This Garden Elephant Flower Helper Doll is a sweet blue elephant amigurumi with oversized rounded ears, a long stitched trunk, an orange garden cap with a blue pom-pom, cream vest, sage waistband, dusty rose shorts, flower embroidery, sandals, a yellow crossbody watering-can pouch, two sunflower pots, and a striped round garden accessory.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Finished Size
The finished elephant measures about 10 to 11 inches tall when made with worsted weight cotton yarn and a 3.0 mm hook. The size may change slightly depending on yarn thickness, stuffing firmness, and personal tension.
- Main elephant height: about 10.5 inches
- Head width with ears: about 9 inches
- Body width: about 4.5 inches
- Sunflower pot height: about 2.5 inches
- Striped round accessory: about 3.5 inches wide
Skill Level
This pattern is written for confident beginners to intermediate crocheters. Most pieces use single crochet in continuous rounds, simple shaping, basic color changes, embroidery, and sewing. Take your time with the ears, clothing edges, and small accessories because these details create the exact garden-helper look.

Gauge and Texture Notes
Use a tight gauge so the stuffing does not show through. The doll in the image has firm, even stitches with a soft rounded shape. If your stitches are loose, go down half a hook size. If the fabric feels stiff and hard to shape, go up half a hook size.
The elephant is designed with a large head, a rounded pear-shaped body, short arms, thick legs, oversized ears, and a long trunk that narrows toward the end. Stuff the head firmly, the body medium-firm, and the ears lightly or not at all so they remain soft and slightly curved.
Important Construction Notes
- Work most amigurumi pieces in continuous rounds unless the pattern says otherwise.
- Use a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round.
- Stuff gradually while crocheting, especially the head, body, trunk, legs, and arms.
- Keep color changes neat by making the last yarn-over of the previous stitch with the new color.
- Pin all parts before sewing so the elephant stands straight and the face matches the photo.
Main Head
Use sky blue yarn. The head is large and rounded, with the front slightly elongated where the trunk will be attached. Stuff firmly so the eye area stays smooth.

Long Elephant Trunk
The trunk starts wide at the face and narrows toward the rounded tip. It should hang down the center of the face and body, ending just below the cream top. The photo shows black X stitches down the front of the trunk.

- R25: sc 6, inc, repeat around. (24)
- R26-R27: sc around. (24)
- FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Stuff the trunk lightly at the narrow tip and more firmly near the wide base. Do not overstuff, because the trunk should curve naturally downward. Sew the wide end vertically onto the center front of the head, beginning between the eye area and ending at the lower face.
Trunk Embroidery
- Using black embroidery thread, stitch five small X marks down the front center of the trunk.
- Space each X about 3 rounds apart.
- Make the top X slightly wider and the lower X marks smaller to follow the taper.
- Add one tiny curved stitch near the lower tip if you want a soft smile-like crease.
Large Eye Whites
The eyes in the image are large white ovals with black pupils placed close together above the trunk. Make two identical eye whites with white yarn.
- Ch 5.
- R1: Starting in second ch from hook, sc 3, 3 sc in last ch, work on other side of chain, sc 2, inc in last ch. (10)
- R2: inc, sc 2, inc 3, sc 2, inc 2. (16)
- R3: sc 1, inc, sc 3, inc, sc 1, inc, sc 3, inc, sc 2, inc, sc 1. (21)
- Sl st to finish, FO, leaving a sewing tail.
Sew the two white ovals above the trunk, touching or nearly touching at the center. Attach one black bead or safety eye to the upper center of each white oval. The pupils should sit slightly high, giving the elephant a cute surprised expression.
Large Elephant Ears
The ears are oversized, rounded triangular shapes with soft corners. The photo shows wide blue ears with a slightly cupped shape and a lavender shaded center. Make two.

- Flatten the circle. Do not stuff.
- Fold slightly so the lower edge forms a soft point.
- Sc through both layers across 18 sts, leaving the upper rounded part open and soft.
- FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Ear Inner Shading
To match the photo, add a subtle lavender patch inside each ear. With lavender yarn and a tapestry needle, embroider loose satin stitches in an oval shape on the inner lower center of each ear. Keep the edges soft, not perfectly outlined.
Sew the ears to the left and right sides of the head at rounds 13 to 19. Angle each ear outward and slightly upward. The bottom corner should sit close to the side of the head, while the top rounded edge opens wide.
Body With Clothing Color Blocks
The body is worked as one piece with visible clothing stripes: cream upper shirt, sage green garden band, and dusty rose shorts. The shape is rounded and wider at the bottom, like the photo.

Shorts Leg Opening Detail
The dusty rose shorts appear rounded with two separate leg openings. To create this look, hold the body upside down. Join dusty rose yarn at the lower front center of R8. Surface sl st around the left lower half for 18 sts, then repeat on the right side for 18 sts.
- Add one round of sc around each leg opening if you want thicker shorts cuffs.
- Keep the center gap visible so the blue legs can attach under the shorts.
- Do not make the cuffs too long; the image shows simple soft edges.
Blue Legs
Make two legs in sky blue. They are short and sturdy, visible below the dusty rose shorts and above the sandals.
- R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
- R2: inc around. (12)
- R3: sc 1, inc, repeat around. (18)
- R4-R10: sc around. (18)
- Stuff firmly.
- R11: sc 1, dec, repeat around. (12)
- R12: sc around. (12)
- FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Sew the legs under the body, spaced about 6 stitches apart at the front. The legs should point slightly outward, allowing the sandals to sit flat and visible.
Blue Arms
The arms are simple rounded tubes. They sit below the cream shirt and hang at the sides, slightly curved inward.
- R1: With sky blue, 6 sc in MR. (6)
- R2: inc around. (12)
- R3: sc 3, inc, repeat around. (15)
- R4-R11: sc around. (15)
- Stuff lightly, keeping the top flatter.
- R12: sc 3, dec, repeat around. (12)
- R13: flatten opening and sc through both layers across 6 sts.
- FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Sew the arms to the sides of the body at the upper cream section, around rounds 26 to 29 of the body. Angle the hands downward. The right arm should sit near the yellow crossbody pouch strap.
Orange Garden Cap
The cap sits on top of the head and covers the upper back portion, with a ribbed edge and a blue pom-pom. The orange cap gives the elephant the same cozy garden-helper look shown in the photo.
- R1: With orange, 6 sc in MR. (6)
- R2: inc around. (12)
- R3: sc 1, inc, repeat around. (18)
- R4: sc 2, inc, repeat around. (24)
- R5: sc 3, inc, repeat around. (30)
- R6: sc 4, inc, repeat around. (36)
- R7: sc 5, inc, repeat around. (42)
- R8-R11: sc around. (42)
- R12: BLO sc around. (42)
- R13: sc around. (42)
- R14: sl st around loosely for a neat edge.
- FO, leaving a long tail if you want to sew the cap in place.
Cap Ribbed Band
Join orange yarn to the front lower edge of the cap. Ch 5. Starting in second ch from hook, sc 4, sl st into next 2 stitches along cap edge. Turn. Work BLO sc 4 back up the small strip. Continue around the front half of the cap for a ribbed band.
Stop when the ribbing reaches from one eye side to the other. FO and sew the last rib neatly to the cap. This creates the thicker orange forehead band visible above the eyes.
Blue Pom-Pom
- With sky blue yarn, wrap yarn around two fingers 35 times.
- Tie tightly in the middle with a separate strand.
- Cut the loops and trim into a small round pom-pom.
- Sew securely to the top center of the orange cap.
Cream Vest and Shoulder Shape
The cream upper section is already worked into the body, but the photo shows a vest-like garment with slight straps near the shoulders. Add this surface detail after the body and head are joined.
- Join cream yarn at the front left shoulder area.
- Surface sl st down the left front edge for 10 sts.
- Repeat on the right side, leaving the center open under the trunk.
- Work one row of sc along the top shoulder edge if the neckline needs more definition.
- Keep the vest soft and simple so it does not cover the trunk.
Flower Embroidery on Clothing
The image shows small floral embroidery on the cream vest and sage green band. Use thin yarn or embroidery floss and keep the flowers small. The embroidery should look handmade, soft, and slightly scattered.
Right Chest Flower
- Use pink yarn for one small flower on the right side of the cream vest.
- Make 5 lazy daisy stitches around a tiny center.
- Add a yellow or white French knot in the middle.
- Use green thread for a short stem and two leaves.

Left Waist Flower Cluster
- On the left side of the sage green band, stitch one pink flower, one yellow flower, and one lavender flower.
- Each flower uses 4 or 5 small petal stitches.
- Add two green stems rising upward from the band.
- Keep the cluster about 1 inch wide.
Sandals
The sandals have cream straps, dark brown soles, and pink flower decorations near the outer sides. The toes are blue with small pastel toe stitches visible at the front.
Sandal Soles Make Two

- R3: sc 1, inc, sc 6, sc 1, inc, sc 1, inc, sc 6, sc 1, inc, sc 1. (27)
- Change to cream.
- R4: BLO sc around. (27)
- FO, leaving a tail.
Sandal Front Strap
- Join cream yarn to the left side of the sole near the front.
- Ch 9, stretch across the blue foot, and sl st to the opposite side.
- Work 9 sc back across the chain to thicken the strap.
- FO and secure the ends inside the sandal.
Toe Details
- Use pink and mint yarn to make three tiny oval stitches on each blue foot at the front of the sandal.
- Place the stitches side by side like little toes.
- Do not make them too large; they should sit just above the dark sole.
Small Sandal Flowers
- With pink yarn and 2.5 mm hook, make 5 sc in MR.
- Sl st to first sc.
- Ch 2, sl st in same st, repeat in each stitch to make 5 tiny petals.
- FO and sew one flower to the outer side of each sandal strap.
- Add a yellow center stitch.
Sew one sandal to the bottom of each leg. Angle the sandals slightly outward, matching the relaxed pose in the photo.
Yellow Crossbody Watering-Can Pouch
The yellow pouch hangs diagonally across the body, with a thin strap from the left shoulder to the right hip. It looks like a tiny watering can or garden helper bag with brown circular detail on the front.
Pouch Body
- With yellow, ch 11.
- R1: Starting in second ch from hook, sc 9, 3 sc in last ch, work on other side, sc 8, inc in last ch. (22)

- Add a second surface sl st line near the bottom.
Brown Front Circle
- With brown, 6 sc in MR. (6)
- R2: inc around. (12)
- Sl st to finish and FO.
- Sew to the lower front center of the yellow pouch.

- Starting in second ch from hook, sl st across the full chain.
- FO, leaving tails for sewing.
- Sew one end near the upper left shoulder and the other end to the pouch side.
- Let the strap run diagonally across the cream vest and sage band.
Sew the pouch to the right side of the body over the dusty rose shorts. Keep the pouch slightly tilted, just like a small garden bag hanging from the shoulder.
Sunflower Pots Make Two
The image includes two small sunflower pots beside the elephant. One pot is darker terracotta and one is soft brown. Each has a tall green stem and a bright yellow sunflower with a dark brown center.

Make one sunflower slightly taller by adding 2 extra chains to its stem. Place the pots beside the doll as photo props or sew them to a small base if you prefer a fixed display piece.
Striped Round Garden Accessory
The striped round piece in the photo looks like a soft garden hat or round pouch placed beside the elephant. It uses cream, mint, dusty rose, and pale peach stripes, with two small yellow bee buttons on the front.

- Sl st to finish and FO.
- Use black thread to stitch two tiny horizontal stripes on each yellow circle.
- Add two small black antenna stitches at the top.
- Sew both bees onto the front of the striped accessory.
Optional Small Flower Appliques
Use these tiny flowers for the vest, sandals, or extra decoration around the scene. They are quick and help match the sweet garden style of the original photo.
- With any flower color, 5 sc in MR.
- Sl st to close.
- Ch 2, sl st in same stitch.
- Repeat ch 2, sl st in each stitch around for 5 petals.
- FO, leaving a tail for sewing.
- Add a small yellow stitch to the center.
Joining the Head and Body
Place the body upright. Position the head so the trunk hangs directly down the center front. The lower trunk should overlap the cream top and point toward the sage band. Pin the head before sewing to make sure both ears are even.
- Use the long cream body tail or a fresh strand of sky blue yarn.
- Sew the body opening to the lower center of the head over 18 to 24 stitches.
- Go around the neck twice for strength.
- Add extra stuffing into the neck before fully closing.
- Check that the doll does not lean forward from the weight of the trunk.
Facial Features
The face should look gentle, round, and slightly curious. Keep the eyes close together and high above the trunk. The large ears frame the head and help create the playful elephant shape.
- Sew the white eye ovals first, then add the black pupils.
- Place the pupils slightly toward the upper center of each white oval.
- Use black thread to make one tiny vertical line between the eyes if desired.
- Add a small curved mouth line at the base of the trunk only if you want more expression.
- Do not add tusks, because the pictured elephant does not show visible tusks.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Attach the ears firmly on both sides of the head, then place the orange cap behind and above the eyes. Sew the cap lightly around the back edge so it stays in place but does not flatten the head.
Sew the arms to the cream upper body, then attach the legs under the shorts. Add sandals last so you can adjust the foot angle. The doll should have a relaxed standing pose with the toes and sandal flowers visible from the front.
Add the yellow strap diagonally from the left shoulder across the chest. Sew the yellow pouch near the right hip. Make sure the strap lies over the cream vest and sage band, just like the garden helper accessory in the photo.
Finish the clothing by stitching the small flower embroidery. Use short, neat stitches and avoid pulling too tightly. The embroidery should sit flat on the surface without puckering the crochet fabric.
Care Notes
- Spot clean gently with cool water and mild soap.
- Do not twist or wring the doll.
- Press out extra moisture with a towel.
- Let the doll air dry flat in a shaded place.
- Keep the pom-pom, embroidered flowers, and small bee buttons away from rough handling.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The trunk is centered and has five black X stitches.
- The white eyes are close together above the trunk.
- The ears are large, rounded, and angled outward.
- The orange cap has a blue pom-pom on top.
- The body shows cream, sage green, and dusty rose color blocks.
- The yellow crossbody pouch hangs at the right hip.
- The sandals have cream straps, dark soles, pink flowers, and toe details.
- The two sunflower pots and striped round accessory are complete.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
For long-term display, keep the elephant away from direct sunlight to prevent color fading. Store it in a dry place with good airflow. If dust collects on the surface, use a soft brush and gently sweep in the direction of the stitches.
If the doll needs deeper cleaning, dab only the stained area with a damp cloth. Avoid soaking pieces with embroidery, safety eyes, or pom-poms. Reshape the ears, trunk, cap, and sandals while damp, then let everything dry completely before storing.
When storing the full set, place the sunflower pots and striped accessory beside the doll rather than pressing them against the face. This helps preserve the rounded ears, soft trunk, and raised clothing details.
