Pattern Notes

  • Work most amigurumi pieces in continuous rounds unless a row is clearly stated.
  • Use a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round.

  • The cow head is slightly larger than the body. This creates the soft toy look shown in the photo.
  • The overalls are crocheted directly into the body color changes, then straps and pocket are added separately.
  • Change colors by finishing the last yarn-over of the previous stitch with the new color.
  • For clean stripes, carry the unused yarn inside the body only when the color is used again within 2 rounds. Otherwise cut and weave ends inside.

Assembly Order

  1. Sew the muzzle to the head first, then complete nostrils and smile.
  2. Sew the ears to the sides of the head, angled outward and slightly down.
  3. Sew the horns above the ears, keeping them upright and slightly inward.
  4. Add flower accents near the horns and ears.
  5. Finish the body, overalls, bib, straps, buttons, patch, and waistband.
  6. Sew the arms to the upper sides of the body.
  7. Attach the sandals to the feet and sew the tiny sandal flowers on the outside edges.
  8. Sew the head to the body with the cream stripe centered over the bib.
  9. Add the satchel strap diagonally across the chest and attach the bag at the right hip.
  10. Place the flowered sun hat and watering can beside the finished cow for the garden display.

Joining the Head to the Body

Place the head on the neck opening with the muzzle facing forward. The cream stripe should align with the middle of the overalls bib. Pin the head in place before sewing. Use the long body tail to sew around the neck twice. Add extra stuffing into the neck as you sew so the head does not wobble.

The head should sit slightly forward, giving the cow a gentle, sweet expression. Do not tilt the head too far down because the muzzle and eyes need to remain visible from the front.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

  • Check that both eyes are level and the muzzle is centered before tying final knots.
  • Add a few short brown embroidery lines on both sides of the cream stripe to suggest soft cow fur texture.
  • Use pink yarn to add one short cheek stitch under each eye.
  • Shape the ears by pinching the lower sewn edge and securing with 2 extra stitches.
  • Secure the satchel strap at the shoulder and back waist so it does not slide.
