Finished Size

  • Completed workshop diorama: approximately 24 inches wide, 18 inches deep, and 17 inches high.
  • Main reindeer: approximately 11 inches tall, excluding antlers.
  • Christmas tree: approximately 12 inches tall.
  • Penguin: approximately 5 inches tall.
  • Hedgehog: approximately 5 inches tall.
  • Mouse: approximately 5 inches tall.
  • Sleeping bear: approximately 7 inches long.
  • Workbench: approximately 8 inches wide, 5 inches deep, and 4 inches high.

Skill Level

Intermediate to advanced. The individual crochet shapes use basic amigurumi stitches, but the complete project requires careful shaping, embroidery, wire-supported parts, surface crochet, firm assembly, and construction of a three-sided miniature room.

Materials

  • DK or light worsted-weight cotton yarn in tan, cream, brown, dark brown, black, white, gray, charcoal, red, dark red, green, dark green, light green, gold, yellow, pink, pale blue, and beige.
  • 3.0 mm crochet hook for animals, tree, gifts, and accessories.
  • 3.5 mm crochet hook for room panels, floor, fireplace, shelves, and furniture.
  • Polyester fiberfill.
  • Plastic canvas or firm cardboard for strengthening walls, floor, furniture, ladder, and fireplace.
  • 6 mm and 8 mm black safety eyes.
  • Black, white, red, and brown embroidery thread.
  • Craft wire for antlers, ladder sides, tools, and tree stability.
  • Small battery-operated warm-white craft lights for display use only.
  • Yarn needle, stitch markers, scissors, pins, fabric glue, and sewing thread.
  • Optional wooden dowels for strengthening the workshop table and ladder.

Gauge and Crochet Tension

Using a 3.0 mm hook, 22 single crochet stitches and 24 rounds should measure approximately 4 inches. Using a 3.5 mm hook, 19 single crochet stitches and 20 rows should measure approximately 4 inches.

Gauge is less important than firm tension. The stitches must be tight enough to prevent stuffing or structural inserts from showing. Adjust the hook size when necessary, but keep every matching pair of pieces identical.

Care Notes

  • Display the finished workshop indoors and away from direct sunlight.

  • Remove battery-operated lights before cleaning or storage.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • Confirm that all craft-wire ends are completely covered.
  • Check that the walls meet at firm 90-degree angles.
  • Verify that the table and ladder stand securely.
  • Confirm that all eyes, noses, ornaments, tools, and gift bows are firmly attached.
  • Check that the reindeer’s antlers, ears, hat, apron, and red nose are centered.
  • Make sure the penguin is securely attached to the ladder.
  • Arrange the tree ornaments and gifts evenly without overcrowding one area.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Remove loose dust with a soft makeup brush or a handheld vacuum on its lowest setting. Cover the vacuum nozzle with clean mesh so small decorations cannot be pulled away.

For a small mark, lightly dampen a white cloth with cool water and gently blot the affected stitches. Do not rub, soak, twist, or apply strong cleaning products.

Before long-term storage, remove the light strand and batteries. Place acid-free tissue around the antlers, ladder, tree star, and miniature tools. Store the workshop inside a rigid box in a dry, temperature-stable location.

Do not place heavy objects on top of the storage box. Inspect the project occasionally for moisture, dust, bent wires, loose stitches, or fading. Reshape branches, scarves, bows, and antlers gently by hand before displaying the workshop again.
