This woodland crochet diorama features a hollow log library with a rounded bark roof, moss patches, tiny mushrooms, warm shelf details, miniature books, a reading sofa, a round rug, potted plants, and four woodland animals: a seated bunny, a bespectacled badger reader, a standing fox librarian, and a squirrel serving tea outside.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Skill Level
This pattern is best for adventurous beginners to intermediate crocheters. Most pieces use single crochet in continuous rounds, with small flat appliques for moss, books, mushrooms, shelves, and facial details.
Finished Size
- Complete diorama: about 11 in wide, 8 in tall, and 5 in deep when made with sport or DK cotton yarn.
- Log library shell: about 10 in wide, 6.5 in tall, and 4.5 in deep.
- Animals: about 2.25 to 3.5 in tall, depending on ears and tails.
- Mini accessories: books, cups, plants, mushrooms, tray, rug, couch, and shelves are sized to fit the log interior.
Materials
- 2.25 mm crochet hook for animals and small accessories.
- 3.00 mm crochet hook for the log shell, floor, roof, and larger moss patches.

Gauge and Construction Notes
Use a tight amigurumi tension so stuffing does not show. Gauge is less important than firmness, but with DK yarn and a 2.25 mm hook, 8 sc by 8 rounds should measure about 1 inch.
The log library is built as a padded rectangular book nook with a curved roof. The front stays open, like a large hollowed log. The animals and furniture are made separately, then sewn or glued into place after the shell is complete.
Work most animal pieces in continuous rounds unless a joined round is clearly stated. Use a stitch marker at the first stitch of every round. Stuff heads and bodies firmly, but stuff arms, ears, tails, and tiny accessories lightly.

Back Wall Panel
Use golden beige yarn. This back wall should sit behind the shelves and animals, giving the library a warm lit background.
- Ch 39.
- Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. Turn. 38 sc.
- Rows 2-28: Ch 1, sc across. Turn. 38 sc.
- Row 29: Ch 1, sc across. FO.
Make a second identical panel. Insert plastic canvas between the panels. Join with sc around the edges, placing 2 sc in each corner. Sew the lower long edge of the wall to the back long edge of the base.
Left and Right Side Walls
Make two side panels. Use medium bark brown for the outside-facing layer and golden beige for the inside-facing layer.

Curved Bark Roof
The roof forms the rounded top of the log. The panel is rectangular, then curved over the book nook frame. Use dark bark brown and 3.00 mm hook.
- Ch 43.
- Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. Turn. 42 sc.

Cut a flexible plastic canvas piece the same size. Place it under the roof panel and gently curve it from the left side wall to the right side wall. Sew the front and back roof edges to the side walls and back wall.
Front Bark Rim Around Opening
The front opening needs a thick bark border. This creates the hollow log effect and frames the library scene.
- With dark bark brown, join yarn at the lower left corner of the front opening.
- Round 1: Sc evenly around the left side, across the curved top, down the right side, and across the bottom front edge. Sl st to first sc.
- Round 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around, placing inc at the four rounded corners. Sl st to first sc.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
Final Assembly: Pin every animal and accessory before sewing. Check the front view often so the diorama keeps the same cozy composition: bunny and badger on the left, fox inside center, squirrel outside right, books and plants around the base.
Facial Detailing: Use small stitches and thin yarn. Keep animal faces gentle and simple. Add noses, tiny mouths, cheek stitches, badger glasses, fox muzzle, bunny nose, and squirrel apron flower only after the heads are securely attached.
Care Notes
- Spot clean only with a slightly damp cloth.
- Do not soak the diorama because cardboard or plastic canvas inserts may bend.
- If using lights, remove batteries before cleaning.
- Keep away from pets, toddlers, open flames, and strong sunlight.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- The log shell stands upright and does not lean forward.
- The roof has visible bark ridges and green moss patches.
- The side mushrooms are attached securely and angle outward.
- The shelves are filled with colorful tiny books.
- The badger holds an open green book and wears round glasses.
- The bunny sits low with long ears and a pale blue outfit.
- The fox stands in the center with a white muzzle, chest, and tail tip.
- The squirrel has a spiral tail, apron, tray, and two teacups.
- Pots, book stacks, rug, sofa, and lights are all visible from the front.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Dust the piece gently with a soft makeup brush or clean paintbrush. Work from the top moss and stump downward so loose dust falls away from the shelves and animals.
For small stains, touch the area with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not rub hard. Let the piece air dry completely before placing it back on display.
Store the diorama in a dry box with tissue around the animals and mushrooms. Avoid crushing the roof, squirrel tail, bunny ears, and fox tail. If lights are installed, remove batteries during long storage.
