This cheerful crochet spaniel dog is designed with a rounded plush head, long fluffy golden ears, bright blue eyes, a blue and white striped summer dress, matching sandals, a small bee crossbody bag, flower hair clips, and a separate blue sun hat decorated with tiny blossoms. The finished doll has a soft garden-party look with many sweet details, from daisy embroidery on the dress to little toe lines on the paws.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Finished Size
- Dog height: about 13 inches from top of head to bottom of feet when made with bulky chenille yarn and a 4.0 mm hook.
- Head width: about 4.75 inches across the cheeks.
- Dress length: about 5 inches from shoulder neckline to lower hem.
- Sun hat width: about 6.5 inches across the brim.
- Bee bag: about 1.75 inches tall, not including the strap.
Skill Level
Advanced beginner to intermediate. The main body uses simple amigurumi shaping, while the dress, fluffy ears, flowers, sandals, and small bag add extra detail. The instructions are written round by round so a careful beginner can follow along slowly.
Materials

Gauge Notes
For the plush body, crochet firmly enough that stuffing does not show through. With bulky chenille yarn and a 4.0 mm hook, 6 sc rounds should measure about 2 inches tall. If your stitches are loose, move down to a 3.5 mm hook.
The dress and accessories should look tighter and flatter than the plush body. Use the 3.0 mm hook for the dress, bag, sandals, hat, flowers, and embroidery details. This keeps the striped dress crisp and close to the dog’s shape.
Construction Overview
- The head and body are made separately, then sewn together with the head slightly tilted forward.
- The muzzle is crocheted separately and sewn onto the lower front of the head.
- The ears are long, soft, and fluffy, attached on both sides of the head from about eye height down to the shoulder line.
- The dress is crocheted as a separate sleeveless garment and fitted over the body before the arms are fully secured.
- The sandals, bee bag, flowers, and sun hat are made separately and sewn or placed as decorative pieces.
Head
Use warm caramel tan chenille yarn and the 4.0 mm hook. Work in continuous rounds. Stuff gradually as the head grows. The head should be large, round, and slightly wider at the cheeks, matching the soft puppy expression in the image.

Finish stuffing the head firmly, especially around the cheeks. FO with a long tail. Close the opening by weaving through the front loops of the remaining 12 stitches and pulling tight.
Muzzle
The muzzle is oval and protrudes gently from the lower face. Use warm caramel tan chenille yarn and the 4.0 mm hook. Do not overstuff; the shape should be rounded but soft.

FO with a long tail. Lightly stuff. Pin the muzzle centered below the eyes, with the top edge beginning about 2 rounds below the eye line. Sew around the edge securely, keeping the lower part rounded.
Nose and Mouth
Use dark brown yarn. The nose should be small, triangular, and centered near the upper front of the muzzle. Build the nose with embroidery so it sits softly on the plush surface.
- Make a triangle about 4 stitches wide and 3 rounds tall.
- Fill the triangle with horizontal satin stitches.
- Add one short vertical stitch downward from the center bottom of the nose.
- Add a tiny curved smile line on each side if desired, but keep it subtle.
Eye Detailing
The image shows large glossy blue eyes with white highlights and soft white lower accents. Use white yarn or embroidery thread to create a bright expression.
- Stitch a small white crescent under the outer lower edge of each eye.
- Add one tiny white highlight stitch near the upper outer edge of each eye.
- Use black thread to add a very short upper eyelid line over each eye.
- Keep both eyes symmetrical before knotting the thread inside the head.
Body
Use caramel tan chenille yarn and the 4.0 mm hook. The body is pear-shaped, narrower at the neck, fuller at the lower belly, and sized to sit under the striped dress.

Stuff the body firmly at the base and moderately near the neck. FO with a long tail for sewing. The head will sit directly on the 18-stitch neck opening.
Legs
Make 2 legs with caramel tan chenille yarn and the 4.0 mm hook. The legs are long and straight with rounded feet. The visible lower legs extend below the dress and into the sandals.
Foot and Leg
- R1: ch 6. Starting in the second ch from hook, sc 4, 3 sc in last ch. Work on the other side, sc 3, inc in last ch. 12 sts.
- R2: inc, sc 3, inc in next 3 sts, sc 3, inc in next 2 sts. 18 sts.

- R6: sc 5, dec 4 times, sc 5. 14 sts.
- R7-R18: sc in each st around. 14 sts each round.
Stuff the foot firmly. Stuff the leg lightly so it remains flexible. Flatten the top opening and sc through both layers with 7 sc. FO, leaving a long sewing tail.
Toe Embroidery
Use dark brown yarn and a yarn needle. On each foot, embroider three vertical toe lines across the front top of the paw. Each line should be 2 rounds tall. Place the center toe line first, then one toe line on each side.
Arms
Make 2 arms with caramel tan chenille yarn and the 4.0 mm hook. The arms are slim, rounded at the paws, and hang at the sides of the dress.
- R1: 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
- R2: inc in each st around. 12 sts.
- R3: sc 3, inc, repeat around. 15 sts.
- R4-R6: sc in each st around. 15 sts each round.
- R7: sc 3, dec, repeat around. 12 sts.
- R8-R19: sc in each st around. 12 sts each round.

Stuff the paw firmly and the upper arm lightly. Flatten the top and sc through both layers with 6 sc. FO with a long tail. Add two short dark brown paw lines at the rounded end of each hand.
Fluffy Spaniel Ears
The ears are one of the most important details. They should be long, soft, full, and slightly wider near the middle. Use golden honey faux fur or fluffy eyelash yarn with the 4.0 mm hook. Work slowly because stitches may be hidden by the fuzz.
Make 2 ears. If the yarn is very hard to see, hold a thin matching cotton yarn together with the fluffy yarn. This gives stronger stitch definition without removing the soft texture.
- R1: ch 9. Starting in the second ch from hook, sc 7, 3 sc in last ch. Work on the other side, sc 6, inc in last ch. 18 sts.
- R2: inc, sc 6, inc in next 3 sts, sc 6, inc in next 2 sts. 24 sts.
- R3: sc 2, inc, sc 6, repeat sc 2, inc three times, sc 6, repeat sc 2, inc twice. 30 sts.
- R4-R12: sc in each st around. 30 sts each round.
- R13: sc 8, dec, repeat around. 27 sts.
- R14-R18: sc in each st around. 27 sts each round.
- R19: sc 7, dec, repeat around. 24 sts.
- R20-R23: sc in each st around. 24 sts each round.
- R24: sc 6, dec, repeat around. 21 sts.
- R25-R27: sc in each st around. 21 sts each round.
Do not stuff the ears. Flatten each ear so the oval shape hangs naturally. Sc through both layers with 10 sc to close the top. FO with a long sewing tail.
Brush the ears gently with your fingers, not a sharp brush. Attach each ear along the side of the head from R10 to R20. The top of the ear should sit just behind the flower clip area, and the ear should hang beside the face down to the shoulder.
Attaching Head, Body, Legs, and Arms
- Pin the legs to the lower front of the body, leaving 5 stitches between them.
- Sew each leg to the underside of the body so the dog can sit or dangle naturally.
- Place the head on top of the body with the muzzle facing forward.
- Sew around the neck twice using the long body tail. Add extra stitches at the front so the head tilts slightly forward.
- Do not fully sew the arms yet if you want the dress straps to sit underneath them. Pin the arms at R18 of the body and wait until the dress is fitted.
Striped Blue and White Dress
The dress is worked from the top down with a fitted bodice and flared skirt. Use the 3.0 mm hook. The dress should have narrow shoulder straps, a rounded neckline, horizontal blue and white stripes, and a fuller skirt that reaches just above the knees.
Color Sequence
- Rows 1-2: sky blue.
- Rows 3-4: white.
- Rows 5-6: sky blue.
- Rows 7-8: white.
- Continue alternating 2 rounds sky blue and 2 rounds white through the skirt.
- Finish with a sky blue border at the hem.
Bodice Back-Opening Panel
The bodice is made in turned rows first so it can open at the back. Use sky blue yarn.
- Row 1: ch 37. Starting in the second ch from hook, sc 36. Turn.
- Row 2: ch 1, sc 36. Turn.
- Row 3: change to white, ch 1, sc 36. Turn.
- Row 4: ch 1, sc 5, ch 7, skip 7 sts for armhole, sc 12, ch 7, skip 7 sts for second armhole, sc 5. Turn. 24 sc and 14 ch spaces.

- Row 6: ch 1, sc 36. Turn.
- Row 7: change to white, ch 1, sc 36. Turn.
- Row 8: ch 1, sc 36. Do not turn after this row.
Bring the short back edges close together without overlapping. Sl st into the first stitch of Row 8 to begin working the skirt in joined rounds. Leave a small back slit of about 1 inch at the top for dressing the doll.
Skirt
The skirt flares with regular increases. Join each round with a sl st and ch 2 at the beginning of each new dc round. The ch 2 does not count as a stitch.

FO and weave in ends. The dress should flare outward with a soft bell shape. If it looks too tight, add one extra increase round before R9.
Dress Neckline and Armhole Edging
- Join sky blue yarn at the back neckline.
- Sc evenly around the neckline, placing 1 sc in each stitch and 2 sc at each front corner.
- Join with sl st and FO.
- Repeat around each armhole with sky blue yarn, making 18 sc evenly around each opening.
Back Closure
- On one back edge, join sky blue yarn and ch 5 to create a small loop.
- Sew a tiny yarn knot or small crochet bobble to the opposite back edge as a button.
- The dress should close gently behind the neck without squeezing the body.
Dress Daisy Embroidery
The dress in the image has tiny white daisies with yellow centers and green leaves scattered across the blue and white stripes. Add them after the dress is on the doll so the flowers sit in visible positions.
Small Daisy
- Use yellow yarn to make one French knot or small vertical stitch for the center.
- Use white yarn to make 5 small straight stitches around the center.
- Each petal should be about 1 stitch wide and 1 round tall.
- Use green yarn to add one or two tiny leaf stitches below selected daisies.
Placement
- Place 3 daisies across the upper skirt front.
- Place 4 daisies along the lower skirt front.
- Place 1 daisy near the left side seam and 1 near the right side seam.
- Keep the back simpler with 2 small daisies so the dress remains comfortable under the arms.
Blue Sandals
Make 2 sandals using sky blue yarn and the 3.0 mm hook. Each sandal has a sole, a front strap, and a white stripe detail. The tan toes should remain visible at the front.
Sandal Sole
- R1: ch 8. Starting in the second ch from hook, sc 6, 3 sc in last ch. Work on the other side, sc 5, inc in last ch. 16 sts.

- R4: BLO sc in each st around. 28 sts.
FO on the first sole. Make a second sole the same way for the other foot. For a thicker look, make 4 soles total and sew 2 together for each sandal.
Front Strap
- Join sky blue yarn to the left side of the sole at the widest part of the foot.
- Ch 9, stretch the chain across the top of the toes, and sl st to the opposite side of the sole.
- Turn and work 10 sc around the chain, then sl st into the sole.
- FO and weave in ends.
White Stripe on Strap
- Use white yarn and a yarn needle.
- Embroider a straight horizontal line across the center of the blue strap.

Assembly Details for the Image-Accurate Look
- Keep the head large compared with the body. The head should be nearly as wide as the upper dress.
- The muzzle must sit low and centered, giving the dog a puppy-like face.
- The ears must hang long and full beside the face, reaching close to the shoulders.
- The dress should flare outward from the waist and show clear blue and white horizontal stripes.
- The bag strap should cross from the dog’s right shoulder down to the left hip.
- The sandals should show the tan toes clearly at the front.
- The sun hat should be separate, wide-brimmed, and decorated with flowers on one side.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Check every piece with pins before sewing permanently. The ears should be symmetrical, the eyes should look level, and the muzzle should be centered below them. Sew the head to the body with strong stitches, then sew the arms after the dress is fitted.
Add the final facial details last. Small white eye highlights, a neat dark brown nose, and gentle toe embroidery make the doll look polished. Keep all knots hidden inside nearby stitches so the plush surface stays clean.
Care Notes
- Spot clean only with cool water and mild soap.
- Do not machine wash if using faux fur yarn, safety eyes, or delicate embroidery.
- Let the doll air dry completely before storing.
- Keep the hat, bag, watering can, and potted flower separate during cleaning.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Head is firmly stuffed and securely attached.
- Muzzle is centered and softly rounded.
- Both fluffy ears hang evenly.
- Dress stripes are horizontal and the skirt flares evenly.
- Daisies are stitched across the dress front.
- Bag strap sits diagonally across the chest.
- Sandals fit both feet and show the toe embroidery.
- Hat brim is flat enough to rest nicely beside the doll.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Store the finished spaniel in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Long exposure to sunlight can fade the blue dress, pastel flowers, and golden ears. If dust collects on the fluffy ears, shake them gently and smooth the fibers with your fingers.
For deeper cleaning, dampen a soft cloth with cool water and lightly press the surface. Avoid rubbing the embroidered daisies, bee bag, and flower clips. Let every part dry flat. Do not use heat, bleach, or strong detergent on the finished crochet doll.
