Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Pattern Overview

This pattern is written in US crochet terms. The doll is worked mostly in continuous spiral rounds, with flat pieces used for clothing panels, facial patches, flowers, book pages, and garden accessories. Use a stitch marker at the first stitch of each round.

The finished doll sits neatly on a shelf or table, with long dangling legs, oversized shoes, slim black arms, a rounded belly, a large expressive face, and many small decorative pieces. The accessories are designed separately so they can be arranged exactly like the photo.

Finished Size

  • Seated height: about 13 inches from shoe sole to top of hat.
  • Full length: about 17 inches from shoes to hat when legs are stretched.
  • Head width: about 3.75 inches.
  • Body width: about 3.25 inches across the belly.
  • Tool bag: about 2.25 inches wide.
  • Straw hat accessory: about 4 inches across the brim.

Materials

  • DK weight cotton or cotton blend yarn in black, cream, white, tan, beige, olive green, forest green, brown, mustard yellow, gray, orange, red, light blue, pink, yellow, and small amounts of dark brown.
  • 2.25 mm crochet hook for the doll and tight amigurumi pieces.
  • 2.5 mm crochet hook for the vest, book, mat, and straw hat brim.
  • Fiberfill stuffing.
  • Two 8 mm black safety eyes, or black embroidered oval eyes.
  • Yarn needle.
  • Stitch markers.
  • Small scissors.
  • Sewing pins for placement.
  • Optional: thin floral wire for the hat hair tufts and tool bag strap support.
  • Optional: fabric glue for tiny flowers, seed tag, and shoe laces.

Abbreviations

  • ch: chain
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sc: single crochet
  • hdc: half double crochet
  • dc: double crochet
  • tr: treble crochet
  • inc: 2 sc in the same stitch
  • dec: invisible single crochet decrease
  • BLO: back loop only
  • FLO: front loop only
  • MR: magic ring
  • R: row
  • Rnd: round
  • FO: fasten off
  • st or sts: stitch or stitches

Gauge and Texture

For the pictured look, crochet tightly so the stuffing does not show. A 2.25 mm hook with DK yarn should give about 7 sc and 7 rounds per inch. If your stitches are loose, go down one hook size.

The doll should feel firm but not hard. Stuff the head, muzzle, shoes, and belly strongly. Stuff the arms and ears lightly so they keep a soft handmade curve. The tiny accessories should be firm enough to hold their shapes without bulging.

Important Construction Notes

  • Work in continuous rounds unless the pattern says to join.
  • Use invisible decreases for a smooth amigurumi surface.
  • Change colors on the final yarn-over of the stitch before the new color begins.
  • Pin all face pieces before sewing. The character expression depends on correct placement.
  • The long ears sit slightly behind the eye area and hang down beside the cheeks.
  • The vest is made separately and sewn onto the body after the arms are attached.
  • The tool bag strap crosses from the left shoulder to the right hip, matching the photo.

Facial Placement

Correct placement is the most important part of this project. Use pins before sewing. The muzzle should sit low and forward. The eyes should sit high, close together, and slightly tilted inward. The nose should be centered on the top front of the muzzle.

  • Place the cream muzzle over Rnds 14 to 23 of the head, centered at the front.
  • The top edge of the muzzle should overlap the lower edge of the white eye panels.
  • Sew the side cheek ovals on the left and right sides of the muzzle.
  • Place white eye panels above the muzzle with a narrow black line between them.
  • Sew black pupils vertically onto the white panels before sewing the panels to the head.
  • Sew the black nose to the center front of the muzzle.
  • Sew the red mouth underneath the muzzle, letting only the lower red curve show.
  • Attach ears to the sides of the head between Rnds 10 and 13, slightly behind the eyes.

Attaching the Head

  1. Place the head on the body with the muzzle pointing forward.
  2. The head should lean very slightly forward, not backward.
  3. Use the long body tail to sew around the neck opening twice.
  4. Add extra stuffing between the body and head before closing the final stitches.
  5. Sew the cream collar around the front neck, just under the muzzle.
  6. Hide all yarn tails inside the body.

Attaching Arms and Vest

  1. Pin one arm to each side of the upper body at Rnds 22 to 24.
  2. The beige sleeve cap should touch the beige shirt area.
  3. The black arm should hang downward beside the vest.
  4. Sew each arm securely with the glove thumbs facing inward or slightly forward.
  5. Place the vest over the body.
  6. Sew the vest lightly at the shoulders, side seams, and lower front edges.
  7. Keep the center front open so the shirt and collar remain visible.

Adding the Tool Bag

  1. Put the green bag at the doll’s right hip.
  2. Cross the tan strap from the left shoulder to the right side of the waist.
  3. Sew the strap lightly at the shoulder and bag edge so it does not slide.
  4. Tuck the carrot and trowel into the bag opening.
  5. Sew the seed packet tag to the bag front.
  6. Let the carrot leaves and gray trowel head show above the rim.

Hat Placement

  1. Place the olive green hat on top of the head, slightly forward.
  2. The black band should sit just above the white eye panels.
  3. Sew the hat to the head around the lower edge.
  4. Sew the two top bumps firmly to the crown.
  5. Add the black hair tufts at the front.
  6. Sew one small daisy near the right side of the hat band.

Accessory Arrangement

Arrange the accessories around the seated doll to match the garden tea scene. Place the teacup and saucer on the left, the spoon near the book, the open notebook on the floral mat, and the straw hat on the right side of the doll.

  • Place the teacup on the saucer and tack together with a few hidden stitches.
  • Place the spoon diagonally near the open notebook.
  • Set the floral mat flat, then place the notebook on top.
  • Place the straw hat to the doll’s right, brim flat against the surface.
  • Add the tiny bee and daisy to the hat band area.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Check the face from the front before tying off final knots. The expression should look friendly and slightly curious, with tall white eyes, centered black pupils, a raised black nose, and a small red mouth under the cream muzzle.

  • Embroider two short black smile lines at the lower sides of the muzzle if desired.
  • Add a few tan stitches under the nose to shape the snout.
  • Brush the ears gently downward with your fingers so they hang naturally.
  • Check that the hat, ears, vest, and tool bag are balanced from the front view.

Care Notes

Spot clean only. Use a damp cloth and mild soap on dirty areas. Do not soak the doll because the small accessories, embroidered details, and stuffed pieces may lose shape. Let the project air dry fully before displaying again.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • Both sneakers are stuffed evenly and laced with white yarn.
  • Legs hang straight and the tan cuffs sit above the black legs.
  • Vest is open at the front and pockets are decorated.
  • Tool bag sits at the right hip with carrot, trowel, and seed tag.
  • Hat has black band, top bumps, hair tufts, and side daisy.
  • Notebook, mat, teacup, saucer, spoon, and straw hat are complete.
  • All yarn tails are hidden securely.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Store the doll away from direct sunlight to protect the green, yellow, red, and brown yarn colors. Keep it in a dry place with good airflow. If displaying on a wooden table or shelf, place a clean fabric layer underneath to prevent dust from collecting on the accessories.

For long-term storage, wrap the doll loosely in acid-free tissue or clean cotton fabric. Do not compress the hat, nose, or shoes. Keep the teacup, notebook, straw hat, and spoon in a small labeled pouch so the tiny pieces stay together.
