Pattern Overview
This pattern is written in US English knitting terms and is designed as a detailed, photo-inspired knitted doll project. The finished doll has a tall, slightly lanky sloth shape with a narrow neck, soft rounded body, long arms, short legs, wide face, side-positioned eyes, and seaside accessories.
The body is knitted mostly in the round for smooth shaping. Smaller parts may be worked flat if that feels easier for beginners. The overalls, striped sailor shirt, sneakers, bag, hat, lighthouse, and seagull are all separate knitted pieces, then sewn on for a layered handmade look.
Finished Size
- Doll height: about 13 in / 33 cm from sneaker sole to top of head.
- Body width: about 4 in / 10 cm across the overalls.
- Head width: about 4.75 in / 12 cm including the side eye bulges.
- Hat width: about 5.5 in / 14 cm across the brim.
- Gauge: 6 stitches and 8 rounds = 1 in / 2.5 cm in stockinette using smaller needles.
Skill Level
Adventurous beginner to intermediate. You will use knit, purl, increases, decreases, simple color changes, mattress stitch, duplicate stitch, embroidery, and small-part assembly. The pattern gives exact stitch counts at each shaping stage, so read each section before knitting.

Important Construction Notes
The doll in the image has a playful handmade texture, so do not over-tighten the fabric. The head is wide and soft, the neck is long and slim, and the body becomes wider at the overalls. Firm stuffing is needed in the neck so the head can sit upright.
When changing colors for the striped shirt, twist yarns neatly on the inside. Keep floats loose so the torso does not pucker. The stripes should look clean across the chest, sleeves, and shoulders.
- Main doll direction: legs are made first, joined into body, then neck and head are continued upward.
- Clothing direction: shirt is knitted as part of the torso colorwork, while overalls are a separate front-and-back layer sewn over it.
- Face direction: eyes, nose, teeth, mouth, and tiny crab are added after the head is stuffed.
Legs and Sneakers
Make two legs. Begin with the blue sneaker sole, then continue into brown overall legs. Work in the round unless you prefer to knit flat and seam.

Tiny Red Crab on the Head
The crab sits between the eyes and adds the playful seaside detail seen in the image. Keep it small so it does not overwhelm the face.

- Add the tiny red crab on top of the head.
- Embroider the sailboat motif on the chest.
- Place the red bag strap diagonally and tack it securely.
- Finish the hat, lighthouse, and seagull as separate display accessories.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Use black yarn to refine the smile after the nose and teeth are sewn on. The mouth should curve outward gently from the center line, giving the face the same cheerful seaside expression. Keep the stitches soft and slightly loose so the face does not pucker.
- Place the eyes high and wide, almost at the sides of the head.
- Shape the muzzle with your fingers before the final stitches are tightened.
- Use one small white stitch on each pupil for a lively look.
- Check the crab placement last so it sits visibly between the eyes.
Care Notes
This doll is best used as a decorative handmade toy. Because it has small buttons, embroidered accessories, and separate props, it is not recommended for children under three years old unless all small parts are replaced with secure embroidery.
- Spot clean with cool water and mild soap.
- Do not wring or twist the doll.
- Pat dry with a towel and reshape while damp.
- Allow to air dry completely before storing.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The neck is firmly stuffed and holds the head upright.
- The striped shirt has even blue and white bands.
- The brown overalls sit smoothly over the lower body.
- The blue sneakers have white soles and lace details.
- The red bag crosses from shoulder to opposite hip.
- The yellow hat has a rolled brim and blue fish patch.
- The lighthouse has red stripes, navy roof, and small window.
- The seagull has gray wings, yellow beak, and orange legs.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Store the doll away from strong sunlight so the red, blue, and yellow yarns stay bright. If displaying the accessories separately, keep them in a small fabric pouch when not in use so the lighthouse, hat, and seagull do not get misplaced.
For long-term storage, wrap the doll loosely in acid-free tissue or clean cotton fabric. Avoid plastic bags for extended periods because trapped moisture can affect the stuffing and yarn. Refresh the shape by gently fluffing the body and smoothing the overalls by hand.
