Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Pattern Overview

This pattern is written in US crochet terms and is designed for a finished doll about 13–15 inches tall when made with sport or light DK yarn and a 2.25 mm crochet hook. The reindeer has a long oval head, rounded body, slim limbs, large ears, tall textured antlers, and many Christmas accessories.

The doll is worked mostly in continuous rounds. Use a stitch marker at the first stitch of every round. Stuff firmly but not so hard that the stitches stretch. Shape the muzzle, ears, antlers, and clothing carefully during assembly, because these pieces create the exact festive character shown in the photo.

Materials

  • Yarn: Light DK or sport weight cotton or cotton-blend yarn.
  • Main body color: warm tan or light camel.
  • Muzzle and nose: bright Christmas red.
  • Antlers: dark brown.
  • Sweater: emerald green, red, and white.
  • Overalls: denim blue.
  • Accessories: green, red, white, yellow, gold, black, small scraps of blue and orange.
  • Hook: 2.25 mm for the doll and accessories.
  • Optional smaller hook: 1.75–2.00 mm for tiny lights and holly pieces.
  • Eyes: two 10–12 mm safety eyes or black domed eyes.
  • Stuffing: polyester fiberfill.
  • Other supplies: yarn needle, pins, scissors, stitch markers, two small wooden-look buttons, fabric glue if desired.

Abbreviations

  • MR: magic ring
  • ch: chain
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sc: single crochet
  • hdc: half double crochet
  • dc: double crochet
  • inc: 2 sc in the same stitch
  • dec: invisible decrease over 2 stitches
  • BLO: back loop only
  • FLO: front loop only
  • FO: fasten off
  • st/sts: stitch/stitches
  • R: round or row

Gauge and Finished Size

Gauge is not critical, but tight stitches are important for a clean amigurumi finish. With a 2.25 mm hook, 6 sc across should measure about 1 inch. If your stitches show stuffing, use a smaller hook. If the fabric becomes too stiff, use a slightly larger hook.

The finished doll is approximately 13–15 inches tall from sandals to antler tips. The body is about one third of the height, the long reindeer head is slightly larger than the body, and the antlers add extra height and width. The accessories are intentionally small and decorative.

Color and Construction Notes

  • The head and body are crocheted separately, then sewn together firmly.
  • The big red muzzle is an oval applique with light stuffing underneath.
  • The eye patches are white oval pieces sewn above the muzzle.
  • The antlers are crocheted as slim tubes with branches and sewn high on the head.
  • The sweater is built into the upper body with decorative surface stitches.
  • The overalls are separate pieces sewn around the body and legs.
  • The hat, bag, gifts, ornaments, holly, and lights are removable-looking but sewn securely.

Head

Use warm tan yarn. The head is long and oval, wider near the muzzle and slightly narrower at the top. Stuff gradually and firmly. Do not flatten the face; the front should stay rounded so the red muzzle can sit proudly on top.

Red Oval Muzzle

Use bright red yarn. This piece creates the large Rudolph-style front face. Work it as a flattened oval, not a round ball. Lightly stuff underneath while sewing so it rises from the tan face but still looks smooth and neat.

  1. Ch 9.
  2. R1: Starting in second ch from hook, sc 7, 3 sc in last ch. Work on the other side of the chain, sc 6, inc in last ch. (18)
  3. R2: inc, sc 6, inc in next 3 sts, sc 6, inc in next 2 sts. (24)
  4. R3: sc 1, inc, sc 6, repeat sc 1, inc three times, sc 6, repeat sc 1, inc twice. (30)
  5. R4: sc 2, inc, sc 6, repeat sc 2, inc three times, sc 6, repeat sc 2, inc twice. (36)
  6. R5: sc around. (36)
  7. R6: sc 10, hdc 8, sc 18. (36)
  8. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Pin the muzzle horizontally across the lower front of the head, from about R13 to R20. The widest part should face forward. Add a thin layer of stuffing under the center. Sew around the edge using small stitches. Keep the edge smooth and do not pull too tightly.

White Eye Patches

Make two pieces in white. These are oval patches placed above the red muzzle, slightly touching in the center. The safety eyes sit inside these patches, giving the reindeer a surprised, cute holiday expression like the image.

  1. Ch 5.
  2. R1: Starting in second ch from hook, sc 3, 3 sc in last ch. Work on the other side, sc 2, inc in last ch. (10)
  3. R2: inc, sc 2, inc in next 3 sts, sc 2, inc in next 2 sts. (16)
  4. R3: sc around. (16)
  5. FO, leaving a sewing tail.

Place the patches above the red muzzle with a small gap between them. Insert the safety eyes slightly low and centered in each patch before attaching, or sew black/domed eyes afterward. Sew the patches flat. Add a tiny black yarn stitch above each eye if you want a stronger cartoon expression.

Body with Green Sweater Base

The body begins in tan for the lower torso, changes to blue for the hidden shorts area, then green for the sweater. The visible outfit will later be covered by blue overalls, but this base helps the doll look complete from every angle.

  1. With tan, R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. R2: inc around. (12)
  3. R3: sc 1, inc; repeat around. (18)
  4. R4: sc 2, inc; repeat around. (24)

  10. Change to emerald green.
  11. R17: BLO sc around. (36)
  12. R18–R23: sc around. (36)
  13. R24: sc 4, dec; repeat around. (30)
  14. R25: sc around. (30)
  15. R26: sc 3, dec; repeat around. (24)
  16. R27: sc around. (24)
  17. R28: sc 2, dec; repeat around. (18)
  18. Stuff firmly. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing the head.

Sweater Yoke Decoration

The sweater in the photo has a green body, a red and white Christmas yoke, and small white motifs. Use surface slip stitches and short embroidered lines rather than carrying many colors through the whole body. This keeps the amigurumi smooth and beginner-friendly.

  • With red yarn, surface sl st around body R21 and R22 to create a red band across the upper chest and shoulders.
  • With white yarn, embroider small V stitches, X stitches, and short vertical dashes evenly around the red band.
  • With white yarn, add tiny snowflake crosses on both sleeves after the arms are attached.
  • With green yarn, tidy any visible joins so the sweater looks seamless.

Legs

Make two legs. Start with tan hooves and lower legs, then change to denim blue for the pant legs. The legs are short and straight, with visible tan ankles below rolled blue cuffs.

  1. With tan, R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. R2: inc around. (12)
  3. R3: sc 1, inc; repeat around. (18)
  4. R4–R7: sc around. (18)
  5. Change to denim blue.
  6. R8: BLO sc around. (18)
  7. R9–R15: sc around. (18)
  8. Stuff the lower leg firmly and the top lightly.
  9. Flatten the top and sc 9 through both layers to close.
  10. FO, leaving a sewing tail.

Rolled Overall Cuffs

  • Join denim blue yarn to the front loop left at R8 of each leg.
  • Ch 1, hdc around in each front loop. Sl st to join.
  • Repeat one more round of hdc for a thick rolled cuff.
  • FO and weave in ends.

📌Thank you for reading the article

Sew the legs to the lower front of the body with a small gap between them. Angle them slightly outward so the sandals sit naturally. The blue cuffs should be close to the bottom of the overalls, while the tan ankles remain visible.

Arms

Make two arms. The hands are tan, and the sleeves are green. The arms hang at the sides with a relaxed curve. Do not overstuff the upper sleeves, or they will stick out too far from the body.

  1. With tan, R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. R2: sc 1, inc; repeat around. (9)
  3. R3–R5: sc around. (9)
  4. Change to green.
  5. R6: BLO sc around. (9)
  6. R7–R17: sc around. (9)
  7. Stuff the hand firmly and sleeve lightly.
  8. Flatten the top and sc 4 through both layers to close.
  9. FO, leaving a sewing tail.

Sew the arms to the body at R24–R25, directly under the head seam. The hands should reach the upper thigh area. Add red and white embroidered snowflake stitches on the outer sleeves, matching the festive pattern shown on the sweater.

Denim Blue Overalls

The overalls are worked as a separate garment over the body. They should cover the lower torso, sit high on the chest, and include two straps with small buttons. The photo shows a neat bib front, straight pant shape, and rolled cuffs.

Overall Bib and Waist Panel

  1. With denim blue, ch 37.
  2. R1: Starting in second ch from hook, sc 36. Ch 1, turn.
  3. R2–R8: sc across. (36)
  4. Wrap this panel around the lower body at the waist and sew the back seam neatly.

Front Bib

  1. Join denim blue yarn at the center front top of the waist panel.
  2. R1: sc 14 across the front center. Ch 1, turn.
  3. R2–R8: sc 14. Ch 1, turn after each row.
  4. R9: dec, sc 10, dec. (12)
  5. FO and weave in the end.

Shoulder Straps

  • Make two straps in denim blue.
  • Ch 24 for each strap.
  • Starting in second ch from hook, sc 23.
  • FO, leaving tails for sewing.
  • Sew one end of each strap to the top corners of the front bib.
  • Cross the straps lightly over the shoulders or keep them straight, then sew to the back waist panel.
  • Sew one small button at each front strap base.

Use red yarn to add a thin diagonal strap for the shoulder bag later. Place this strap over the overalls and sweater, from the doll’s left shoulder to the right hip, just like the photo.

Sandals with Red Flower Details

Make two sandal soles in tan and brown. The sandals are open at the top, with red flower decorations near the toes. They should sit flat under the legs and look like handmade summer sandals worn with the Christmas outfit.

Sandal Sole

  1. With tan, ch 7.
  2. R1: Starting in second ch from hook, sc 5, 3 sc in last ch, work on the other side, sc 4, inc. (14)
  3. R2: inc, sc 4, inc in next 3 sts, sc 4, inc in next 2 sts. (20)
  4. Change to brown.
  5. R3: BLO sc around. (20)
  6. FO, leaving a sewing tail.

Sandal Strap and Flower

  • For each sandal strap, use brown yarn and ch 9.
  • Sew the chain across the front of the foot, from one side of the sole to the other.
  • For each red flower, make MR, ch 2, sl st into MR five times.
  • Pull the ring tight and sew the flower to the outer front of each sandal.

Sew the sandals under the tan feet. Keep the brown edge visible around the sole. The flowers should sit near the outer toe area, facing forward. Add a tiny yellow stitch in the center of each flower if desired.

Ears

Make two ears in tan. The ears are long, oval, and slightly pointed, placed low beside the antlers. They should stick out horizontally and angle slightly downward, giving the reindeer a sweet handmade expression.

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. R2: sc 1, inc; repeat around. (9)
  3. R3: sc 2, inc; repeat around. (12)
  4. R4: sc 3, inc; repeat around. (15)
  5. R5–R8: sc around. (15)
  6. R9: sc 3, dec; repeat around. (12)
  7. R10: sc 2, dec; repeat around. (9)
  8. Do not stuff. Flatten and sc 4 through both layers.
  9. FO, leaving a long sewing tail.

Pin the ears on the sides of the head around R12–R15, slightly behind the eye patches. Sew the base securely and curve the ear downward with one hidden stitch at the back edge.

Antlers

Use dark brown yarn. The antlers are tall, rounded tubes with branch pieces. Stuff very lightly so they hold shape without becoming bulky. Insert a pipe cleaner only if the finished doll is for display and not for a young child.

Main Antler Stems

  1. Make two. R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. R2–R18: sc around. (6)
  3. Stuff lightly as you go.
  4. FO, leaving a long tail.

Antler Branches

  • Make four medium branches: R1 5 sc in MR, R2–R8 sc around. FO.
  • Make two short branches: R1 5 sc in MR, R2–R5 sc around. FO.
  • Sew two medium branches and one short branch to each main stem.
  • Place one branch near the top, one branch at the middle, and one shorter branch closer to the base.

Sew the finished antlers to the top sides of the head around R7–R10. Angle them outward and slightly backward. Use many firm stitches through the base so they stand upright. The antlers should frame the head and leave space for the yarn hair and holly.

Yarn Hair Tufts

The photo shows messy tan-brown hair strands between the antlers. Cut 24–30 strands of tan or light brown yarn, each about 4 inches long. Fold each strand in half and attach with a lark’s head knot along the top center of the head.

  • Place the first row between the antler bases.
  • Add a second shorter row slightly forward.
  • Trim the strands unevenly so they look playful and spiky.
  • Separate the yarn plies gently for a soft, fluffy texture.

Holly Leaves and Berries

The holly decoration sits near one antler and in the hair area. Use green for leaves and red for berries. Keep these pieces small so they look like festive accents rather than covering the reindeer’s face.

Holly Leaves

  1. With green, ch 7.
  2. Starting in second ch from hook, sl st, sc, hdc, sc, sl st, sl st.
  3. Ch 1, work on the other side of the chain: sl st, sc, hdc, sc, sl st, sl st.
  4. FO with a long tail.
  5. Make three leaves.

Berries

  1. With red, R1: 5 sc in MR. (5)
  2. R2: sc around. (5)
  3. FO and close tightly.
  4. Make three berries.

Sew the leaves in a small fan shape at the front base of one antler. Sew the berries together in the center of the leaves. Add one hidden stitch into the hair so the holly cluster stays in place.

Christmas Light String for Antlers

The lights are made from a black chain cord and tiny colored bulbs. The cord wraps loosely around the antlers. Do not pull it tightly, because the relaxed drape is what makes the decoration look playful and handmade.

Light Cord

  • With black yarn, ch 85–95 depending on your antler width.
  • FO, leaving tails for sewing.
  • Wrap the chain around one antler, across the center, and around the other antler.
  • Sew the cord in place at several hidden points.

Tiny Bulbs

  • Make 8–10 bulbs in red, yellow, blue, green, and orange.
  • For each bulb: ch 3, sl st in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, FO.
  • Sew each bulb to the black cord, spacing them unevenly for a natural holiday look.

Hanging Ornaments

The photo shows round red and yellow ornaments and a small star hanging from the antlers. These ornaments should dangle from short gold or tan yarn loops. Keep them light so they do not pull the antlers down.

Round Ornament

  1. Make three ornaments in red and yellow.
  2. R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
  3. R2: inc around. (12)
  4. R3–R4: sc around. (12)
  5. R5: dec around. (6)
  6. Stuff lightly, close, and FO.
  7. Add a gold yarn loop at the top.

Small Star

  1. With pale yellow, make 5 sc in MR.
  2. Sl st to first sc.
  3. Repeat five times: ch 3, sl st in second ch, sc in next ch, sl st in next stitch of the ring.
  4. Pull center tight and FO.
  5. Add a gold hanging loop.

Sew or tie the ornaments to the antler branches. Place one red ball on the left, one yellow ball high on one branch, another red or yellow ball on the opposite side, and the small star lower near the side branch.

Green Pom-Pom Hat

The hat is a separate beanie shown beside the doll. It is green with ribbed texture and a red pom-pom. You may sew it lightly to one side of the doll for display, or keep it removable if the doll will be photographed.

  1. With green, R1: 8 sc in MR. (8)
  2. R2: inc around. (16)
  3. R3: sc 1, inc; repeat around. (24)
  4. R4: sc 2, inc; repeat around. (32)
  5. R5: sc 3, inc; repeat around. (40)
  6. R6: sc 4, inc; repeat around. (48)
  7. R7–R13: sc around. (48)
  8. R14: BLO sc around. (48)
  9. R15–R17: alternate FP-style texture by working sc in BLO around. (48)
  10. FO and weave in ends.

Red Pom-Pom

  • Wrap red yarn around two fingers 40–50 times.
  • Tie tightly through the center.
  • Cut loops and trim into a round pom-pom.
  • Sew to the top of the green hat.

Striped Shoulder Bag

The bag is round and soft, with red and green horizontal stripes and a red crossbody strap. It hangs on the reindeer’s right hip. The bag should look full but not oversized, about the width of one thigh.

  1. With green, R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. R2: inc around. (12)
  3. R3: sc 1, inc; repeat around. (18)
  4. R4: sc 2, inc; repeat around. (24)
  5. R5: change to red, sc around. (24)
  6. R6: change to green, sc around. (24)
  7. R7: change to red, sc around. (24)
  8. R8: change to green, sc around. (24)
  9. R9: sc 2, dec; repeat around. (18)
  10. R10: sc 1, dec; repeat around. (12)
  11. Stuff lightly.
  12. R11: dec around. (6)
  13. FO and close.

For the strap, use red yarn and ch 55–65. Test the length across the doll from one shoulder to the opposite hip. Sew one end to each side of the bag, then tack the strap across the chest so it lies flat over the sweater and overalls.

Wrapped Gifts

Make two small gifts like the photo: one red box with green ribbon and one white box with red ribbon. These are simple stuffed cubes with embroidered bows. They sit near the doll’s feet and complete the gift helper theme.

Gift Cube

  1. Make two cubes, one red and one white.
  2. Ch 7.
  3. R1: Starting in second ch from hook, sc 6. Ch 1, turn.
  4. R2–R6: sc 6. Ch 1, turn after each row.
  5. FO. Make six squares for each cube.
  6. Sew five squares together into an open cube.
  7. Stuff lightly, then sew on the sixth square.

Gift Ribbon

  • For the red gift, use green yarn to embroider one vertical ribbon and one horizontal ribbon.
  • For the white gift, use red yarn in the same way.
  • To make each bow, ch 10, tie into a small bow shape, and sew to the top center.

Optional Red Ornament Ball in Hand

The image shows a small red rounded item near one hand. To make it, crochet a tiny red ball and add a green bow. This can be sewn near the left hand or placed beside the gifts.

  1. With red, R1: 6 sc in MR. (6)
  2. R2: inc around. (12)
  3. R3–R4: sc around. (12)
  4. R5: dec around. (6)
  5. Stuff and close.
  6. With green, ch 12 and tie into a bow. Sew to the top.

Facial Shaping

Use tan yarn to lightly shape the face after the muzzle and eyes are attached. Insert the needle behind the head, come out near the inner side of one eye patch, go across to the other inner eye patch, and pull very gently. Repeat once.

Do not pull too tightly. The goal is only to make the eyes sit slightly into the face while the red muzzle stays large and rounded. Add two tiny tan stitches above the muzzle if you want the nose bridge to look more defined.

Joining the Head and Body

Place the head on the body with the red muzzle facing straight forward. The bottom of the head should overlap the green sweater neckline slightly. Pin the head carefully before sewing, because the antlers and ornaments add visual weight to the top.

  1. Use the long body tail and sew through one stitch of the body, then one stitch of the head.
  2. Work around the neck twice for strength.
  3. Add extra stuffing inside the neck before closing the seam completely.
  4. Check that the head does not tilt backward under the antler weight.
  5. Secure the yarn, hide the tail inside the body, and reshape the neck with your fingers.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

  • Sew the ears first, then sew the antlers above them.
  • Attach yarn hair between the antlers and trim unevenly.
  • Add holly leaves and berries near the front antler base.
  • Wrap and sew the black light cord around the antlers.
  • Add the tiny bulbs, ornaments, and star.
  • Sew the arms to the sweater sides.
  • Sew the overalls panel, bib, straps, and buttons into position.
  • Attach the red shoulder strap and striped bag across the body.
  • Sew sandals under the feet and add red flower details.
  • Place the hat and gifts beside the doll or tack them lightly for display.

📌Thank you for reading the article

For the final face, check that both eye patches are level and that the red muzzle sits centered. Use a small amount of black yarn to add tiny eyebrows or upper eye accents if desired. Keep the expression wide-eyed, gentle, and cheerful.

Care Notes

This doll has many small decorations, so it is best used as a display piece, photo prop, or handmade holiday collectible. If making it for a child, avoid buttons, small safety eyes, hanging ornaments, wire, and loose light bulbs. Embroider every small detail instead.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The red muzzle is centered and lightly stuffed.
  • The white eye patches sit above the muzzle and touch closely in the middle.
  • The antlers are firm, upright, and angled outward.
  • The light string is sewn down at hidden points.
  • The overalls fit smoothly around the waist and chest.
  • The shoulder bag rests at the hip with the red strap across the body.
  • The sandals sit flat and the red flowers face forward.
  • The gifts, hat, holly, ornaments, and hair are securely attached.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Spot clean only with a slightly damp cloth and mild soap. Do not soak the doll, because the antlers, ornaments, buttons, and pom-pom may lose shape. Blot gently, reshape with your fingers, and let the doll air dry fully on a towel.

Store the reindeer upright or lying flat in a clean box. Keep tissue paper around the antlers so the branches and hanging ornaments do not bend. Avoid direct sunlight for long periods, especially on the red muzzle, green sweater, and blue overalls.

Before seasonal display, gently fluff the yarn hair, round the pom-pom, and straighten the bag strap. If the light cord shifts, tack it back with matching black sewing thread or yarn. With careful handling, this Christmas Reindeer Gift Helper Doll can be enjoyed year after year.
