Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Finished Size

  • Main seated doll: about 11.5 in / 29 cm tall from bottom to ear tips when using DK yarn and the listed gauge.
  • Body seated height: about 7.5 in / 19 cm from seat to head top.
  • Garden hat: about 4.5 in / 11.5 cm wide.
  • Basket: about 3 in / 7.5 cm wide.
  • Flower pot: about 2.5 in / 6.5 cm tall.

Materials

  • DK weight yarn in medium gray, cream, pale pink, sage green, ivory, tan, red, yellow, white, olive green, and a tiny amount of black.
  • US 3 / 3.25 mm knitting needles for main pieces.
  • US 2 / 2.75 mm needles for smaller flowers, leaves, and embroidered details.
  • Polyester fiberfill.
  • Tapestry needle.
  • Stitch markers.
  • Small amount of black embroidery floss for pupils, nostrils, and eyelids.
  • Optional removable stitch markers or pins for positioning parts before sewing.

Gauge

Work at a firm toy-making gauge so the stuffing does not show through. In stockinette stitch, 24 stitches and 34 rows should measure about 4 in / 10 cm after light blocking. Exact gauge is less important than firm fabric, but matching the gauge will keep the proportions close to the pictured doll.

  • Sts: stitches.

  • Garter st: knit every row.

Construction Notes

This pattern is written for knitted pieces worked mostly flat and seamed. The doll has a soft sculpted look because the head, muzzle, body, limbs, clothing, shoes, and accessories are made separately, lightly stuffed, and sewn together in layers.

Use mattress stitch for neat side seams. When sewing toy parts, work slowly and keep the seam firm but not tight. The pictured style has visible hand-knit texture, rounded shaping, and slightly oversized accessories, so do not press the pieces completely flat.

  • The head is gray with a separate cream muzzle panel sewn onto the lower front.
  • The ears are long, upright, and slightly curved, with pink inner panels and gray edging.
  • The body wears a cream sweater under sage green overalls.
  • The legs are gray, with sage shoes and cream ankle straps.
  • The bag, basket, hat, flowers, strawberries, and daisy pot are separate small knitted pieces.

Main Head

Work the head in medium gray. The shape is tall and softly oval, wider at the cheeks and narrower at the top where the ears attach. Make 2 side panels and one center strip for a rounded toy head.

Cream Muzzle

The muzzle is a large rounded cream oval that covers the lower front of the head. It should sit forward like a soft donkey snout and overlap the gray face by about one-third of the head height.

Sew each pink inner ear centered on one gray outer ear. With gray yarn, pick up and knit approximately 42 sts evenly around the edge of each ear. Knit 2 rounds or rows in garter-style edging if working flat, then BO firmly. Fold the lower 5 rows of each ear slightly inward and stitch to create a narrow base.

Body With Cream Sweater

The body is short and rounded because the doll is seated. The upper body is covered by a cream sweater, while the sage green overalls sit over the lower body. Knit the body core first, then add clothing panels.

Fold the body piece with RS together and sew the side seam. Gather the bottom edge, stuff the body firmly, then gather the top edge. Flatten the bottom slightly so the doll can sit. Sew the head to the body with the muzzle facing forward and the neck tucked under the chin.

Seam each arm from tip to top. Stuff lightly so the arms remain soft and bend naturally. Place one sleeve over each arm. Sew arms to the sides of the sweater, angling them slightly inward toward the lap.

Legs

The legs are gray and visible between the overalls and shoes. They are short, seated legs, with the knees angled forward and the feet placed side by side.

  1. Make 2. CO 10 sts in gray.

Sage Overalls

The overalls cover the lower body and rise to the chest. The front bib is decorated with tiny knitted strawberries, white flowers, and green vine embroidery. The straps cross over the shoulders, just like the pictured garden outfit.

Daisy Hair Flower

A white daisy with a yellow center and two green leaves sits near the base of one ear. It should overlap the head and ear seam, giving the doll a garden-themed finish.

  • Sew olive green leaf caps to the tops.
  • Place the strawberries inside the basket and secure them with hidden stitches.
  • Add 2 white daisies to the front of the basket, each with a yellow center.

  3. Knit the body, stuff it, and sew it to the head.
  4. Make the arms, sleeves, legs, and shoes. Attach them to create the seated pose.
  5. Add the overalls, bib, straps, and embroidered garden decorations.
  6. Sew the crossbody bag in place after the clothing is complete.
  7. Add eyes, nostrils, eyelids, and all final facial embroidery.
  8. Finish the hair daisy, hat, strawberry basket, and potted daisies.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Before final stitching, pin every feature in place and view the doll from the front. The muzzle should sit low and centered. The eyes should tilt gently inward. The ears should be tall, open, and slightly curved. Adjust these features before sewing firmly.

Use black yarn for the eye outlines, pupils, nostrils, and small expressive details. Keep the stitches smooth and flat. Add tiny white highlight stitches to the pupils last. These small highlights help the face look bright while keeping the sleepy garden-doll expression.

Care Notes

  • Spot clean with cool water and mild soap.
  • Do not machine wash if the doll has delicate sewn flowers or embroidered details.
  • Let the doll air dry flat on a towel.
  • Keep away from rough play if made as a display doll.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The head is firmly stuffed but still rounded.
  • The muzzle is centered and softly raised.
  • Both ears stand tall with visible pink centers.
  • The sweater sleeves sit evenly on both arms.
  • The overalls have strawberries, flowers, and vines on the front.
  • The shoes have straps and tiny flower details.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Store the doll in a dry place away from direct sunlight so the soft yarn colors stay fresh. If dust collects on the flowers, bag, hat, or basket, use a clean soft brush and gently sweep along the direction of the stitches.

For long-term display, place the doll upright with light support behind the body. Do not hang it by the ears or bag strap. Reshape the ears, hat brim, and basket handle by hand after cleaning so the garden scene keeps its original handmade look.
