Crochet Tutorial: Dachshund Flower Market Overall Doll – Free Crochet Pattern.

This cheerful crochet dachshund doll wears blue flower-market overalls, rainbow cuffs, a bright red pom-pom beanie, red heart glasses, soft sandals with bows, and a striped crossbody bag. The finished doll also includes a small crochet basket with gingham cloth and a tiny sunflower bouquet, matching the playful handmade garden style shown in the image.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Finished Size

Using sport weight cotton yarn and a 2.25 mm hook, the finished dachshund doll measures about 10.5 to 11.5 inches tall from sandals to pom-pom. The head is intentionally oversized, the ears are long and floppy, and the legs are short to match the cute dachshund proportion in the photo.

Skill Level

This pattern is best for confident beginners to intermediate crocheters. Most pieces use single crochet, increases, decreases, color changes, and small surface embroidery. The accessories are small, so keep your stitches firm and even for the clean amigurumi look.

General Crochet Notes

Work most amigurumi pieces in continuous rounds unless the pattern says otherwise. Use a stitch marker in the first stitch of every round. Stuff gradually, adding small amounts at a time so the surface stays smooth and firm.

The doll is designed with a large oval head, a long protruding muzzle, soft brown dachshund ears, a compact blue overall body, narrow tan arms, short legs, and oversized accessories. Keep the head firm, the ears lightly stuffed or unstuffed, and the clothes snug.

When changing color, complete the last yarn-over of the previous stitch with the new color. This keeps stripes and sleeve bands cleaner. For tiny accessories, weave tails inside whenever possible so the back remains neat.

Gauge

  • 8 sc and 9 rounds should measure about 1 inch with a 2.25 mm hook.
  • Gauge is not strict, but tight stitches are important.
  • If stuffing shows through, use a smaller hook.
  • If your doll becomes stiff or hard to shape, use a slightly larger hook.

Head

Use warm tan yarn. The head is an oval dome with the widest area around the eye line. The muzzle will be sewn on later, so keep the front center marked from Round 10 onward.

Pom-Pom

Wrap red yarn around three fingers about 55 times. Tie tightly at the center, cut the loops, and trim into a round pom-pom about 1.5 inches wide. Sew it firmly to the top center of the hat.

Place the hat on the head so the brim sits above the heart glasses. Sew the back and side edges lightly to the head using red yarn. Leave the front brim slightly raised for a soft handmade look.

Red Heart Glasses

The glasses are made from crocheted red cords shaped into two heart frames with a center bridge. Work tightly so the frames hold their shape. For display dolls, you may insert a thin flexible craft wire inside the cord before shaping.

Heart Frame Cords

Make two red cords.

  1. Ch 42.
  2. Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in each ch across. 41 sl sts.

  3. FO, leaving tails for sewing.

Sew one end of the strap to each side of the bag. Place the strap over the doll from the left shoulder to the right hip. Tack the strap lightly at the shoulder and side so it stays in place.

Flower Embroidery on Overalls

The overalls include tiny garden flowers on the lower left leg and chest. Use small scraps of green, yellow, red, pink, lavender, and white yarn. Keep embroidery shallow so the body does not pucker.

  • Stems: Use green yarn and make vertical straight stitches, each 3 to 5 rounds tall.
  • Leaves: Make tiny angled stitches beside each stem.
  • Yellow daisy: Make six short yellow stitches radiating from one center point.
  • Red flower: Make five red lazy-daisy stitches with a yellow center.
  • Pink flowers: Make small X stitches with green stems.
  • Chest detail: Add one small white-yellow flower near the upper bib and three tiny colored knots below it.

For the lower flower garden, place the tallest stems on the doll’s left pant leg. Add shorter flowers beside them so the design looks like a small meadow growing from the cuff.

  2. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook and across.
  3. Sew one flower head to the top of each stem.
  4. For each leaf, ch 5, sc in 2nd ch, hdc 2, sl st in last ch. Sew one or two leaves to each stem.

Bundle Tie

  1. With beige yarn, ch 18.
  2. Wrap it around the three stems and tie gently.
  3. Use the yarn tails to make a small bow shape.

Arrange the three flowers at slightly different heights before tying. This creates the natural flower-market bouquet shape seen beside the doll.

Attaching the Head to the Body

Place the head on the tan neck with the muzzle centered over the front bib. The head should tilt very slightly downward, giving the doll a sweet curious expression. Pin the head in place before sewing.

  1. Use the long tan neck tail to sew around the base of the head.
  2. Go through one stitch of the body and one stitch of the head each time.
  3. Complete one full round of sewing, then add a second round for strength.
  4. Add extra stuffing into the neck before closing the last gap.
  5. Check that the ears hang evenly and the muzzle remains centered.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Sew the ears first, then the muzzle, nose, and facial embroidery. Add the hat after the face is complete. Attach the heart glasses last so they sit cleanly over the eyes without pulling the muzzle out of shape.

  • Sew arms to the sides of the body at a downward angle.
  • Sew feet below the pant cuffs, then attach sandals around the feet.
  • Sew the overalls bib and straps securely before adding buttons.
  • Place the bag strap diagonally across the front and tack it at the shoulder.
  • Position the basket near one hand if you want it attached permanently.
  • Place the sunflower bouquet beside the doll or sew it lightly to one paw.

For the expression, use dark brown yarn to embroider a straight line below the nose and a tiny relaxed mouth. Add a few small stitches along the muzzle if you want extra texture, but keep the face simple and sweet.

Care Notes

Spot clean the doll with cool water and mild soap. Do not soak the heart glasses, pom-pom, or small embroidered flowers. Press gently with a towel and reshape the ears, hat, and bag while damp.

Let the doll air dry flat in a shaded place. Avoid direct sunlight for long periods because red, blue, and yellow yarn can fade. Keep the doll away from rough surfaces that may catch the tiny flower embroidery.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The head is firmly attached and does not wobble.
  • The muzzle is centered and lightly stuffed.
  • The ears are even, long, and floppy.
  • The red hat sits above the glasses with the pom-pom centered.
  • The heart glasses frame both eyes evenly.
  • The blue overalls have straps, buttons, cuffs, and flower embroidery.
  • The crossbody bag rests at the front hip.
  • The basket and sunflower bouquet are finished and neatly shaped.
  • The sandals show the tan toes and small peach bows.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

For long-term display, store the doll upright or flat in a clean cotton bag. Do not compress the pom-pom, ears, or glasses. If dust collects, use a soft dry brush and gently brush in the direction of the crochet stitches.

If the doll needs deeper cleaning, remove loose accessories first if they are not sewn down. Dab stained areas with a damp cloth. Avoid rubbing embroidered flowers, buttons, and the glasses frame because small stitches may loosen with friction.
