Finished Size

  • Main lamb: about 12 in / 30.5 cm tall from shoes to flower crown.
  • Sitting height: about 9 in / 23 cm.
  • Head width: about 3.75 in / 9.5 cm.

  • Strawberry bag: about 2 in / 5 cm tall.
  • Blue garden hat: about 4.75 in / 12 cm across the brim.

Skill Level

This pattern is best for an adventurous beginner or intermediate knitter. The main doll uses simple increases, decreases, stockinette stitch, garter stitch edges, small seamed pieces, I-cords, loop stitches, and embroidery. Each part is written with specific stitch counts so the lamb keeps the same rounded proportions shown in the image.

Gauge

  • Main gauge: 28 sts and 36 rnds = 4 in / 10 cm in stockinette stitch on US 2 / 2.75 mm needles.
  • Dense toy fabric: stitches should be tight enough that stuffing does not show.
  • Loop-stitch wool cap: exact gauge is less important, but the cap should fit snugly over the head.

Materials

  • DK or light worsted yarn in cream for face, arms, legs, and inner ears.
  • DK yarn in warm brown for neck and curly lamb wool.
  • DK yarn in dusty taupe or brown-mauve for outer ears.
  • DK yarn in pale blue for the dress, shoes, and sun hat.
  • DK yarn in white for cardigan, daisies, hat trim, and bee wings.
  • Small amounts of yellow, pink, red, green, black, gray, beige, and light blue yarn.
  • US 2 / 2.75 mm double-pointed needles or circular needle for magic loop.
  • US 3 / 3.25 mm needles for the dress skirt if you want a softer flare.
  • Two 7 mm black safety eyes, or black yarn for embroidered eyes.
  • Fiberfill stuffing.
  • Tapestry needle, stitch markers, scissors, pins, and removable stitch holders.
  • Optional: tiny pink blush or pink yarn for cheek shading.

Abbreviations

  • BO: bind off.
  • CO: cast on.
  • k: knit.
  • p: purl.
  • st / sts: stitch / stitches.
  • rnd / rnds: round / rounds.
  • RS: right side.
  • WS: wrong side.

  • yo: yarn over.
  • I-cord: knit a narrow cord by sliding stitches back to the needle tip after each row.

Pattern Notes

The lamb is knitted in separate shaped pieces and then sewn together. The head is round and slightly oval, the body is smaller than the head, and the dress gives the doll the wide garden-dress silhouette visible in the image. Stuff each piece firmly, but do not overstuff the dress area.

Use cream yarn for the smooth lamb face and limbs. The curly wool is created with a brown loop-stitch cap, then trimmed lightly so the loops sit like soft ringlets around the forehead. The flower crown is sewn along the top edge of the curls.

The dress is knitted separately from hem to bodice. It has a soft rolled lower edge, a wide blue skirt, a fitted bib-style bodice, and embroidered white daisies with yellow centers. The cardigan is cropped, open in front, and sits just above the dress waist.

Face Muzzle Patch

The lamb in the image has a soft cream muzzle area that blends into the face. This patch adds a gentle rounded snout and gives the embroidered mouth a clear place to sit.

  1. With cream yarn, CO 8 sts. Work flat.
  2. Row 1: P all sts.
  3. Row 2: K1, kfb, k4, kfb, k1. 10 sts.
  4. Row 3: P all sts.
  5. Row 4: K1, kfb, k6, kfb, k1. 12 sts.
  6. Row 5: P all sts.
  7. Row 6: K all sts.
  8. Row 7: P all sts.
  9. Row 8: K1, ssk, k6, k2tog, k1. 10 sts.
  10. Row 9: P all sts.
  11. Row 10: K1, ssk, k4, k2tog, k1. 8 sts.
  12. BO loosely, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Pin the muzzle patch centered on the lower front of the head, with its top edge about 6 rnds below the eye line. Sew around the edge with small invisible stitches. Add only a whisper of stuffing under the patch so the snout is raised but not bulky.

Eyes, Nose, and Mouth Placement

  • Place eyes between Rnds 23 and 24 of the head, about 10 sts apart.
  • The muzzle patch should sit directly below the eyes.
  • Embroider a small brown Y-shaped nose at the upper center of the muzzle.
  • For the mouth, stitch one short vertical line down from the nose, then two tiny curved lines outward.
  • Add two short brown eyebrow stitches above the eyes, slanting softly upward toward the center.
  • Add three tiny black eyelash stitches at the outer edge of each eye.

  9. Row 17: P all sts.
  10. Row 18: K1, ssk, k4, k2tog, k1. 8 sts.
  11. BO loosely.

Lay one inner ear on one outer ear with WS together. Sew around the edge, leaving the cast-on edge open. Lightly steam with your hand only, not the iron. Fold the cast-on edge in half and stitch it closed so each ear cups forward. Sew the ears to the sides of the head between Rnds 21 and 27.

Body and Brown Neck

The body is mostly hidden by the blue dress, but it must support the head and arms. Use cream for the lower body and brown for the visible neck area.

  2. Rnds 1–5: K all sts for the rounded hand.
  3. Rnd 6: K3, k2tog, repeat twice. 8 sts.

The arms are sewn under the cardigan sleeves. Attach them to the upper sides of the body just below the brown neck. The hands should peek from the cardigan cuffs.

Curly Brown Wool Cap

This cap creates the lamb’s soft brown wool and forehead curls. Use brown yarn. Work in the round. A loop stitch is made by knitting the stitch while holding a 1 in / 2.5 cm loop of yarn on the outside of the fabric.

  17. Rnd 19: K2tog around. 8 sts.
  18. Cut yarn, thread through remaining sts, pull closed, and secure.

Fit the cap over the top and back of the head. Pull several loops forward to create the curly bangs shown in the image. Sew the cap in place along the hairline, leaving the cream face smooth and visible.

Blue Garden Dress

The dress has a full blue skirt, fitted bodice, and daisy embroidery. Use pale blue yarn. Work the skirt in the round from the bottom upward. Use US 3 / 3.25 mm needles for the skirt if you want extra drape, then switch to US 2 / 2.75 mm for the bodice.

  3. Sew the arms to the upper body and angle them downward.
  4. Sew the legs to the lower front body so they hang evenly under the dress.
  5. Slide the blue dress onto the body and secure at the shoulders with the straps.
  6. Place the white cardigan over the dress and lightly stitch it in position.
  7. Sew the shoes onto the feet and center the bows on top.
  8. Attach the curly wool cap to the head, then sew the flower crown over the curls.
  9. Place the strawberry bag strap across the body and secure the bag at the right hip.
  10. Arrange the hat, basket, and watering can beside the finished lamb for the full garden display.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Check the face before tying final knots. The eyes should be level, the muzzle should sit centered, and the ears should angle slightly forward. Use brown embroidery yarn for the nose and mouth. Add small eyebrows and eyelashes to give the lamb the gentle expression shown in the image.

For the cheeks, use a tiny amount of pink yarn or fabric-safe blush. Keep the color very soft. The lamb’s expression should stay calm and sweet, with the flower crown and curly wool framing the face.

Care Notes

  • Spot clean with cool water and mild soap.
  • Do not machine wash if safety eyes, embroidery, or tiny accessories are attached.
  • Press out extra moisture with a towel instead of twisting the doll.
  • Reshape the dress, ears, and flower crown while damp.
  • Let the lamb air dry completely before storing.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The blue dress flares evenly and sits above the knees.
  • The white cardigan is cropped and open at the front.
  • The brown curls are visible around the forehead.
  • The daisy crown includes white, pink, blue, yellow, and the tiny bee.
  • The strawberry bag hangs across the body with a green strap.
  • The blue shoes have beige soles and front bows.
  • The garden props include the blue hat, watering can, and basket.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Store the knitted lamb in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the flower crown flat and avoid stacking heavy items on top of the head. If the curls flatten, lift them gently with your fingers and reshape the loops by hand.

For long-term display, keep the doll on a clean shelf or inside a breathable fabric bag. Do not seal it in plastic if there is any moisture present. Check small sewn pieces occasionally and reinforce any loose flowers, seeds, or bag straps with matching yarn.
