Pattern Notes

Work most small amigurumi pieces in continuous rounds unless a section says to join. Use a stitch marker for the first stitch of each round. Stuff small pieces firmly but not so tightly that the stitches stretch open.

The cabin is built as a firm display shell. The brown ribbed bark curves over a tan interior lining, and the front is left open like a large oval cut in the log. Plastic canvas makes the cabin hold its rounded shape.

The exterior should look chunky and textured, so the bark panel is worked in BLO rows. The interior should look smoother and warmer, so the tan lining uses regular single crochet with spiral details on the circular end walls.

Main Log Cabin Shell

Interior Floor Panel

Use warm tan yarn and a 3.0 mm hook. This panel forms the flat inside floor that supports the bed, rug, desk, shelves, owl, and hedgehog. Work tightly so the floor stays smooth.

  1. Ch 37.
  2. Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from hook and across. Turn. 36 sts.
  3. Rows 2 to 18: Ch 1, sc across. Turn. 36 sts.
  4. Row 19: Ch 1, sc across. Do not turn.
  5. Border Rnd 1: Work 18 sc evenly down the short side, 36 sc across the starting chain edge, 18 sc up the other short side, and 36 sc across the top edge. Join with sl st. 108 sts.
  6. Border Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join. 108 sts.
  7. FO, leaving a 20 in tail for sewing.

Cut a plastic canvas rectangle slightly smaller than the floor, about 10.75 in by 5 in. Place it behind the crocheted panel later during assembly so the floor stays flat.

Curved Tan Interior Wall and Ceiling Lining

This piece covers the inside back wall and rounded ceiling. It is sewn to the long back edge of the floor, then curved upward and forward to create the hollow log shape.

  1. With warm tan yarn, ch 39.
  2. Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from hook and across. Turn. 38 sts.
  3. Rows 2 to 44: Ch 1, sc across. Turn. 38 sts.
  4. Row 45: Ch 1, sc across. Do not turn.
  5. Border Rnd 1: Work 44 sc down the side, 38 sc across the starting chain edge, 44 sc up the other side, and 38 sc across the top. Join. 164 sts.
  6. FO, leaving a long sewing tail.

Cut plastic canvas about 11 in by 7 in. Curve it gently with your hands before inserting it behind this lining. The curve should rise about 6.5 in above the floor and form a smooth tunnel.

Outer Ribbed Bark Panel

The bark is the most visible exterior part. Use bark brown yarn. Work each row in BLO to form raised horizontal ridges like the image. Keep the rows even and firm.

  1. Ch 42.
  2. Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from hook and across. Turn. 41 sts.
  3. Rows 2 to 56: Ch 1, sc BLO across. Turn. 41 sts.
  4. Row 57: Ch 1, sc BLO across. Do not turn.
  5. Border Rnd 1: Work 56 sc evenly down the side, 41 sc across the starting chain edge, 56 sc up the other side, and 41 sc across the top. Join. 194 sts.
  6. FO, leaving a 36 in tail.

Place this bark panel over the outside of the tan curved lining. The ridges should run from left to right across the log. Sew the long lower edge to the back long edge of the tan floor.

Handle

  1. With beige yarn, ch 18.
  2. Row 1: Sl st in each ch across. FO.
  3. Sew one end to each side of the basket rim.

Yarn Balls

  • Make 1 cream ball: 6 sc in MR, inc to 12, sc around, dec to 6, FO.
  • Make 1 blue ball using the same pattern.
  • Make 1 brown ball using the same pattern.
  • Embroider curved lines around each ball to look like wound yarn.

Place the yarn balls inside the basket. For the crochet hook, ch 9 with light gray yarn and sl st back across. Sew it resting over the basket edge.

Leaves Around the Log Base

Small leaves appear around the lower bark and near the plants. Make a mix of green, tan, orange, and pale cream leaves.

  • Small leaf: Ch 6, sl st in 2nd ch, sc, hdc, sc, sl st. FO.
  • Medium leaf: Ch 8, sl st in 2nd ch, sc 2, hdc 2, sc 1, sl st. FO.
  • Wide leaf: Ch 7, sc in 2nd ch, hdc, dc, hdc, sc, sl st. FO.

Make at least 16 leaves. Sew them along the lower front edge, under the bed side, near the acorns, and around the exterior pots.

Interior Placement Guide

  1. Sew the spiral rug to the floor first, slightly right of center.
  2. Sew the bed on the left side, with the headboard near the left rounded wall.
  3. Sew the standing lamp behind the bed, close to the left wall.
  4. Sew the right bookshelf to the back right wall, about 0.75 in above the floor.
  5. Sew the small left shelf above the bed on the left inside wall.
  6. Place the desk in front of the right bookshelf, angled very slightly toward the front opening.
  7. Sew the hedgehog behind the desk so the face points toward the paper.
  8. Sew the owl seated on the bed, centered on the quilt, holding the open book.
  9. Sew the ceiling light above the middle of the room.

Before sewing the right exterior end fully closed, check that every interior piece is visible from the front opening. The owl, hedgehog, bed, desk, rug, shelves, and lights should all be easy to see.

Cabin Assembly

  1. Lay the tan floor flat with the right side facing up.
  2. Pin the tan curved interior wall to the back long edge of the floor. Sew firmly through both layers.
  3. Insert the curved plastic canvas behind the tan wall and ceiling lining.
  4. Wrap the ribbed bark panel over the outside of the tan wall. Sew its lower long edge to the back underside of the floor.
  5. Sew the left round interior log end to the left side, matching the tan interior to the inside and bark rim to the outside.
  6. Sew the right exterior log end to the right side. Leave the front opening clear and rounded.
  7. Sew the dark brown and bark brown front opening rim around the cutout edge.
  8. Add moss patches across the top and sides.
  9. Sew the roof stump on top of the large moss patch.
  10. Add mushrooms, acorns, leaves, and potted plants around the outside.

Use many sewing pins before stitching. The cabin should have a hollow tunnel shape, with the top curving smoothly and the floor sitting flat. Adjust the plastic canvas if the cabin leans forward.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

Check the faces last. The owl’s glasses should sit evenly over the eyes, with the tiny beak centered below. The hedgehog’s snout should point toward the desk, and the spines should be trimmed into a rounded prickly silhouette.

  • Use black embroidery floss for the owl eye dots if you do not use safety eyes.
  • Add a tiny white stitch beside each eye for a soft highlight.
  • Use short tan stitches on the log ends to suggest wood rings.
  • Add dark brown lines on the bark ridges to deepen the log texture.
  • Add small green knots on moss patches for a natural bumpy surface.

Care Notes

This crochet diorama is best used as a display piece. Do not machine wash it because the plastic canvas, tiny stitched details, and shaped cabin shell may bend or shift. Keep it away from direct moisture and strong sunlight.

  • Spot clean with a barely damp cloth.
  • Let the piece air dry fully before storing.
  • Do not pull on the tiny books, quill, mushrooms, or glasses.
  • Keep small parts away from very young children and pets.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • The log shell sits flat and does not roll forward.
  • The front opening is rounded and the rim covers all raw edges.
  • The bed, quilt, pillow, owl, desk, hedgehog, shelves, rug, and lamps are sewn securely.
  • The roof stump, moss, mushrooms, acorns, leaves, pots, and yarn basket are visible from the front.
  • The owl glasses and hedgehog spines are neat and firmly attached.
  • All yarn tails are woven in or hidden inside the cabin shell.

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

To preserve the shape, store the log cabin upright on a flat shelf. Place tissue paper inside the room if you need to transport it. This protects the owl, hedgehog, desk, and bed from being pressed inward.

For dust, use a soft clean paintbrush and brush gently along the bark ridges, moss patches, shelves, and tiny accessories. Work slowly around the glasses, quill, and books because these details are delicate.

If the cabin becomes slightly misshapen, reshape it by hand. Press the floor flat, lift the ceiling curve, and adjust the side ends. Do not iron the piece. Heat can flatten the stitches and damage the firm inserts.

With careful handling, your woodland log cabin bedroom will remain a cozy handmade display full of storybook charm, from the owl reading in bed to the hedgehog writing quietly at the little desk.
