Important Notes Before You Start
Use tight stitches so the stuffing does not show. Stuff each piece gradually, especially the head, body, legs, and muzzle. The image has soft, rounded shapes, so avoid overstuffing the narrow arms, legs, ears, and hats. The face should stay gentle and slightly flattened at the muzzle area.
The cows use the same basic body shape, but the clothing, face patches, ears, shoes, hats, and bags make each doll different. For a matching couple, keep both heads close in size and place the eyes at the same height. The girl’s look is softer and floral; the boy’s look is garden-themed with green, orange, black, and sunflower details.
Shared Basic Head Shape for Both Cows

- Make 5 flowers in white, pink, lavender, pale blue, and yellow.
- Sew flowers to the soil insert, clustering them at different heights.
Optional Green Hat for Background
The image also shows a separate green hat lying beside the dolls. You can make a second green garden hat using the boy hat instructions. Leave off the sunflower if you want it to look like a spare accessory, or add a brown band only.
Optional Blue Hat for Background
The image shows the girl’s blue hat placed beside the dolls. If you prefer the hat as a display prop instead of wearing it, make the hat exactly as written and place it next to the girl cow. Sew the daisies to the brim side so they remain visible from the front.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
- Sew each head to its matching body using the long body tail. Add extra stitches around the neck so the head does not wobble.
- Sew ears to the sides of each head, then sew horns above the ears.
- Sew the muzzles centered on the lower face. Add nostrils with small embroidery stitches.
- Add the girl’s tan face patches and flower clip. Add the boy’s black eye patch, tan patch, and beige fringe.
- Sew the girl’s arms under the shoulder area so they rest beside the dress.
- Sew the boy’s arms under the shoulder area, close to the striped shirt rounds.
- Attach the girl’s skirt flowers evenly around the hem.
- Place the hats on the heads or display them beside the dolls, matching the image layout.
- Add the purse to the girl and the pumpkin bag to the boy.
- Place the watering can and flower pot behind the dolls for a complete garden scene.
For the eyes, embroider one small white stitch on the upper outer side of each black eye. Add short black lashes to the girl cow if desired. Keep the lashes small and angled outward so the face remains soft. Add light pink blush beside each muzzle for a gentle handmade finish.
Care Notes
- Spot clean with cool water and mild soap.
- Do not machine wash if safety eyes, buttons, or blush are used.
- Let the dolls air dry completely before storing.
- Keep the hats and bags separate during storage so the brims and straps do not bend.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Both cows have matching rounded heads and soft pink muzzles.
- The girl cow has a blue dress, blue shoes, blue hat, daisy details, and blue purse.
- The boy cow has green overalls, orange-striped shirt rounds, green shoes, green hat, sunflower, and pumpkin bag.
- The horns are even, the ears are angled downward, and the face patches are smooth.
- The watering can, flower pot, and garden accessories are included for the full display.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
To preserve the shape, avoid soaking the dolls. Use a damp cloth to clean small marks, then press gently with a dry towel. Do not twist the limbs, hats, bags, or flower petals. If the brim of a hat bends, reshape it with your fingers while slightly damp and allow it to dry flat.
Store the cow couple in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Long sunlight exposure can fade pastel blue, green, pink, and orange yarn. If gifting to a young child, embroider the eyes and buttons instead of using plastic safety eyes or small hard pieces.
