This detailed knitting pattern creates a seated garden puppy with a chocolate-brown head, cream muzzle and forehead blaze, floppy ears, round wire glasses, and a knitted daisy hair decoration. The puppy wears a cream turtleneck, a textured moss-green leaf vest with acorn buttons, white socks, decorated brown garden shoes, and a practical tool satchel. A wide-brimmed hat, watering can, seedling pot, and tiny garden stones complete the display.
Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.
Pattern Overview
The puppy is knitted primarily in the round, while the muzzle, forehead blaze, vest, shoe soles, satchel, and several decorative pieces are worked flat. The finished puppy has a softly sculpted, seated shape with long lower legs and generously sized paws.
- Skill level: Confident beginner to intermediate
- Finished seated height: Approximately 17 inches or 43 cm
- Head width: Approximately 7 inches or 18 cm
- Body circumference: Approximately 11 inches or 28 cm
- Needle system: Double-pointed needles, magic loop, or short circular needles
- Construction: Individual stuffed pieces sewn together
- US knitting terminology: Used throughout the pattern
Materials
- DK or light worsted-weight yarn in chocolate brown for the head, ears, thighs, nose, and details
- DK yarn in cream or warm ivory for the muzzle, forehead blaze, arms, socks, and collar
- DK yarn in mottled moss green for the leaf-textured vest
- DK yarn in medium brown for the garden shoes
- DK yarn in beige or natural tan for the satchel and sun hat
- Small amounts of dark brown, ochre, gray, pale blue, white, yellow, olive green, and terracotta yarn
- US size 3 or 3.25 mm knitting needles
- US size 2 or 2.75 mm needles for small accessories
- Two 14 mm black safety eyes
- Polyester fiberfill
- 20-gauge silver-colored craft wire for the glasses
- Blunt tapestry needle
- Locking stitch markers
- Row counter
- Rust-resistant pins
- Small jewelry pliers and wire cutters
- Optional clear craft glue for securing concealed wire ends
Gauge and Fabric
Main gauge: 24 stitches and 32 rounds equal 4 inches or 10 cm in stockinette stitch using the larger needles. Gauge is less important than creating a dense fabric that prevents stuffing from showing through.
When working the tiny accessories, use the smaller needles. The resulting fabric should be firm but flexible. Adjust the needle size when necessary, especially when changing between smooth yarn and heavily textured or heathered yarn.

Important Construction Notes
- Use a removable marker to identify the beginning of every round.
- Stuff each piece gradually rather than forcing a large amount of filling into the final opening.
- Keep the head firm so the glasses and ears remain stable.
- Keep the upper arms and upper legs slightly softer to preserve the seated pose.
- Leave yarn tails at least 12 inches or 30 cm long for assembly.
- When sewing, pass through complete stitches rather than splitting the yarn fibers.
- All stitch counts shown in parentheses are the totals after completing the round or row.

- Arrange the arms naturally beside the vest.
- Position the glasses evenly around both eyes.
- Secure the flower, satchel, leaf charm, and trowel.
- Brush loose fibers away from the eyes and embroidered mouth.
- Place the hat, watering can, seedling pot, and pebble around the seated puppy.
Care Notes
Keep the finished puppy away from direct sunlight for extended periods because strong light can fade natural and heathered yarn colors. Store the wire glasses separately when transporting the toy to prevent bending.
Do not place the completed puppy in a washing machine or tumble dryer. The stuffing, wire, safety eyes, sculpted face, and attached accessories require gentle handling.
Quick Checklist Before You Finish
- Both eyes are level and firmly secured.
- The muzzle is centered beneath the forehead blaze.
- The ears hang at matching angles.
- The head is securely attached through the folded collar.
- The legs support an even seated pose.
- The shoe soles rest flat.
- All four acorn buttons are evenly spaced.
- The wire ends on the glasses are concealed.
- The satchel strap is securely anchored.
- Every small accessory has been checked for loose threads.
Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines
Remove surface dust with a clean, soft brush or a lint roller used with very light pressure. Support the knitted fabric from behind while cleaning raised leaves, acorns, shoe stones, and the flower.
For a small mark, dampen a white cloth with cool water and a tiny amount of mild wool-safe cleanser. Blot the area gently without rubbing. Blot again with a separate damp cloth to remove cleanser residue.
Allow the puppy to air-dry in a well-ventilated room. Keep it upright on an absorbent towel and reshape the ears, vest, shoes, hat brim, and satchel before the fibers dry.
For long-term storage, wrap the puppy loosely in acid-free tissue and place it inside a breathable fabric bag. Store the garden props beside the puppy rather than underneath it so they are not crushed.
