Crochet Tutorial: Cozy Bunny Living Room Miniature Diorama – Free Crochet Pattern.

This cozy crochet miniature diorama features a warm bunny living room with a seated bunny, cream sofa, matching armchair, oval braided rug, wooden coffee table, fireplace wall, bookshelves, tiny books, teapot tray, pillows, potted plants, floor lamp, baskets, and a plank-style base. The finished scene is designed as a soft dollhouse room with stitched texture, warm neutral colors, and many small handmade details.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Finished Size

  • Full diorama: about 12 in wide, 10 in deep, and 7 in tall.
  • Bunny: about 4.25 in tall seated, including ears.
  • Sofa: about 5.25 in wide, 2.25 in deep, and 2.25 in tall.
  • Armchair: about 2.75 in wide, 2.5 in deep, and 2.75 in tall.
  • Back wall: about 11.5 in wide and 6.25 in tall.
  • Left wall: about 9.5 in deep and 3.5 in tall.

Skill Level

Intermediate miniature amigurumi. The shapes are simple, but the project uses many small pieces, tight seams, surface stitching, and structured assembly. Beginners can complete it by working slowly and checking stitch counts often.

Materials

  • Sport weight or fine DK cotton yarn in cream, oatmeal, tan, medium brown, dark brown, warm beige, bunny beige, blush pink, sage green, dark green, teal, dusty blue, rust, brick red, black, white, and small accent colors for books.
  • 2.25 mm crochet hook for most pieces.
  • 2.0 mm crochet hook for tiny books, cups, facial details, and plant leaves.
  • Fiberfill stuffing.
  • Plastic canvas or firm cardboard for base, walls, sofa, chair, shelves, fireplace, and table inserts.
  • Tapestry needle.
  • Stitch markers.
  • Sewing pins.
  • Small amount of black embroidery thread.
  • Optional fabric glue for hidden stabilization only.
  • Optional wire for tall plant stems and lamp neck.

Abbreviations in US Terms

  • ch = chain
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • inc = 2 sc in same stitch
  • dec = single crochet 2 stitches together
  • BLO = back loop only
  • FLO = front loop only
  • MR = magic ring
  • FO = fasten off
  • RS = right side

Gauge and Texture Notes

Use tight stitches so the tiny furniture holds its shape. With sport weight cotton and a 2.25 mm hook, 8 sc and 9 rows should measure about 1 inch. Gauge does not need to be perfect, but all pieces should be worked with the same tension.

The photo shows a firm miniature room, not floppy amigurumi. For that reason, most rectangular pieces are crocheted as covers around plastic canvas. The crochet should fit snugly over the inserts so the walls, sofa arms, shelves, and table edges look straight.

Color Placement Guide

  • Floor: medium brown planks with darker brown seams.
  • Walls: warm cream or oatmeal.
  • Furniture frames: medium brown.
  • Cushions: cream and oatmeal.
  • Bunny: warm beige with darker ear tips and soft pink inner ears.
  • Rug: spiral stripes of cream, tan, and medium brown.
  • Plants: sage, dark green, and dusty green in tan or rust pots.
  • Fireplace: cream stone surround, medium brown mantel, black firebox, and tan log.

Pattern Notes

  • Work amigurumi pieces in continuous rounds unless a row instruction is given.
  • Use a stitch marker for the first stitch of every round.
  • For flat rectangles, ch 1 and turn at the end of each row unless stated otherwise.
  • Stuff tiny pieces lightly. Overstuffing will distort the miniature scale.
  • Leave long tails on furniture pieces for sewing unless the pattern says to weave in.

Mini Side Stack and Extra Floor Details

  3. Place the armchair on the right side, angled very slightly toward the coffee table.

  5. Place the fireplace in the center of the back wall.
  6. Place one bookshelf on each side of the fireplace.
  7. Place the bunny seated on the sofa with feet forward and book in hands.
  8. Place the tall lamp behind or beside the sofa near the bunny.
  9. Place the large plant near the front left corner and the succulent near the front right corner.

Sewing the Main Furniture in Place

For a display diorama, sew the furniture directly to the floor and walls. This makes the room durable and prevents the tiny pieces from shifting. Use matching yarn and small stitches hidden along lower edges.

  1. Sew the sofa base to the floor first.
  2. Sew the sofa back lightly to the left wall for extra support.
  3. Sew the armchair to the floor only, keeping it slightly angled.
  4. Sew the coffee table legs to the rug and floor underneath.
  5. Sew the fireplace flat to the back wall.
  6. Sew the bookshelves flat to the back wall.
  7. Sew plants to the floor or shelves after checking final placement.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Use black embroidery thread to make the bunny’s eyes between rounds 8 and 9 of the head, about 5 stitches apart. Make each eye with 2 tiny horizontal stitches. Add a short dark brown vertical nose stitch centered between the eyes, then add two small angled mouth stitches.

Add blush with pink yarn by making one tiny horizontal stitch under each eye. Sew the head firmly to the body, then sew the body to the sofa cushion so the bunny stays seated. Adjust the ears so they stand tall like the image.

Check every miniature item from front to back. Add books to empty shelves, attach the tea tray to the table, and secure each plant leaf cluster. The final look should be dense, cozy, and detailed, with no large blank areas on the back wall.

Care Notes

  • Keep the diorama dry and away from direct sunlight.
  • Do not machine wash because the walls and furniture contain firm inserts.
  • Spot clean only with a barely damp cloth.
  • Use a soft brush to remove dust from the rug, plants, books, and bunny ears.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • Base: flat, firm, and fully edged.
  • Walls: standing at a clean 90-degree angle.
  • Furniture: sofa, chair, table, shelves, and fireplace securely sewn.
  • Bunny: seated upright with book held in both arms.
  • Accessories: books, tea set, pillows, plants, basket, lamp, and picture attached.
  • Texture: plank lines, rug rings, shelf ledges, and fireplace arch visible.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

To preserve the miniature shape, store the diorama inside a display box or on a shelf with low handling. Dust it gently every few weeks using a clean makeup brush or small paintbrush. Brush from the top wall down toward the floor so dust does not settle behind the furniture.

If a plant leaf or tiny book bends, reshape it with your fingers and hold it in place for a few seconds. Avoid steam, soaking, or heavy sprays. For long-term storage, wrap the entire diorama loosely in acid-free tissue and place it in a sturdy box.
