Pattern Overview

This pattern is written in US crochet terms and is designed as an amigurumi-style doll with firm shaping, visible spiral rounds, and sewn-on clothing details. The main doll is worked from separate pieces, then assembled carefully so the head, ears, muzzle, arms, legs, overalls, sandals, and accessories match the soft garden character shown in the reference image.

The doll has a large rounded head, a slightly smaller body, long oval ears, short rounded arms, sturdy legs, and wide brown overalls. The styling depends on neat color changes, even stuffing, and careful sewing. Take your time with each piece, especially the muzzle, ears, overalls, bag strap, and facial embroidery.

Finished Size

  • Main doll: about 12 to 13 inches tall when made with light worsted yarn and a 2.75 mm hook.
  • Blue garden hat: about 4.5 inches wide.
  • Yellow shoulder bag: about 2 inches wide.
  • Watering can: about 2 inches tall.
  • Potted plant: about 2 inches tall including leaves.

Recommended Materials

  • Light worsted or DK cotton yarn in denim blue, pale pink, dusty pink, yellow, brown, green, white, black, gray-blue, cream, tan, and small amounts of pastel flower colors.
  • 2.75 mm crochet hook for the doll and accessories.
  • 2.25 mm crochet hook for flowers, patches, straps, and small details.
  • 10 mm black safety eyes.
  • Fiberfill stuffing.
  • Yarn needle for sewing.
  • Stitch markers.
  • Small buttons for the overall straps, or crochet circles if making the doll child-safe.
  • Black embroidery thread for eyebrows and mouth details.
  • Optional: blush powder for cheeks.

Abbreviations

  • MR: magic ring
  • ch: chain
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sc: single crochet
  • hdc: half double crochet
  • dc: double crochet
  • inc: 2 sc in the same stitch
  • dec: invisible single crochet decrease
  • BLO: back loop only
  • FLO: front loop only
  • st: stitch
  • sts: stitches
  • FO: fasten off
  • R: round or row

Gauge and Tension

For the closest look, crochet tightly enough that no stuffing shows through the stitches. A firm amigurumi fabric is important because the head, muzzle, legs, and accessories need to hold their rounded shape. With the recommended yarn and hook, 6 single crochet stitches should measure about 1 inch across.

If your stitches are loose, move down to a smaller hook. If your fabric becomes stiff and difficult to work, move up by 0.25 mm. The reference doll has a dense handmade texture, so a compact stitch style is better than a soft, loose fabric.

Important Construction Notes

  • Work most pieces in continuous spiral rounds unless the pattern says to join.
  • Use a stitch marker at the first stitch of every round.
  • Stuff the head, muzzle, body, legs, and arms firmly but not so tightly that the stitches stretch.
  • Sew the ears slightly downward and outward so they hang beside the head.
  • The muzzle should sit across the lower front of the face and cover almost half the head width.
  • The overalls are made directly around the lower body for a fitted look.
  • Use the yarn tails for sewing whenever possible to keep the finish neat.

FO, leave a tail, and close the final hole. Shape the head gently with your hands. The face should be wide and friendly, with the lower front ready for the pale pink muzzle.

Large Pink Muzzle

Use pale pink yarn. The muzzle is an oval cushion sewn onto the lower face. It should be wide, softly protruding, and centered beneath the eyes. Do not overstuff it; the muzzle should look puffy but smooth.

FO with a long sewing tail. Lightly stuff the muzzle. Pin it across the lower face between R15 and R23 of the head. The upper edge should sit just below the eyes, and the lower edge should curve near the base of the head.

Sew around the muzzle with small stitches. Before closing the last inch, add a little more stuffing if needed. Embroider a vertical blue line down the center of the muzzle, then make two short horizontal stitches across that line to copy the soft stitched nose detail.

Eyebrows and Face Embroidery

  • Use black embroidery thread for the eyebrows.
  • Place one eyebrow above each eye between R12 and R13.
  • Each eyebrow should be a short curved stitch about 3 stitches wide.
  • Angle the eyebrows slightly downward toward the center for a shy garden-donkey expression.
  • Use denim blue yarn to embroider the muzzle center line if you want it to match the head color.

Long Floppy Outer Ears

Make 2 with denim blue yarn. The ears are long, narrow ovals with rounded tips. They should hang down beside the head, with the inner pink ear sewn inside each blue ear. Work tightly so the ears hold their shape but still fold softly.

  1. Ch 12.
  2. R1: Starting in second ch from hook, sc 10, 3 sc in last ch, work on other side, sc 9, inc in last ch. 24 sts.

Pink Inner Ear Panels

Make 2 with dusty pink yarn and a 2.25 mm hook. These panels are flat and slightly smaller than the blue ears. They should sit centered inside each ear, leaving a visible denim blue border all around.

  1. Ch 10.
  2. R1: Starting in second ch from hook, sc 8, 3 sc in last ch, work on other side, sc 7, inc in last ch. 20 sts.
  3. R2: inc, sc 7, inc in next 3 sts, sc 7, inc in next 2 sts. 26 sts.

  5. R4: sc around. 34 sts.

FO with a long tail. Sew one pink panel onto each blue ear. Place it closer to the rounded tip than the base, leaving about 2 rounds of blue visible at the bottom. Sew with small neat stitches and do not stuff.

Body

Use denim blue yarn. The body is shorter than the head and shaped like a soft pear. It will be partly covered by the striped shirt and brown overalls, but the upper neck and side areas should still be smooth and firm.

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
  2. R2: inc around. 12 sts.
  3. R3: sc 1, inc, repeat around. 18 sts.

  13. R18: sc around. 27 sts.
  14. R19: sc 7, dec, repeat around. 24 sts.
  15. R20: sc around. 24 sts.

Stuff the body firmly. FO with a long tail for sewing to the head. The top of the body should be narrower than the head, creating a cute amigurumi proportion.

Striped Shirt Band on Body

The visible shirt has alternating yellow and denim blue stripes. Work this section around the upper body before adding the overalls, or crochet it as a separate tube and sew it on. For the cleanest result, use the body rounds as your base and surface crochet the stripes.

  • With yellow yarn, surface sl st around body R15.
  • With denim blue yarn, surface sl st around body R14.
  • With yellow yarn, surface sl st around body R13.
  • With denim blue yarn, surface sl st around body R12.
  • With yellow yarn, surface sl st around body R11.

Keep the stitches even and do not pull too tightly. The stripes should look like soft horizontal bands across the chest. The overalls will cover the lower body, leaving the striped shirt visible on the upper chest and sleeves.

Legs

Make 2 with denim blue yarn. The legs are sturdy cylinders, slightly wider at the foot end. The lower part remains visible under the brown overall shorts. Stuff each leg firmly so the doll can lie flat and keep a rounded shape.

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
  2. R2: inc around. 12 sts.
  3. R3: sc 1, inc, repeat around. 18 sts.
  4. R4: sc 2, inc, repeat around. 24 sts.
  5. R5: BLO sc around. 24 sts.

  7. R9: sc 6, dec, repeat around. 21 sts.
  8. R10 to R17: sc around. 21 sts for 8 rounds.

Stuff the leg firmly, keeping the foot slightly fuller than the ankle. FO the first leg. Do not fasten off the second leg if you want to join the legs directly to form the lower body. For this doll, sew the legs separately under the overalls for better control.

Flatten the top of each leg slightly. Sew the legs to the lower body about 4 stitches apart. Angle them straight down, not outward. The brown overall shorts will sit over the top of the legs.

Arms

Make 2 with denim blue yarn. The arms are simple rounded tubes with no fingers. They attach to the sides of the body just below the shoulder line and hang down beside the overalls.

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
  2. R2: inc around. 12 sts.
  3. R3: sc 1, inc, repeat around. 18 sts.
  4. R4 to R7: sc around. 18 sts for 4 rounds.

Slide the shorts over the body from the legs upward before the head is sewn on, or carefully stretch them over the lower body if your stitches allow. Position the waistband just below the striped shirt.

Overall Front Bib

Attach brown yarn at the front center waistband. Work the bib in rows. It should cover the lower chest and sit under the yellow-and-blue shirt stripes, leaving the bee patch visible above or beside it.

  2. Row 1: Starting in second ch from hook, sc 23.
  3. FO with a long tail.

Sew one strap from the top left of the bib over the shoulder to the back waistband. Sew the second strap from the top right of the bib over the other shoulder. Add one small button or crochet circle at each front strap end.

Crochet Button Circles

Make 2 if you prefer yarn buttons. Use tan yarn and a 2.25 mm hook.

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR.
  2. Join with sl st and FO.
  3. Use brown thread or yarn to make two tiny buttonhole stitches across the center.

Striped Shirt Sleeves

The doll’s arms are blue, but short striped sleeves wrap around the top of each arm. These bands help match the yellow-and-blue shirt visible in the image.

  1. With yellow yarn, ch 16 and join to form a ring.
  2. R1: sc around. 16 sts.
  3. Change to denim blue. R2: sc around. 16 sts.
  4. Change to yellow. R3: sc around. 16 sts.
  5. FO, leaving a sewing tail.

Make 2 sleeve bands. Slide one over the top of each arm before sewing the arms to the body. Sew lightly in place so the sleeve edge sits close to the shoulder.

Bee Patch on Shirt

The small bee on the chest is an important detail. Use yellow, black, and white yarn or embroidery thread. This patch can be crocheted as a tiny oval, then embroidered.

  1. With yellow yarn and a 2.25 mm hook, ch 5.
  2. Starting in second ch from hook, sc 3, 3 sc in last ch, work on other side, sc 2, inc. 10 sts.
  3. Join with sl st and FO.
  4. Use black thread to embroider 2 short vertical stripes and a small smile line.
  5. With white yarn, make 2 tiny wings by stitching two small loops above the bee body.

Sew the bee patch on the upper right chest area of the striped shirt. Place it above the overalls so it remains visible after the bib is attached.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

After all pieces are sewn, check the face from the front. The eyes should sit evenly above the muzzle, the eyebrows should look soft, and the muzzle center line should be straight. A small adjustment in eyebrow angle can change the whole expression, so keep the stitches gentle.

Check both ears from the front and top. They should hang symmetrically, but not stiffly. The left ear can sit slightly forward because the daisy decoration adds weight and visual interest. Sew through the base more than once so the ears do not loosen over time.

Look at the clothing next. The striped shirt should show above the overalls, the bib should sit centered, and the straps should run cleanly over the shoulders. The yellow bag should cross diagonally and rest naturally on the front of the overalls.

Care Notes

  • Spot clean with cool water and a mild soap.
  • Do not soak if safety eyes, buttons, or small decorations are attached.
  • Press gently with a towel to remove moisture.
  • Air dry flat in a shaded place.
  • Do not tumble dry, bleach, or iron the doll.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The head is firmly stuffed and smoothly rounded.
  • The muzzle is centered and lightly puffed.
  • The eyes are even and secure.
  • The ears are sewn at matching heights.
  • The overalls fit snugly around the body.
  • The bee patch, daisy, sandals, bag, and buttons are firmly attached.
  • The hat, watering can, and potted plant are finished as matching accessories.
  • All yarn tails are woven in or hidden inside the doll.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

To preserve the doll’s shape, store it upright or lying flat without heavy items on top. Long ears, bag straps, and hat brims can bend if pressed for a long time. If the ears flatten, reshape them gently with your fingers.

For dust removal, use a soft dry brush and move in the direction of the crochet stitches. Avoid rough scrubbing around the muzzle embroidery, daisy flower, bee patch, and butterfly bag detail because these small pieces can loosen with repeated friction.

If the doll is made for display, keep it away from direct sunlight to reduce fading. Cotton yarn can fade over time, especially blue, yellow, and pink shades. A shaded shelf or covered display basket will help keep the colors bright and soft.

If gifting to a young child, replace safety eyes and buttons with embroidered details and crochet circles. Check every sewn piece carefully. Small accessories such as the watering can, plant, hat ribbon, and bag butterfly should be used for decoration unless made with child-safe finishing methods.
