Finished Size

  • Main fairy doll: About 10.5 inches tall from shoes to top of head, not including antennae.
  • Antennae: About 2.25 inches tall each.
  • Wingspan: About 8 inches across.
  • Hat: About 3.5 inches wide across the brim.
  • Flower pot: About 1.5 inches tall.
  • Watering can: About 2 inches wide from handle to spout.

Materials

  • Sport weight yarn in peach, blush pink, medium pink, dusty rose, sage green, cream, straw beige, white, yellow, pale green, dark brown, and light gray-blue.
  • US size 2 knitting needles, or size needed to create a firm doll fabric.
  • US size 1 double-pointed needles for small tubes, antennae, flowers, and straps.
  • Small amount of black embroidery thread for lashes and mouth details.
  • Two 8 mm black safety eyes, or embroidered eyes if making this for a young child.
  • Fiberfill stuffing.
  • Tapestry needle.
  • Stitch markers.
  • Scrap yarn or stitch holders.
  • Optional pipe cleaners for antennae support, used only for display dolls.

Gauge

Gauge is important for a firm knitted toy. Work 28 stitches and 38 rounds in stockinette stitch to measure about 4 inches after light blocking. The fabric should be tight enough that stuffing does not show through.

If your stitches look loose, go down one needle size. If the fabric feels too stiff to shape neatly, go up one needle size. The pattern is written for a small, firm, photo-style knitted doll.

Abbreviations

  • CO: Cast on.
  • BO: Bind off.
  • K: Knit.
  • P: Purl.
  • St or sts: Stitch or stitches.
  • Rnd: Round.
  • RS: Right side.
  • WS: Wrong side.
  • Kfb: Knit into front and back of the same stitch.
  • K2tog: Knit 2 stitches together.
  • SSK: Slip, slip, knit.
  • M1L: Make 1 left increase.
  • M1R: Make 1 right increase.
  • St st: Stockinette stitch.
  • I-cord: Small knitted cord worked by sliding stitches back to the other end of the needle.

Pattern Notes

  • The doll is knitted mostly in the round, from the feet upward, to create a seamless toy body.
  • The head, cap, antennae, wings, cardigan, skirt, bag, shoes, hat, flower pot, and watering can are made separately and sewn together.
  • Use firm stuffing, but do not overstuff the face. A soft rounded face best matches the fairy in the image.
  • The cardigan is worked flat so it can sit open at the front with tiny button details.
  • Floral details are embroidered after knitting. This keeps the cardigan light and decorative like the reference image.
  • All small accessories should be sewn securely if the doll will be handled often.

  • Use black embroidery thread to stitch two small lashes on the outer side of one eye.
  • Add a tiny curved mouth with one short stitch in soft brown or pink thread.

  • Keep the blush circular and soft, placed below and slightly outside each eye.

Care Notes

  • Spot clean only with cool water and a soft cloth.
  • Do not machine wash if the doll has safety eyes, blush, or wired antennae.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

To keep this knitted fairy looking fresh, avoid soaking the finished doll. Use a damp cloth to gently dab any dusty areas, especially around the face, cardigan flowers, and wings.

For long-term display, keep the doll away from strong sunlight because pale pink, peach, and sage green yarns may fade over time. A shaded shelf or covered display case works best.

If the wings flatten during storage, reshape them gently with your fingers. Do not iron the doll directly. Light steam from a distance may help, but only if your yarn label allows it.

Store small accessories separately when transporting the doll. The watering can spout, flower stems, hat bow, and antennae are delicate and should not be pressed under heavier items.

Optional Finishing Touches

  • Add a few extra embroidered leaves to the cardigan for a fuller garden style.
  • Use slightly darker pink yarn around the wing edges for more depth.
  • Make the shoulder bag strap shorter if you want the purse to sit higher.
  • Add a second green stripe near the skirt hem for stronger color contrast.
  • Stitch the hat to the doll’s hand if you want a fixed display pose.

Your pink butterfly fairy is now complete, with her floral cardigan, striped skirt, soft wings, garden accessories, and tiny daisy details ready for a sweet handmade display.
