Please note: I strive for accuracy in every pattern, but occasional errors can happen. Thank you for understanding and for enjoying my designs.

Pattern Overview

This pattern is written in US English and is worked mostly flat in stockinette stitch, then seamed and stuffed. Small accessories are worked flat or in tiny rounds where noted. The shaping is intentionally gentle so the bunny keeps the rounded, soft, photo-accurate proportions seen in the image.

The bunny has a large oval head, a compact pear-shaped body, long narrow arms, long straight legs, and long floppy ears attached low on the side of the head. The dress is gently flared. The bonnet sits close to the face. The fox is smaller and lighter in build, with a large head, tiny body, slim tail, and miniature hat.

  • Skill level: Advanced beginner to intermediate
  • Style: Seamed toy knitting with embroidered details
  • Construction: Knit flat pieces, seam, stuff, embroider, and assemble
  • Finished bunny height: about 14 inches / 35.5 cm seated including bonnet
  • Finished fox height: about 4.75 inches / 12 cm seated
  • Basket width: about 2.25 inches / 5.5 cm
  • Teapot width: about 3 inches / 7.5 cm including spout and handle

Materials

  • Main bunny yarn: DK weight in warm cream, about 80 g
  • Dress and bonnet yarn: DK weight in olive green, about 70 g
  • Daisy contrast: DK weight in white, small amount
  • Shoes and satchel: DK weight in muted clay brown, about 25 g
  • Fox yarn: DK weight in rusty orange, sky blue, cream, tan, dark brown, and tiny amount black
  • Basket yarn: DK weight in natural beige
  • Egg yarn scraps: pale green, moss green, coral, mustard, and red
  • Teapot yarn: pale sage green, brown, pink, yellow, red, and green scraps
  • Needles: US 2 / 2.75 mm straight needles for most pieces
  • Optional needle: US 1 / 2.25 mm double-pointed needles for tiny i-cord and miniature pieces
  • Tapestry needle
  • Small stitch markers
  • Toy stuffing
  • Thin craft wire, optional, for teapot spout shaping
  • Two 6 mm black safety eyes or black embroidery thread
  • Small buttons for satchel and shoes, optional decorative only

Gauge

Gauge matters because the toy must hold its shape. On US 2 / 2.75 mm needles in stockinette stitch, 28 stitches and 36 rows = 4 inches / 10 cm after light blocking. Tight knitting is best for toys so stuffing does not show through.

Abbreviations

  • k = knit

Special Notes for Accurate Proportions

Do not overstuff the head at the very top. Keep the crown softly rounded. Add more stuffing through the lower face and cheek area. The body should be firm in the lower half and softer at the chest. Legs must be straight and lightly firm so they hang naturally over the table edge.

The ears are long, flat, and gently tapered, not thick tubes. Arms are slim and slightly curved inward after sewing. The dress hem should fall just above the ankles when the bunny is seated. The bonnet should frame the face snugly and tie under the chin with a short textured cord.

Care Notes

  • Spot clean only for best shape retention
  • Do not machine wash if using stuffed accessories or wire
  • Keep out of direct prolonged sunlight to protect muted colors
  • Store seated or supported upright to avoid flattening the bonnet and ears

Quick Checklist Before You Finish

  • Eyes placed low and wide for the gentle look
  • Nose embroidered very small and centered
  • Dress hem reaches mid-shin
  • Bonnet sits close to the face
  • Satchel rests at right hip
  • Legs are slim, even, and hang naturally
  • Fox is noticeably smaller than the bunny
  • Basket, eggs, and teapot all feel softly stuffed but well shaped

Detailed Cleaning and Preservation Guidelines

Use a barely damp cloth with mild soap for surface marks. Blot gently and never rub embroidery or duplicate-stitch daisies aggressively. Dry flat on a towel and reshape while damp. For long-term preservation, wrap in acid-free tissue and store in a breathable cotton bag in a cool, dry place.
