Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern is written in US crochet terminology. The main doll is worked mostly in continuous rounds, while the cardigan, bow, sandals, hat brim, and small accessories use a mix of rounds and rows. Use a stitch marker at the beginning of every round.
The finished doll is designed to look like the image: a bright yellow garden mouse with a large round face, very wide flat ears, sleepy eyebrow embroidery, white oval eyes, black safety eyes, a pink muzzle, thin whiskers, a red bow, cream shorts, mint green floral cardigan, and matching sandals.
Finished Size
- Doll height: about 12 inches tall from sandals to top of bow.
- Head width with ears: about 9 inches across.
- Hat diameter: about 4 inches.
- Bag height: about 2.75 inches.
- Tea tray width: about 3.5 inches.
Skill Level
Intermediate beginner. The stitches are simple, but there are many small decorative pieces. The most important part is keeping the stitches tight and assembling each detail symmetrically.
Materials
- Sport weight or light DK cotton yarn in golden yellow for the mouse body.
- Cream cotton yarn for shorts, cardigan lace sections, hat, cup rims, and bag stripe.
- Mint green cotton yarn for cardigan trim, sleeve stripes, sandals, bag, and hat band.
- Red cotton yarn for the large bow.
- Pink cotton yarn for muzzle, roses, sandal flowers, and hat flowers.
- White cotton yarn for eyes, tiny flowers, and bag flower.
- Small amounts of brown, black, light gray, green, pale purple, and red embroidery yarn.
- 2.25 mm crochet hook for the doll and tight amigurumi pieces.
- 2.00 mm crochet hook for flowers, bow details, and facial parts.
- 8 mm black safety eyes or black glass beads.
- Fiberfill stuffing.
- Yarn needle.
- Stitch markers.
- Small buttons, 3 pieces, about 7 mm wide, for the cardigan.
- Thin blush pink thread, embroidery floss, or waxed cord for whiskers.
- Optional pipe cleaners or craft wire for the bag strap, if you want it shaped.
Gauge
Gauge is not critical, but it must be tight enough so stuffing does not show. For the main amigurumi pieces, 6 sc rounds should measure about 1 inch tall, and 6 sc stitches should measure about 1 inch wide.
For the flat ears and accessories, keep the same hook tension. The image shows firm, even crochet stitches with no gaps, a softly rounded body, and flat spiral ears with a neat raised edge.

Important Construction Notes
- Work the head, body, legs, arms, muzzle, and bag in continuous rounds unless told otherwise.
- The ears are worked as flat circles, then edged to create a raised rounded border.
- The cardigan is worked separately and fitted around the body after the arms are attached.
- The shorts are crocheted directly onto the lower body to create the clean cream waistband and two short legs.
- The sandals are built onto the feet using soles, toe straps, ankle straps, and tiny rose appliques.
- The hat, tea tray, and basket are separate decorative props matching the garden picnic theme in the image.
Main Doll Head
Use golden yellow yarn and the 2.25 mm hook. Stuff firmly as you work. The head is a large round sphere, slightly wider than the body, with the face centered below the bow.

- Rows 2-5: sc 6. Ch 1, turn.

Fold it slightly and sew or place it inside the basket beside the leaves.
Assembling the Body
- Sew the cream shorts and leg section to the bottom of the yellow torso.
- Place the torso upright and make sure both feet point forward evenly.
- Sew the head to the top of the torso using the long tail from the body or head.
- Go around the neck opening at least 2 times for strength.
- Add extra stitches at the front and back of the neck so the large head does not wobble.
Because the ears are large, the head needs a firm neck connection. Check balance before tying off. If the head leans forward, add a few hidden support stitches between the lower chin and upper cardigan area.
Attaching the Ears
- Pin one ear on each side of the head between Rnds 11 and 23.
- The inner edge of each ear should begin about 8 stitches away from the eye area.
- The ears should sit high and open outward like two large round garden plates.
- Sew around the lower third of each ear firmly.
- Leave the outer upper edge free so the ears remain broad and flat.
After sewing, shape the ears with your fingers. The lower edges should angle slightly downward, while the round tops frame the red bow.
Attaching the Face
- Pin both white eye ovals to the front of the head between Rnds 14 and 23.
- The two white ovals should touch or nearly touch at the center.
- Sew around each oval with white yarn.
- Pin the pink muzzle below and slightly overlapping the lower center of both eyes.
- Sew the muzzle in place, adding a little stuffing before closing completely.
- Embroider eyebrows, whiskers, and the short vertical mouth line.
Cardigan Placement
- Place the cardigan around the body with the opening at the front.
- Pull the sleeves over the arms carefully.
- Adjust the front panels so one side overlaps slightly, creating the angled button-front style.
- Sew the cardigan lightly at the shoulders and underarms so it stays in place.
- Button the front loops over the buttons.
The cardigan should sit above the cream shorts. Do not pull it too low. The lower scalloped hem should rest softly over the shorts waistband.
Ear Flower Placement
- Left ear: Sew one white daisy near the lower left rim, then add tiny pink flowers and green leaves around it.
- Right ear: Sew the ladybug near the lower outer edge. Add tiny white and pale blue flowers above it in a curved trail.
- Keep all decorations light so the ears do not sag.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Sew the red bow to the top of the head, slightly to the right. Secure it through the center band and both bow loops. Add the shoulder bag over the mouse’s left shoulder so the bag rests on the right side of the body.
Check the face from the front. The eyes should be large and close together, the muzzle should sit centered below them, and the whiskers should spread evenly on both sides. Add a tiny pink stitch under the muzzle for the soft mouse mouth.
Sew the sandal roses firmly to the front straps. Add tiny side flowers near the ankles. Place the hat, tea tray, and basket beside the doll as display accessories.
Care Notes
- Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap.
- Do not soak if you used safety eyes, buttons, wire, or cardboard support.
- Reshape ears, bow, cardigan, and hat while damp.
- Let the doll air dry completely before storing.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Keep the finished garden mouse away from direct sunlight for long periods, especially the yellow head, mint cardigan, and red bow. Cotton yarn can fade if displayed in bright windows.
For storage, wrap the doll loosely in acid-free tissue or a clean cotton cloth. Do not crush the ears or bow. Store the hat, basket, and tea tray separately so small flowers and handles keep their shape.
If dust collects on the ears or cardigan, use a soft brush and move gently in the direction of the stitches. For deeper cleaning, dab only the stained area and avoid rubbing the embroidered details.
After cleaning, reshape the large ears into flat circles, smooth the cardigan hem, arrange the whiskers evenly, and let everything dry naturally. Do not use a dryer or strong heat.
