Gauge and Working Notes

For a firm amigurumi fabric, work tight stitches with a hook smaller than your yarn label recommends. The pictured bunny has smooth, dense rounds with no visible stuffing. A gauge of about 7 sc and 7 rounds per 1 in / 2.5 cm works well for the doll.

Work the bunny parts in continuous spirals unless a section says to join. Use a stitch marker for the first stitch of each round. Stuff the head and body firmly, but keep the arms and lower ears only lightly stuffed so they stay soft and rounded.

The proportions are important for the pictured style. The head is large and round, the ears are long and oval, the body is shorter than the head, and the skirt flares outward from a fitted mint bodice. The legs are straight, slightly tapered, and visible below the skirt.

Main Bunny Head

Use cream yarn and a 2.5 mm hook. Stuff gradually as you work. The head should be a wide round ball with a gentle lower cheek area where the pink muzzle will sit.

Optional Pink Inner Ear Embroidery

Using pale pink yarn and a tapestry needle, stitch a long oval blush shape on the front center of each ear from Rnd 12 to Rnd 30. Keep the stitches soft and spaced so the cream base still shows through.

Handle

With mint yarn, ch 18 for the large can or ch 14 for the small can. Sl st in each chain across. Sew one end near the upper side of the can and the other near the lower side, forming a curved handle.

Garden Carrots

Make 3 carrots in orange and pink-red tones, with leafy green tops. They are tied together in the image, so keep them narrow and slightly different lengths.

Carrot Body

  1. With orange or pink yarn, 4 sc in MR. (4)
  2. Rnd 2: sc around. (4)
  3. Rnd 3: sc 1, inc; repeat twice. (6)

Carrot Leaves

For each carrot, attach green yarn to the top. Ch 7, sl st back down the chain, sl st into the carrot top. Repeat 3–5 times. Use both dark green and light green for a natural leafy bunch.

Bundle the carrots together. Wrap tan or cream yarn around the center 5 times and tie a small bow. Leave short yarn ends hanging, as shown beside the vegetables in the picture.

Leafy Greens Beside the Carrots

Make 4 larger leaves to sit behind the carrots. They should be dark green, oval, and slightly textured.

  1. Ch 9.
  2. Starting in second ch from hook, sl st 1, sc 1, hdc 1, dc 3, hdc 1, 3 sc in last ch.
  3. Work along the other side: hdc 1, dc 3, hdc 1, sc 1, sl st 1.
  4. FO with a long tail.

Embroider one center vein on each leaf with lighter green yarn. Sew the leaves together at the base and tuck them behind the carrot bundle.

Facial Blush

The bunny has soft pink cheek marks and warm inner ear color. Use pink yarn for child-safe embroidery or a tiny amount of textile-safe blush for display dolls.

  • Place cheek blush on both sides of the muzzle, around Rnds 20–22 of the head.
  • Use 3 short horizontal stitches per cheek.
  • Keep the color soft so it matches the gentle garden look.

Attaching the Head and Ears

Pin the head to the body before sewing. The head should sit centered and slightly forward so the bunny looks upward and cheerful. Sew through the neck stitches several times for strength.

Pin the ears on top of the head between Rnds 4–8, spaced about 8–10 stitches apart. The ears should stand tall and lean slightly outward. Sew each ear base securely in an oval shape, passing through the flattened base and head stitches multiple times.

Dress Decoration Placement

After the dress is on the body, arrange the floral details before sewing. This helps the dress match the pictured layout.

  • Sew the small sunflower at the center front of the bodice.
  • Place two small daisies on each side of the sunflower.
  • Sew one medium daisy near the lower center of the skirt.
  • Add two daisies on the left side of the skirt and two on the right side.
  • Keep the cream scalloped hem visible and do not cover it with flowers.

Bag Placement

Put the bag on the bunny after the dress flowers are sewn. The strap crosses diagonally from one shoulder to the opposite side of the waist. The bag rests on the lower right side of the skirt.

  1. Place the strap over the bunny’s shoulder.
  2. Pin the bag to the skirt front at hip level.
  3. Sew the back of the bag to the skirt using small hidden stitches.
  4. Sew the strap at the shoulder and side waist so it does not slide.

Garden Hat Display Option

The straw hat in the picture is displayed beside the bunny rather than worn on the head. To match the image, place the hat flat to the bunny’s left side with the mint ties hanging down. If you prefer a wearable hat, make the crown one round larger before starting the brim.

Accessory Arrangement

The accessories help create the garden scene. Position them around the bunny for the same visual balance as the picture.

  • Place the wide straw hat to the bunny’s left side.
  • Place the larger watering can near the lower left foot.
  • Place the smaller watering can to the bunny’s right side near shoulder height.
  • Place the carrot bundle and leafy greens near the lower right side.
  • Keep the sunflower bag on the bunny, not beside it.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Check that the head is centered, the ears are upright, and the muzzle is level. Sew the eyes close together above the muzzle and add black pupils. Embroider the pink smile under the muzzle with a gentle curve.

Sew arms to the sides over the dress sleeves. Sew legs firmly under the skirt. Add sandals after the legs are attached so the feet sit flat. Secure every flower, leaf, and accessory with small stitches hidden behind petals or edges.

  • Use cream yarn tails for cream body seams.
  • Use mint yarn tails for dress, sandals, and hat ribbon seams.
  • Use brown yarn for bag strap attachment.
  • Use pink thread for smile, cheek marks, and toe lines.

Care Notes

Spot clean the bunny with cool water and mild soap. Avoid soaking if you used blush, safety eyes, wire, or glued details. Press gently with a towel and reshape the ears, skirt, hat brim, and accessories while damp.

Let the doll air dry fully before storing. Do not tumble dry. If the skirt hem curls, pin the scallops flat while drying. For display dolls, keep the garden accessories together in a small cloth bag when not arranged around the bunny.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • Head is round, large, and securely sewn to the body.
  • Ears are tall, oval, and slightly angled outward.
  • Pink muzzle is centered and lightly raised.
  • Eyes sit close together above the muzzle.
  • Mint dress has a fitted bodice and wide flared skirt.
  • Cream scalloped hem is even around the skirt.
  • Daisies and sunflowers are sewn in balanced positions.
  • Bag strap crosses diagonally and bag rests at the hip.
  • Sandals show cream toes with pink toe lines.
  • Hat, watering cans, and carrots match the garden theme.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

For long-term display, keep the bunny away from direct sunlight to protect the mint, pink, yellow, and tan yarn colors. Dust gently with a soft brush. Do not pull on the flowers, bag strap, ear decorations, or carrot leaves.

If the doll is made for a child, replace small beads with embroidered details and avoid wire. Check seams often, especially around the ears, arms, bag strap, and accessories. Repair loose stitches immediately with matching yarn.

Store the bunny upright or flat with the ears supported. Place tissue paper under the skirt to preserve the flared shape. Keep the hat brim flat and the watering cans separate so the handles do not bend.

Finished Garden Bunny

Your finished garden bunny should have the same sweet handmade look as the image: a cream bunny with long ears, a soft pink face, a mint floral dress, sunflower bag, sandals, straw hat, ladybug, watering cans, carrots, and leafy garden details. Shape every piece gently by hand, and the final doll will feel cheerful, soft, and ready for a sunny garden day.
