Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Pattern Overview

This pattern is written in US knitting terms and is designed for a small display doll with an oversized leopard cub head, short rounded body, slim arms, short legs, and detailed removable accessories. Most pieces are worked in the round on double-pointed needles or with magic loop.

Use firm tension and stuff gradually. The doll in the picture has a soft sculpted face, rounded cheeks, a small pink nose, large brown eyes, embroidered whiskers, black leopard spots, and warm woodland colors. Keep your stitches tight enough so stuffing does not show through.

Finished Size

  • Total doll height: about 10 in / 25.5 cm from slipper sole to top of head.
  • Head width: about 4.25 in / 10.8 cm at widest point.
  • Body height: about 3 in / 7.5 cm from neck to crotch.
  • Leg length: about 2.25 in / 5.7 cm including slippers.
  • Arm length: about 2.75 in / 7 cm.
  • Sweater width: about 3.25 in / 8.3 cm across the chest when lightly stuffed.
  • Acorn beret width: about 2.5 in / 6.4 cm.

Yarn and Materials

  • Sport weight yarn in golden yellow for leopard head, tail, lower paws, and visible ankle fur.
  • Sport weight yarn in cream for muzzle, cheek patches, sweater stripe, toe tips, and small mushroom stem.
  • Sport weight yarn in black or charcoal for ear backs, tail tip, paw claws, and leopard spots.
  • Sport weight yarn in moss green for sweater, pants, cuffs, yarn ball, and book cover.
  • Sport weight yarn in rust brown for sweater stripe, acorn beret, satchel, strap, and acorn cap details.
  • Small amounts of tan, beige, red, pink, white, leaf green, gray, and dark brown embroidery yarn.
  • US 2 / 2.75 mm double-pointed needles or long circular needle for magic loop.
  • US 1 / 2.25 mm needles for small accessories if you want them extra firm.
  • Two 9 mm brown safety eyes or embroidered eyes.
  • Fiberfill stuffing.
  • Tapestry needle, stitch markers, removable markers, small scissors, pins.
  • One tiny 6 mm button for the satchel flap.
  • Optional pipe cleaner for tail shaping.

Gauge

Gauge: 28 sts and 38 rounds = 4 in / 10 cm in stockinette worked in the round with US 2 needles. Exact gauge matters because the head, clothing, and accessories are proportioned closely. Knit a firm fabric rather than a loose garment fabric.

Color Placement Notes

The leopard head is golden yellow with cream cheek patches and muzzle pieces added separately. The black spots are easiest as duplicate stitch after knitting, because this keeps the face smooth and allows careful placement around the eyes.

The sweater is moss green with a cream stripe and a rust stripe across the upper chest and sleeves. The lower front has small embroidered woodland motifs: a fox on the left, a golden fern in the center, a gray bunny on the right, red flowers, white mushrooms, and tiny leaves.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

  • Attach legs to the lower body, spaced 8 sts apart at the front.
  • Sew arms to the sides just below the sweater shoulders.
  • Pull pants onto the body before closing any hard-to-reach seams.
  • Dress the doll in the sweater and tack the sweater lightly at the back neck and underarms.
  • Sew the tail to the back right hip so it curves out and rests behind the body.
  • Add the acorn beret tilted to the doll’s left and the mushroom clip near the doll’s right ear.
  • Place the satchel strap across the front from left shoulder to right hip.
  • Check the eyes, nose, smile, whiskers, and spots. Add tiny stitches until the expression is balanced and gentle.

Care Notes

Spot clean the finished doll with cool water and a soft cloth. Do not soak if you used safety eyes, buttons, wire, or pipe cleaners. Reshape the head, sweater, hat, and accessories while damp, then let everything air dry flat.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The head is larger than the body and softly rounded.
  • The cream muzzle sits directly below the eyes.
  • Both ears are cupped and edged with dark yarn.
  • The sweater has moss green body color, cream and rust stripes, and woodland embroidery.
  • The acorn beret tilts to one side.
  • The red mushroom accent has white dots.
  • The satchel rests at the right hip with a diagonal strap.
  • The tail has a black tip and small leopard spots.
  • The teapot, cup, book, and yarn ball complete the storytime scene.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Store the doll away from direct sunlight to protect the golden yellow, moss green, and rust yarn colors. Keep it in a dry place with good airflow. If displaying on wood, place a clean cloth underneath to prevent dust from collecting on the knitted surface.

To refresh the shape, gently steam from several inches away without pressing the iron onto the fabric. Pat the sweater stripes flat with your fingers, lift the ears into shape, and smooth the acorn beret. Let the doll cool completely before moving it.

For long-term storage, wrap the doll and accessories in acid-free tissue. Do not compress the face, ears, or satchel under heavy objects. Keep the small teapot, cup, yarn ball, and book in a labeled pouch so the full woodland storytime set stays together.
