Construction Notes

The toy is built as a dressed bunny. The legs and lower body are worked in mustard pants first, then the upper body changes to cream to create the turtleneck sweater base. The head is knit separately in gray and joined after shaping the muzzle and face.

The vest, shoes, bag, sleep mask, beanie, pumpkin, cup, and spoon are separate pieces. This gives the finished bunny the layered look shown in the image. Keep your stuffing firm but not hard so the face stays round and soft.

  • Use tight tension so stuffing does not show through the knitted fabric.
  • Stuff small parts gradually as you knit, especially legs, arms, and ears.
  • When changing colors, twist yarns neatly on the inside to prevent holes.
  • For a clean toy finish, weave all yarn tails inside the body whenever possible.

Legs and Mustard Textured Pants

Make two identical legs. These begin at the bottom of the pant leg, just above the brown shoes. Work in the round using mustard yarn.

First Leg

  1. CO 18 sts in mustard. Join in the round, being careful not to twist.
  2. Rnds 1-4: k1, p1 around for a ribbed cuff. 18 sts.
  3. Rnd 5: kfb, k8, kfb, k8. 20 sts.
  4. Rnd 6: knit all sts.
  5. Rnd 7: p2, k4, p2, k4, p2, k4, p2. This begins the subtle woven texture.
  6. Rnd 8: knit all sts.
  7. Rnd 9: k2, p4, k2, p4, k2, p4, k2.
  8. Rnd 10: knit all sts.
  9. Repeat Rnds 7-10 three more times for a pant leg about 2 inches long.
  10. Rnd 23: k9, kfb, k10. 21 sts.
  11. Rnd 24: knit all sts.
  12. Break yarn for the first leg and place sts on a holder.

Second Leg

  1. Work the second leg exactly the same as the first leg, but do not break yarn after Rnd 24.
  2. Place both legs side by side with the feet pointing forward.
  3. Knit across the second leg, CO 4 sts for the center crotch, knit across the first leg, then CO 4 sts for the back crotch. 50 sts total.
  4. Place a marker at the center back. This is the beginning of the body round.

Lower Body in Pants

The pants should be slightly roomy and squared through the hips, matching the image. Continue in mustard yarn.

  1. Rnd 1: knit all 50 sts.
  2. Rnd 2: k12, p2, k4, p2, k10, p2, k4, p2, k12.
  3. Rnd 3: knit all sts.
  4. Rnd 4: k14, p4, k14, p4, k14.

  8. Next rnd: k10, k2tog, k24, ssk, k10. 46 sts.
  9. Knit 1 rnd plain.

At this point the mustard pants should reach the bunny waist. Stuff both legs firmly, then lightly stuff the hip area. Do not overstuff the upper waist because the vest will sit over it.

Cream Sweater Upper Body

Change to cream yarn for the sweater and turtleneck base. The visible cream sleeves and high neck in the image are built into this section.

  1. Rnd 1: with cream, knit all 46 sts.
  2. Rnd 2: k1, p1 around for waist rib. 46 sts.

  12. Rnds 22-27: continue k1, p1 rib.
  13. Rnd 28: k2tog around. 20 sts.
  14. Break yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread through remaining sts, pull snug, and secure.

The cream turtleneck should sit high at the neck, visible above the olive vest. Shape the body gently with your hands so the waist narrows slightly and the torso stays upright.

Bunny Head

The head is round and larger than the body, with a soft gray upper face and a white rounded muzzle area. Work the main head in gray first.

  1. CO 8 sts in gray. Join in the round.
  2. Rnd 1: kfb around. 16 sts.
  3. Rnd 2: knit all sts.
  4. Rnd 3: k1, kfb around. 24 sts.

  6. Rnd 5: k2, kfb around. 32 sts.
  7. Rnd 6: knit all sts.
  8. Rnd 7: k3, kfb around. 40 sts.

Insert the safety eyes between Rnds 19 and 20, spaced 8 sts apart. Place them slightly forward and low so the bunny has the gentle rounded expression shown in the image.

  1. Rnd 32: k3, k2tog around. 32 sts.
  2. Stuff the head firmly, shaping the forehead and cheeks round.
  3. Rnd 33: k2, k2tog around. 24 sts.
  4. Rnd 34: k1, k2tog around. 16 sts.

  2. Use gray yarn to sew the bottom of the head to the top of the body with small ladder stitches.
  3. Go around the join twice for strength.
  4. Add a small amount of extra stuffing into the neck before closing the final inch.
  5. Check that the bunny can lie flat with the face looking upward.

Dressing the Bunny

After the head, arms, and ears are attached, dress the bunny in the olive vest. Slide the vest over the arms carefully and button the front. Place the cream crossbody strap from the bunny’s left shoulder to the right hip so the bag rests on the lower right side of the vest and pants.

  • The vest should show the cream turtleneck clearly at the neck.
  • The three gold buttons should run vertically down the front center.
  • The bag strap should cross diagonally across the vest.
  • The mushroom applique should face outward on the lower front of the bag.
  • The pants should remain visible below the vest, with the textured stitch pattern centered on both legs.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Check the full silhouette before fastening the last threads. The head should be larger than the body, the ears should hang softly beside the face, and the shoes should sit evenly at the bottom of the mustard pants.

  • Sew ears securely at a downward angle so they frame the face.
  • Attach arms just below the shoulders, with white paws pointing slightly inward.
  • Secure shoes around the lower legs, keeping both toes rounded and level.
  • Add final blush after all sewing is complete so the cheeks stay clean.
  • Place the beanie, pumpkin, cup, and spoon beside the bunny as separate photo props.

Care Notes

This knitted bunny is best treated as a decorative handmade toy. Because it includes small buttons and embroidered accessories, it is not recommended for children under 3 years old unless all small parts are replaced with secure embroidered details.

  • Spot clean with cool water and mild soap.
  • Do not machine wash if safety eyes, buttons, or shaped accessories are attached.
  • Dry flat on a towel away from direct sunlight.
  • Reshape ears, vest, bag, and shoes while damp if needed.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The gray head is round and firmly stuffed.
  • The white muzzle is centered and softly padded.
  • The eyes are even and slightly above the muzzle.
  • The pink sleep mask has two closed embroidered lashes.
  • The olive vest has visible cable texture and three gold buttons.
  • The mustard pants have a raised woven texture on both legs.
  • The cream bag crosses the body diagonally and has a red mushroom patch.
  • The brown shoes are rounded with small side accents.
  • The burgundy beanie has a folded brim, cable texture, and peach leaf patch.
  • The pumpkin, cup, and spoon are finished as separate autumn accessories.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

To preserve the bunny’s shape, keep it stored flat or gently supported. Avoid compressing the ears, sleep mask, bag, and cable beanie for long periods. If dust gathers, use a soft dry brush and clean in the direction of the knitted stitches.

  • For light stains, dab gently instead of rubbing.
  • Keep the gold buttons dry to prevent dulling.
  • Store the pumpkin, cup, spoon, and beanie in a small breathable cloth bag.
  • Refresh the toy by lightly reshaping with clean hands after storage.

Your autumn bunny is now complete, with every cozy detail from the cable vest and soft sleep mask to the little pumpkin, beanie, mushroom bag, warm drink, and spoon ready for a charming seasonal display.
