Tithonia Blush-Teacart Bunny – Knitting

Tithonia Blush-Teacart Bunny – Knitting

This knitted bunny set is designed to closely match the warm autumn styling in the image, with a soft stone-colored rabbit, a blush pink dress, a short cape-cardigan, a mustard beret, Mary Jane shoes, a round bag, a tiny cup, a small flower bundle, and a little dog companion. It has the look of a handmade heirloom doll, boutique nursery decor, collectible stuffed rabbit, giftable knitted animal, and seasonal display piece. The finished set is especially lovely for knit doll lovers, fall shelf styling, baby room decor, and handmade toy collectors who enjoy charming, premium-looking knitted details.

Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Overview of the Set

This pattern creates the complete scene shown in the image, not just the bunny. The main bunny has a rounded head, long softly drooping ears, a plump pear-shaped body, slim tubular arms and legs, and a calm embroidered face.

The clothing is just as important as the toy itself. The bunny wears a blush dress with gathered fullness, large floral decoration at the hem, tiny floral accents near the waist, a short textured cape-cardigan tied with a bow, a mustard beret, and blush Mary Jane shoes.

The accessories include a knitted round handbag, a tiny cup, and a small tied bouquet in golden-orange shades. The image also includes a small dog toy with a mustard hat and a brown vest, so that is included here as a separate mini pattern.

Materials

  • Main bunny yarn: sport or light DK yarn in pale stone, oatmeal, or warm beige
  • Dress and shoe yarn: sport or light DK yarn in dusty blush pink
  • Cape-cardigan yarn: same blush pink as dress
  • Beret yarn: mustard or deep golden ochre
  • Flower yarn: burnt orange, marigold, golden yellow, moss green, and a tiny amount of rust brown
  • Little dog yarn: cream or pale stone for body, chocolate brown for ears and vest, mustard for hat
  • Tiny bell or bead: optional for little dog collar detail
  • Stuffing: fine polyester fiberfill
  • Needles: 2.5 mm and 3 mm double-pointed needles or preferred method for small circumference knitting
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stitch markers
  • Waste yarn
  • Embroidery thread or matching yarn: black for eyes, brown or taupe for nose and mouth

Finished Size

Using light DK yarn and a firm gauge, the main bunny measures about 11 to 13 inches tall from feet to top of head, not including the beret. The dog measures about 4 to 5 inches tall. The handbag is about 2 inches wide, and the tiny cup is about 1 inch tall.

Gauge

Gauge is not critical as long as the fabric is dense enough to hold stuffing cleanly. Aim for a smooth, tight fabric with no visible gaps. If in doubt, go down a needle size rather than up.

General Notes

  • Knit the toy pieces firmly and stuff as you go when helpful.

  • The ears should be long and relaxed, attached slightly behind the side center of the head so they fall downward.
  • The dress should be full at the skirt and slightly longer than knee length, ending just above the shoes.
  • The cape-cardigan sits high on the shoulders and ends around the upper waist.
  • The floral hem is best added after knitting by embroidery and applied knitted petals.

Main Bunny

Legs Make 2

Using the main bunny color and smaller needles, CO 12 sts. Join carefully to work in the round. Knit 10 rounds for the narrow lower leg. This section should look straight and slim.

Increase evenly by 2 sts on the next round. Knit 16 rounds even. Stuff the lower portion lightly so the leg stays smooth but not stiff. The finished leg should look cylindrical and slightly soft, not bulky.

For the top of the leg, work 1 round as follows: K1, kfb, knit to 2 sts before end, kfb, K1. You now have 16 sts. Knit 4 rounds even. Place stitches on waste yarn. Make the second leg the same way.

Body

Place both legs onto needles, arranging them so the inner leg edges meet. Join to work across first leg, CO 4 sts for the center crotch, work across second leg, CO 4 sts for back center. You now have 40 sts.

Knit 4 rounds even. On the next increase round, work kfb at 4 evenly spaced points. Repeat this increase round every 4th round 3 more times. You now have 56 sts. This forms the lower body width needed for the rounded dress-filled silhouette beneath the clothes.

Knit 12 rounds even. Begin gentle waist shaping. Decrease 4 sts evenly on the next round, then knit 5 rounds even. Repeat this decrease round once more. You now have 48 sts.

Knit 8 rounds even. Stuff the legs firmly at the ankles and lower calves, then more softly toward the tops. Stuff the body with a smooth, rounded base and a slightly narrower upper torso.

For the upper body, decrease 4 sts evenly on the next round. Knit 5 rounds even. Repeat once more to 40 sts. Knit 6 rounds. The chest should stay rounded but smaller than the lower body.

Work one final shaping round: K8, k2tog, K10, k2tog, K8, k2tog, K9, k2tog. You now have 36 sts. Knit 2 rounds even. Leave stitches live for the head.

Head

Continue in the main color. Increase evenly by 8 sts on the first head round to 44 sts. Knit 3 rounds even. Increase evenly by 8 sts again to 52 sts. Knit 3 rounds even. Increase evenly by 8 sts again to 60 sts.

Knit 14 rounds even. This creates the deep rounded head seen in the image. Stuff firmly as you work, shaping the cheeks outward and the forehead smooth. Avoid overstuffing the lower face because the muzzle shaping will define that area later.

Begin head decreases. Decrease 6 sts evenly on the next round. Knit 2 rounds even. Repeat this decrease sequence every 3rd round until 24 sts remain. Stuff very firmly now, making the head symmetrical.

Thread yarn through remaining stitches, pull tight, and close. Weave in securely. Roll the head gently between your hands to smooth any unevenness.

Arms Make 2

Using the main bunny color, CO 10 sts and join in the round. Knit 8 rounds. Increase 2 sts evenly. Knit 20 rounds even. The arm should remain slim and simple, matching the image.

Work 1 round of purl to create a soft turning point at the upper arm if desired, then knit 3 more rounds. Lightly stuff only the lower two-thirds. Flatten top opening and graft or seam closed. Leave a long tail for sewing.

Ears Make 2

Using the main bunny color, CO 14 sts. Work flat in stockinette.

Row 1: K1, inc, knit to last 2 sts, inc, K1.
Row 2: P all sts.

Repeat these 2 rows twice more to 20 sts. Work 18 rows even in stockinette. The ear should be long, soft, and not too wide.

Begin shaping. On RS rows, K1, ssk, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, K1. Purl WS rows. Repeat until 8 sts remain. Knit 1 WS row. Next RS row: K1, k2tog, K2, ssk, K1. Purl WS. Next RS: K1, k2tog, ssk, K1. Cut yarn, thread through remaining 4 sts, and draw up lightly.

Make a second ear. Fold the cast-on edge slightly and sew to the sides of the head, just behind the widest part of the face, so the ears hang straight down with a slight inward curve.

Facial Shaping Before Clothing

Use matching main-color yarn to create soft sculpting from the lower head to the muzzle. Enter at the neck, bring the needle out near one eye placement, take a tiny stitch, then return to the neck. Repeat for the second side to make shallow eye hollows.

For the muzzle, use a strand of main-color yarn or a light taupe thread and make two or three horizontal tension stitches across the lower center face, pulling gently so the muzzle becomes slightly rounded and divided. Do not over-sculpt. The face in the image is very soft and calm.

Dress

Skirt and Bodice

Using blush yarn and 3 mm needles, CO 120 sts. Join to work in the round. Knit 6 rounds for the folded lower edge. On the next round, purl all stitches to create a hem turning ridge if you want a neat interior finish.

Knit 18 rounds even. Then begin very gentle shaping toward the waist. Decrease 10 sts evenly on the next round. Knit 6 rounds even. Repeat this decrease round 3 more times. You now have 80 sts.

Knit 8 rounds even. This gives the skirt fullness while keeping a sweet doll proportion. The skirt should fall softly outward rather than look stiff.

For the bodice, decrease 8 sts evenly to 72 sts. Knit 4 rounds. Decrease 8 sts evenly to 64 sts. Knit 4 rounds. Decrease 8 sts evenly to 56 sts. Knit 4 rounds.

Divide for front and back. The dress in the image looks sleeveless under the cape, so keep the top simple. Work 28 sts for the front and 28 sts for the back, flat.

For each section, work 6 rows stockinette. Shape neckline by binding off the center 8 sts and working each side separately. Decrease 1 st at the neck edge every RS row twice. Work until armhole depth looks proportional, then bind off shoulder stitches.

Sew shoulders. If preferred, add a tiny back opening with two stitches of overlap and a hidden snap, but because the cardigan covers the upper dress, a simple seam is fine if dressing the bunny permanently.

Dress Floral Decoration

The lower hem flowers are a major visual feature. They should be large, warm, and textured. Use a mix of knitted petals and duplicate-stitch embroidery so the decoration appears dimensional, close to the image.

Place 6 main flowers around the hem front, with one large orange flower near center, yellow flowers beside it, and smaller orange-gold blossoms near the sides. Keep the spacing balanced but not perfectly rigid.

  • Large flower center: embroider a tight circular knot or satin-stitched disk in golden yellow
  • Petals: work detached chain stitches or sew on tiny knitted petals in orange and marigold
  • Leaves: use moss green straight stitches angled downward
  • Stem hints: a few short green stitches are enough

Near the waistline on both front sides, add one tiny floral accent cluster. Each one can be a pair of small lazy-daisy petals with a yellow center and green stitch underneath. These should be delicate and much smaller than the hem flowers.

Cape-Cardigan

This piece is short, slightly flared, and textured at the lower edges. It opens at the front and ties with a bow at the neckline.

Using blush yarn, CO 52 sts and work flat. Knit 4 rows in garter stitch for the neck edge. Increase 1 st at each end of the next RS row. Purl back.

Continue in stockinette with a garter border of 4 sts at each front edge. Increase 1 st at each end every 4th row 4 times. This creates a gentle cape line over the shoulders.

After 16 rows total, separate sleeves by marking 10 sts at each side for cap-sleeve shaping. Work short rows or simply continue flat, then seam lightly at the shoulders so the piece curves over the body.

For the lower border, switch to a simple textured motif for 8 rows:

  1. Row 1: K all sts
  2. Row 2: P all sts
  3. Row 3: K2, P2 across
  4. Row 4: Work sts as they appear
  5. Repeat Rows 1 to 4 once more

Bind off loosely. Sew very small underarm seams if needed so the cardigan sits like a little shrug-cape. Add an I-cord tie or twisted cord at the neck opening. Tie it into a soft bow. The bow in the image is prominent but not oversized.

Add two tiny embroidered flowers near the lower fronts to echo the dress motifs.

Beret

Using mustard yarn, CO 72 sts on smaller needles. Join in the round and work 8 rounds of K1, P1 rib. Change to larger needles.

Increase evenly by 18 sts on the next round to 90 sts. Knit 6 rounds even. Then work a soft radiating texture to give the top that gentle starburst look seen in the image.

Round 1: K3, p1, k2tog, yo, K3 repeat around as close as possible.
Round 2 and all even rounds: knit all sts.
Round 3: shift motif by 1 or 2 sts and repeat a similar decrease-yarn over texture.

Continue for 10 to 12 rounds total until the beret spreads softly. Then begin crown shaping.

Divide stitches into 6 sections. Decrease 1 st at each section boundary every other round 5 times, then every round until 12 sts remain. Thread yarn through live stitches and pull closed.

Lightly steam or finger-shape the beret so it slouches to one side. The ribbed band should sit low over the forehead.

Shoes Make 2

Using blush yarn, CO 12 sts and work 2 rows flat in garter. Pick up stitches around if working a tiny sole, or continue with a simple top-down shoe shape.

Join to work in the round with 20 sts. Knit 6 rounds. Begin toe shaping by decreasing 4 sts evenly on one round, knit 1 round, decrease 4 sts again. Stuff very lightly at the toe only if desired.

Work 4 rounds even for the upper foot. Bind off the top center 4 sts to create the Mary Jane opening. Continue back and forth across remaining stitches for 4 rows. Bind off.

Sew the shoe onto the foot. Add an I-cord or narrow knitted strap across the opening and secure with a tiny bow at the front. The image shows a very sweet bow-like finish rather than a side buckle.

Round Handbag

Using blush yarn, CO 8 sts. Work as an increasing circle if using double-pointed needles, or knit two flat circles and seam them together.

For a flat circle version, make 2 pieces:

  1. CO 8 sts.
  2. Increase evenly every RS row until you have about 28 to 32 sts.
  3. Work 2 rows even.
  4. Bind off.

Join the two circles with mattress stitch or whip stitch, leaving the top slightly open. Lightly pad with a tiny bit of stuffing or leave flat. Add a narrow handle made from I-cord or crochet chain in matching yarn. Attach the handle securely at the upper sides.

Add a faint embroidered starburst or radial stitch detail to the front if desired, echoing the circular lines visible in the image.

Tiny Cup

Using blush yarn and very fine needles, CO 12 sts and join in the round. Knit 3 rounds. Increase 4 sts evenly. Knit 2 rounds. Purl 1 round for the lower cup transition. Knit 2 rounds.

For the upper opening, work 1 round: K2tog around loosely, or bind off loosely and then pick up a neat rim. The cup in the image is shallow, rounded, and slightly flared.

For the handle, make a short I-cord of 4 sts for 1 inch, curve it into a loop, and sew to the side. Lightly stuff the cup base or place a rolled scrap of yarn inside so it keeps its shape.

Flower Bundle

Make 5 to 7 tiny blossoms in golden orange and yellow. Each blossom can be worked by making a tiny center knot and sewing 5 detached petals around it. Attach each flower to a short stem of green yarn. Bundle together and tie with a beige strand.

Keep this accessory rustic and small. It should look hand-tied and slightly loose, just like a tiny gathered bunch of autumn flowers.

Little Dog Companion

Legs Make 2

Using cream yarn, CO 8 sts and work in the round for 10 rounds. Stuff lightly. Place on hold.

📌Thank you for reading the article

Body

Join both legs with 2 center stitches between them for a total of 20 sts. Knit 6 rounds even. Increase evenly by 4 sts to 24 sts. Knit 8 rounds even. Decrease evenly by 4 sts to 20 sts. Knit 4 rounds.

Stuff the body firmly enough to stand with support when posed, but keep it soft overall.

Head

Increase to 28 sts. Knit 8 rounds even. Work one soft muzzle-shaping round by increasing 2 sts at the front center. Knit 2 rounds. Begin decreases evenly every other round until 10 sts remain. Stuff firmly and close.

Arms Make 2

CO 8 sts, knit 12 rounds in the round, stuff lightly, flatten and sew closed. Attach to upper body.

Ears Make 2

Using brown yarn, CO 8 sts and work flat in stockinette, increasing to 12 sts over the first few rows. Knit 8 rows even. Decrease back to 6 sts and bind off. Sew ears to the sides of the head so they fall down softly.

Muzzle and Face

Embroider a small dark triangular nose. Add a short vertical line and tiny mouth. Use black stitches or French knots for eyes. Keep the expression gentle and simple.

Vest

Using brown yarn, CO 24 sts and work flat in stockinette with garter edges for about 10 rows. Separate for front opening and shape shallow armholes. Bind off. Sew side seams around the dog body so the vest sits snugly.

Add a tiny yellow or gold bell at the neckline if desired.

Mini Hat

Using mustard yarn, CO 24 sts in the round. Work 4 rounds rib, increase to 30 sts, knit 4 rounds, then decrease evenly to close. Shape into a small cap and sew onto the head at a slight angle.

Assembly of the Main Bunny

  1. Sew the ears to the head first and check their fall from the front view.
  2. Attach the arms slightly below the neck so they angle downward naturally.
  3. Dress the bunny in the blush dress and secure at the back if not removable.
  4. Place the cape-cardigan over the shoulders and tie the bow at the neck.
  5. Position the beret low on the forehead and slightly tilted back and to one side.
  6. Sew the shoes securely to the feet.
  7. Place the handbag on one arm or stitch lightly to the paw for display.

Check the silhouette from a distance. The overall look should be softly rounded, warm, and autumnal, with the dress hem flowers clearly visible and the face calm and centered beneath the beret.

Final Assembly and Facial Detailing

For the eyes, place two small black embroidered stitches evenly apart above the muzzle line. They should be tiny and slightly angled, not large or shiny. The face in the image is understated, so resist the urge to overwork it.

Embroider the nose using taupe-brown yarn in a small inverted triangle or rounded Y shape. Extend a short vertical stitch downward and split into two tiny curved mouth stitches. Add a few soft shaping stitches if needed to define the cheeks.

Once the face is complete, place the beret back on the head and confirm that the forehead still shows well. The expression should remain visible under the hat band.

Care Notes

  • Display pieces like this are best treated as decorative toys.
  • Keep away from rough play if you use delicate floral embroidery and tiny accessories.
  • Store flat or seated so the beret and flower details keep their shape.
  • Avoid prolonged direct sunlight to protect the blush and mustard tones.

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • Are both ears attached at matching height?
  • Does the head sit centered on the body?
  • Is the dress hem evenly balanced around the legs?
  • Are the floral placements warm, full, and visible from the front?
  • Does the cape-cardigan tie neatly without covering the dress too much?
  • Does the beret slouch softly instead of standing upright?
  • Are the shoes aligned and the bows centered?
  • Is the little dog scaled small enough beside the bunny?

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Spot clean first using a barely damp cloth and mild soap. Blot gently rather than rubbing, especially over embroidered flowers, the face, and the tiny dog details.

If deeper cleaning is needed, hand wash in cool water with a delicate detergent. Do not twist or wring. Press the water out in a towel, reshape carefully, and dry flat away from heat.
