This cheerful garden giraffe is made as a slim amigurumi doll with a long neck, rounded muzzle, soft ears, blue ribbed beanie, striped orange scarf, sunflower overalls, orange sandals, a yellow flower satchel, a small watering can, and a standing sunflower. The finished look is bright, playful, and full of tiny garden details.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
This pattern is written in US crochet terms and is worked mostly in continuous rounds. Use a stitch marker at the first stitch of every round. The giraffe is built from the feet upward, with separate arms, ears, muzzle, horns, beanie, scarf, sunflower overalls, sandals, satchel, watering can, sunflower stem, and embroidered details added after the main doll is complete.
The doll in the image has a tall, narrow silhouette. The head is round with a large oval muzzle, the neck is long and straight, and the body is smaller than the head. The overalls sit high on the torso and cover the upper legs like a loose romper with a bib front. Keep the stuffing firm but not hard so the long neck stays upright.

Gauge and Hook Notes
Gauge is not critical, but tight stitches are important. Your stitches should be firm enough that stuffing does not show between them. If your fabric has gaps, use a smaller hook. If your pieces feel stiff and hard to shape, use a hook one size larger.
For a neat image-matching finish, keep the same hook size for all large doll parts. Use the smaller hook only for appliques, leaves, flowers, bee wings, the satchel flower, and facial embroidery. Smaller details look cleaner when they are crocheted tightly and sewn flat.
Main Giraffe Head
Work the head in golden yellow. The head is round but slightly taller than wide, with the muzzle sewn low on the face. Stuff firmly as you go. Leave the lower opening wide enough to attach the neck securely.

Large Cream Muzzle
The muzzle is the most important facial feature. It should be wide, rounded, and placed across the lower half of the head. Use cream yarn and work in an oval. The top edge sits just under the eyes, and the bottom edge reaches close to the lower curve of the face.
- Ch 9.
- Rnd 1: sc in second ch from hook, sc 6, 3 sc in last ch. Continue on the opposite side of the chain, sc 6, inc in last ch. 18 sts.
- Rnd 2: inc, sc 6, inc in next 3 sts, sc 6, inc in next 2 sts. 24 sts.
- Rnd 3: sc 1, inc, sc 6, repeat sc 1, inc three times, sc 6, repeat sc 1, inc two times. 30 sts.
- Rnd 4: sc 2, inc, sc 7, repeat sc 2, inc three times, sc 7, repeat sc 2, inc two times. 36 sts.
- Rnd 5 to Rnd 6: sc around. 36 sts each round.
- Rnd 7: sc 4, dec around. 30 sts.
- FO with a long tail. Lightly stuff only the center so the muzzle puffs outward without becoming bulky.
Sew the muzzle to the head across Rnds 12 to 20. Keep it horizontal and slightly oval. The lower edge should curve around the front of the head. Add two small brown nostrils near the left and right upper corners of the muzzle. Embroider a very short curved mouth line under the center.
Eye Patches and Eyes
The giraffe in the image has oversized white eye patches with black pupils, giving a surprised and cute garden character expression. Make two white circles first, then add safety eyes or embroidered black pupils in the center.
- With white yarn, make 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
- Rnd 2: inc around. 12 sts.
- Sl st to finish and FO with a sewing tail.
- Make a second matching circle.
Place the white eye circles above the muzzle with the inner edges close together. Sew them flat between head Rnds 10 and 14. Insert or sew one black eye in the center of each white circle. Add a tiny white highlight with embroidery thread if you use crocheted black eyes.
Giraffe Ears
The ears are long, soft, and angled outward from under the beanie. Each ear has a golden yellow outer piece and a cream inner piece. The tips are rounded, and the bases are pinched before sewing.
Outer Ear, Make 2
- With golden yellow, ch 9.
- Rnd 1: sc in second ch from hook, hdc 2, dc 3, hdc 1, 5 hdc in last ch. Work on opposite side: hdc 1, dc 3, hdc 2, sc 1. 20 sts.
- Rnd 2: sc 2, hdc 2, dc 4, hdc inc in next 5 sts, dc 4, hdc 2, sc 1. 25 sts.
- Rnd 3: sc around. 25 sts.
- FO with a long tail.
Inner Ear, Make 2
- With cream yarn, ch 7.
- Rnd 1: sc in second ch from hook, hdc 2, dc 2, 5 hdc in last ch. Work on opposite side: dc 2, hdc 2, sc 1. 16 sts.
- Rnd 2: sc 2, hdc 2, dc 2, hdc inc in next 5 sts, dc 2, hdc 2, sc 1. 21 sts.
- FO with a long tail.
Sew one cream inner ear to each golden outer ear. Add a few short pink blush stitches inside each ear near the center. Pinch the base flat and sew the ears to the sides of the head between Rnds 8 and 12, angled slightly downward and outward.
Ossicones and Head Spots
The small giraffe horns are partly hidden under the blue beanie, but they should still lift the hat slightly and keep the giraffe identity visible. Make two short golden horns with brown tips.
- With brown yarn, Rnd 1: 5 sc in MR. 5 sts.
- Rnd 2: sc around. 5 sts.
- Change to golden yellow.
- Rnd 3 to Rnd 5: sc around. 5 sts each round.
- FO with a tail. Lightly stuff with yarn scraps.
- Make a second horn.
Sew the horns to the top of the head between Rnds 4 and 7, spaced about 1 inch apart. Add five to seven small brown spots on the face and head. Use small circles made from 6 sc in a magic ring, or embroider uneven brown dots directly onto the head.
Long Neck
The neck is narrow, straight, and tall. It supports the head and creates the recognizable giraffe shape. Insert stuffing firmly in small amounts every few rounds. Do not overstuff at the very top, or the head may tilt backward.
- With golden yellow, Rnd 1: 18 sc in MR. 18 sts.
- Rnd 2 to Rnd 27: sc around. 18 sts each round.
- Rnd 28: sc around, then FO with a long tail if making separately.
Add several small brown oval spots on the neck. To make a spot, crochet 6 sc in MR, sl st to close, and sew flat. Place the spots irregularly, with two visible near the front and three around the sides. Sew the upper neck securely inside the lower opening of the head.
Body Torso
The torso is shorter than the neck and is mostly covered by sunflower overalls. Use golden yellow for the body. The top is narrow, the belly is softly rounded, and the lower edge separates into two legs.
- Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
- Rnd 2: inc around. 12 sts.
- Rnd 3: sc 1, inc around. 18 sts.
- Rnd 4: sc 2, inc around. 24 sts.
- Rnd 5: sc 3, inc around. 30 sts.
- Rnd 6: sc 4, inc around. 36 sts.
- Rnd 7 to Rnd 12: sc around. 36 sts each round.
- Rnd 13: sc 4, dec around. 30 sts.
- Rnd 14 to Rnd 15: sc around. 30 sts each round.
- Rnd 16: sc 3, dec around. 24 sts.
- Rnd 17 to Rnd 18: sc around. 24 sts each round.
- Rnd 19: sc 2, dec around. 18 sts.
- Rnd 20: sc around. 18 sts.
- FO with a long tail. Stuff firmly, keeping the lower belly rounded.

Sew the bottom of the neck to the top center of the body. The neck should stand vertically, not leaning forward. Reinforce the seam twice around with small hidden stitches because the scarf and head add weight.
Legs, Make 2
The legs are long, slim, and cream-colored at the lower section, with the overalls ending above them. The feet are rounded with orange sandals added later. Work from the foot upward.
- With cream yarn, Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
- Rnd 2: inc around. 12 sts.
- Rnd 3: sc 1, inc around. 18 sts.
- Rnd 4: BLO sc around. 18 sts.
- Rnd 5: sc 5, dec 4 times, sc 5. 14 sts.
- Rnd 6: sc 4, dec 3 times, sc 4. 11 sts.
- Rnd 7: sc around. 11 sts.
- Rnd 8 to Rnd 23: sc around. 11 sts each round.
- Stuff the foot firmly and the leg lightly.
- FO with a long tail for sewing.
Sew the legs to the bottom front of the body, spaced slightly apart so the overalls have a visible center gap. The toes should point forward. The legs should hang straight down, matching the image’s neat standing doll posture.
Arms, Make 2
The arms are slim golden yellow tubes with brown hooves. They sit on the sides of the body and extend down past the overall bib. Do not overstuff the upper arms, because they should rest close to the body.
- With brown yarn, Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
- Rnd 2: sc 1, inc around. 9 sts.
- Rnd 3 to Rnd 5: sc around. 9 sts each round.
- Change to golden yellow.
- Rnd 6 to Rnd 23: sc around. 9 sts each round.
- Stuff the hoof, then lightly stuff the lower arm only.
- Flatten the top and close with 4 sc through both layers.
- FO with a long tail.
Sew the arms to the upper sides of the body just below the neck seam. Angle them downward. The brown hooves should rest beside the lower overalls, as in the image.
Sunflower Overalls
The overalls are bright yellow with a bib, shoulder straps, short pant legs, green buttons, sunflower appliques, green leaves, and a few brown giraffe-style spots. This clothing layer gives the doll its garden theme, so take time with placement.
Overall Shorts Base
- With yellow yarn, ch 38. Join with sl st, making sure the chain is not twisted.
- Rnd 1: ch 1, sc in each ch around. 38 sts.
- Rnd 2 to Rnd 5: sc around. 38 sts each round.
- Rnd 6: sc 8, inc, sc 18, inc, sc 10. 40 sts.

- Leg Rnd 1 to Leg Rnd 5: sc around first 20 sts. FO.
- Join yellow yarn to the second leg opening.
- Leg Rnd 1 to Leg Rnd 5: sc around remaining 20 sts. FO.
Slide the shorts onto the body from the legs upward before sewing the legs fully if needed. The top edge should sit just below the neck base. Sew the back seam lightly to keep the overalls in place.
Front Bib
- Join yellow yarn at the front center top edge of the shorts.
- Row 1: sc 12 across the front. Ch 1, turn.
- Row 2 to Row 8: sc 12. Ch 1, turn after each row.
- Row 9: dec, sc 8, dec. 10 sts.
- Row 10: sc across. 10 sts.
- FO and weave in the end.
Shoulder Straps
- With yellow yarn, ch 24 for the first strap.
- Starting in second ch from hook, sc 23. FO.
- Make a second strap.
- Sew each strap to the top corners of the bib, cross them lightly over the shoulders, and attach them to the back top edge of the shorts.
Add two small green buttons at the top of the bib. For each button, make 5 sc in MR, sl st closed, and sew flat. Place one button on each upper bib corner where the straps begin.
Sunflower Appliques for Overalls
The overalls in the image have large orange sunflowers with brown centers. Make one flower for the bib, one large flower for the lower front, and two smaller flowers for the shorts legs.

- Starting in second ch from hook: sc, hdc, dc, hdc, 3 sc in last ch.
- Work on the opposite side: hdc, dc, hdc, sc.
- Sl st to close and FO with a sewing tail.
- Make 6 to 8 leaves.
Sew leaves around the sunflower appliques. Place two leaves beside the bib flower, two beside the lower flower, and one leaf on each shorts side. Keep them slightly angled so they look naturally scattered over the yellow fabric.
Blue Ribbed Beanie
The beanie is bright blue with a folded ribbed brim and a round pom-pom on top. It sits low on the head, covering the horn bases and resting just above the white eye patches.
- With blue yarn, Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR. 6 sts.
- Rnd 2: inc around. 12 sts.
- Rnd 3: sc 1, inc around. 18 sts.

Bee Wings, Make 2
- With white yarn, ch 4.
- Sl st in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in last ch.
- FO with a long tail.
Sew both wings to the top of the bee. Attach the bee to the right side of the beanie brim at a slight angle, as though it has just landed there.
Striped Orange Scarf
The scarf wraps around the giraffe’s long neck and hangs to one side. It uses alternating orange and red-orange stripes. Add fringe to both ends for the same cozy handmade look shown in the image.
- With orange yarn, ch 9.
- Row 1: sc in second ch from hook and across. 8 sts.
- Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc across. 8 sts.
- Change to red-orange.
- Row 3 to Row 4: sc across. 8 sts each row.
- Change to orange.
- Repeat two-row stripes until the scarf measures about 16 inches.
- FO and weave in ends.
Cut twelve short strands of orange and red-orange yarn, each about 3 inches long. Add three folded strands to each end corner and two groups across the center of each short edge. Trim evenly. Wrap the scarf once around the neck and tack it lightly at the back.

Standing Sunflower Prop
The sunflower prop has a green stem, bright yellow petals, and a brown center. It should be tall enough to sit beside the watering can and reach near the giraffe’s hip.

- For one leaf, ch 7, sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc across the chain, then FO.
- Sew the leaf to the side of the stem.
- Sew the top of the stem to the back of the sunflower head.
For a firmer prop, insert a short covered craft wire inside the stem. Skip wire if the toy is for a young child. Sew the finished sunflower to the doll’s hand, bag, or display base if you want it to stand upright.
Watering Can Prop
The watering can is light tan with a rounded body, side handle, long spout, tiny blue water edge, and a white daisy on the front. It is small enough to sit beside the giraffe but detailed enough to match the garden scene.
Watering Can Body

📌Thank you for reading the article
Sew the spout to one side of the watering can, angled upward. Add two tiny blue stitches at the spout tip to suggest water. Keep the blue detail small, like the photo’s delicate accent.
Handle
- With light tan yarn, ch 18.
- Starting in second ch from hook, sc across. 17 sts.
- FO with a long tail.
- Curve the strip into a handle and sew both ends to the opposite side of the watering can body.
Daisy on Watering Can
- With yellow yarn, make 5 sc in MR and sl st closed.
- Join white yarn. Work ch 3, sl st in same stitch, repeat 5 times for petals.
- FO and sew to the front center of the watering can.
Facial Embroidery and Blush
The face has a sweet worried garden helper expression. Embroider small brown freckles on both sides of the muzzle and lower face. Add three freckles on each cheek area. Use tiny straight stitches, not large knots, so the expression stays soft.
- Add a small blue teardrop stitch below the eyes and above the muzzle center.
- Add soft pink blush on both cheeks using pink yarn or a tiny amount of fabric-safe blush.
- Embroider short brown nostrils on the muzzle, placed wide apart.
- Keep the mouth very small so the large eyes remain the main expression.
Giraffe Body Spots
Brown spots are visible on the head, neck, arms, and around the overalls. Use different sizes to make the giraffe natural but still cute. Do not place them in perfect rows. The image has a handmade scattered look, so slight unevenness is ideal.
- Small spot: 6 sc in MR, sl st closed, FO.
- Medium spot: 6 sc in MR, inc around for 12 sts, sl st closed, FO.
- Oval spot: ch 4, sc in second ch, sc 1, 3 sc in last ch, sc on opposite side, inc in last ch, FO.
Sew small and medium spots on the neck before wrapping the scarf. Add one or two spots peeking near the overall sides and one on an arm. Avoid overcrowding the face because the eyes, muzzle, and beanie already create many details.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
- Sew the neck firmly to the body first. Check that it stands straight from every angle.
- Sew the head onto the top of the neck. Use a full round of stitches, then go around a second time for strength.
- Attach the muzzle, eye patches, eyes, ears, horns, and face details.
- Place the blue beanie over the horns and sew around the back and sides.
- Add the bee to the right side of the beanie brim.
- Sew the arms to the body just below the neck seam.
- Sew the legs to the lower body, then fit and secure the overalls.
- Add sunflower appliques, leaves, brown spots, green buttons, and straps to the overalls.
- Wrap the striped scarf around the neck and tack it in place.
- Sew orange sandals to both feet and add the white daisies.
- Finish the satchel, watering can, and standing sunflower as separate props or lightly attach them for display.
When all parts are attached, gently shape the head and muzzle with your hands. Press the ears outward and slightly downward. Adjust the scarf ends so one side hangs longer. The final silhouette should show a tall giraffe with a cozy blue hat, warm scarf, and bright garden outfit.
Care Notes
- Spot clean with cool water and mild soap.
- Do not wring the doll, because the neck and hat may lose shape.
- Let the doll air dry flat on a towel.
- Keep the sunflower, satchel, and watering can separate during cleaning if they are not permanently sewn on.
- For children under three, replace safety eyes with embroidered eyes and avoid wire in the sunflower stem.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The head is round and sits centered on the long neck.
- The muzzle is wide, cream, lightly stuffed, and sewn low on the face.
- The white eye circles are large and close together.
- The ears angle outward from beneath the blue beanie.
- The blue beanie has a folded brim, pom-pom, and tiny bee.
- The scarf has orange and red-orange stripes with small fringe.
- The overalls are yellow with a bib, straps, green buttons, sunflowers, leaves, and brown spots.
- The sandals are orange with cream toe pads and white daisies.
- The yellow satchel has a long strap and flower flap.
- The watering can has a handle, spout, blue water detail, and daisy.
- The standing sunflower has a brown center, yellow petals, green stem, and leaf.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
To preserve the shape of the giraffe, clean only the areas that need attention. Use a damp cloth and gently press over the stitches. Avoid rubbing the embroidered face, bee, flowers, and leaf appliques because these details are small and can loosen with rough handling.
After cleaning, reshape the muzzle, ears, neck, beanie brim, and scarf while the yarn is still slightly damp. Lay the doll flat and support the neck with a folded towel. Let it dry completely before storing or displaying.
Store the finished crochet giraffe in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Bright yellow, blue, and orange yarn can fade if left near a sunny window for long periods. If you display the accessories separately, keep the satchel, watering can, and sunflower beside the doll in a small tray or keepsake box.
