Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern is designed as a detailed miniature crochet scene. The finished piece is built on a firm round base, with the cottage placed toward the back, the pond at the front, and all small accessories arranged around the camp area.
The pattern uses tight amigurumi-style stitches for the toys and slightly flatter spiral crochet for the landscape. Work most pieces with a smaller hook than your yarn label suggests so the stuffing and structure stay neat.
- Skill level: Intermediate, confident beginner friendly with patience.
- Finished size: About 13 inches wide and 11 inches tall, depending on yarn and tension.
- Main technique: Single crochet in continuous rounds and flat rows.
- Best yarn: Worsted weight cotton or cotton blend for a crisp handmade look.
- Hook size: 3.0 mm for most pieces and 3.5 mm for the base.
Materials
- Worsted weight yarn in grass green, pond blue, cabin brown, roof rust brown, tan, cream, gray, dark green, moss green, red, white, yellow, black, orange, light blue, and small scraps of accent colors.
- 3.0 mm crochet hook.
- 3.5 mm crochet hook for the large base only.
- Fiberfill stuffing.
- Yarn needle.
- Stitch markers.
- Small amount of cardboard or plastic canvas for the cottage walls, porch, sign, dock, and base insert.
- Craft wire or pipe cleaner for fishing pole and lantern handle, optional.
- Fabric glue, optional, for tiny parts.
Abbreviations Used
- MR: Magic ring.
- ch: Chain.
- sl st: Slip stitch.
- sc: Single crochet.
- hdc: Half double crochet.
- dc: Double crochet.
- inc: 2 sc in the same stitch.
- dec: Invisible single crochet decrease.
- BLO: Back loop only.
- FLO: Front loop only.
- st: Stitch.
- R: Round or row.
- FO: Fasten off.
Gauge and Notes
Gauge is not extremely strict, but it affects how well the cottage fits the base. With 3.0 mm hook and worsted yarn, 6 sc and 6 rounds should measure about 1 inch. Keep all amigurumi pieces firm and compact.
Work in continuous rounds unless a row instruction says otherwise. Use a stitch marker at the first stitch of each round. Stuff small pieces gradually and only lightly unless the pattern says to stuff firmly.
For the diorama base, work flat and do not overstuff. A slightly firm insert under the crocheted base helps the pond, dock, cottage, and trees stand upright without curling.
Large Round Landscape Base
The base is a wide circle divided into a green grassy upper section and a blue pond section at the front. The easiest way is to make one full green circle, then crochet and sew a blue pond overlay onto the front half.
Green Round Base
Use grass green yarn and 3.5 mm hook.

Fold the circle visually so only the lower front half shows as the pond. Sew it to the green base with small stitches, leaving a curved shoreline. Hide the back half under the cottage area if needed, or trim your insert so it stays flat.
Base Edge Finish
With grass green yarn, join at the back edge of the base. Work one round of reverse single crochet or regular sc around the outer edge. If using cardboard inside, sew the crocheted circle around the insert before closing the final 3 inches.
A-Frame Camp Cottage
The cottage has a warm brown triangular front, a tall rust-brown roof that drapes down both sides, a rounded cream-trimmed door, tiny yellow firefly lights, and a small tan porch. It sits toward the back center of the base.
Front Triangle Wall
Use cabin brown yarn and 3.0 mm hook. Work in rows.
- R1: Ch 31. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. 30 sts.

- Continue decreasing 1 stitch at each side every other row until 4 sts remain.
- Next row: Ch 1, turn, dec twice. 2 sts.
- Final row: Ch 1, turn, dec. 1 st. FO.
Make a second triangle the same way for the back wall. Cut two matching plastic canvas triangles slightly smaller than the crochet pieces. Place one insert between the front and back layers later for structure.
Side Fill Panel
Use cabin brown. This piece gives the cottage depth behind the front triangle.
- R1: Ch 13. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. 12 sts.
- R2-R24: Ch 1, turn, sc across. 12 sts.
- FO, leaving a long sewing tail.
Sew the long side panel between the two triangle walls along the lower side edges only. Leave the steep roof edges open because the roof piece will cover them.
Rust Brown Roof
Use rust brown yarn. The roof should be tall, rounded at the top, and long enough to drape down both sides like the image.
- R1: Ch 43. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. 42 sts.

- R35: Ch 1, turn, sc 3, hdc 36, sc 3. 42 sts.
- R36: Ch 1, turn, sc across. 42 sts.
- FO, leaving a long tail.
Fold the roof lengthwise over the peak of the cottage. The rows should run horizontally across the roof, forming visible ridges. Sew the roof to the triangular walls along both slanted edges. Let the front roof lip extend slightly forward.

Place the bucket, map, and plaid blanket near the right side of the cottage, close to the signpost.
Firefly Canoe Camp Sign
The sign stands on the right side behind the seated otter. It is a small tan board with dark lettering.
Sign Board
Use tan yarn.
- R1: Ch 16. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. 15 sts.
- R2-R8: Ch 1, turn, sc across. 15 sts.
- FO, leaving a long tail.
Cut a matching piece of plastic canvas and sew the crochet around it. With dark brown yarn, embroider three centered lines: Firefly, Canoe, Camp. Use simple straight stitches to keep the lettering clear.
Sign Post
- With brown, ch 18.
- Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. 17 sts.
- FO. Fold lengthwise and stitch closed to make it firm.
Sew the board to the top of the post. Attach the post to the green base with several firm stitches, then place a few pebbles around the bottom for support.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
- Sew the pond overlay to the front of the green base first.
- Sew the cottage at the back center, with the roof peak pointing upward and the porch facing the pond.
- Add the stepping stone path from the porch to the dock.
- Sew the dock at the edge of the pond, then add river rocks around it.
- Place the canoe at the lower right front of the pond and secure it with hidden stitches.
- Add pine trees behind the cottage and on both sides, varying the heights.
- Sew ferns around the cottage base and between the trees.
- Add mushrooms near the trees, mostly on the left and right edges.
- Sew the standing otter on the left shoreline and the seated otter on the right shoreline.
- Attach the fish basket beside the seated otter and the fishing pole to the standing otter.
- Place the campfire and hedgehog on the left grass section.
- Add blanket roll, teapot, cup, bucket, plaid blanket, map, lantern, acorns, and crossed paddles.
- Sew lily pads, flower, and duck on the pond surface.
- Add the signpost on the right side of the cottage area.
For faces, use black yarn and small straight stitches. Add two tiny eyes to each otter, a small nose, and one short mouth stitch. Keep expressions gentle and simple so they match the cozy handmade style.
Care Notes
Spot clean only. Use a slightly damp cloth and mild soap if needed. Do not soak the cottage or base because the inner structure may soften. Let the piece air dry completely before storing.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Base: Green circle is flat, blue pond is smooth, and shoreline stones are secure.
- Cottage: Roof is centered, door is straight, and firefly lights are evenly spaced.
- Water: Canoe, dock, lily pads, duck, and pond details are sewn down.
- Camp area: Fire ring, hedgehog, blanket roll, teapot, and cup are balanced on the left side.
- Right side: Seated otter, fish basket, sign, bucket, map, and plaid blanket are visible.
- Back area: Trees, ferns, and mushrooms frame the cottage without hiding the roof.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Keep the finished diorama away from direct sunlight for long periods, especially if you used cotton yarn in bright green, blue, red, and yellow. Sunlight can fade the pond, mushrooms, and firefly bulbs over time.
To remove dust, use a soft makeup brush or clean paintbrush. Brush gently around the trees, roof ridges, pebbles, and tiny accessories. For storage, place the piece in a clear box or on a shelf where the canoe and sign will not be pressed.
If any small piece loosens, use the original yarn tail or matching thread to sew it back in place. Avoid heavy glue on visible areas because it can leave shiny spots on the handmade texture.
