small owls near the door and path. Place the lantern beside or in front of the standing owl.
- Add hammock, post, basket, yarn balls, books, mushrooms, ferns, flowers, rug, cup, and signpost.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Use pins before sewing each small decoration. The treehouse should feel balanced from the front view, with the door centered, the reading owl directly above it, and the largest moon lantern hanging from the roof center.
- Embroider owl pupils with black thread if you are not using safety eyes.
- Add tiny white highlight stitches to the pupils for a bright expression.
- Keep the small owls close to the door so they look like a family gathering.
- Sew the large owl’s book only at the lower corners so it opens slightly.
- Add short black stitches on the sign and books for miniature writing lines.
Care Notes
Spot clean only with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not soak the treehouse, because the trunk, roof, and base contain stuffing and many sewn details. Let the piece air dry fully before displaying again.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The trunk stands straight and is firmly attached to the grass base.
- The roof overhangs evenly and the leaves overlap in visible layers.
- The front door, windows, reading owl, and lanterns are centered from the front view.
- The path curves naturally toward the sign side.
- All small pieces are sewn securely, especially mushrooms, flowers, stones, and hanging cords.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Keep the finished treehouse away from direct sunlight for long periods, because dark green and brown yarns can fade. Store it upright in a dust-free box when not displayed. If the leaves flatten, gently lift them with your fingers and reshape the roof by hand.
If the piece becomes dusty, use a soft makeup brush or a cool hair dryer on the lowest setting. Avoid heat, bleach, machine washing, and heavy pressing. For long-term display, place the treehouse on a clean shelf where the hanging moons and stars can move freely without catching.
