This cozy crochet campsite scene features a round green forest base with a cream canvas tent, a brown story cottage, glowing-look lanterns, tiny fireflies, a campfire circle, handmade stools, a “Story Night” sign, baskets, leaves, mushrooms, trees, and several woodland friends. You will make a small bear cub reading a book, a fox roasting a marshmallow, a hedgehog holding a mug, and an owl sitting on the mossy roof.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Finished Size
- Round campsite base: about 15 in / 38 cm across.
- Cottage: about 5 in / 13 cm wide, 5.5 in / 14 cm tall.
- Tent: about 5.5 in / 14 cm wide, 4.5 in / 11.5 cm tall.
- Bear cub: about 2.5 in / 6.5 cm tall when seated.
- Fox: about 3 in / 7.5 cm tall when seated.
- Owl: about 2 in / 5 cm tall.
- Hedgehog: about 2.5 in / 6.5 cm tall.
Skill Level
Advanced beginner to intermediate. The stitches are simple, but this design has many small pieces. Work slowly, count carefully, and pin all pieces in place before sewing.
Materials
- Worsted weight cotton or cotton-acrylic yarn in grass green, dark green, moss green, cream, warm beige, tan, brown, dark brown, rust orange, white, gray, yellow, red, black, blue, and pale gold.
- 2.5 mm crochet hook for amigurumi pieces.
- 3.5 mm crochet hook for the round base, tent panels, roof panels, and blanket pieces.
- Fiberfill stuffing.
- Yarn needle.
- Stitch markers.
- Small black safety eyes, 4 mm to 6 mm, or black embroidery thread.
- Thin floral wire for lantern string and firefly trails, optional.
- Cardboard or plastic canvas for the cottage walls, roof, tent panels, sign, and base support.
- Battery tea light or yellow felt behind the cottage windows, optional. Do not place heat-producing lights inside crochet.
- Fabric glue, optional for tiny details.
US Crochet Abbreviations
- ch = chain
- sl st = slip stitch
- sc = single crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- dc = double crochet
- inc = 2 sc in one stitch
- dec = invisible single crochet decrease
- BLO = back loop only
- FLO = front loop only
- MR = magic ring
- FO = fasten off
- st / sts = stitch / stitches
- R = round or row
Gauge and Texture Notes
For the animals and tiny accessories, keep the stitches tight so stuffing does not show. With a 2.5 mm hook, 6 sc across should measure about 1 in / 2.5 cm. The round base and larger flat panels may be worked slightly looser with a 3.5 mm hook.
To match the image, use a visible crochet texture instead of hiding every ridge. The base should look thick and plush, the tent should show neat horizontal ribbing, the roof should show pale gray rows, and the cottage walls should look like warm brown wooden logs.
Important Construction Notes
- Most amigurumi parts are worked in continuous rounds unless stated otherwise.
- Use a stitch marker at the first stitch of every round.
- Stuff small pieces firmly, but do not overstuff arms, ears, tails, or tiny mugs.
- Use cardboard or plastic canvas inside the cottage and tent so they stand like the image.
- Sew all objects onto the base after every piece is finished and blocked.
- The lanterns and fireflies are decorative. Keep wire ends tucked safely inside crochet posts.

Part 17: Final Layout Placement
Before sewing, place all pieces on the green base. This step is important because the image has a balanced storybook arrangement with the tent on the left, cottage on the right, and fire in the center.
- Place the cream tent on the back-left side, angled slightly toward the center.
- Place the brown cottage on the back-right side, with the front facing forward.
- Place the campfire in the center front area.
- Seat the bear cub at the front-left side with the open book facing the fire.
- Seat the fox on the front-right side with the marshmallow stick pointing toward the flames.
- Place the hedgehog near the cottage and small table.
- Attach the owl to the cottage roof.
- Place the lantern posts behind the tent and cottage.
- Place the sign on the right side, near the crate.
- Add trees behind the large structures.
- Scatter mushrooms, leaves, pebbles, pillows, stools, and baskets in open spaces.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Use long yarn tails and a yarn needle for the final assembly. Sew each large piece through several base stitches so the scene feels stable. For the cottage and tent, sew along the bottom edges only, keeping the walls upright and clean.
For faces, keep details small and soft. Add tiny eyebrows to the bear, a pointed black nose to the fox, little cheek stitches to the hedgehog, and V-shaped feather marks to the owl. Use blush yarn sparingly if desired.
After all pieces are sewn down, add the final loose details: fireflies, leaves, pebbles, cookie bowl, pillows, socks, and mushrooms. The tiny items should look naturally scattered, not placed in perfect rows.
Care Notes
- Spot clean only with cool water and mild soap.
- Do not machine wash if the project contains wire, cardboard, plastic canvas, glued details, or battery lights.
- Keep away from open flame and heat sources.
- Use only cool LED lights if adding a glow effect behind windows or lanterns.
- Let the piece air dry completely before storage.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Round green base is flat and firm.
- Tent stands in an A-frame shape with open tied flaps.
- Cottage has front door, yellow windows, gray roof, and moss patches.
- Bear holds an open book.
- Fox holds a marshmallow stick toward the fire.
- Hedgehog holds a blue mug.
- Owl is attached securely to the roof.
- Lantern string hangs between two tall posts.
- Firepit has stones, logs, and layered flames.
- Sign clearly reads Story Night.
- Crate, socks, basket, cookies, leaves, mushrooms, trees, and stools are all attached.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Dust the campsite gently with a soft makeup brush or clean paintbrush. Work around the tiny lanterns, fireflies, socks, and mushroom caps carefully so they do not pull loose.
If a small stain appears, dampen a white cloth with cool water and gently press the stained area. Avoid rubbing because textured crochet stitches can become fuzzy.
For long-term display, keep the piece away from direct sunlight. Brown, green, red, and yellow yarns can fade over time if placed in a bright window every day.
When storing, place the campsite in a breathable box with tissue paper around the cottage roof, tent, sign, and lantern posts. Do not crush the scene under heavy objects.
Check the sewn joints occasionally. If a figure becomes loose, reattach it with matching yarn through the base and the bottom of the figure. This keeps the campsite neat, sturdy, and ready for many cozy story nights.
