This cheerful crochet set features Tom as a large gray cat doll wearing blue summer overalls, a navy-and-white striped shirt, sneakers, and a brown crossbody bag. Jerry sits playfully on Tom’s head with tiny yellow suspenders. The full scene includes a straw hat, picnic basket, camera bag, red bow, fish patches, flowers, and seaside-inspired details.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern is written in US crochet terms and is designed as a detailed amigurumi-style tutorial. The main doll is worked mostly in continuous rounds, while clothing, accessories, facial pieces, and decorative appliqués are made separately and sewn on carefully.
The finished look should be soft, rounded, and playful. Tom has a large oval head, tall triangular ears with pink centers, yellow oval eyes, a white muzzle, white paws, a gray tail, blue overalls, striped shirt sleeves, and lace-up sneakers. Jerry is much smaller and sits securely on the top of Tom’s head.
Finished Size
- Tom doll: about 13–15 inches tall when made with sport or DK cotton yarn and a 2.5 mm hook.
- Jerry doll: about 3.5–4 inches tall.
- Straw hat: about 5.5–6 inches across.
- Camera bag: about 2 inches wide.
- Picnic basket: about 2.5 inches wide.
Skill Level
Intermediate. Beginners with basic amigurumi experience can follow this pattern slowly. You should know how to crochet in continuous rounds, increase, decrease, change colors, sew small pieces, embroider simple lines, and shape stuffed parts neatly.
Materials
- DK cotton or cotton-blend yarn in gray, white, cream, pink, yellow, navy, denim blue, light blue, brown, tan, red, black, orange, pale yellow, and small amounts of accent colors.
- 2.25 mm crochet hook for tight small details.
- 2.5 mm crochet hook for main body parts.
- Fiberfill stuffing.
- Safety eyes or oval black buttons for Tom’s eyes, about 12–14 mm.
- Small black safety nose for Tom, about 10–12 mm.
- Small black safety nose for Jerry, about 5–6 mm.
- Black embroidery thread for mouths, eyebrows, whiskers, shoe stars, and camera detail.
- White embroidery thread for shoe laces and eye highlights.
- Yarn needle, stitch markers, sewing pins, scissors.

- Optional: thin cardboard or plastic canvas for the base of bags and hat brim.
Abbreviations
- MR: magic ring
- ch: chain
- st: stitch
- sl st: slip stitch
- sc: single crochet
- hdc: half double crochet
- dc: double crochet
- inc: 2 sc in same stitch
- dec: invisible decrease over next 2 stitches
- BLO: back loop only
- FLO: front loop only
- FO: fasten off
- R: round or row
Important Construction Notes
- Work most amigurumi pieces in continuous rounds unless the pattern says otherwise.
- Stuff firmly, but do not overstuff. The head should be round and smooth, while the limbs should stay soft enough to pose naturally.
- Use pins before sewing every part. The character expression depends heavily on eye, muzzle, ear, and eyebrow placement.
- For a clean look, keep all color changes at the back or underside of the work.
- The overalls are crocheted as clothing panels and sewn onto the body, creating the same layered look shown in the image.
Gauge
Gauge is not extremely strict for amigurumi, but tight stitches are important. With a 2.5 mm hook, 7 sc and 7 rounds should measure about 1 inch. If stuffing shows through your stitches, use a smaller hook.
Tom’s Head
Use gray yarn and a 2.5 mm hook. The head is a wide rounded oval, slightly taller than it is deep. Stuff gradually as you work so the face stays smooth and full.

- Attach Jerry on top of Tom’s head, centered between the ears.
- Sew the red bow near Tom’s right ear.
- Add eyebrows, mouth, whisker marks, shoe laces, and shoe stars last.
- Place the crossbody bag diagonally across Tom’s front and secure it with hidden stitches.
- Arrange the hat, picnic basket, and camera bag as separate display accessories.
Care Notes
Spot clean the finished crochet pieces with a soft damp cloth. Avoid soaking the doll if you used buttons, safety eyes, cardboard inserts, or glued details. Let the pieces air dry completely before storing or displaying.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Tom’s eyes are even and placed above the white muzzle.
- The pink inner ears are sewn flat and centered.
- The overalls sit smoothly over the striped shirt.
- Buttons, patches, flowers, and fish appliqués are secure.
- Jerry sits upright on Tom’s head.
- The bow, bag, shoes, basket, camera, and straw hat match the playful summer theme.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Keep the doll away from direct sunlight for long periods, especially if you use cotton yarn in bright colors. Store Tom, Jerry, and the accessories in a clean box or fabric bag. Add tissue paper around the ears, bow, and basket handle to help them keep their shape.
For dust, use a soft makeup brush or a gentle lint roller. For small stains, dab with cool water and mild soap. Do not twist or wring the crochet fabric. Reshape the face, ears, shoes, and bags while damp, then allow everything to dry flat.
