This Cabbage Patch Gnome Cottage is a detailed crochet garden scene featuring a round cream cottage, a brown arched door, green framed windows, layered cabbage-leaf roof, chimney, tiny gnomes, baskets, vegetables, snails, ladybugs, mushrooms, flower boxes, hanging planters, stepping stones, daisies, signs, and a fenced cabbage patch yard.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Skill Level
This pattern is written for confident beginners to intermediate crocheters. The cottage uses basic amigurumi shaping, flat leaf pieces, small appliques, simple embroidery, and careful assembly. Most parts are worked with a 2.5 mm hook and worsted or DK yarn held firmly for a neat miniature display finish.
- Main techniques: magic ring, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, slip stitch, increases, decreases, front loop only, back loop only, surface details, embroidery, and sewing.
- Finished size: about 10 in wide, 9 in deep, and 8.5 in tall when made with the listed yarn and hook.
- Gauge: 6 sc and 7 rounds measure about 1 in. Exact gauge is less important than keeping all pieces firm.

Pattern Notes
Work amigurumi pieces in continuous rounds unless the pattern says to join. Use a stitch marker at the first stitch of each round. Stuff the cottage wall firmly enough to hold its cylindrical shape, but do not overstuff small garden pieces because they should sit naturally on the base.
The photo has a hand-built miniature look, with rounded crochet shapes and layered texture. For the best match, sew each cabbage roof leaf so the lower edge overlaps the cream cottage wall, then angle the next row slightly upward. The roof should look like a cabbage head opening around the top.

Roof Assembly

Make two vines. Sew one vine around the lower cottage wall beside the door. Sew the other along the left side garden bed near the fence. Add tiny flower knots with yellow, blue, or white yarn.
Extra Cabbage Roof Texture
For the thick handmade look in the photo, add surface crochet or embroidery lines on several roof leaves. Use light green yarn. Work one long straight stitch down each center vein, then add short diagonal stitches. Do not pull too tightly, or the leaf will curl too much.
On the top cabbage rosette, sew the small leaves in a tight overlapping spiral. Add two light green leaves and two darker green leaves at alternating angles. The top should look puffy, layered, and organic.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
- Sew the cottage body to the back-center of the green base, leaving room for the front path and garden beds.
- Sew the door first, then windows, window boxes, vines, and hanging planters.
- Sew the cabbage roof leaves from largest to smallest, securing each base firmly while leaving the leaf tips loose.
- Add the chimney behind the top leaves.
- Sew the fence around the base and place the gate at the front.
- Arrange the stepping stones from the gate to the cottage door.
- Sew soil patches, cabbages, carrots, radishes, baskets, watering can, mushrooms, daisies, snails, and ladybugs in balanced clusters.
- Attach both gnomes last so their feet and chairs sit naturally on the base.
For gnome faces, keep the details simple. The hat brim covers the eyes. The round peach nose sits centered over the white beard. Add two very small cheek stitches with pink yarn if desired, but leave the face mostly hidden for the classic garden gnome look.
Care Notes
- Spot clean only with a soft damp cloth.
- Do not machine wash because the fence, signs, baskets, and roof leaves may bend.
- Keep the cottage away from direct sunlight to protect the green and cream yarn colors.
- Let the piece dry flat if it becomes damp.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The cream cottage body is round, firm, and centered on the garden base.
- The brown arched door has dark hinge stitches and a small knob.
- Three green windows have crossbars and two front flower boxes.
- The roof has large lower leaves, medium upper leaves, and a curled cabbage top.
- The chimney is visible behind the roof.
- The garden includes cabbages, carrots, radishes, leafy greens, baskets, watering can, signs, stones, daisies, mushrooms, snails, ladybugs, and two gnomes.
- The front gate and curved fence frame the whole scene.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Use a clean makeup brush or soft paintbrush to dust between the roof leaves, fence slats, vegetables, and stepping stones. Support delicate pieces with one hand while cleaning with the other. For small marks, dab gently with cool water and mild soap, then blot dry.
Store the cottage in a breathable box with tissue paper around the roof leaves and fence. Do not press the top cabbage rosette flat. Keep heavy objects away from the gnomes, hanging baskets, signs, and mushrooms so the miniature garden keeps its detailed shape.
