Materials

  • Sport weight wool or wool blend yarn in warm cream for the bunny body, ears, head, legs, arms, and hat base
  • Light fingering or sport weight yarn in warm cream with tiny multicolor speckles for the dress, shoes, accessories, and bird skirt
  • Small amounts of dusty pink, rose pink, mauve, lavender, lilac, plum, green, golden yellow, rust, white, and brown
  • Pair of straight needles or double-pointed needles in US 2 and US 3
  • Extra needle one size smaller for neat edging if desired
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stitch markers
  • Row counter
  • Small sharp scissors
  • Toy stuffing
  • Thin cardboard or plastic canvas for the bag base and flower box base
  • Tiny beads, sequins, or embroidered French-knot style accents for the hat brim dots
  • Optional craft wire for bouquet stems
  • Small snaps or hidden stitches for closing the dress and accessories

Finished Size

The bunny stands about 11 to 12 inches tall from feet to the top of the head, not including the hat. With the hat on, the full height is about 13 inches.

The tiny bird is about 3 inches tall. The flower bag is about 2 inches wide. The flower box is about 2 1/4 inches wide. The bouquet is about 2 1/2 inches long.

Gauge

In stockinette stitch on US 3 needles, 8 stitches and 11 rows = 1 inch after light blocking. Exact gauge matters because the bunny must hold its rounded shape and the dress must fit closely.

Knit firmly. A slightly dense fabric is better than a loose one for stuffed toys. If your stitches spread open, go down a needle size.

Construction Notes

This bunny is made from separate knitted pieces and then sewn together. The body is softly pear-shaped. The head is large and round with a gentle muzzle shape created by careful stuffing and light sculpting.

The ears are long, flat, and drooping. The arms and legs are slim tubes with mild shaping. The dress is worked separately and slipped onto the bunny before final neck joining if you prefer the cleanest finish.

The cardigan-style shoulder piece is short and open at the front. The hat has a rounded crown and a broad brim that frames the face. Small floral embellishments are added after knitting to match the image closely.

The speckled look on the dress and accessories may come from printed yarn, duplicate stitch, or scattered one-stitch embroideries. Use whichever method gives you the cleanest tiny confetti effect.

Bunny Legs Make 2

Using cream and US 2 needles, CO 14 sts. Work 2 rows in K1, P1 rib.

Change to stockinette and work 16 rows. Shape the foot very lightly so the bunny can stand with support and keep the narrow ankle seen in the image.

  2. Row 2: P.
  3. Row 3: K.
  4. Row 4: P.

Sew the side seam and the lower foot seam. Stuff the foot firmly and the upper leg moderately. Flatten the top edge and close later when attaching to the body.

Bunny Arms Make 2

Using cream and US 2 needles, CO 12 sts. Work 4 rows stockinette, beginning with a purl row.

Continue in stockinette for 28 rows. Taper gently so the wrist looks neat and the upper arm remains softly rounded.

  1. Row 1 RS: K1, k2tog, K6, ssk, K1. 10 sts.
  2. Work 8 rows even.
  3. Row 10 RS: K1, kfb, K6, kfb, K1. 12 sts.
  4. Work 10 rows even.

BO. Sew side seams. Stuff lightly, keeping the arm flexible and softly flattened. Do not overfill. The finished arm should curve inward naturally toward the dress.

Bunny Body

Using cream and US 3 needles, CO 24 sts. Work in stockinette, beginning with a purl row.

Shape the lower body gradually to create the rounded, seated-doll silhouette shown in the image. The waist must be slightly narrower than the skirt line of the dress, but still plump enough to support the outfit.

  1. Row 1 RS: K3, m1, K18, m1, K3. 26 sts.
  2. Row 2: P.
  3. Row 3: K4, m1, K18, m1, K4. 28 sts.
  4. Work 4 rows even.
  5. Next RS row: K5, m1, K18, m1, K5. 30 sts.
  6. Work 4 rows even.
  7. Next RS row: K6, m1, K18, m1, K6. 32 sts.

Work 12 rows even. Begin waist shaping.

  1. Next RS row: K2tog, K28, ssk. 30 sts.
  2. Work 3 rows even.
  3. Next RS row: K2tog, K26, ssk. 28 sts.
  4. Work 3 rows even.
  5. Next RS row: K2tog, K24, ssk. 26 sts.

Work 8 rows even. BO, leaving a long tail.

Sew the body seam. Stuff the lower half firmly and the upper half slightly less firmly. The body should feel stable but still soft. Close the lower opening around the tops of the legs, spacing them evenly so the bunny stands centered beneath the dress.

Head

Using cream and US 3 needles, CO 18 sts. Work in stockinette, beginning with a purl row.

This head is generous in size and almost round, with a slightly fuller lower half to create the sweet muzzle area. Keep your shaping smooth and symmetrical.

  1. Row 1 RS: K1, m1, K16, m1, K1. 20 sts.
  2. Row 2: P.
  3. Row 3 RS: K2, m1, K16, m1, K2. 22 sts.
  4. Row 4: P.
  5. Row 5 RS: K3, m1, K16, m1, K3. 24 sts.
  6. Continue in this manner every RS row until 32 sts.

Work 18 rows even. Then decrease for the crown.

  1. Row 1 RS: K2tog, K28, ssk. 30 sts.
  2. Row 2: P.
  3. Row 3 RS: K2tog, K26, ssk. 28 sts.
  4. Row 4: P.
  5. Continue decreasing every RS row in the same way until 18 sts remain.

Work 1 purl row. BO loosely.

Sew the head seam, leaving the lower edge open. Stuff very firmly, concentrating extra filling in the cheeks and lower face. Shape by hand as you stuff so the front looks smooth and rounded.

To create the gentle muzzle shown in the image, run a strong thread horizontally through the lower face about one-third up from the neck edge. Pull very lightly and knot securely. This should define the mouth area without making a deep dent.

Ears Make 2

Using cream and US 2 needles, CO 10 sts. Work in stockinette for 6 rows.

📌Thank you for reading the article

Increase to create the broad middle section of the ear, then taper softly. These ears are long, wide, and droop straight down from under the hat brim.

  1. Row 1 RS: K1, kfb, K6, kfb, K1. 12 sts.
  2. Row 2: P.
  3. Row 3 RS: K1, kfb, K8, kfb, K1. 14 sts.
  4. Work 16 rows even.
  5. Next RS row: K1, k2tog, K8, ssk, K1. 12 sts.
  6. Work 2 rows even.
  7. Next RS row: K1, k2tog, K6, ssk, K1. 10 sts.
  8. Work 2 rows even.
  9. Next RS row: K1, k2tog, K4, ssk, K1. 8 sts.
  10. Work 2 rows even.
  11. Next RS row: K1, k2tog, K2, ssk, K1. 6 sts.
  12. BO.

Make a second matching piece for each ear if you want a lined ear, or simply use one layer and fold lengthwise slightly. In the image, the ears look softly padded but still flat.

Sew and lightly stuff only at the upper third, or insert a thin layer of batting. Leave the lower portion unstuffed so it drapes naturally.

Face Embroidery

Use dark brown or black embroidery thread for the eyes. Place the eyes wide apart and slightly low on the face, closer to the outer sides than to the center. Each eye is a tiny angled almond shape, not a round dot.

Use dark brown for the nose and mouth. Make a small upside-down Y shape with a short vertical center line and two curved mouth lines. Keep the expression calm and gentle.

Body Assembly

Sew the head to the body with a strong ladder stitch. The head should sit centered and slightly forward.

Attach the arms at the shoulder line so they angle down and inward. Attach the ears high on the head, then let them fall beside the face. The hat will cover the upper ear join.

Dress Bodice

Using speckled cream yarn and US 2 needles, CO 30 sts. Work 4 rows in K1, P1 rib.

Continue in stockinette for 12 rows. Shape a gentle armhole line because the dress in the image has short cap-like sleeves and a snug upper body.

  1. Row 1 RS: BO 2 sts, K26, BO 2 sts. 26 sts.
  2. Row 2: P.
  3. Row 3 RS: K2tog, K22, ssk. 24 sts.
  4. Work 5 rows even.

For the neckline, BO center 8 sts on the next RS row. Work each side separately, decreasing 1 st at neck edge twice. Work until armhole depth measures about 1 1/4 inches. BO shoulders.

Work the back as two pieces for a neat opening. CO 16 sts for each back half, work to match front, shaping armhole on one side and neck on the opposite side. Sew shoulder seams.

Dress Sleeves

Using speckled cream yarn, pick up 18 sts around each armhole. Work 2 rows stockinette.

On the next RS row, work a tiny frill by knitting into front and back of every third stitch. Purl 1 row. Knit 1 row. BO loosely. Add a fine pink edging by embroidering a tiny running stitch around the sleeve rim.

Dress Skirt

From the lower bodice edge, pick up 42 sts using speckled cream yarn and US 3 needles. Work in stockinette for 8 rows.

Increase gradually so the skirt falls with a soft bell shape, full but not stiff. The image shows a dress that spreads gently, not a gathered puff.

  1. Next RS row: K6, m1; rep across. 48 sts.
  2. Work 4 rows even.
  3. Next RS row: K7, m1; rep across. 54 sts.
  4. Work 4 rows even.
  5. Next RS row: K8, m1; rep across. 60 sts.
  6. Work 6 rows even.

Work scalloped hem as follows:

  1. Row 1 RS: K.
  2. Row 2 WS: P.
  3. Row 3 RS: *K2tog, yo, K2; rep across.
  4. Row 4 WS: P all stitches, purling each yarn over normally.
  5. Rows 5 to 8: Stockinette.

📌Thank you for reading the article

BO loosely. Fold the lower section to the WS along the eyelet row if you want a deeper scalloped finish, or leave it open and steam lightly so the points show. In the image, the hem looks softly waved and decorative.

Confetti Details on Dress

The upper dress and skirt have tiny multicolor flecks scattered over the fabric. Use duplicate stitch or single straight stitches in pink, purple, blue, green, yellow, and coral.

Keep each fleck only one stitch high or one stitch wide. Scatter them lightly on the bodice and a bit more densely on the skirt. Leave space where the large flowers will be attached so the surface does not become crowded.

Large Floral Appliqués for Dress

The lower half of the skirt is decorated with padded floral clusters in several shades of pink and purple. Make 11 to 13 flowers in mixed sizes.

Each flower is made from a small knitted i-cord or tightly knitted petal nub wrapped into a circle, then stitched flat onto the dress. If you prefer, you may also knit tiny bobble petals directly as separate motifs.

Small Flower

  1. CO 12 sts in mauve, pink, or lavender.
  2. Row 1: P.
  3. Row 2: *K1, kfb; rep across. 18 sts.
  4. Row 3: P.
  5. Row 4: *K2tog; rep across. 9 sts.
  6. Break yarn, thread through remaining sts, pull into a rosette.

Medium Flower

  1. CO 16 sts.
  2. Row 1: P.
  3. Row 2: *K1, kfb; rep across. 24 sts.
  4. Row 3: P.
  5. Row 4: *K2tog; rep across. 12 sts.
  6. Draw up tightly into a puffed rosette.

Stitch flowers around the lower skirt in a loose garland, placing the largest flower near center front. Add tiny green straight stitches below some flowers to suggest stems or leaves.

Short Open Cardigan

The bunny wears a very short, sleeveless or cap-sleeved open-front top over the dress. It drapes from the shoulders and ends just above the waist flowers. Use a pale blush or blush-speckled cream yarn.

CO 34 sts. Work 4 rows in garter stitch. Continue in stockinette with garter borders of 3 sts at each front edge.

After 10 rows, divide for fronts and back as follows: 8 sts front, 18 sts back, 8 sts front. Work pieces separately for 8 more rows, shaping a slight neck slope on each front by decreasing 1 stitch at the neck edge every other row 3 times.

For a tiny shoulder frill like the image, pick up 14 sts around each arm edge and work 2 rows garter, then BO loosely. Sew shoulder seams only. Leave the front open. The little garment should curve softly and frame the floral dress without hiding the bodice.

Wide Brim Hat

Using cream and US 2 needles, CO 60 sts and join carefully if working in the round, or work flat and seam later. Begin with the crown.

Work 14 rounds or rows in stockinette. Shape the top gently to form a rounded dome, not a sharp cap.

  1. Decrease round: *K8, k2tog; rep around. 54 sts.
  2. Work 1 round even.
  3. Decrease round: *K7, k2tog; rep around. 48 sts.
  4. Work 1 round even.
  5. Decrease round: *K6, k2tog; rep around. 42 sts.
  6. Continue in this style until 12 sts remain.
  7. Thread yarn through remaining sts and close.

For the brim, pick up 72 sts around the lower crown edge and work 6 rows stockinette.

Increase every 8th stitch on the next RS row or round. Work 4 rows even. Increase every 9th stitch. Work 4 rows even. Continue until the brim spreads wide enough to frame the bunny face generously.

The brim in the image has decorative holes and colorful dots. To mimic this, work one eyelet row near the outer brim edge:

  1. *K2tog, yo, K4; rep around or across.

Work 4 more rows in stockinette, then finish with 3 rows garter stitch and BO loosely.

📌Thank you for reading the article

Steam the brim over a plate or rounded bowl so it curves gently downward. Sew tiny colored beads, sequins, or embroidered satin dots around the eyelet row, spacing them irregularly in pink, yellow, green, blue, purple, and coral.

Mary Jane Shoes Make 2

Using speckled cream and US 2 needles, CO 16 sts. Work 4 rows garter stitch.

Shape the toe and sides to fit over the lower feet snugly.

  1. Row 1 RS: K5, k2tog, K2, ssk, K5. 14 sts.
  2. Row 2: P.
  3. Row 3: K4, k2tog, K2, ssk, K4. 12 sts.
  4. Work 4 rows even.

BO. Sew into a tiny slipper shape. Add a narrow strap across the top by picking up 4 sts on one side, knitting 8 rows in garter, then sewing the end to the other side.

Embroider a tiny pink line near the opening to match the delicate trim in the image.

Flower Bag

This small soft bag has a square shape, floral motif, and a short handle. Use speckled cream yarn for the body.

Make two rectangles. CO 14 sts and work 18 rows in stockinette with 2 garter border stitches at each side. BO. Sew three sides together over a cardboard base insert.

For the flap, CO 12 sts and work 10 rows garter stitch. BO. Sew to the back top edge.

For the handle, make a 20-row i-cord on 3 stitches and attach to side edges. Embroider a pink flower on the front using duplicate stitch and lazy-daisy style loop stitches, with a pale yellow center.

Flower Box With Lid

Use speckled cream yarn. Knit a shallow base and separate lid. Both pieces should look lightly structured and decorative, like a tiny keepsake box filled with blossoms.

Base: CO 16 sts and work 10 rows garter. Pick up stitches around all four sides and work 6 rounds stockinette. BO loosely. Insert a small square of cardboard in the bottom.

Lid: Work the same base square, then pick up around edges and work only 3 rounds to create a shallow top. Add a small knitted flower cluster to the lid center.

Fill the open box with tiny blossoms made from short rolled strips of knitting in pastel shades. Use pink, lavender, lilac, blue, and yellow. Stitch them into the box loosely so they look abundant.

Little Hair Clips

Make three tiny decorative clips or ribbon loops as seen near the front of the display. These are very small and can be made quickly.

  • For each clip, CO 6 sts in pastel yarn.
  • Knit 8 rows in garter stitch.
  • BO and wrap the center with matching yarn to form a bow.
  • Add a tiny flower center to one or two of them.

Make one in yellow and pink, one in lavender and white, and one in pink and cream for the same cheerful color balance as the image.

Bouquet

The bouquet contains clustered blossom heads in pink and lavender with green stems. Make 5 to 7 flower stems.

For each stem, make a 2-stitch i-cord about 1 1/2 inches long in green. At the top, attach a tiny flower puff made from 8 to 12 stitches drawn into a rosette.

Gather several stems together and wrap with green yarn. Bend slightly if using wire inside the stems. Keep the bouquet compact and rounded.

Tiny Bird Companion

The small bird has a rust-orange chest, brown wings, a cream hat, and a tiny speckled dress. It sits upright beside the bunny.

Bird Body

Using rust yarn, CO 12 sts. Work in stockinette for 8 rows. Increase to 16 sts over the next two RS rows. Work 8 rows even.

Change to brown and work 4 rows for upper back. Decrease on both sides every other row until 10 sts remain. BO.

Sew the body seam and stuff firmly. Shape into a plump teardrop. Embroider two tiny black eyes and a small pointed beak in dark brown or gold-brown.

Bird Wings Make 2

Using brown, CO 6 sts. Work 2 rows stockinette. Increase at each side every other row twice, then work 4 rows even. Decrease back to 6 sts. BO.

Sew wings flat to the sides of the bird body.

Bird Dress

Using speckled cream, CO 20 sts. Work 3 rows in K1, P1 rib. Then work 8 rows stockinette, increasing 4 stitches evenly on the last row.

Work 4 more rows. BO loosely. Sew into a tiny wrap skirt and stitch around the bird base. Add one or two pink rosettes if desired.

Bird Hat

Using cream, CO 24 sts and work a tiny rounded cap with a short brim. Add a pale pink band and a tiny yellow flower on one side. Stitch the hat to the bird securely.

Dressing the Bunny

Place the dress on the bunny and close the back neatly with hidden stitches. The skirt should spread gently over the legs and stop above the shoes so the scalloped hem remains visible.

Add the short cardigan over the dress. Tack the front edges lightly near the shoulders if you want them to stay open in the correct position.

Place the shoes on the feet and stitch them in place with a few hidden stitches underneath.

Set the hat over the ears so the brim frames the face evenly. Tack the hat with two or three hidden stitches under the brim near the ears.

Color Placement Guide

To match the image closely, keep the bunny body and hat in soft cream. Use cream with multicolor speckles for the dress, shoes, bag, box, and the bird skirt.

Use mostly pink and mauve flowers on the dress, with a few lavender flowers for contrast. Keep green embroidery small and subtle. The overall effect should remain soft, airy, and refined.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Check that the head is centered, the ears fall evenly, and both arms sit at the same height. Steam the dress lightly, but do not flatten the floral appliqués.

Revisit the face last. If needed, add one tiny extra stitch to each eye to sharpen the angled shape. Keep the nose small and the mouth delicate so the expression stays gentle.

Arrange the accessories around the bunny: bag to one side, flower box open, clips near the front, bouquet gathered nearby, and bird standing at the opposite side.

Care Notes

  • Handle the hat brim and flowers gently
  • Keep the bunny away from rough play if made as a display piece
  • Store accessories in a small box when not displayed
  • Do not hang the bunny by the hat or ears

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • Eyes embroidered evenly and placed low on the face
  • Nose and mouth centered
  • Ears matched in length and angle
  • Dress hem scallops visible all around
  • Floral appliqués balanced across the skirt front
  • Cardigan sitting open and neat
  • Hat brim curved softly downward
  • Shoes secured evenly
  • Bag, box, bouquet, clips, and bird completed

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

For routine care, dust the bunny and accessories with a soft dry brush. Support the flowers and hat brim with your fingers while cleaning.

If deeper cleaning is needed, spot clean only with cool water and a tiny amount of wool-safe soap. Blot gently with a towel and reshape immediately.

Do not machine wash. Do not twist or wring. Dry flat away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep beads, floral trims, and cardboard inserts as dry as possible.

For long-term storage, wrap the bunny in acid-free tissue and place it in a breathable box. Avoid plastic bags, damp rooms, and heavy stacking on top of the hat or flower details.
