Create a cozy woodland book nook library with a hollow log room, leafy roof, tiny mushrooms, berries, shelves of colorful books, glowing lamps, reading chairs, a fox librarian, and small forest friends enjoying books outside. This crochet scene includes a green oval rug base, stone path, book cart, library sign, stump mailbox, tea cups, stacked books, and detailed miniature furniture.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Finished Size
- Complete scene: about 14 in wide, 10 in deep, and 10 in tall when made with worsted weight yarn and a 3.0 mm hook.
- Hollow log library: about 11 in wide, 6 in deep, and 7 in tall.
- Fox librarian: about 4 in tall.
- Small animals: about 2.25 to 3 in tall.
Skill Level
Intermediate amigurumi and miniature crochet. This pattern uses continuous rounds, short rows, shaping, surface crochet, small appliques, and many sewn details. Beginners can still follow it slowly because every main shape is broken into small pieces.
Materials
- Worsted weight yarn in bark brown, dark brown, tan, moss green, olive green, light green, forest green, orange, rust orange, white, cream, gray, light gray, charcoal, red, burgundy, purple, pink, blue, teal, yellow, gold, black, and small amounts of book colors.
- 3.0 mm crochet hook for firm amigurumi pieces.
- 3.5 mm crochet hook for the oval base and leafy rug texture.
- Polyester fiberfill.
- Plastic canvas or firm cardboard for the log wall, shelves, book cart, and sign.
- 6 mm black safety eyes for the fox, hedgehog, owl, and mouse.

Important Construction Notes
This design is worked as a display scene. The large log is not a closed stuffed toy. It is a firm crocheted shell with an open arched front, a flat interior floor, a back wall, two side walls, and a rounded bark roof. The front edge is thick and rounded to match the image.
Use tight tension so the pieces hold their shape. If your crochet is loose, go down to a 2.75 mm hook for the figures and a 3.0 mm hook for the log. For a stable display, insert plastic canvas inside the log panels before final sewing.
Gauge
- Amigurumi gauge: 6 sc and 7 rounds equal 1 in with 3.0 mm hook.
- Base gauge: 5 sc and 5 rounds equal 1 in with 3.5 mm hook.
- Exact gauge is less important than firm fabric and matching proportions between pieces.
Part 1: Large Oval Green Forest Base
The base is a soft oval lawn rug. It sits under the log and extends forward so the hedgehog, owl, mouse, tea cups, path, and book cart can stand in front of the library.
Oval Lawn Base

Sew this rug to the center of the library floor before attaching the fox.
Part 22: Assembly Order
- Sew the back wall, floor, and side walls together first. The shape should be a firm open room.
- Wrap the bark roof and side piece around the room. Sew securely along the back, side, and bottom edges.
- Sew the padded front arch to the open edge of the log.
- Add bark ridges, knots, and texture lines to the outside of the log.
- Sew the leafy roof garland across the top front edge, sides, and roof corners.
- Add mushrooms, berries, fern leaves, and the stump chimney to the roof.
- Sew the shelves, lamps, chairs, rug, and books inside the library.
- Sew the fox librarian to the center rug and attach the open book to its paws.
- Sew the log library to the back half of the large green base.
- Attach the stone path from the doorway toward the front right.
- Sew the hedgehog, owl, and mouse to the lawn in front of the library.
- Add the book cart, sign, stump drop box, tea cups, stacked books, and library card.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Use pins before sewing the final pieces. The fox should stand centered inside the arched library opening. The gold chair sits to the left, the gray chair to the right, and the shelves should be visible behind them. Keep the lamps close to the chairs so the interior looks warm and balanced.
For faces, keep the embroidery small and gentle. Add white highlights beside the fox eyes if desired. The hedgehog, owl, and mouse should face slightly toward their books so the front scene looks like a peaceful reading circle.
- Embroider the fox nose with black yarn in a small triangle.
- Add short mouth lines under the animal noses.
- Add pink cheek stitches to the mouse and optional soft tan cheeks to the owl.
- Secure all books with small hidden stitches so they stay upright.
Care Notes
This project is best used as a display piece. Because it includes small books, signs, cups, mushrooms, and tiny animals, it is not suitable for children under 3 years old. Keep it away from rough handling and moisture.
- Spot clean only with a damp cloth.
- Do not machine wash because the log contains firm inserts.
- Let the piece air dry completely before storing.
- Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The hollow log has a strong arched front opening.
- The roof is covered with layered green leaves, berries, red mushrooms, and a stump chimney.
- The inside has two shelves, colorful books, two chairs, two lamps, and a center rug.
- The fox librarian has glasses, a green vest, white muzzle, tail, and an open book.
- The front lawn has a hedgehog, owl, mouse, book cart, stone path, tea cups, sign, stacked books, stump drop box, and library card.
- All pieces are sewn firmly and stand neatly on the oval green base.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
To preserve the shape, store the woodland library upright in a dust-free box. Place tissue paper inside the log opening so the arch does not press inward during storage. Do not stack heavy items on top of the leafy roof.
For dust, use a soft makeup brush or a cool hair dryer on the lowest setting. If a leaf or book bends, gently reshape it with your fingers. Avoid pulling on the small stitched details, especially the fox glasses, sign lettering, mouse tail, and mushroom spots.
With careful handling, this woodland book nook fox library will remain a charming handmade display for seasonal decor, nursery shelves, craft fairs, reading corners, and cozy crochet collections.
