This woodland Christmas market lodge diorama features a snowy round base, a cozy crochet market booth, a badger vendor in a red Santa hat, a fox visitor, a white bunny, a squirrel on a wooden sled, pine trees, a decorated Christmas tree, tiny gifts, pastries, mugs, garlands, a wreath, warm lights, and a snowy roof.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Skill Level
This is an intermediate amigurumi and diorama pattern. A confident beginner can complete it by working slowly through each section. Most parts use simple stitches, but the lodge assembly, tiny accessories, and facial shaping need patience and careful pinning before sewing.
- Main skills used: magic ring, single crochet, increases, decreases, working in rows, working in rounds, color changes, sewing, embroidery, and light shaping.
- US crochet terms are used throughout.
- Finished size: about 15 in wide, 11 in tall, and 8 in deep when made with worsted weight yarn and a 3.0 mm hook.
Materials
- Worsted weight cotton or acrylic yarn in white, cream, tan, beige, medium brown, dark brown, gray, black, orange, rust, green, red, gold, and small amounts of blue and yellow.
- 3.0 mm crochet hook for animals, lodge panels, and accessories.
- 3.5 mm crochet hook for the snowy base and roof snow pieces.
- Fiberfill stuffing.
- Plastic canvas, thin cardboard, or foam board for stiffening the lodge walls, roof, counter, base circle, and sled.
- 8 mm black safety eyes for fox and bunny.
- 6 mm black safety eyes for squirrel and badger, or black embroidery thread.
- Black, white, and pink embroidery thread.
- Yarn needle, sewing pins, stitch markers, scissors, and hot glue or fabric glue if desired.
- Optional: battery micro LED strand for the garland and Christmas tree.
Gauge and Tension
Gauge is not critical for this decorative project, but tight stitches are important. Use a hook small enough that stuffing does not show. For the sample scale, 6 sc and 7 rounds measure about 1 in. If your pieces grow larger, your lodge and animals will still work as long as all parts use the same yarn weight.
Abbreviations
- MR: magic ring
- ch: chain
- sl st: slip stitch
- sc: single crochet
- hdc: half double crochet
- dc: double crochet
- inc: 2 sc in the same stitch
- dec: invisible single crochet decrease
- BLO: back loop only
- FLO: front loop only
- st: stitch
- R: round or row
- FO: fasten off
General Notes
- Work amigurumi pieces in continuous rounds unless the pattern says to join.
- Stuff heads, bodies, tails, and limbs firmly but not so tightly that the stitches stretch.
- For flat panels, ch 1 and turn at the end of each row unless stated otherwise.
- Use stitch markers on the first stitch of every round.
- For a clean market lodge, block the flat crochet panels before sewing them around plastic canvas.
- The image has a soft handmade texture. Do not over-stiffen the animals; only stiffen the lodge, counter, sled, and flat base.
Snowy Round Base
The base is a large white circle with a slightly raised edge. It supports the lodge, animals, pine trees, lamp post, gifts, sled, and decorated tree. Use a 3.5 mm hook and white yarn. Work in joined rounds for a flatter circle.

Base Stiffener
Cut a circle of foam board or plastic canvas slightly smaller than the crochet base. Sew or glue it underneath the base, leaving the outer crochet edge soft. This keeps the snowy scene flat while still allowing the rounded white crochet edge to look plush.
Gray Footprints
Make 10 small gray footprints and sew them in a curved trail across the front right side of the base, as shown in the image.
- For each footprint: MR, 5 sc in ring, sl st to close, FO with a long tail.
- Flatten each tiny circle into an oval while sewing.
- Place the prints in pairs, about 0.5 in apart, curving from center front toward the Christmas tree.
Woodland Market Lodge
The lodge is the main structure. It has a tan back wall, two side posts, an open front, a deep counter, shelves filled with tiny market goods, a triangular roof, thick white snow on top, green garlands, red berries, gold lights, and a wreath under the roof peak.
Back Wall Panel
Use tan yarn and a 3.0 mm hook. This panel is rectangular at the bottom and shaped into a gable at the top.

Cut matching plastic canvas for the back wall. Whipstitch the crochet panel to the canvas using tan yarn. Keep the stitches neat because the back wall is visible behind the badger vendor.
Side Walls
Make two side walls in tan yarn. These create the depth of the stall and help hold the roof at the correct angle.
- R1: ch 19, sc in second ch from hook and across. 18 sts.
- R2 to R28: sc across. 18 sts.
- FO, leaving a long sewing tail.
Stiffen each side wall with plastic canvas. Sew one side wall to each side of the back wall, keeping the bottom edges even. The side walls should project forward, making an open booth shape.
Front Counter
The front counter is cream on top and tan on the front. It sits across the lower front opening and hides the badger body below the chest.
Counter Top
- With cream yarn, ch 49.
- R1: sc in second ch from hook and across. 48 sts.
- R2 to R8: sc across. 48 sts.
- FO, leaving a long tail.

Sew the counter top to the upper edge of the counter front at a right angle. Add a strip of plastic canvas inside the top and front. Sew the counter across the open front of the lodge, about 12 rows up from the base.
Brown Corner Posts
Make four chunky posts in medium brown. Two stand at the front corners, and two sit at the back edges inside the lodge.
- R1: MR, 6 sc. 6 sts.
- R2: inc around. 12 sts.
- R3 to R28: sc around. 12 sts.
- Stuff lightly, FO, and close the top.

Sew one post to each front side of the counter opening. Sew the back posts along the side wall seams. The posts should frame the market stall and make the roof appear supported.
Wood Texture Lines
Using dark brown yarn, embroider horizontal lines across the back wall every 4 rows. Make each line loose and slightly uneven so it looks like wooden boards. Add a few vertical short stitches on the side walls to create the handmade log-cabin look.
Roof and Snow Cap
The roof has two brown sloped panels with a thick white snowy layer on top. The white snow curves over the front edge and forms a rounded, soft winter roof like the image.
Brown Roof Panel, Make 2
- With dark brown yarn, ch 57.
- R1: sc in second ch from hook and across. 56 sts.
- R2 to R18: sc across. 56 sts.

Sew one white snow panel on top of each brown roof panel, letting the white edge overhang the front and side edges by about 0.25 in. Sew the two roof panels together along one long edge to make a peak.
Roof Assembly
Place the roof over the lodge so the peak sits above the gable. Sew the lower roof edges to the top of the side walls and back gable. The snowy overhang should be visible from the front and should curve gently downward.
Garlands, Wreath, Lights, and Berries
Front Green Garland

Interior Shelves and Market Goods
The booth interior has two small shelves filled with mugs, rolls, jars, gift boxes, and gingerbread decorations. These tiny pieces make the lodge look warm and busy. Sew all accessories securely so they do not fall when the diorama is moved.

Assembly Layout
Place all pieces before sewing. The lodge sits at the back center of the snowy base. The roof should almost touch the upper edge of the diorama when viewed from the front. The booth counter faces forward, and the badger stands directly behind it.
- Sew or glue the lodge to the back center of the snow base.
- Attach tall pine trees behind the lodge on the left and right sides.
- Place the lamp post on the left front side.
- Sew the squirrel sled in front of the lamp post, angled slightly toward the lodge.
- Place the fox near the center front, facing the counter.
- Place the bunny to the right of the fox, also facing the booth.
- Attach the decorated Christmas tree to the front right edge.
- Add gifts near the Christmas tree and near the right side of the lodge.
- Sew the green basket beside the bunny.
- Arrange mugs, rolls, cakes, and the gingerbread house inside the booth and on the counter.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Pin every character before sewing. The fox should stand with the tail balancing it from behind. The bunny should lean forward slightly as if greeting the vendor. The squirrel should sit low on the sled with the curled tail visible from the front.
- Embroider fox eyebrows with dark brown yarn if desired.
- Add a tiny white highlight stitch near each eye for a lively expression.
- Use black yarn for all noses, except the bunny, which can have a pale pink or gray nose.
- Sew scarves after the heads are attached so they sit naturally around the necks.
- Trim loose yarn ends only after the entire scene is complete.
Care Notes
This diorama is decorative and not intended for babies or pets because it includes small sewn accessories, stiffeners, and optional lights. Keep it on a shelf, table, or holiday display area where the pieces will not be pulled or crushed.
- Spot clean only with a slightly damp cloth.
- Do not machine wash because the lodge and base contain stiffening material.
- Keep away from candles, fireplaces, and heat sources.
- If using lights, choose battery-operated micro LEDs only.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The snowy base lies flat and the edge is smooth.
- The lodge is centered and firmly attached.
- The roof snow overhangs both sides evenly.
- The wreath is centered under the roof peak.
- The badger is visible behind the counter.
- The fox, bunny, and squirrel are securely sewn to the base.
- The lamp post stands straight.
- All gifts, pastries, mugs, berries, lights, and bows are attached.
- The gray footprints curve across the front snow area.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Dust the diorama gently with a soft brush. For small stains, dab with cool water and a mild soap solution, then blot dry with a towel. Avoid soaking any part of the lodge, roof, sled, or base because internal stiffeners may bend.
Store the finished crochet scene in a large box with tissue paper around the trees and roof. Do not compress the animals or garlands. If the roof snow flattens during storage, reshape it by hand and allow it to rest upright for a few hours.
