This crochet scene creates a cozy forest mouse mushroom tea house with a rounded grassy base, a cream mushroom cottage, a red spotted cap roof, a glowing tea-room opening, three tiny mice, a picnic tea blanket, mushrooms, stepping stones, a pond with lily pads, trees, a web, flowers, moss, a hanging lantern, a wooden door, and small woodland details.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Skill Level
This pattern is written for confident beginners to intermediate crocheters. The shapes are simple, but the full cottage scene uses many small pieces, careful placement, firm stuffing, and neat sewing. Work slowly and check each part against the image before attaching it permanently.

Gauge and Notes
Gauge is not critical, but tight stitches are important because the cottage, mice, and mushrooms need a firm amigurumi shape. With a 3.0 mm hook and worsted yarn, 6 sc by 6 rounds should measure about 1 inch. Use a smaller hook if stuffing shows through.
Work most amigurumi pieces in continuous rounds unless a joined round is stated. Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round. Stuff gradually, especially in the cottage wall and mushroom cap, so the form stays rounded without becoming lumpy.
The cottage is built as a hollow mushroom stem with an open front arch. The roof is a wide red mushroom cap that slightly overhangs the cream cottage wall. The scene is assembled on a thick oval grass base, matching the image’s rounded display style.
Oval Grass Base
Large Oval Top Panel
Use grass green yarn and a 3.0 mm hook. This oval base supports the full forest scene, so crochet firmly. The front should be wide enough for the pond, stepping stones, snail, and mushrooms. The back should hold the cottage and trees.

Textured Moss on Base
Use moss green yarn with a 2.25 mm hook. The image has loose woodland moss around the cottage, pond, stones, and mushrooms. These little patches make the base look natural without needing a complicated stitch pattern.
- Make 12 moss strips: Ch 15, starting in 2nd ch, work sc, ch 3, sl st in same st, sc in next st, ch 4, sl st in same st, repeat randomly to the end. FO.
- Make 8 short moss clumps: Ch 8, work sl st, sc, hdc, sc, sl st, ch 3, sl st, sc, sl st along the chain. FO.
- Sew moss around the cottage base, behind the pond, near the snail, and under the trees.
Round Pond With Lily Pads
Aqua Pond
The pond sits on the front right of the display. It is a flat spiral circle in bright aqua with a slightly raised rim. Keep it smooth, because the clean circle contrasts nicely with the textured moss and mushrooms.
- Use aqua blue yarn. Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
- Rnd 2: Inc around. 12 sts.
- Rnd 3: Repeat sc 1, inc around. 18 sts.

Stepping Stones
The image shows several round stepping stones in gray, white, and brown leading toward the cottage. Make them slightly irregular, not perfectly identical. Sew them flat so they look embedded in the grass.

- For each small stone: 6 sc in MR, inc around to 12 sts, join, FO.
- For each medium stone: 6 sc in MR, inc around to 12 sts, repeat sc 1, inc around to 18 sts, join, FO.

Thick Front Arch Border
The arch border is important because the image shows a clean rounded cream rim around the large entrance. This border also strengthens the cottage wall and gives the opening a soft handmade look.
- Attach cream yarn at the lower left edge of the opening.
- Work sc evenly up the left side edge, placing 2 sc into every 3 row ends.
- Across the top arch edge, work sc 1 in each row or stitch, keeping the curve smooth.

- Rnd 2: With brown yarn, sc around. Join and FO.
- Embroider two crossing lines inside the oval to suggest window panes.
- Sew window to the right cottage wall, slightly behind the door.
Attaching the Cottage to the Base
Pin the cottage to the back center of the oval base before sewing. The large arch should face forward, and the door should sit on the viewer’s right side. The mushroom roof should overhang evenly and slightly shadow the open tea room.
- Place the cottage floor about 1.5 inches from the back edge of the oval base.
- Sew the cottage floor securely through the base top only, using cream or beige yarn.
- Add extra moss strips around the cottage foot to hide the seam.
- Place the red roof on top of the cream wall. The front overhang should extend about 0.75 inch beyond the arch.
- Sew the underside of the roof to the upper cottage wall with small hidden stitches.
- If using fairy lights, position the wire under the front roof moss before sewing the moss completely down.
Mouse Placement
The mouse group is the heart of the design. The center mouse sits at the back middle, the left mouse turns slightly inward, and the right mouse faces toward the tea setting. This triangular arrangement makes the cottage feel lively and cozy.
- Sew the green leaf blanket to the cottage floor.
- Place the center mouse near the back of the blanket, under the hanging lantern.
- Place the left mouse near the left side of the blanket, turned about 25 degrees toward the center.
- Place the right mouse near the right side, turned about 25 degrees toward the center.
- Sew through the lower body and legs only, so the heads stay rounded and expressive.
- Sew cups, plates, berries, cookies, and sandwiches between the mice.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Embroider each mouse face after the heads are attached so the expressions face the viewer correctly. Add a tiny brown nose, a short vertical mouth line, and two soft cheek stitches in pale pink. Keep the features small and gentle.
- Check that both ears on each mouse are even and angled outward.
- Add tiny whiskers with one strand of gray or brown embroidery thread, using two short stitches on each side of the muzzle.
- Sew the lantern to the inside roof center, hanging just above the center mouse.
- Attach flowers last so they cover seams naturally.
- Add final moss around the door, tree bases, mushrooms, pond edge, and stepping stones.
- Trim loose ends carefully, but do not cut any structural sewing tails too short.
Care Notes
This finished cottage is best used as a decorative display piece. Because it includes many small sewn parts, flowers, food pieces, and optional lights, it is not recommended as a toy for babies or pets. Keep it on a shelf, desk, craft table, or protected display area.
- Spot clean with a slightly damp cloth.
- Do not soak if cardboard, wire, glue, or lights are inside.
- Keep away from direct sunlight to reduce fading.
- If using LED lights, remove or switch off the battery pack when not displayed.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The oval base is firm, flat, and lightly padded.
- The cream cottage opening is centered and neatly bordered.
- The red mushroom roof overhangs the wall evenly.
- White roof spots are scattered naturally, not placed in perfect rows.
- The moss garland covers the roof seam.
- Three mice are seated in a tea-party arrangement.
- The pond, lily pads, stepping stones, snail, trees, web, mushrooms, fern, door, sign, lantern, and flowers are all attached securely.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Dust the cottage regularly with a soft makeup brush or clean paintbrush, moving gently around the flowers, moss, and tiny tea pieces. For deeper cleaning, dab only the stained area with cool water and mild soap, then blot with a towel.
Let the piece air dry fully in a shaded place. Do not use heat, a dryer, or strong sunlight, because the stuffing and inserts may warp. Store the cottage in a breathable box with tissue paper around the roof and trees to protect the shape.
If any small detail loosens over time, reattach it with matching yarn and a sharp yarn needle. Avoid pulling on the fairy lights, spider web, flower vines, or mouse arms. These delicate details create the charm of the forest tea house and should be handled gently.
