This detailed knitting pattern creates a charming gray tabby garden cat with oversized golden eyes, peach cheeks, a leafy flower crown, and a dark green botanical dress. The finished cat also wears a cream blouse with puffed cuffs, open-toe garden sandals, and a textured crossbody satchel decorated with a white daisy. A wide-brimmed sun hat, striped ribbon, tiny bee, lavender sprigs, watering cans, flowers, and embroidered foliage complete the garden-inspired design.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
The cat, clothing, sandals, hat, flower crown, and satchel are knitted as separate components. Most toy pieces are worked in the round to reduce visible seams. The dress is knitted from the lower hem upward, while its botanical details are added afterward with duplicate stitch and embroidery.
The head is deliberately large and softly rounded to reproduce the proportions shown. Firm stuffing around the cheeks and lighter stuffing near the crown will help maintain the broad face, small chin, and gentle garden-cat expression.
- Skill level: Intermediate
- Finished height: Approximately 16.5 to 17 inches, or 42 to 43 cm, excluding the hat
- Head width: Approximately 6.5 inches, or 16.5 cm
- Dress length: Approximately 8.75 inches, or 22 cm
- Construction: Knitting in the round and flat, seaming, duplicate stitch, embroidery, and small-item assembly

Important Construction Notes
Place the beginning-of-round marker at the back of each body part unless another position is stated. Distribute increases and decreases evenly. Stuff the head and paws firmly, but keep the upper arms and legs slightly softer so they can rest naturally beside the dress.
The safety eyes produce the glossy golden appearance shown. For a toy intended for a child younger than three years, replace the safety eyes with securely embroidered eyes. Every accessory, button, flower, leaf, and strap must be sewn on firmly.

Stuff the forehead firmly, then fill behind and below each eye. Add extra stuffing to the outer cheek areas between Rnds 34 and 45. Keep the lower center of the face slightly flatter so the white muzzle pads can sit closely together.

- Continue for 14 additional rows in seed stitch for the flap.
- Next RS row: Ssk, work in seed stitch to the final 2 sts, k2tog. You have 26 sts.
- Repeat the two-stitch decrease on every RS row until 20 sts remain.
- Work 3 rows without shaping.
- BO all 20 sts.
Satchel Gusset
CO 8 sts and work in seed stitch until the strip fits around one side, the lower edge, and the opposite side of the bag. This will require approximately 82 rows. BO and sew the gusset between the front and back pieces.
Fold the flap over the front. Place its lower edge approximately 1 inch below the bag opening. Add a small yarn loop beneath the flap and a tiny tan button on the front if a functional closure is desired.
White Daisy Decoration
Make eight white petals.
- CO 3 sts.
- Knit 5 rows in garter stitch.
- Slip 1, k2tog, pass the slipped st over.
- Fasten off.
Arrange the eight petals in a circle on the lower-right area of the flap. For the yellow center, CO 6 sts, knit two rows, gather the stitches tightly, and sew the small rounded center over the petal ends.
Make two tiny sage leaves using the crown-leaf instructions. Sew one leaf beneath the daisy and one leaf slightly to its left.
Crossbody Strap
CO 4 sts with tan yarn and work a four-stitch I-cord until it measures approximately 25 inches. BO and sew one end to each upper side of the satchel.
Position the satchel at the cat’s right hip. Pass the strap diagonally from the right hip to the left shoulder. Secure the strap discreetly at the shoulder and waist so the bag remains in the same position.
Knitted Garden Sandals
Sandal Soles
Make four sole pieces in straw tan, creating two layers for each sandal.
- Row 1: CO 8 sts.
- Row 2: Kfb, knit to the final st, kfb. You have 10 sts.
- Row 3: Knit all 10 sts.
- Row 4: Kfb, knit to the final st, kfb. You have 12 sts.

- BO all sts.
Place two sole pieces together for each foot. Insert a matching piece of thin plastic canvas if extra firmness is needed. Sew around the edges with tan yarn.
Sandal Straps
- Make one 16-inch three-stitch I-cord for each sandal.
- Attach the center of the cord at the back of the heel.
- Cross both ends over the top of the foot.
- Wrap the ends around the ankle and secure them at the outer side.
- Add one short horizontal I-cord across the front edge of each sandal.
Sandal Leaves
Make two sage leaves. CO 3 sts, kfb in every stitch to make 6 sts, knit two rows, k2tog across to make 3 sts, then decrease to one stitch. Sew one leaf to the outer ankle strap of each sandal.
Lavender Sprig Accessory
Make three lavender stems. For each stem, work a three-stitch pale sage I-cord measuring 3.5 inches. Embroider five small violet buds along the upper half, alternating from side to side.
Tie the stems together with a 10-inch lavender I-cord formed into a small bow. The bouquet can be displayed beside the cat or secured loosely beneath one paw.
Final Assembly and Facial Detailing
- Sew the legs to the lower body, spacing their inner edges approximately 0.75 inch apart.
- Place the arms beside the upper body at a downward angle of approximately 30 degrees.
- Sew the head to the 24-stitch neck opening using two complete rounds of strong backstitch.
- Dress the cat in the blouse before attaching the collar permanently.
- Place the green dress over the blouse and align the center back seams.
- Put the sandals on the feet and secure them with hidden stitches.
- Add the flower crown, satchel, and optional hat.
Check that the eye highlights face in the same direction. Add one short charcoal eyelash at the upper outer corner of each eye. Smooth the cheek stuffing and adjust the muzzle pads until both sides appear balanced.
Care Notes
Keep the finished cat away from direct heat and prolonged sunlight. The dark green dress and lavender embroidery may fade if displayed in strong sun. Store the hat flat so the brim does not curl.
This design contains small decorative parts. It is best suited as a collectible display doll unless every component has been adapted and secured for child-safe use.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Both eyes are level and firmly secured.
- The muzzle pads touch evenly beneath the nose.
- The ears angle outward symmetrically.
- The blouse cuffs sit directly above the paws.
- The dress hem hangs evenly around both legs.
- All embroidered motifs face the center front.
- The satchel rests at the right hip.
- The sandal straps cross in matching directions.
- The flower crown does not cover the forehead stripes.
- All yarn ends are woven in and hidden.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Dust the doll regularly with a soft, dry brush. For a small mark, dab the affected area with cool water and a tiny amount of gentle wool-safe cleanser. Do not rub the embroidered dress motifs or glossy eyes.
Avoid machine washing, machine drying, bleaching, twisting, or fully soaking the assembled doll. If deeper cleaning is required, remove the hat and satchel, support the head during cleaning, blot excess moisture with a towel, reshape every part, and allow the doll to air-dry completely on a flat surface.
