Gauge and Construction Notes

Use a tight amigurumi tension so the village looks firm and detailed. The tree trunks should stand upright without collapsing. If your stitches are loose, use a smaller hook or add plastic canvas inside the trunks before final assembly.

The entire piece is built in sections. First make the round grassy base, stream, and paths. Then crochet the treehouses, mushroom homes, owls, bridge, market stall, lanterns, books, baskets, signs, flowers, mushrooms, and leafy canopies. Finally, sew everything onto the base.

Large Round Grass Base

Use grass green yarn and a 3.5 mm hook. Work in joined rounds for a flatter circle. Join each round with a sl st to the first sc, then ch 1 before starting the next round.

  3. Change to black, R3: Sc around. 6 sts.
  4. Fasten off.
  5. Handle: With black, ch 6 and sew both ends to the lantern top.

For a standing lantern, make a post by chaining 8 with brown yarn and slip stitching back across. Sew the lantern to the post, then sew the post to the base.

Hammock Between Tree and Post

The left side has a small hammock. Use cream yarn for the bed and brown yarn for the ropes.

  1. With cream, ch 16.
  2. R1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. 15 sts.

  5. Join brown yarn to one short end, ch 12, fasten off.
  6. Repeat on the other short end.

Sew one rope to the side tree and the other to a small post. Let the center hang slightly loose. Add a tiny pillow by making a 5 sc by 3 row rectangle in pale blue.

Books and Scrolls

Place small books on the side branches, near the right treehouse, and beside the reading owls. Use assorted colors with cream page edges.

Closed Book

Make 8 books in purple, blue, red, green, and brown. Sew them stacked near tree doors, branches, and owls.

White Flowers and Pebble Mushrooms

Use white and cream accents around the stream, mushroom cottage, and signs. Make 12 white flowers and 14 cream pebble mushrooms.

Simple White Flower

  1. With yellow, 5 sc in MR, sl st to close.
  2. Change to white. Ch 3, sl st in next st, repeat 5 times.

Cream Pebble Mushroom

  1. With cream, 5 sc in MR. 5 sts.
  2. R2: Sc around. 5 sts.
  3. Fasten off and close.

Scatter these in small clusters around tree roots, bridge posts, and the front edge of the base.

Fence Around Owl Gathering Area

The right front area has a small fenced gathering space with owls sitting inside. Use tan yarn for short posts and rails.

Fence Post

  1. Ch 7.
  2. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook and across. 6 sts.
  3. Fasten off.

Make 10 posts. Sew them in a curved half-circle near the right side of the stream. Add two horizontal rails by chaining 20 to 26 stitches and sewing the chain across the posts.

Owl Family Nest

Make a shallow nest for three tiny owls near the right treehouse. Use brown yarn and a 2.5 mm hook.

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
  2. R2: Inc around. 12 sts.
  3. R3: Sc 1, inc, repeat around. 18 sts.
  4. R4: BLO sc around. 18 sts.
  5. R5: Sc around. 18 sts.
  6. Fasten off.

Place three tiny owls inside. Sew them securely so the nest looks full and cozy.

Main Village Layout

Before sewing, place all pieces on the base and check the balance. The main treehouse belongs at the back center. The red mushroom cottage sits at the left front. The smaller leafy treehouse sits at the left back, and the right treehouse sits at the right back.

  • Place the blue stream from the front edge toward the middle right.
  • Set the bridge over the stream near the front right.
  • Place the main sign in front of the bridge.
  • Arrange the market stall in the front center-left.
  • Place the garden bed at the left front near the mushroom cottage.
  • Add the owl family gathering area to the right of the bridge.
  • Scatter cobblestones from the main tree door to every smaller area.
  • Add lanterns at path corners, near the bridge, and near the garden.

Attaching the Main Treehouse

Use long brown yarn and a yarn needle. Sew through the bottom round of the trunk and into the grass base several times. Pull firmly but do not distort the circle. Sew roots over the seam so the trunk appears grown from the base.

Add the cream front door first, then the two lower windows, then the upper windows. Sew the book-reading owl to the front upper trunk before the canopy is fully attached.

Place the leafy canopy over the trunk top. Pin it so the leaves hang evenly around the front. Sew the inner edge of the cap to the trunk using dark green yarn. Keep the moon and star garlands visible under the canopy edge.

Attaching Side Treehouses

Sew the left treehouse behind the mushroom cottage. Angle its front door slightly toward the center of the village. Sew the right treehouse behind the owl gathering area and angle its branch toward the front.

Add the small round windows, doors, branches, books, and leaves after the trunks are sewn down. This prevents small pieces from shifting while you attach the trees.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Sew all owls in place after the houses, paths, and bridge are secure. Use tiny hidden stitches at the bottom of each owl. Add cream eye discs, black pupils, orange beaks, and small wings. Keep the eyes large and close together for the cute owl village expression.

Embroider short V shapes on owl bellies with darker yarn. Add blush with soft pink yarn if desired. For the image style, keep faces gentle, round, and curious rather than sharp or serious.

Care Notes

Spot clean only. Use a cool damp cloth and mild soap. Do not soak the full village because the trunks, signs, bridge, and layered leaves may lose shape. Let the piece air dry flat on a towel.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • All tree trunks stand upright and are firmly sewn to the base.
  • The stream is flat and the bridge is centered over it.
  • Leaves overlap enough to hide canopy seams.
  • Moon and star lanterns hang clearly across the main tree front.
  • Every owl has two eye discs, pupils, a beak, and wings.
  • Doors, windows, books, baskets, signs, lanterns, mushrooms, flowers, and stones are attached securely.
  • The final village looks balanced from the front 3/4 viewing angle.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Store the village in a dust-free box when not displayed. Place tissue paper around the tree canopies and bridge so small parts do not bend. Keep it away from direct sunlight to protect the green, red, and yellow yarn colors.

For long-term display, dust gently with a soft makeup brush. If a leaf or lantern loosens, reattach it with matching yarn rather than pulling on the original stitch. This keeps the miniature village neat, firm, and photo-ready.
