Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern is worked mainly with small needles and DK weight yarn so the fabric becomes firm enough for stuffing. The toy is shaped with simple increases and decreases, then finished with sewn-on facial patches, embroidered details, and miniature accessories.
The corgi has a large head, a short compact body, small white paws, wide triangular ears, and a garden outfit with the same soft handmade style shown in the picture. The clothing is designed to sit snugly against the body, with the green overalls covering the lower body and the blue Fair Isle sweater showing at the collar, sleeves, and upper chest.

Construction Notes
The corgi is made in separate pieces: head, muzzle, ears, body, arms, legs, shoes, sweater details, overalls, satchel, hat, watering can, and trowel. Sew slowly and check placement often. The pictured look depends on a large rounded head, high ears, centered white face blaze, and snug garden clothing.
Stuff each part gradually. For the head, use more stuffing at the cheeks and forehead. For the body and legs, use enough stuffing to hold the standing seated shape, but keep the joints soft so the arms and legs sit naturally.
Main Corgi Head
Work in the round with corgi orange yarn and US 3 needles. The head is a rounded oval with the widest point across the cheeks. Leave a long tail at the end for closing and shaping.
- Rnd 1: CO 8 sts. Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist.
- Rnd 2: kfb in each st around. 16 sts.
- Rnd 3: k all sts.
- Rnd 4: rep k1, kfb around. 24 sts.
- Rnd 5: k all sts.
- Rnd 6: rep k2, kfb around. 32 sts.
- Rnd 7: k all sts.
- Rnd 8: rep k3, kfb around. 40 sts.

- Rnd 13: k all sts.
- Rnd 14: rep k6, kfb around. 64 sts.
- Rnds 15-27: k all sts for the full round cheek section.
- Rnd 28: rep k6, k2tog around. 56 sts.
- Rnd 29: k all sts.

- Rnd 34: rep k3, k2tog around. 32 sts.
- Rnd 35: k all sts.
- Rnd 36: rep k2, k2tog around. 24 sts.
- Pause to insert safety eyes between Rnds 20 and 21, spaced 14 sts apart. Place them slightly above the muzzle area so the corgi has the wide-eyed look from the photo.
- Stuff the head firmly, adding extra stuffing to the cheek area below the eyes.
- Rnd 37: rep k1, k2tog around. 16 sts.
- Rnd 38: k2tog around. 8 sts.
- Cut yarn, thread through remaining sts, pull closed, and weave the tail inside.
White Muzzle Patch
The muzzle is an oval knitted patch sewn to the lower front of the head. It should sit below the eyes and slightly overlap the lower end of the white blaze.
- With warm white yarn and US 3 needles, CO 6 sts.
- Row 1, WS: p all sts.
- Row 2, RS: kfb, k4, kfb. 8 sts.
- Row 3: p all sts.

- BO all sts, leaving a 16 inch tail.
Lightly stuff the center of the muzzle while sewing. Sew it to the head from Rnd 22 down to Rnd 33, centered between the eyes. Keep the top edge softly rounded and the lower edge slightly full.
White Forehead Blaze
The white blaze runs from the top of the muzzle up the forehead. It is narrow at the top, wider in the middle, and blends into the muzzle at the bottom.
- With warm white yarn, CO 5 sts.
- Row 1, WS: p all sts.
- Row 2, RS: k1, kfb, k1, kfb, k1. 7 sts.
- Rows 3-6: work st st.

- Row 21: ssk, k3, k2tog. 5 sts.
- Row 22: p all sts.

Nose and Mouth
Use black yarn or embroidery floss. The nose is a rounded oval sitting on the upper center of the white muzzle. It should be bold, slightly raised, and wider than it is tall.
- Mark a nose area about 7 sts wide and 4 rows tall on the upper muzzle.
- Satin stitch horizontally across the marked oval until the shape is fully covered.
- Add two short vertical stitches over the center to give the nose a soft rounded surface.
- From the lower center of the nose, embroider one straight black line down for 3 rows.
- At the bottom of that line, embroider a small relaxed V shape for the mouth.
Large Corgi Ears
The ears are oversized triangles with orange outer pieces and pale pink inner panels. They stand high and tilt outward, giving the toy the recognizable corgi shape.
Outer Ear, Make 2

- Row 17: ssk, k2, k2tog. 4 sts.
- Row 19: ssk, k2tog. 2 sts.
- Fasten off.
Sew one inner ear panel onto each outer ear, leaving an orange border of about 2 sts visible all the way around. Lightly steam the ears by hovering steam nearby, never pressing flat. Fold the bottom edge slightly into a shallow curve and stitch it closed so each ear cups forward.
Sew ears to the head between Rnds 13 and 22. Place them high and wide, about 9 sts away from the center blaze on each side. Angle each ear outward at about 35 to 45 degrees.

Facial Shaping and Eye Indentations
To make the face look rounded and expressive, add gentle eye shaping after the head is stuffed and the eyes are attached. Use a long strand of corgi orange yarn and a tapestry needle.
- Insert the needle at the back lower head and bring it out beside the first eye.
- Take a tiny stitch beside the eye and return to the back lower head.
- Pull gently until the eye sinks slightly into the face.
- Repeat for the second eye, keeping both sides even.
- Knot securely and bury yarn tails inside the head.
This shaping should be subtle. The eyes in the image are glossy and round, with the orange face curving smoothly around them.
Attaching Head to Body
Pin the head to the body before sewing. The muzzle should face straight forward, and the ears should sit evenly. The head is large, so sew around the neck twice for strength.
- Place the body upright with the sweater collar centered.
- Set the head on top so the lower head touches the collar.
- Use warm white or orange yarn, depending on the contact area.
- Sew around the neck with small ladder stitches.
- After the first round of stitching, check the head angle.
- Make a second round of stitches, pulling firmly but not puckering the fabric.
Overall Button Placement
The tan buttons are an important visual detail. Place one button at each top corner of the bib where the straps meet the front. The buttons should sit just below the sweater yoke and above the ribbed green bib.
- Left button: sew through the strap end and bib corner.
- Right button: sew through the strap end and bib corner.
- Shoe buttons: sew one small tan button on the outer side of each brown shoe.
- Satchel button: sew one darker brown button at the lower center of the flap.
Fair Isle Color Placement Tips
For the closest visual match, keep the Fair Isle small and neat. The picture shows cream bands with dark blue geometric marks on both the sweater and hat. Do not make the motifs too large, or the outfit will look heavier than the original.
- Use cream as the background color in the yoke band.
- Use navy for small V shapes and single-stitch diamonds.
- Use denim blue as the main sweater and hat color.
- Keep floats loose across the back of the work.
- If a float covers more than 5 sts, catch it once at the back.
Garden Carrot Embroidery on Shoes
The little carrot motif on each shoe gives the toy its garden theme. Work this detail after the shoes are sewn onto the feet.
- Thread orange embroidery yarn on a tapestry needle.
- Make one vertical straight stitch about 4 rows tall.
- Add two shorter diagonal stitches beside it to form a tapered carrot.
- Use green yarn to make two tiny leaf stitches at the top.
- Repeat on the second shoe, matching the angle and size.
Seaming and Stuffing Advice
Small toys look best when seams are firm and tidy. Use mattress stitch for flat pieces and ladder stitch for attaching shaped parts. Keep yarn tails long enough to secure pieces well.
- Do not overstuff the ears; they should remain flat and lightly curved.
- Stuff the muzzle only a little so it rises softly from the face.
- Stuff the head more firmly than the body for a smooth round shape.
- Keep the arms lightly stuffed so they sit naturally at the sides.
- Stuff the shoes enough to make the feet round and stable.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
- Sew the head securely to the body, checking that the white blaze is centered.
- Sew ears high on the head, angled outward and slightly forward.
- Attach the muzzle and blaze smoothly, with no visible puckers.
- Embroider the black oval nose, center mouth line, and small V mouth.
- Sew arms at the sides, with sweater sleeves visible.
- Sew legs to the lower body and fit the green overalls over them.
- Add overall straps, front buttons, and shoe buttons.
- Place the satchel strap diagonally across the chest and tack it in place.
- Arrange the hat, watering can, and trowel as separate display accessories.
Care Notes
Spot clean the finished corgi with a cool damp cloth. Avoid soaking if you used safety eyes, buttons, or delicate embroidery. Let the toy dry flat in a shaded place. Gently reshape the ears, muzzle, and shoes while damp if needed.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The head is large, round, and centered on the body.
- The white blaze runs straight down the forehead into the muzzle.
- The ears are wide, triangular, and evenly angled.
- The blue Fair Isle sweater shows at collar, sleeves, and upper chest.
- The green overalls have visible vertical rib texture.
- The satchel crosses from shoulder to opposite hip.
- The shoes have white fronts, carrot embroidery, and side buttons.
- The hat has a blue brim, cream motif band, and small flower cluster.
- The watering can and trowel are small enough to look like accessories, not full-size props.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Store the corgi away from direct sunlight to protect the orange, blue, and green yarn colors. If dust collects on the stitches, use a soft brush and move in the direction of the knit fabric. Keep the satchel strap and hat flowers from being pulled, since they are small decorative pieces.
For long-term display, place the toy upright with light support behind the body. Do not compress the ears under heavy objects. If the overalls loosen over time, tighten the strap stitches at the back and re-secure the front buttons with matching thread.
