Finished Size

The finished panda measures about 12 inches tall when made with worsted weight yarn and a 3.25 mm hook. The head and body are worked as one soft oval shape, giving the doll the same chunky, rounded form shown in the photo. The accessories are small but important, so keep your stitches tight and consistent.

Important Pattern Notes

Work the panda body firmly so the white rounded shape holds its form. Stuff gradually as you crochet, especially through the lower body and head area. The doll should feel full but not stretched. If stuffing shows through, reduce your hook size by 0.25 mm.

The head and body are made as one continuous piece. This creates the smooth white oval panda shape in the image. The overalls are crocheted separately and sewn around the lower body so the blue denim fabric sits neatly over the panda’s belly.

Use stitch markers at the beginning of every round. For cleaner color changes, finish the final yarn over of the last stitch with the new color. When making stripes, carry unused yarn loosely inside the round only if it does not show through.

Main Panda Head and Body

Use white yarn and a 3.25 mm hook. Work in continuous rounds. This piece begins at the top of the head and widens into the large round face, then narrows slightly at the neck and expands again into the chubby lower body.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

  1. Sew the ears first, placing them evenly on the upper sides of the head.
  2. Sew the black eye patches around the eyes. Keep both patches level and slightly angled inward.
  3. Attach the nose centered below the eyes. Embroider the short mouth line and sew the tongue underneath.
  4. Sew the arms to the sides of the body, angled downward.
  5. Sew the legs to the lower front body. Add sandals securely over the feet.
  6. Pull the overall shorts onto the body and sew the waistband in place with small hidden stitches.
  7. Sew on the bib, straps, diagonal strap, pocket, buttons, and sunflower appliques.
  8. Place the blue cap on top of the head and sew it down around the back edge.
  9. Add the crossbody bag so it rests at the panda’s right hip.
  10. Attach the glasses last, making sure they sit evenly over the eyes.

Check the doll from the front, side, and top before knotting final threads. The panda should look round and balanced, with the face centered and the clothing sitting snugly but not stretched.

Care Notes

  • Spot clean gently with cool water and mild soap.
  • Do not twist, wring, or scrub the embroidered flowers.
  • Let the doll air dry flat on a clean towel.
  • If wire glasses are used, remove them before washing if possible.
  • Keep small buttons, wire, and safety eyes away from children under 3 years old.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The head and body are firmly stuffed with no visible gaps.
  • The black eye patches are symmetrical and sewn flat.
  • The tongue hangs centered below the small black nose.
  • The overall straps cross neatly and the tan buttons are secure.
  • The sunflowers are attached to the pocket and left short leg.
  • The blue bag sits diagonally across the front and rests on the right side.
  • The cap is centered between the ears.
  • The basket fruits and granny cushion are finished as matching props.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Store the panda in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Bright yarn colors such as red, yellow, and blue may fade if left near a sunny window for long periods. Keep the doll upright or lying flat so the cap, glasses, and straps do not bend out of shape.

For dust removal, use a soft brush or lint roller with light pressure. For deeper cleaning, dab only the stained area with a damp cloth. Avoid soaking the entire doll unless all accessories are fully washable and securely sewn.

After cleaning, reshape the ears, cap brim, sandals, and bag while damp. Let everything dry completely before storing. If the glasses loosen, reattach them with black thread at the bridge and both outer frame edges.
