This funny green mosquito amigurumi is designed with a long curved nose, oversized white eyes with pink stitched veins, a wide grinning mouth, thin antennae, and a playful picnic outfit. The doll wears red and white striped sleeves under blue overalls, green flip-flop sandals, a tiny shoulder bag, and carries a picnic basket filled with colorful fruit. Extra accessories include a yellow sun hat, a small sandwich, and delicate wing details on the back.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern creates a tall, slim mosquito character with exaggerated cartoon proportions. The head is wide and flattened at the mouth area, the eyes sit high on top, and the nose is long, soft, and slightly downward-curved. The body is narrow, while the legs and arms are very thin to match the insect-like shape in the image.
The clothing is made as built-in crochet layers and small sewn-on pieces. The striped shirt sits under the overalls, and the overalls include a bib, shoulder straps, cuffs, and tiny flower appliques. The picnic basket, fruit, shoulder satchel, sun hat, sandwich, antennae, lashes, sandals, and wings are made separately and attached during final assembly.
Finished Size
- Finished mosquito height: about 15 inches from sandal sole to top of eyes, not including antennae.
- Head width: about 4.75 inches across the grin.
- Body height: about 4.5 inches from neck to shorts hem.
- Nose length: about 4.75 inches from face to rounded tip.
- Leg length: about 5.5 inches from shorts to sandals.
- Basket size: about 2.25 inches wide and 1.5 inches tall.
- Hat size: about 4.25 inches across the brim.
Skill Level
Intermediate amigurumi. The stitches are simple, but the project uses many small parts, shaping, color changes, surface embroidery, and careful assembly. A confident beginner can make it by following each round slowly and using stitch markers.
Materials
- Worsted weight cotton or cotton-blend yarn in bright lime green for mosquito body.
- White yarn for eyes and teeth panel.
- Black embroidery thread or thin black yarn for smile grid, lashes, antenna fuzz, and wing outlines.

Important Gauge and Fabric Notes
Use a tight amigurumi tension so stuffing does not show through. The green body in the photo has a firm, even stitch texture with small, compact stitches. If your stitches look loose, go down half a hook size before beginning the full doll.
For the most image-accurate result, keep the body tall and narrow, not round and chunky. Stuff the head and eyes firmly, but stuff the limbs lightly so they remain slim. The nose should be filled gradually and gently so it stays long and tapered instead of becoming bulky.
Body Color Plan
- Green: head, nose, neck, arms, hands, legs, feet, and visible insect skin.
- Red and white: short striped shirt sleeves and shirt section under overalls.
- Blue: overalls, bib, shorts, and leg cuffs.
- Light blue: cuffs, pocket trim, and some decorative flower details.
- Brown and tan: picnic basket, satchel, sandal soles, and sandwich crust.

Facial Placement
Before sewing permanently, pin every face part in place. The eyes should touch or nearly touch at the center top of the head. The nose begins between the eyes and descends over the mouth area, extending down past the neck.
- Sew the large eye to the upper left side of the head.
- Sew the smaller eye to the upper right side, slightly lower than the large eye.
- Attach the nose base patch vertically between the eyes and the mouth.
- Sew the wide base of the nose onto the patch, allowing the nose to curve downward.
- Sew the grin across the lower front, with the nose overlapping its center slightly.
Assembly Instructions
- Sew the neck firmly to the top center of the torso.
- Sew the head to the top of the neck, checking that the grin faces forward.
- Add extra stitches at the back of the neck so the head does not droop.
- Sew the arms to each side of the upper torso, just under the striped shirt section.
- Slide the red and white sleeves into place and tack them to the shoulders.
- Sew one leg into each shorts opening, keeping both legs long and parallel.
- Sew one foot to the bottom of each leg, angled slightly outward.
- Sew or slide the sandals onto the feet and tack them underneath.
- Sew wings to the back of the torso, beginning at shoulder height and angling downward.
- Insert antennae into the top of the head behind the eyes and secure with strong stitches.
- Place the bow on one antenna and secure it neatly.
- Hang the satchel strap across the body and tack it at the shoulder and hip.
- Sew the basket handle to one hand so it appears carried.
Optional Wire Support
If this doll is intended for display only, thin wire can help the long limbs and nose hold their shape. Wrap the ends of any wire with tape before inserting so no sharp point can poke through the yarn.
- Use one thin wire inside each leg for a straighter standing pose.
- Use one short flexible wire inside the nose if you want a stronger downward curve.
- Do not use wire if the item is for a young child.
- Stuff around the wire carefully so the shape remains smooth.
Decorative Details
Black Smile Grid
The grid lines on the teeth give the mosquito its funny grin. Use small straight stitches and keep them evenly spaced. The vertical lines should follow the curve of the white mouth panel rather than staying perfectly straight.
Eye Expression
The pupils should look slightly uneven. Place one pupil just a little higher than the other. This gives the character the goofy picnic expression shown in the image.
Overall Buttons
Sew a tiny tan button on each front strap. Add one more small button to the satchel flap. If making this for a child, replace buttons with embroidered circles for safety.
Flower Placement
- One yellow flower sits on the upper front bib.
- Small flowers sit near the lower shorts area.
- Use short green embroidery stitches as leaves beside the flowers.
- Keep flower appliques small so the overalls remain visible.
Beginner Tips
- Use a stitch marker at the first stitch of every round.
- Count stitches after each increase and decrease round.
- Pin the parts before sewing so the proportions stay correct.
- Stuff slowly in small pieces instead of pushing in one large clump.
- Use matching yarn tails for sewing, and hide knots inside the body.
- For clean stripes, change color on the final yarn-over of the stitch before the new color begins.
How to Keep the Shape Accurate
The most important shape feature is contrast. The head and eyes are oversized, while the neck, arms, legs, and body remain narrow. Avoid overstuffing the limbs because thick limbs will change the insect-like look.
The nose should not point straight forward. It should begin at the face, then curve down over the front body. When sewing the nose base, attach the top edge firmly and leave the lower length soft so it can hang naturally.
The overalls should sit high on the torso, with the bib covering the center front and the shorts reaching the tops of the long green legs. Add light blue cuffs at the bottom of each shorts leg for the rolled hem detail.

- Check that both eyes are securely sewn and slightly uneven for a humorous look.
- Reinforce the base of the long nose with several hidden stitches.
- Stitch the pink eye veins after the eyes are attached if you want the veins to follow the final angle.
- Brush the black antenna tips gently with your fingers to make them fluffy.
- Make sure the grin is wide, curved upward, and visible behind the nose.
- Tack the satchel strap in two places so it stays diagonally across the body.
- Sew the basket to the hand with 3 or 4 small stitches through the handle.
Care Notes
- Spot clean gently with a damp cloth and mild soap.
- Do not machine wash if you used wire, beads, buttons, or glued antenna details.
- Let the doll air dry flat on a towel.
- Reshape the nose, limbs, hat, and basket while damp if needed.
- Keep away from heavy moisture, strong sunlight, and rough pulling.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
To preserve the shape, store the mosquito flat or slightly supported under the head and nose. Do not hang it by the antennae, bag strap, or arms. The long limbs can stretch if the doll is suspended for a long time.
For dust removal, use a soft paintbrush around the eyes, grin, basket fruit, flowers, and sandal beads. Work slowly around the embroidered details so the thread does not loosen.
If the overalls or basket become flattened, reshape them with your fingers. Add a tiny amount of fresh stuffing through a hidden seam only if necessary. Keep the finished piece in a dry place so the fibers remain firm and clean.
